So basically, given the words in that one dude's 1500-some score, the point of this game is to sit here and enter all the possible five letter words that you can, regardless of whether or not you have ever heard of them or know what they mean? Sounds like this is a game for accountants and golfers to me...

Impossible. 54 is divisable by 3 So it might be a 6 letter word with a point value of 18. 54 is divisable by 6 So it might be a 9 letter word with a point value of 9. Highly unlikely. So I'll assume it's 6 letters. These are the possible letter combinations that I can find: YMWYD(One 1 point letter) ZY(four 1 point letters) ZW(four 1 point letters) The YMWYD one is highly unlikely, so I suggest you focus on the ZY and ZW combinations. Yes, I do think too much.

i would really like to be able to see how many guesses (ie invalid word entries)people have made after the puzzles close...maybe this could be added to their word lists

indeed... or maybe a points penalty? to be honest, there's no point in having a word game where people can sit there for several hours and enter in random letter combinations and find words....

the thing is if there is a points penalty who is to say the wont just go to a dictionary first then...and i dont want to penalized everytime i make a typo..and on top of that some educated guessing should be a part of it...and finallly sometimes the game accept spanish/french/etc and sometimes it doesnt which means you just have to try those words to see if they work...same goes for some proper nouns eg. it accpeted roman a few days back but not haitian

it might be simpler to include a second stat in the rankings eg. # of words found / # number of attempted entries X100%

Regarding the talk about guessing, etc. I've thought long and hard on how to solve the dilemma, but every solution simply introduces new problems. And no one's touched on blatant cheating, which I know a couple of players are guilty of. Tsk tsk tsk...

Sure, but as someone said earlier, players would just start looking up words at dictionary.com first.

well im thinking that if it doesnt actually affect their rank it might not make that much difference then...i mean i do some guessing too but i wont stop if it doesnt actually affect my points adversely

drew your full of it...your numbers make no sense...youve went up 21 words and averaged 6 points a word but your word average stayed pretty much the same at 5.17...so the worst case scenario has you averaging a little over 10 pts a word which you miss by a long shot
