well, one of the values would be to do with abortion, and another would be their right to have nothing to do with anyone LGBTQ+, and basically anything they perceive as diminishing the dominance of "white Christian America"
they have this idea that if LGBTQ+ stuff is very open and discussed in society, that it will cause their children to be gay or "experiment" with it
don't forget the right to carry assault weapons that all those Christians seem to think are necessary

I can understand why a person would own a gun to hunt for food or for self-protection in a wilderness area, but I do not see why joe citizen needs a handgund, a repeating rifle or a weapon the fires multiple rounds in seconds. No wonder there are so many violent deaths when so many people, in a fit of rage, can pick up a gun and shoot.
well cnan, that's more to do with the fact that the NRA, which started off as a reasonable association that provided training and whatever, has become a force that lobbies on behalf of the gun INDUSTRY, which of course does not want any limits on any type of gun or ammunition.

molly, i think that's a bit of a strawman, to assume that any possible name is bound to offend someone. i've never heard of Oriole lovers protesting the Orioles. i think it is perfectly possible to think of non offensive team names.
People seem to take offense to just about anything these days. Back when football teams got their names, it was as a sign of honor to the logo chosen. Tough, brave, fighting kind of honor. The name was never meant as a slur.
you can think you're honoring someone and do it badly, though. if they want to honor native americans, then they should take my suggestion of allowing a local tribe to choose the new team name.

Molly, I work at a university that was previously the Redskins and is now the Redhawks. I haven't seen that issue pop up yet. (I wasn't here when the initial change happened, so maybe that conversation happened in the past) The local high school just went through a similar name change in the last two years, and same thing (different words, but same conversation)
Up until 1933, they were the Boston Braves. In '33 they changed to Boston Redskins, then in '37 they moved to DC and became Washington Redskins.
