shaking it up

9:11 am

it's apparently good for our brains to change things up intentionnally once in a while, take us out of our habits, our ruts...

bottom row gray!

maybe I'll try that tomorrow

9:12 am

go hk go !

still haven't caught ru. very very very slow.

9:13 am

poor with the As, as usual... sigh...

9:14 am

And now for your Friday laugh. Amazon is selling a "social distance zapper". It is a telescoping want that will zap someone with a 4.5-volt charge if they get closer than six feet. Zzzzzzzt!

same. still need 3 A's on top and 2 on bottom

9:15 am

sounds like a good way to promote pedestrian rage....hello all....

wowza

hey pen

9:15 am

gm pen

9:16 am

sounds like a good way to get in trouble...lol

9:17 am

Sounds like a news story about a zapper fight in Walmart waiting to happen.

9:18 am

Tudor not allowed I see.

9:18 am

it's just 1 more ridiculous item...

I have tried it twice in case the style of house is not proper noun

9:18 am

If someone zapped me with that zapper I would wrap it around their head rather hard.

9:19 am

way to go zooz !

9:19 am

and you would get your few minutes of fame, zooz... ;o)

9:20 am

I'm thinking that all the COVID nazis will love those things.

9:23 am

hah.. I had to go look at it.. they call it a "zapper" but it does not zap. It's like an old style car antenna with a grip on it..

so, not like a bug zapper? disappointing

9:25 am

I know right..lol maybe I just didn't search long enough though.

giving up for now. BBL with fresh eyes for last 22.

11:52 am

clue for the gr 7 please?

11:53 am

thanks

11:53 am

I think carla clued it as a dog treat/chew stick? the gr

11:54 am

have never had a dog - don't know anything about dog treats

11:54 am

starts w/a color

11:56 am

have added every two letter combos possible to the colour - nada

11:58 am

work up the grid, left, right, left, right, right, left

11:58 am

hello

11:59 am

that doesn't make any sense if it begins with the five letter colour

12:00 pm

agreed cyber

12:00 pm

there are 3 Es

12:01 pm

doe it begin with all 5 letters of the colour or just part of it?

12:01 pm

all

12:01 pm

got it

12:02 pm

the only combo I didn't add. Misspelled more like the colour

12:02 pm

which n is it?

12:02 pm

ty - tough to clue when it is not really a word

12:03 pm

mlf think of a word that means "like the colour gr***" then spell it a dfferent way

12:05 pm

i thought i had to spell it out?

12:06 pm

think of it as meaning like the specific colour, but misspelled at the end

12:08 pm

your little finger is your pi 5 or spelled differently your pi 6 ----- apply the same principle to the verdant colour

12:13 pm

did you get it mlf?

12:14 pm

nope

12:15 pm

did you look at my lat two clues?

12:16 pm

yes

12:16 pm

I can't think of any other way to clue it -- rhymes with your little finger

12:17 pm

ending sounds the same as what you use to open a lock

12:17 pm

*without the k

12:18 pm

okay duhh

12:18 pm

finally

12:18 pm

12:18 pm

12:50 pm

12:51 pm

It uses a double consonant.

12:51 pm

ah no...it's an organophosphate used in insecticides

12:52 pm

if you have to look it up, it's not a fish

12:52 pm

like we all know that one

12:52 pm

:)

12:52 pm

there's many words I know, but have no idea what the definition is...so wanted to double check

12:53 pm

a clue please?

12:53 pm

I know there's been some canadian words that have shown up from time to time that I had no idea o

12:53 pm

man's name + abbreviation of a woman's name?

12:53 pm

It uses a double consonant.

12:54 pm

looked them up - one was a regular, everyday word. hard eyeroll.

4:47 pm

I'm surprised those eyes haven't rolled right out of the sockets and down the street with all the hard rolling they do.

4:49 pm

6:02 pm

eieios. stats for 7's are en7/28, gr7/36, and pr7/32

6:15 pm

ahhhhh, nothing like settling down to a babble grid at the end of a long week

6:23 pm

anybody else try NaCl? lol

6:38 pm

Why would that work?

6:38 pm

it wouldn't

6:39 pm

i knew it wouldn't, but, it kinda just feels like a word cause i've seen it so often, you know?

6:39 pm

as opposed to panko, which is among the culinary terms that i guess are too new to english to be included

6:40 pm

I wanted tinpan to be a compound word :-)

6:41 pm

tinpan alley, is that a thing

6:41 pm

it should be

6:42 pm

yes, it just isn't all one word, it's tin pan alley

6:43 pm

ruh-roh, done with 4s and 11 words to go

6:49 pm

oh and if anyone could use an amusing anecdote, i have a good one today

6:50 pm

I never say no to an amusing anecdote

6:51 pm

me either!

6:52 pm

so, i had posted an assignment for students on tuesday, that was a google doc. they each get their own copy, and i can see all the work at any time. i could see that they were not getting it, so i decided to spend today going over it. at the beginning of class, i gave them time to find the assignment and asked if they had found it, were ready to start, etc.

6:53 pm

well, we also have this software that allows the teacher to see what the kids are actually doing on their chromebooks. more than halfway through class, i see some kids on games, and i'm like, why are you playing games?

6:53 pm

and this one kid says he couldn't find the document

6:53 pm

like... you have to raise your hand and tell me that at the beginning before you miss everything... i said, "so did you think, well, i guess i don't have to do it, since i can't find it!"

6:54 pm

how old are your dtudents, hursh?

6:54 pm

6th grade

6:55 pm

old enough to know you should raise your hand if you have a problem

6:55 pm

i have high schoolers who do the same....

6:55 pm

so then that class wraps up and i go to lunch and i find this angry, ranting email from the kid about how i hid the document and just generally being rude... so over the top that it crossed into hilarious. he said i could email his parents and tell them he was in trouble but they would see what he wrote and i would be the one in trouble

6:55 pm

hahahaha wow

6:56 pm

so i replied to him, cc'ing his parents, telling him that i'm new to google classroom and trying my best, and where the assignment was posted, and how i would have been happy to help him find it at the beginning of class if he had raised his hand

6:56 pm

i did a long term sub job and had a kid who cheated on a test grade, got caught and nearly failed the term. just found out today he did it again with his teacher back these kids think we arestupid..

6:58 pm

so then later i get an email from his parents, who unsurprisingly were NOT sympathetic to their son's point of view, about how they are so sorry, they are shocked by his email, etc, and they made him apologize as well.

6:58 pm

good! some parents are just as culpable as their kids these days. at least you gottheir support.

6:59 pm

yeah... and i am the long term sub, by the way, eieios

6:59 pm

their regular teacher is on maternity leave now

6:59 pm

that is why i was there. was supposed to be there 9 weeks, ended up being 13.

7:00 pm

did another long term before the holidays for about 8

7:01 pm

any clues for the pr7?

7:01 pm

the crazy thing is that they don't pay any more for a long term job. same daily rate as a one-day job, but it's sooo much more work

7:01 pm

oh yes, eieios! a pr7 wrote me an angry, rude email today!

7:02 pm

here we get $40 more a day for long term, sowell worth it.

7:02 pm

sorry, gr7

7:03 pm

gr7 is a novice, or, in modern times, a brand of treats for cats and dogs

7:04 pm

hmmm....

7:05 pm

or perhaps you could call kermit a gr7

7:05 pm

not easy

7:05 pm

gotnit. thanks!

7:09 pm

hello friends

7:11 pm

hey trif

7:11 pm

cheers

7:11 pm

scroll down for an amusing anecdote

7:19 pm

anyone have pe6/24? it's not petard, sadly

7:19 pm

hahahaha - that IS a good one! my day was not so amusing. A student who BEGS me for candy every single day, got so mad when I said no to candy today that she tore the name labels off all the plants in my room. The kids had made up names for the plants, and each then made a label. She got a HARD lesson in "fool around and find out"

7:20 pm

I have that pe6 hurshy.

7:20 pm

lets see....think famous barbra streisand song, or gossipy celeb magazine in the US

7:20 pm

doh!

7:20 pm

one of those normal words with a not so normal letter combo

7:21 pm

yup

7:22 pm

my favorite word of the day is up6/39

7:22 pm

hmmmm do not have as yet

7:23 pm

now i do. fun word!

7:39 pm

hang on4 - putting maths hat on - so 39/3 = 13 and up = 4 , so a 4letter word with value of 9....mmmm. Bit much early in the morning

7:40 pm

down to ne6 - anybody?

7:41 pm

ne 6 - desex a dog for example

7:42 pm

Got it...though though upknee as in Mother Brown would have been better

7:43 pm

10:11 pm

10:13 pm

Got it! Fw! Thanks!

10:13 pm
