Wendrie, could I please have a hint for your 2 U's please.

5:09 am

presuming you mean the two I listed? They are alphabetically before the other long Us listed by others.

5:11 am

one was me noodling (seemed to remember an alternative spelling) and the other is a tarry substance used in waterproof coatings.

5:14 am

yes that's what I mean't that's why I asked for a hint for your 2 U's, thanks.

6:13 am

Got them wendrie, more everyday words from babble!!!, lol.

6:59 am

C6/42

8:27 am

C8/80 and C6/33

9:05 am

who knew it had a name?! thanks!

9:14 am

Anyone have clues for the 9 or the two 8s? Thanks in advance to those of you with larger brains than mine.

9:17 am

A natural black bitumen used in the manufacture of acid, alkali, and waterproof coatings

9:18 am

that's for the U9 already described by Wendrie . . .

9:24 am

C8/80 medieval plate armor to protect a horse's head

9:43 am

Actually, the tarry substance is the U8, not the U9. Any hints on the U9? Thanks!

9:45 am

oh, sorry--the U9 is the same but with one added letter

9:47 am

Thanks, Uneaixoise. Tried that, but will try harder! Bummer that "chianti" isn't allowed. It ought to be.

9:50 am

Tarry substance eludes. Seems like no matter what I put together, it doesn't work. Damn U's anyway.

9:59 am

Judi - the U8/U9 is named for the mountain range from which it is mined.

10:00 am

popped right up in google (from my definition posted 9:17am)

10:01 am

wow, D, you really went the extra mile! :-)

10:06 am

Finally got them. Originally left off the "A" in your definition and got bubkis. Added the "A" and got the word I needed. Go figure.

10:08 am

it's all a mystery!

10:17 am

Puzzle accepts a lot of root words, but not "intra". ???

urantia isn't a word.... i know some people who'd be sad about that... :)

10:26 am

well and yesterday it was accepting proper nouns like "arles"--go figure!

10:38 am

Why not "afro"?

10:39 am

I could have sworn afro was accepted in previous puzzles.

10:41 am

Any clue on the Z6?

10:45 am

Z6/45: A cytokinin originally isolated from young corn kernels and found later in various other plants

10:50 am

Thanks! 59. Only 38 more to go.

11:47 am

im lost

12:26 pm

I could swear that "afro" was accepted this early a.m. when I typed it in, but it's not on my list now! This must be part of playbabble.com's Dynamic Player Mystification Initiative.

12:49 pm

i just tried "afro", it didnt seem to work...

1:11 pm

I'm missing one of the R's. I have 3xR4, and one each R5, R6 & R87. What am I missing?

1:14 pm

there are two R5's

1:15 pm

what are the rules? I can't find them ,,,,,,

1:16 pm

I have the R5 that relates to "smallest one in the litter". Is the other one similar or possibly related to another R I have?

1:17 pm

re afro, it's never been accepted altho it's appeared in several puzzles--so much of what's accepted seems pretty arbitrary, eh?

1:18 pm

no the other one is completely different

1:18 pm

Similar to the other one

1:20 pm

get ready . . . here's the definition :) . . . yellow crystalline flavonol glycoside that occurs in various plants (as rue, tobacco, and buckwheat), that yields quercetin and rutinose on hydrolysis, and that is used chiefly for strengthening capillary blood vessels (as in cases of hypertension and radiation injury)

1:22 pm

Shows how much I know

1:25 pm

could i have a hint on the R6? thanks!

1:28 pm

R6: Relating to or being any of a group of flightless birds having a flat breastbone without the keellike prominence characteristic of most flying birds.

1:29 pm

A group of flightless birds.

1:29 pm

oh, thanks, i've seen that in the puzzle before . . .

1:30 pm

I only need 30 more!

1:32 pm

I have one o4/4. Any clues for the other O word?

1:32 pm

Kim, you can just click on Babble rules at the top of this page

1:33 pm

O6/18

1:39 pm

Clue for O4: very decorative or elaborate.

1:40 pm

Oops - that's a clue for the O6, I mean.

1:44 pm

Oh, okay, thank you!

1:46 pm

I kept trying to start the word from the wrong O, no wonder I couldn't see it.

1:59 pm

I knew it wouldn't take Narnia, but I had to try...

2:51 pm

FYI : one of our 'babblers' got the word 'stent' added by emailing to the 'headquarters' - contact link on right side of page under the ads. Maybe we could get them to add 'afro' - since it has been in common usage since the '70's ??!!

2:54 pm

while you're at it, add "tech"--it's crazy that "techy" is OK but not "tech"

2:59 pm

OK - I requested 'afro' and 'tech' --- if I hear anything back - I'll post it to let ya'll know!!

3:01 pm

thanks

3:17 pm

Reply for 'headquarters" Afro is a proper noun, and 'tech' is an abreviation. They use the Enable dictionary and will add words when they are added in to that. So, we either have to lobby the Enable people -- or wait patiently!!! I think a lot of words we use commonly are technically proper nouns when it comes to definitions, etc. We just don't think of them that way. We tried.

3:55 pm

Then I think I'll have to ask why intro is accepted, but not intra. Both are prefixes, and if they don't use abbreviations, then intro shouldn't be accepted as one. Right?

4:07 pm

FYI: ENABLE stands for "Enhanced North American Benchmark LExicon." It's a carefully researched and meticulously compiled combination of many other dictionaries (such as Merriam Webster 10th Edition and the Official Scrabble Players Dictionary), and has graciously been made available for public use by its lexicographers.

4:09 pm

i'd never heard of it before but in a random search of online word games, it looks like it's used a LOT as the "standard" . . . interesting

4:28 pm

I don't agre that AFRO is a proper noun only. An afro hairdo was very popular several decades ago in the 60s

4:36 pm

makes no sense to lowercase Arles and cap Afro . . . !!

10:31 pm

Help! I've got a Ta/6/18, but I'm missing the other T/6. Any clues?

10:47 pm

R7/28

10:53 pm

The 2nd t6 is an alternate spelling of a t5.

10:57 pm

Thanks! Finally got it!

10:58 pm

I retract my last message. Altho it looks as if the t6 is a variant of the t5, it is not related at all. The t6 is someone good at computers.
