Cute idea for New Year's Eve: Make a memory jar. Every time something good happens in the new year, write about it and put that in the memory jar. You can include ticket stubs, matchbooks, photos, etc. Then the follwing New Year's Eve, take out thje jar and re-live the good moments of your year.
