good morning all
Hiya Sprite! I just now popped in too!
hi Kam :) *hug* How are you doing today?
I got some long overdue stuff out of the way, so I'm happy! How are you doing?
ah that can be such a relief. I am okay.
and how is Michael?
Doing well. His cut finger is healing nicely, but it has kept him from going to his Rock Steady boxing program. Can't be punching bags with a one inch gash in your middle finger!
better not, lol. But not fun that he is missing out on his boxing. It does him a world of good, doesn't it?
So, his balance is suffering a bit, and he's been sleeping more, but I think once he gets back "with the program" he'll be a lot better. He finished his cabinet, and it looks great!
woooot for Michael! Good job!
I think Rock Steady is one of the greatest programs for Parkinson's! They had to cancel one session last week due to power outages, but I'm hoping by next week, his finger will be ready for a light workout - at least he can do all of the whole body exercise and keep his hand away from danger.
sounds good. Am so happy for you guys that this is so rewarding.
I'm glad they have a class that's not an hour away! It takes about 35-40 minutes to get there, but he enjoys getting out, and the town where the classes are has great grocery stores! So we get better food too - bonus!
win-win all the way. Sounds like a real blessing, honey
I harvested my first two apples today! No bird damage either!
lol awesome :D Enjoy them.
I shall! And the neighbor's horses don't get any that are intact! The dog may get a few nibbles - he just loves apples!
aww so cute
That's how Michael cut his finger - feeding the horses! The local grocery will sell a huge bag of old apples for a couple of bucks, so we always grab them. Neighbor rescued an Arab gelding a few months back - he was skin and bones. He looks like a different critter now - very sweet boy. Fattened up nicely with decent care.
that is so good to hear. People can be so cruel to animals. Glad this one found a safe and loving home.
She called Michael the day she adopted him - she was worried he would think neglect - he was the animal control officer for our county for 20 years and he had to contact her once several years ago about another she had rescued. He found no neglect, but she felt picked on - that was before we got together. She has spayed and neutered every feral cat in the area that she could trap, so we have plenty of cats, but I haven't seen kittens in several years. Good neighbor!
very good neighbour! And a good idea of her to tell Michael about the new rescue. Imagine, getting a bad rep while you are doing so much good work!
Good neighbors are hard to come by - we're lucky - only have four with adjoining properties. The folks behind us now are new, and aren't too friendly, but I hope they manage to feel welcome - it's a nice rural area.
they may learn from the rest how nice it is to be friendly with your neighbours. We have always good neighbours, thank God
I feel blessed here, after living in cramped housing tracts in Southern Calif for most of my life. I'm just glad I didn't buy a larger place 20 years ago! We get by now, but if not for Michael, I'd be hiring help now! I used to maintain it all by myself, but couldn't manage now. Amazing what 20 years can do, lol!
hehehe we somehow don't manage to get younger, no matter how hard we try ;)
as Haz once said, aging is not for the timid
Darn! But, that's life (music notes from Sinatra)

roseeeeeee :) *hugssss* Hello my darling, how was your day?
*Hugs* Rose!
Hi and hugs ladies
Hope all’s good with you all.
hi Liz :) *hugs* How are you and your beloved doing?
gym today. first time in ages. have started slowly. just leg exercises today. no arms as i have hard a garden hose in my right radial artery. don came in with me and wants to continue.
all good here. Some challenges buit that is life.
Hi Liz!
All’s good here - very busy month for us.
{{{{{lizgirl}}}}}}
very good, rose. Glad you are taking it slowly. No overdoing stuff, ya hear?! Easy does it.
fireflies
Congrats, Sprite
btw lost another 1lb in fluid over last 24 hours.
WTG SPRITE!!!
wow rose... goes to show how bad it was, honey. Glad the excess fluid is getting rid of. You must be having an intimate relationship with your toilet, lol
lol, yup. can find my way there blindfolded...
what's on your agenda today sprite?
'Grats, Sprite! Have a lovely day!
Rose, glad to hear that excess fluid is leaving! You must have been miserable!
got to go, sorry to leave you lovely ladies. Tonight intervision for chat volunteer job, rose, and some administration now. *hugs*!
Have a lovely day, Sprite. Hugs
okay sweetie. try and take it slowly...says the kettle to the pot..
you got that right kam. only i didn't know just how much. i kept putting it down to my weight.
Now you know the difference! I can't imagine carrying that much excess fluid - I'm super sensitive to any "water weight" - it's miserable. I hope you are feeling much better.
Hey Rose - didn’t realise you ‘d been unwell. HOpe you’re feeling much better with all that weight loss.
And I have carried nearly 70 extra pounds of fat around, which took a massive diet change to get rid of
i am lizgirl. and kam, now i know what it feels like.
It's totally different, and I'm glad you finally got that straightened out! You'll feel better - but remember to stay hydrated too.
kam, i have a freezer full of icy pole tubes. only 70ml (2oz) per tube.
one of those every hour or two keeps me from screaming for a drink. i find the cold helps quench my thirst more. also a small bowl of fresh fruit salad keeps the salivary glands working and my mouth moist.
Sorry to disappear for a few - had some chores needing doing! Do you have to restrict your water intake? That would drive me crazy because I get dry mouth so badly.
yes, kam, to 1.5liter/day. that's just over 50 ounces.
I use the xytol mints at night to try to keep my mouth from turning into a desert.
Oh dear, that must be difficult. You're dealing with way more than I am. Sending prayers your way!
it's nearly 6:30pm here. and i have 800mls (27oz) left for the day. allows me a BIG glass of cold drink after dinner and then some.
Have a good evening Rose. Hugs
yes the xytol mints are great especially if you think your breath is stinky too from the dry mouth.
you too lizgirl. xoxox to you both
I use one or two when I get in bed just to try to keep my mouth hydrated - the cavities from dry mouth are getting expensive! You'll never see me without a jug of water. I'm sorry you have to deal with fluid intake restrictions.
it's hard kam as i am also taking a med to stop the heavy water loss through my skin. i perspire so heavily my hair becomes dripping wet, and my back is soaking. the med also dries out my mouth.
Uh, have they figured out what is causing all of the water retention while you're losing so much at the same time? I hope you can get a handle on that! If I had to restrict fluids I think I might go a bit crazy. I hope they can get your system straightened out soon!
FWs..last word was the last io 6/24
Or, we can take this to email, probably a better idea.
WTG, Diz!
good idea kam.
WTG DIZGRANNIE!!!
will email you soonish kam. xoxox got to go now, time to do something about dinner.
Oh, I was emailing you...stay in touch! I'm too tired to deal with thinking right now, so am heading for bed.
Just in case anyone is keeping track of these ... For the next (ha!) edition of the Enable Dictionary: PSION. A psion is a subatomic particle, a flavor-neutral meson consisting of a charm quark and a charm antiquark. [I mean, you can't get any cuter than that!]
nts
Sorry
Id like to give the enable dictionary a jolly good shake up. I find lots of words quite offensive
People were talking about that yesterday. The purpose of a dictionary (or word list, like Enable) is to define words. All words.
Words are words...
I read an article about one of the editors of the Merriam Webster Dictionary that said "There’s no escaping profanity, which is why dictionaries can’t be precious. Editors have to include slurs, curses, and other offensive words in linguistic compilations because they’re responsible for keeping a cultural record that contains the good, the bad, and the ugly."
I agree.
Words (and things) are only offensive if you take offense - and everyone has different things that offend them. There are definitely words that most people don't use in polite company but that doesn't mean they don't exist and so will always exist in dictionaries and word lists that depend on them
sukee and Molly speak truth. I try to remember that "offense" is totally subjective, and that what makes people uncomfortable in one "English" may be acceptable or have an entirely different in another part of the world. It's an amazingly flexible language. {And Babble has its own censorship, after all: there are words that NEVER appear in the grids]
I totally agree Matty - it's about how words are used.
I'd rather be offended, as a rule, than censored.
Well said matty
I agree with that too.
I also agree. I don't think the dictionary should be censored.
Just curious. What words NEVER appear. We have had all the "usual suspects" when it comes to offensive words.
matty: Snap!
The "n" word, for instance.
Also, there's a difference between acknowledging a word exists and using it in conversation.
And the "c'
I have seen the c word in here.
The C word is definitely accepted in Babble
The c word is in grids a lot.
The n word is accepted in Babble as well.
Language changes - in the Middle Ages the c word was not taboo.
As a matter of fact, whenever the c word is in grids, there are at least five or six "oh, I hate that word" comments.
The funny thing, too, about language, is how it changes. Some words lose their sting/offensiveness over time (at least for large sections of a population). 'Hell' would have been seen as a much naughtier word even 50 or 60 years ago than it typically is now. It made a stir when Star Trek used that word, only once.
hmm. I've never seen either of them. I'll take your "words" for it.
I think it's always dangerous, though, when someone says 'that thing shouldn't exist.' I hate reality TV programmes, but I don't propose they should be banned (that's what the off switch and the channel changer is for)
I have never seen the N word in here.
Fireworks - so good night from Australia.
wtg Liz
Congrats - sleep well!
I'm convinced that if women would stop cringing and crying every time a man pulls out the c word as his big gun in an argument, that the word would lose it's impact.
Congrats Liz!!
Thanks - enjoy your days.
I definitely see it more often on the internet now, for both men and women.
That's part of its flexibility.Language is a function of culture - it changes as we change. Once upon a time (not so long ago - in my grandparents late 19th Century way - English was taught globally from the same texts. Since then, it has adapted increasingly to the cultures it expresses.
There is a generation that is still offended by the f word, yet it is used on most cable TV programming.
Indeed. And whilst I'm not, I wouldn't use it in a job interview, for example
It's not used in polite conversation though, so you don't see it on network TV. There are certain boundaries.
True, Molly. And it goes both ways. Any word can become offensive if it is attached to something a majority of people dislike. After all, Nazi was originally just the name of a political party.
Marilyn, that's the point: "polite" conversation differs among generations, for instance ... and it changes rapidly these days.
And it differs between countries, even those that share a common language. In the UK, I can ask, even in the poshest of restaurants, where the toilet is. Most Americans, I think, would use a euphemism. Bathroom, rest room, ladies' room etc
People at my brother's wedding in Baltimore in the 90s found it hilarious to get my seven year old daughter to say 'wanker' - a reasonably naughty word here in the UK, but a rather silly word in the US
And don't even get me started on the difference between the meaning of the word 'fanny'
Remember when the term "you suck" connoted fellatio? It was considered extremely rude.
American (that is, the English spoken int the U.S.) uses more euphemisms than any other. We're a nation of prudes ... or it looks that way to others.
I noticed in Canada it is washroom. where I'm from in the Appalachians we call it a commode but would still use restroom in a restaurant.
Well, I usually say bathroom.
hmm, maybe it was just banff area
But we rarely use it for the bath. I wonder why we can't say the toilet?
I thought y'all UK people said "loo"
Toilet is the exact same euphemism, just a century older. It comes from French for dressing gown.
wanker is a solid word, I need to use it more
I should say 16th or 17th century French.
We say 'loo,' 'bog', 'khazi' etc, depending on the person, audience and level of (semi) vulgarity ;)
true vicuna, but for the last couple of centuries it means the receptacle of our bodily waste
My mother, born in '05, used the word "shit" for the first time -- aloud, anyway -- in 1995 on. It became a family joke. Her father had told her that once she turned 90, she could say whatever she wanted. Like the doctor telling you that after you had your tonsils out, you could have all the ice cream you wanted. It wasn't supposed to happen.
When Canadians ask where is the washroom in America, they often get directed to a laundry room. : D
lol
Yes, but by the same argument, bathroom doesn't mean [just] the room where we take baths. It means the room in which we evacuate our bodily wastes.
Never heard the word "khazi" -- where does that come from?
And there are people in the Northeast regions of America who don't know what commode means.
I have no idea, jwr! But you do hear it. The internet (a word NOT accepted by Babble) should be able to tell us!
I read a travel blog post once by an Irish girl who was complaining that Americans overuse "awesome" and said it doesn't mean what we think it means. I would argue the same is true for UK use of "brilliant".
True, and we are not usually "resting" in the restroom.
great example carla
And we won't get into "gay."
Awesome and brilliant are way over used in those respective places.
When I was a child, I thought rest rooms were for resting! Mind you, I also thought signs you saw on the highway that read 'littering: $100 fine' meant that it was fine to litter $100 bills.
So true, Molly. There are a lot of things I say that people in the Northeast have no idea what I mean. :D
Haha, that is awesome and brilliant, matty.
And yet every Christmas, we all sing about donning our gay apparel. Fa la la la la.
Like "all around Robin Hood's barn
"All of a sudden." What the hell is a sudden when it's a home?!
I had a friend from Big Stone Gap,VA who introduced me to commode and several other terms I had never heard before.
I grew up in the county next to BSG
I'll take all of A sudden over all of THE sudden any day.
On awesome and brilliant applied to common behavior does "ruin" the words for their once-upon-a-time special use: I think it's such a shame.
My friend's daughter used to refer to it as Flintstone Country. : D
well, they're not that behind the times
I hate it when people qualify 'unique' - as in 'very unique'. Unique means 'one of a kind' and so it is literally a unique word. When qualifying it, you dilute its meaning to 'very uncommon or rare' and there are already words for that
I'm with you matty
I almost cried while laughing when she referred to a little girl's private parts as her "pee-tom".
Babble lesson for Americans: Scottish.
now I've heard that for a boy, but not a girl
Molly, what part of the country does that come from?
I have some Scottish friends here. Yes, you do need a lesson.
Appalachian English, jwr
At a roulette table in Vegas, a group of youths, festooned with gold chains, backwards baseball caps & pants half-way down to their knees were berated by the croupier for using curse words in the presence of a lady. It took me several seconds to realise I was the lady. I laughed & told the boys that I was Irish & that I could curse for a full 20 minutes without repeating myself. They were well impressed & we bonded!!
Aha. Uncomfortably descriptive.
haha, Soodle
Give thanks to world literature for adding color to our languageS.
yeah, it would be boring if we were all the same
ooh, I have found 3 8's just like that
The 8's and 9's have been easy today.
didn't even notice I have a 9 too
clue for the di 8/45, pls
Current theory in linguistics is a relationship between accents (particularly tonally) and location, such as level prairie land producing flat (objectively, not an insult) tones, and mountainous regions calling for more variation, as in Yorkshire.
Is that a de, bichon?
oh, just found the de8/45, thx jwr
di 8/45
yw Oh, I can't believe I just did an abbreviation. I hate what that "texting" is doing to the language.
Haha, FYI acronyms have been in use for years :D
Not to make conversation!
FWIW, Winston Churchill was the first to use OMG in writing
di8/45....take away prefix + bury word
It takes all the feeling out of the words.
ty Molly
Ah, thanks Molly, I didn't realize there were two of them.
you can commiserate with Molly
I mean, one di and one de
I agree about acronyms and abbreviations. I prefer to use entire words.
ha, carla
People who actually say OMG really get me.
when you say "bury word", do you mean a word to mean bury or burying a word somehow? I'm not seeing it. I assume it is a 5 that I don't have yet.
I won't use the examples that make me clench my teeth and growl -- babblers use them all the time.
to bury hokie
interesting, looks like it was a letter to Churchill, not written by him https://tinyurl.com/y4485bdo
thx, Bea, will keep looking
okay, I give up: what's FWIW
nm figured it out
for what it's worth
FTR, I just like to use all the acronyms here whenever it comes up :D
. . . ruefully laughing my way out of the grid. Work was light tonight so I''m taking off early. Bedtime!
good night! I've just finished morning coffee here.

I'm going to go make some strawberry bread. TTFN!
poison is my phantom today. I've typed it in at least five times!
TX for Di8!!
I'm guessing that di8 means exhume, but I'm not sure
Popped back in again (forgot famous name of Babbler who does that a lot) to say it was a pleasure chatting with you all. I rarely get enough quiet time at work to do anything but work the puzzle and give a little lurk.
Yes, Molly. What zombies do for themselves.
Wait, you are at work and it's bed time?
Night shift, maybe?
... works at home
I'm night supervisor on a suicide prevention crisis line, Molly -- Bea got it - but I don't work at home. It's a necessarily social process, supporting the volunteers, especially when we go into red-light mode.
Oh, good for you. A job that actually contributes something to your community.

Need en9 as well.....
Compound word, and the plural of en8 - the tip of a pencil or needle, perhaps?
is that for the en haz?
Yes, en 8 and en9.
Thanks!!
You're welcome!
en + the pencil tip doesnt work
ok - got it, ty -- begins with final
Not beginning + tip
or finale
Ro9 please?
Sorry to be so needy!
ro9 - past tense of ro7/28 - have a noisy time of enjoyment
Take the ro6 (list of names) and put a vowel in the middle for the ro7. Sounds like seafood people eat raw. Then make it past tense for the 9
pt of ro 7: behave in a loud obnoxious manner
ro 7/28 9/60 .... .... think of how you cook beef on Sunday ... then change a vowel ... then add a person who does it for an ending ... then put that in the past
Is that enough clues Une? : D

eu6 sounds like a sleep breathing disorder
