*Puts out coffee, croissants and gluten free muffins to see which quiet Babble player will snatch them up
well, that's mighty nice of you.
Don't go spreading rumors that I'm nice Carla. It will ruin my reputation here. : D
:D
I'll add some of my home made jams.
bea! long time no see.
Carla, what is the news on your dad?
not good, he has been in the hospital since Mon. with bedsores. they have been trying to get him to a nursing home, which they found a spot yesterday, but then the dr. didn't want to move him and said she wanted to put him under hospice.
I'm sorry. How is your mom doing?
he had a barium swallow test and they said nothing is going down the right place. I went last weekend and he was only eating one bite of food per meal.they asked about a feeding tube but we were all against that.
I think she is doing okay. I will probably go back again soon. supposed to move the oldest in to his college townhouse on Tues.
It has to be hard for her, not being able to see him, but it also has to be a great relief that he is being takien care of.
Will college be online? I haven't been keeping up with the news.
yes. he is actually allowed 1 visitor at a time but it's a really long walk from the car and she can't make it with her hips and back. my brother took her one day and pushed her in a wheelchair but then he had to go all the way back out in his car and wait there to go back in and get her.
Russian ruler alert.
good ole volcano too.. hi all
they said while under hospice he will be allowed 4 visitors at a time. he really doesn't know anyone anymore.
ha! I got the ruler last night.
Sorry about your Dad, Carla. Getting your folks into nursing care is tough. I have been down that road, so I sympathize.
I want lizard or wizard, alas, no L or W
I know it is a tough decision to move to hospice. But I'm sure your dad is ready to end the sufering.
thanks, molly. it's been esp. hard for my mom to find any help right now. thanks, covid! you'd think there would be resources for old people but not where they are.
yes, bea, none of us want to see him suffering anymore
I think COVID is complicating health care in a lot of ways.
yep
Is the RV redo finished?
his regular doctor is horrible. he should have ordered a hospital bed weeks ago and done something.
for the most part, bea, still have a little list of things to do.
and I need to shorten 2 sets of curtains that I made too long. also need to finish my quilt. I put the top on the bed last week and it looks so good in there.
not sure how I want to quilt it though
and I had a border fabric calculation mishap, so I'm making matching pillow shams
hi hokie
hi bzz
hi mlfan
I have been working on three quilt tops. Need to get them basted and quilted. I have a large one I am taking to a longarmer. I can't quilt it...
either of you have rain yet?
it is raining here and windy
We had a storm last night. Cloudy now.
Bea is The Quilting Queen : D
we have a little of both at the moment
yeah, this one is king size and I'm a little leery of doing it myself but I'm going to give it a try. just not sure if I want to do straight line or try chalk/stencil or do FMQ.
bzz did it last long?
morning, folks
hi welki
Actually, Molly, I am the piecing queen. Not so much the quilting part.
LOL
Not sure, mlf, I slept through most of it.
I have to make a beer run in a little bit and that's it for my outdoor activities today. We are supposed to have rain and storms all day. Thanks Laura.
Good morning, welki.
I'm not even really good at piecing. I had to use freezer paper squares on this one to square up the blocks.
I've been sewing scraps of Christmas fabric together then trimming it down to 10.5" blocks.
Bea takes Christmas gifts around singing "I wish you a quilted Christmas" : D
"And a jammy New Year"
those blocks I could probably do
i can cut a straight line in glass, but fabric? no way
I still have the 10 or so quilt tops my grandmother had made that I am going to quilt for my cousins. I need to get on that!
welki, with a ruler and a rotary cutter it's fairly easy
mr. homie just broke my best ruler using it to cut the flooring in our RV remodel
nope, i am horrible. at the animal shelter, they asked me to cut some fabric to make snuffle-mats - even with the straight edge and rotary cutter, i had a rough time.
70% lack of patience and 30% total ineptitude
well, sometimes the straight edge moves on you
anyone find the 8? I saw it was za but I think I'm going to need a clue.
not yet
Ends with a deriv of not loose
hmm, some kind of rock or mineral?
got it, thx
mineral it is
Yes, a mineral
this grid is much harder for me than yesterday's
I didn't do yesterday's but this one was tough.
I need to get to the Farmer's Market. Hope to see you all tomorrow.
bye bea!
Fresh vegetables for the Bea family today
stuck at 52 left. would at least like to make 50 before succumbing to the list, but I don't know.
me too - 52 left
midget
oops
hahaha - 51
thx! I had a shortened version of that word (no pun intended), but didn't have that
down to 49 - coffee time
also 49 now ;D
we buy some of our produce from one of the hutterite colonies in the area. for the last month or so, they have had the tiniest, most delicious new potatoes i've ever had.
(she said, out of the blue)
i smash them, roast them, put them in the air fryer - they always come out perfectly
yum, that would be good right now, some new potatoes fried up in a pan
I am not familiar with hutterite colonies
well, that sounds good too!
yeah - let's put some bacon in there
they're similar in belief/philosopy to the amish and mennonites
that's what I was wondering/assuming
some colonies (members) don't mingle much with us outsiders, but i've been buying from the same couple for nearly 15 years and have come to know them, watch their children grow - very nice folks
you should ask what their secret is for new potatoes ;)
Sounds culty to me
(this colony makes really good pickles and saskatoon pies)
what's in a saskatoon pie?
i'm sure the secret is **fertilizer** - so let's not go there :D
saskatoons are like meaty blueberries, they grow wild on the prairies and are cultivated, too
ru, easy benchmark today - I still have 48 left
hi ru
ooh, top row finished!
ah, the za4 that is someone's favorite word
oh, and there's another dr7
it is Jacula's favorite word
thanks, peri. couldn't rem. who.
phantom idiot and idiom
and phantom magic
and tanzanite
well, I'm calling it at 38 left and hitting the list.
help with lone i and lone N in middle column please
and hi all
have neither yet
found the za8 but not the za6
I guess that's my missing z
Care to clue those Peri?
looks like the i is iz4/9
it really poured here yesterday. dark outside now. will probably rain again.
the za8 is a mineral ends in not loose
the n is ni5/12
ty Thought I had tried that for the iz
ty for ni
same, but I think I had a 5th letter on the end
still 2 blank tiles that start with a vowel
struggling with the a's even with the list
wow, still 23 left after going through the list. guess I will take a break
good morning all ---- just read the chat and envying welkie -- the Hutterites grow the best veggies. I can almost taste those new potatoes and I used to get my peas and carrots from them too. Also missing the TAber corn :)
hi nan - they're a little pricey, but worth it for fresh veg and to support local farmers. their corn (i think) is better than taber - or i've never had the good stuff from taber
i've also started buying most of my beef from a butcher who sources from alberta ranchers - primo stuff, and no waste, which makes it hurt less in the wallet
used to buy the corn from Valgardson's - peaches & cream
lol - I just realized that was 30 years ago now
haha - the corn king!
which reminds me that when i lived in nj, the county fair would crown an annual "Swine Queen" LOLOL
gotta love 4H :)
LOL, I wouldn't even think of 4H being in NJ
we had a Miss Burley pageant (a type of tobacco)
i lived in sussex county, rural, mountains, national parks and some of the best fly fishing - the kids went to an elementary school that had one classroom for each grade
my house was built in 1840, a beautiful center hall colonial
*killed the chat*
hi all
hi dan
help with O in left column pls.
od4/6 poem-like
multitasking here. coloring my hair and playing babble :-)
tyty dan
if you put an i in front you get another word
ty for that image of you, peri.... ;o)
tyty
LOL pen
I need to cover up the gray
help with za6 please
don't have that problem.....mine is white....or a very light gray.....
I just pluck the grays out when they bother me too much
*carla will face a time when she will go bald after plucking out all those gray hairs*..... ;o)
za6 - german artsy word for plump
uses all three of the high point tiles
95/35 down 3 or fewer on any tile. time for lunch
going to get some lunch.....bbl for my last 39....
LOL, eventually I guess I'll have to stop. but they are at the hairline and I can't seem to get them covered when I color my hair myself.
oh, thx for the za6
11 left, these 6 and 7's are brutal today
my hair is white at the temples and gray throughout the rest of my hair. but not totally gray yet
I used to get it colored professionally but it is expensive
same
apparently there are three ti7 and I do not have any
I don't color my hair
good to know ruru
the problem is I go blond so I'm afraid to do it too many levels lighter, so I go every so often to get it professionally done and then just maintain that on my own with box color
have done pinterest research on how to do it myself with better products from Sally's but haven't tried that
what's the worst that can happen? haha
I have use Revlon colorsilk for years but just tried one of the L'Oreal products. will see how it looks after it has dried
bbl
I usually use l'oreal
they had a rose blond that I was using but I don't think they make it anymore so I bought 2 the last time I saw it. :D
I don't mess with coloring my hair myself. I leave that to the professionals. Plus, there is no way I could do the back, my hair is too long.
clue on gi6 please
never minds found it
Hurshy would have told you it sounds like a little cat
gimeow
damn it
Rilla would say "Well done, Ruru"
Ice agent
ice agent?
oh .. i get it
well, thx. that's one of the ones I couldn't find
hi again -- not getting the clues for either the gi 6 or the za 8
za6 is yiddish
what's a baby cat called? gi6 rhymes
that does not help me at all
za8 is a mineral with the ending that sounds like not loose
do you want za6 or za8?
za i a nickel compounded mineral
and uses the 3 high pt tiles?
don't see how that is possible
za6 does, not za8
still not clear which you're looking for since you said 8 but ru is cluing 6
oh - ty - was trying to find a za 8 that uses the z f and g
i tried to clue that 8 also but quite poorly
za8 - za + rodent + end of what teeth do
now I need to look for a 6 that uses those letters
found the 8, ty
a well rounded woman is za 6 :D
not zarfag
someone said german and that helped me
I have actually seen the word before which is more than I can say for half of these 7's
look up plump in yiddish nan
i only have two 7's so far no wonder then
It has two meanings, one in German [juicy] anf in Yiddish well built
I have just looked up probably 5 and never seen them
have 8 of the 7's and all are common so far -- and that's a fact mam
is the za 6 the yiddish word or the gi 6?
za is the yiddish word
it's yiddish slang
gi6 says it's hebrew. reminds me of Larry the Cable Guy gi6 it done!
ooh - everyone is too young to get my dr 7 clue
I didn't see it but I already had both dr7, those were easy
i'm sure Nan is an avid fan of larry the cable guy homie :D
yep, I was pretty sure she would get that clue immediately :D
I am down to 2 T's, a 6 and a 7
nope - but i did watch dr 7
I did not, but have obviously heard of it
Jack something wasn't it ? Dr 7
oh, just the facts ma'am. now I remember you saying that.
Joe Friday?
Jack Friday?
Jack Webb
the partner went on to be in Mash
oh, col. potter?
the role was Sgt. Friday -- Peter MOrgan from MASH was his sidekick
I did watch mash some even though I was a little young
i have 4 sevens now.. one normal one a rare one
well, just looked up to6, that's a new one on me too. british
there is another dr7 relating to war
and finally got my last word without looking it up - ti7 that relates to that to6
all in all, not my favorite grid
ah.. thanks hokie.. missed that one
de nada
for some reason I am watching tractor pull on tv
I need to do something with my life
i hardly ever watch tv anymore
we were watching day 1 of tour de france and this came on after
that's kind of like re-cycling isn't it?
If you are watching tractor pull you DEFINITELY need to do something with your life.
*Thinks Carla probably watches Ice Road Truckers and the hoarding show too.
I can't deal with the hoarding show.
I used to watch IRT years ago
I'm not really watching this, just background noise
when you grow up a latchkey kid and watch a lot of TV, it is comforting to have it on all the time :D
The hoarding show sounds disturbing as hell. I don't know why anyone watches it.
I can't understand how dr. pimple popper is a show. who wants to see that?
my brother is a hoarder.. i can't watch that show either
Oh thanks, I didn't know about the pimple popper one. Gross.
yeah, hulu keeps trying to tell me to watch it and I'm like, screw you, hulu.
phantom magazine
The Italian, magazina is there
i think 23 is as close as I get without the list.
Oh dear God. There is a web site and they call habitual pimple poppers, popaholics. This is all stuff I did not need to know. Time to do a home lobotomy.
lol, you just had to google
I think I only made it to 38 or 39, ru.
and then I had to look up several, so I think you've done well.
I give up on these grids when the words are that weird. It becomes something not fun to do anymore.
You want to be really grossed out? The show is called Botched. Unbelievable what people will get done to their bodies
hi swm
Hello TO! :)
how are things up in your area? I am looking to travel, and it's so beautiful there.
Yes, it has been a nice summer, Warmer and dryer than usual. We are supposed to be getting the death throes of Laura any time, lots of rain and some wind. But it will pass quickly. Where are you in the US?
mid atlantic. ditto for laura, but so far today nothing. and workmen canclled for today.
Oh, I see PA, not too far from here :)
nope. but my travel companion does not have a current passpot, so i;m on my own for anything outisde US
Trying hard to go with the flow of the pandemic and succeeding pretty well I think. I am lucky to live in a semi rural area that has been untouched (so far)
my friend just came back from san diego. there were about 30 people on the plane. so if youare brave, or foolhardy, depedning on your point of view, a good time.
My son and his family flew from Calgary to Halifax in early July. Direct flight, then drove to PEI for a 14 day quarantine. They returned August 17. Not sure if I'd do it, but I am higher risk than them by vritue of may advanced age LOL. They said the planes either way were not too full.
are all of the festivals up there cancelled?
hi - back again after a quick trip to the pharmacy
yes, pretty well :(
Tourism is hit hard this year.
there is Nan from the other coast LOL
I've been wondering what has been happening in that regard, swmbo -- we so enjoyed the ceildih's we went to when we were in the maritimes.
Nothing is live. There have been a few virtual kitchen parties but even not many of them. No yearly town festivals or carnivals.
yes - tourism is slower this year, but the Albertans are still coming -- just wish they would leave their partying at home -- we've had 3 outbreaks caused by holiday makers so far
How about in your area?
Yes I read about that. MY Albertans were careful and followed all protocols. It was great to see them.
oh well - a few more days and it will just be the seniors that are travellign
*travelling
everyone will be following protocols now or face a $200 to $2000 fine, depending on the infraction
Exactly. The big worry here right now is the opening of schools and universities. Honestly I worry more about the universities. People in the age where taking risks is the norm.
We had a uni student fined $1,00 for not following protocol so far. Most of the foreign students have already arrived. We'll see.
$1,000
don't know what UofA or UofC is doing, but UofL is continuing with online courses wherever possible. Our daughter is one of the ones teaching online.
i thought we could enter by land with other than a passport/ pass card. seems no longer.
TO - our border with the USA is closed other than for essential traffic for the forseeable future -- certainly until the USA gets things under control.
No TO, no entry even with a passport. The border has been closed for quite a while not, months. The students have been allowed but under very strict guidelines, practically being monitored all the time
foreign students here are being kept in a separate dorm under quarantine for 2 weeks
God help us all
Yes, same here Nan. Testing, daily monitoring of temp and symptoms etc.
Not sure how the student who was fined stepped out of line, but I'm glad it was addressed.
Well, Its been lovely chatting, but it is 3:12 PM here and I haven't had lunch yes and my stomach is complaining. TTFN
bye - hagd
