I read a great article yesterday on putting things in perspective. Yes, it was a bad year for most of us. And yet it was a year. People fell in love, got engaged, got married, had babies. Good things did happen.
Yes, there was a lot of good. I also think it was good in a way that showed us we could slow down. We found other ways to connect with friends and family. Lots of positives.
I think that many people are appreciating the simpler things in life and that the slower pace of life has been good for many - more time at home without long commutes, spending time with partners, kids etc, where able. The beauty of the natural environment and the peace without cars, planes etc. I know that for so many it's been a terrible year with deaths, job losses etc, but I'm grateful for what I have and those around me.

The other positive about this year is the way many people pitched in to help those in need. Those who lost jobs, those with sick family members. I think the collective community spirit shone very brightly this year.

History in Canadian schools back then did not concentrate on modern warfare -- more of the anients and renaissance with emphasis on english and french. I think there was section in about grade 10 or 11 on the world wars

oh. i had a permanent nerve stimulator implanted 2 weeks ago. wire is at thoracic 12 nerve bundle. every two days i am to increase the strength of it. once the stimulator has control of my pain, i can start to drop down off my pain meds. i am very excited about it.

Jane, those facilities are still operating but under very strict guidelines. i thank heaven for not being well enough to join in any celebrations last night. wearing the mask outside of our home is now second nature.

Everyone has become very complacent where we live - I find that quite worrying.

Our premier instigated a hard lockdown of borders very quickly. I totally support that and if the new outbreaks in Victoria and New South Wales grow, I hope it happens again.
I mean no new community transmission cases. There are some in quarantine.

I guess I don't understand all the conflicting reports. I have read that even after hard lock downs, strict quarantines, whatever...people should still wear masks to prevent the spread of asymptomatic germs.
The advice here is to wear a mask if you can't effectively socially distance - but there's no legal requirement. Because there's been no community transmission for so long, the likelihood of it circulating in the community, by non-symptomatic people, is low. However after the holiday season, where there have been a lot of visitors to the state, that may change.
That's what happens when I leave the site up but leave the room. I come back and then reply to a comment!
