you know friends? if i hadn't been a surgical nurse for so long i might just have forgiven myself. just shows why docs and nurses are needed hen you are a patient.

darling, I simply order you to forgive yourself NOW. Of course you need to be told when you are a patient. You experience the pain from within, which is a whole other ballgame than from the outside looking in.
Docs and nurses are the worst patients...they're so used to the environment they forget it's different when they are the patient

as a nurse you do not feel the pain, nor do you experience the emotions that go with it... anxiety, fear, worry. When you are the patient, you are just a speck of dust in the storm of sensations and feelings :)

mind you, with the number of procedures etc i have undergone, i like to think i empathised with my patients.
oh but that is something else entirely. Empathising means you can imagine how it feels, but you know darn well you are not the one feeling it.

You never know what it feels like until it happens to you...and with hubby's situation, I will NEVER know what it feels like (yay! I know the female version, and it ain't fun) Can't imagine the male version no matter how much empathy and love I have for him.
in my volunteer work I see time and again, it is much more important to people that their feelings are validated and accepted, than that they are shared.
very true, and important to understand. Hubs is frightened, and there are so many little things that could have caused his problem. I'm begging him not to worry unless we find out there is actually something to worry about. I think it was a recent med change that likely caused it, the timing is just too right on.

please forgive me for what i am bout to say... but if i am told one more time don't worry about it i will prolly pick up the brolly and beat someone with it.
there is nothing more frustrating. define worry...define concern...as humans only those with absolutely no imagination whatsoever would be able to comply.
in dutch there is this old poem that translates as: Man suffers most from the suffering he fears but that will never come to pass. In this way he has a much heavier burden to carry than God meant him to have.
There are things to worry about - but they are known or suspected. Worrying about something that hasn't been diagnosed yet at all is premature. We have enough to worry about with known problems (speaking of hubby's issue - Parkinson's is known, and there was a recent change in med frequency, so I'm telling him to wait until he gets a real exam before he worrys himself sick)
I know what you mean, rose. When I talk with people who are worried, I usually ask them about what might happen, let them talk it all out, then try and help them sort out what will help them most at this point.
