It took me far too long to figure out how to make the S10/84 after making the S9/66. :)

3:50 am

To GeoDave - the things like R7/36 mean that someone has found a word beginning with R which is 7 letters long and worth 36 points. Hope that helps.

Where's the dictionary that this uses? Cause my webster's has words that this doesn't recognize, and I can't find a link to babble's dictionary.

10:10 am

I just wanted to send out a special thanks to Whitney Matheson over at USAToday.com. She mentioned Babble in her Hip Clicks blog today. Check her blog out at: http://www.usatoday.com/life/columnist/hipclicks/blog.htm

10:12 am

Another special "thank you" to Melinika for posting about Babble on Metafilter.com. We're getting a steady stream of new players to the site, so get ready, my fellow Babblers!

11:39 am

See Angeelu at 3:50 a.m. for a good explanation of codes....

11:41 am

Marlen, welcome to the addiction. I figure if I get close to half I've had a great babble day.

11:47 am

How many total words are there?

11:48 am

See 03:56 am baggo for stats of this game .....

11:51 am

thanks darleen for the welcome. how long have you guys been playing this game? :-)

11:53 am

thank you!

11:58 am

Marlen, I've been at it a couple of months. Long enough to think maybe I need to have DH put a lock on the 'puter! LOL

11:58 am

Anyone else not a native english speaker? Nice way to practice!

12:01 pm

There are enough esoteric words for even a native speaker to be at a loss. Sometimes, I feel the need to return to school and reconsider that English degree of which I'm so proud .....

12:03 pm

Thanks for the rep... I'm feeling totally lost... Only 26 words and it took me almost an hour!

12:03 pm

Melinika sucked me in here. There goes my life..

12:05 pm

I blame my sister, SlowLoris, for keeping me up past midnight so I can see the finals....

12:59 pm

Oh, I'm sorry. Just 47 words, 392 points. Now I REALLY feel duh.

1:15 pm

May I have clues for both P8s and the T8-60 please?

2:14 pm

120 words , 1500 points, two hours. nice game.I like it.

2:15 pm

wtf??? Nutzo!!

2:16 pm

do we have to wait until tomorrow for a new puzzle since the answers were posted????

2:16 pm

Well, I guess there's no point in working on this one any more...

2:17 pm

do you win anything? you bloody ruined the game and the stats...Grrrrrrrrrrr

2:19 pm

Just press "hide log," ignore nutzo, and keep on truckin'.

2:20 pm

Isn't this just for personal satisfaction???

How about a slap upside the head? What an idiot.

2:20 pm

Yeah, you win an invitation to go play some other game somewhere else. Getting all the words is not even remotely a rarity. Publishing the list and ruining it for everyone else is.

Oooooh, that sure told me. Moron.

2:20 pm

oh good. you posted it twice. what a smart one you are. thanks ever so much.

2:21 pm

Nutzo, Congratulations! You win the coveted STUPIDITY AWARD. If you want real prizes, please go play at www.goldenpalace.com. They give away cash.

2:21 pm

Does people get banned around here? Because nutzo_ssl probably deserves it...

YOU DON'T. There is no prize. Try reading the rules, or do you even know how to read?

2:23 pm

Methinks that getting mentioned on that blog is not exactly going to lead to continued play at this site being very enjoyable.

2:24 pm

fabulous. you can read. you apparently don't have the common sense God gave a houseplant, but you can read. Now go away.

I've sent a complaint to the Babble folks, I hope everyone else will too, since Nutzo obviously gets off on ruining a simple game for everyone else...

2:27 pm

you don't

2:28 pm

To long-time players of this game (if any): Has this (nutzo) ever happened before?

Yay! Thank you, Babble gods!

2:29 pm

yes, thank you babble!

2:29 pm

...thank you .......

2:30 pm

It looks like nutzo is gone along with his comments. Good.

2:33 pm

"Egomania" wasn't a word today yet it seems to be THE word of the day....hint, hint

2:34 pm

Thanks for spoiling the game for everyone you jerk (Nutzo).

2:36 pm

Wow! In a blink of an eye someone has cleaned all Nutzo's junk out of here.

2:40 pm

This is a fun game. Maybe it will expand my word usage. I'm a new player thanks to the USAToday reference today.

2:46 pm

I've been playing for two weeks whenever I have down time at work and can't get enough.

2:46 pm

This is a GREAT game, highly addictive and lots of fun.

Oh, how sad, "migas" doesn't count.

first timer today...and i love this game, especially the clues everyone gives. it makes me feel like I'm playing scrabble, boggle AND doing a crossword at the same time. LOL

3:00 pm

could someone please share a clue on either of the y's...I am happily stumped...

3:02 pm

first timer.... this is fun. Thanks for all the conversation... makes work not so boring when there's nothing to be done!!!

3:03 pm

I have one word so far that contains a y.... m5/20

3:03 pm

3:04 pm

Boy am I glad I was offline for a bit. Guess I missed the mess...

3:04 pm

y5/20

3:04 pm

Welcome to all the newcomers from the USAToday publicity!! This is a great game - will drive away and sanity you may be hanging on to!! Some days there are only 70 words; some days there are 300 -- keeps you from getting too complacent!

3:05 pm

ooops, i meant y5/18...has to do with hunters (i think)

3:08 pm

HI Tedybeth! Along with the good publicity, comes the headcases.

3:09 pm

thanks Dani

3:10 pm

Hi Gail -- I missed all the 'action' today -- usually have to work on this after 6 p.m. because of granddaughter :-)

3:12 pm

I've been to busy to work on it much after being gone for a week. Just got all the mail opened up.

3:16 pm

I still have NO clue about that y word. Hunters, huh?

3:17 pm

y5/18 has to do with beer. ;)

3:18 pm

Y5/18 In the German army, one belonging to a body of light infantry armed with rifles, resembling the chasseur of the French army

3:19 pm

Oops, I mean to say it sounds like it has to do with beer.

3:19 pm

how do you find the big words? i'm having trouble with anything over 5 letters

3:19 pm

awesome, thanks! the "beer" really helped. :)

3:21 pm

Gail's clues are from the dictionary - she really doesn't talk like that LOL

3:21 pm

anyone have clues on the s9 and s10?

3:22 pm

Yes, it's a synonym for isolate or separate (the verb).

3:23 pm

Thanks! got em

3:24 pm

3:24 pm

Welcome to all first timers I started in March and haven't been able to stop so be careful very addictive. As you can tell we enjoy posting clues to help but nobody posts the words No Fun in that. 3:28 pm

Hey, tedybeth. Whaddya mean I don't really talk like that?

3:28 pm

thanks for the warm welcome...looks like a great game. :)

3:29 pm

anyone have a hit for the t8/60...i'm really having trouble with the bigger words

3:30 pm

T8/60 - think of a big cat!

3:30 pm

out of curiosity, how does the scoring work? i mean how do words rack up to 60+ points?

3:33 pm

got it...although i didn't really think that was a word...thanks for the help

3:33 pm

There's a bonus multiplied to the base score for the length of the word.

3:34 pm

i see...thanks mfpb221

3:35 pm

great game! this is my first attempt and it's definitely addictive. glad to have missed the earlier difficulties. thank you for posting hints!

3:35 pm

If you click the Babble Rules button at the top of the page, the scoring system is explained in detail in there.

3:36 pm

I don't know about the astronomical work, but I got a P8/65 that could mean "expires"

3:36 pm

I hope you don't mind people but I am going to re-post baggos stats up here so we don't have to scroll down so far:-)

3:37 pm

here are the stats 10-1 9-2 8-4 7-20 6-33 5-80 4-98 238 words a-24 e-21 g-33 h-10 i-1 j-4 m-20 n-11 o-2 p-9 r-13 s-49 t-34 w-5 y-2

3:42 pm

Thanks karen, got those two! :)

3:43 pm

By "astronomical", do you mean as in "Astronomy"?

3:43 pm

i'm still having trouble with them

3:43 pm

I usually highlight the stats with my mouse and then copy and paste them into word and print them out. That way I can make ticks next to each letter to easily see how close I'm getting. Sadly, today I'm far from close! :)

3:45 pm

Yes, astronomy. I have no idea. I have a prefix used in astronomy starting with p, but that's only 4 letters.

3:45 pm

I can't believe that t8/60 is a real word. Sounds like something silly you'd make up in conversation. Hope that helps.

3:46 pm

thats a good idea Troy...I like to refer to them also, must try that...

3:46 pm

thanks, troy... good idea!

3:47 pm

keep going with that prefix ...mfpb221, experiment and you will get there

3:48 pm

FINALLY got the tow P8s. I'm exhausted!

3:48 pm

am i the only one who still cant get these p8s?

3:49 pm

finally got t8/60 - thanks for the hint, Karen!

3:51 pm

dani...one of them is "to be destroyed"

3:54 pm

Yes! Got it. :)

3:55 pm

ugh..im losing it..i was doing so well there for a while

3:56 pm

I actually had that similar astronomy word (7 letters) and I was like, "damn, if only there was another 'e'." lol

3:58 pm

finally got 1 p8

4:06 pm

Hey whitney @USA Today is my sis-n-law. I had never heard of this game...wish me luck! she'll be so ashamed if I suck:)

4:07 pm

The P8s are killing me! I only have two little P words.

4:08 pm

Hey, mfpb.... I think I know the word you're hinting at (p astronomy), but I can't figure out how to spell it!! All those childhood hours wasted on spelling when we could have been at recess....;-)

4:09 pm

anyone have a hint for o?

4:10 pm

Finally got the P8 that doesn't have to do with astronomy. Can't believe it was staring me right in the face.

4:16 pm

I finally figured out the astromical P8 (yippee!). Has to do with a celestial body coming closest in its orbit to the body around which it orbits.

4:20 pm

thanks for that last hint troy, got it!

4:21 pm

O4 -- plural of a Latin word meaning bone.

4:23 pm

Thanks for the latin tip. This game is maddening! :)

4:28 pm

Tell me about it I still don't have half the words and it's time for me to go home.

4:34 pm

how do you know how many words there are and how many start with each letter (newby..sorry)

4:39 pm

scroll down to alley's 3:37pm post

4:40 pm

thanks!

4:45 pm

newby here, too - I get that there are 9 words that start with P (right?) - how do you know there are 2 with 8 letters?

5:11 pm

REGATA is not a proper word? Tell the folks at Henley.

5:15 pm

regatta, not regata

5:19 pm

regatta doen't work, either

5:19 pm

wow I am having the hardest time w/ the astronomical p8. am i retarded? :)

5:21 pm

regatta doesn't exist on the board...

5:23 pm

Do they ever give you the full list of words? (I mean for past puzzles.)

5:42 pm

3 hours later and I have a total of 48 words...I really suck at this game :(

5:43 pm

Jenni, dont worry i am only at 27 after about 2 hours ;)

5:47 pm

i have 125 words, but i'm pretty sure i've hit a wall, and cannot imagine finding any more.

5:52 pm

any hints on the 10 letter word?

5:55 pm

anyone have both 9 letter words? i have the one that is the shortened version of the 10 letter word, any hints for the other?

5:57 pm

ron88keys, 10 letter=another word for "isolates."

6:00 pm

Rayna, thank you...I had the 9 letter form of it but didn't even think to look for the plural.

6:20 pm

Jenni -- and ay other 'newbies'. The grids are posted from Midnight to midnight Central time [USA]. At midnight a new puzzle is posted. Any time after that you can click on 'yesterday's puzzle' link above where the words list. Then that brings up the last puzzle plus the listing of everyone who played. The ones at the top are the ones who either finished or had the most point value. If you click on a name, a window opens which shows their entire word list. Also, you can click on the 'Archives' link at the top of the page to go back for months. We really don't compete against each other --- just against our selves. Most everyone who becomes addicted has to use tools to complete a grid - like on-line dictionaries, google searches, or word list like a2zwordfinder, or a Worddox list. After a while you begin to remember some of the more common letter combinations that are obscure words!! Have fun!

6:21 pm

Also, we share clues, sometimes the beginning 2 letters of a word .... but never the word itself. At least, not on purpose LOL

Welcome newcomers,as you have been told this really is addictive but VERY fun. I to am glad i came in late and missed the mess.Posting the words takes the fun out of the game for everyone.

6:31 pm

Where do the word stats come from?

6:35 pm

Wilson: can you answer that about the stats? All I know is that there are some 'solvers' online. And some people have other family members use them, count the words, etc., The solvers must obviously show the words themselves, so it's more difficult to try to cover them, do the counts, and not see what you don't want to see.

6:36 pm

Having stats posted is a real bonus. Otherwise you really are working in the dark - not knowing if you have more to find or not!!! :-)

tedy Im sorry no I can't answer that because my hubby does them and I have never asked him how because i don't want to see the words and spoil the game, however,I do know that sprite has a program that does the stats without seeing the words and i think thats what my hubby uses when he does stats. :))

6:46 pm

Thanks, tedybeth!!

6:49 pm

your welcome -- don't want anyone to give up on the game too soon! With 'noodling', I usually can come up with at least half on my own. Almost everyone has to use the clues from other players, etc. We're like a happy family --- always glad to see someone else get a word they've been looking for!!!

Welcome Jenni , Don't give up hun,I find it helps to take a breakand give your eyes a rest then come back and try again.Good Luck To ya and if you have any other questions or even need hints please fill free to ask, there are lots of friendly people here who would be glad to help.

6:59 pm

G7/36

7:00 pm

thanks, all - have to leave for today - only got 58 words for 849 points - tomorrow will be another puzzle!

7:06 pm

I am new to this and i don't understand the posts...for instance what is s7/36?

7:07 pm

FYI there are two G7/44's

7:07 pm

G7/36 a 7 letter word starting with "g" totalling 36 points.

7:10 pm

Thank you..now I get it!

7:10 pm

Dionne: it's the letter the word starts with, the number of letters, and the total point count. There's a like at the top of the page for all the 'rules', too. But we love to answer whatever questions we can - we all asked them when we started!

7:11 pm

CSA: I love it --- you explained in many less words than I did!! LOL --- thanks!

7:14 pm

Laziness. Lack of vocabulary to do a longer version.

7:17 pm

Broke 1000 -- that's all today for this noob. Wife and daughter are big Boggle fans, so I'll tell them about Babble.

7:23 pm

I can't find any of the G7s.

7:25 pm

niether can I mfpb221, any clues on those g7s guys? ;)

7:27 pm

G7/44=Bright or lively, especially in color (I only have the one so far)

7:28 pm

Ok, I found one of the G44s. Total nonsense word lol. I used a dictionary for it.

7:29 pm

G7/44: Of, relating to, or having a sexual orientation to persons of the same sex

7:29 pm

Or more commonly used to discribe...having a sexual orientation to persons of the same sex

7:29 pm

oops

7:31 pm

I've been playing for months and haven't had a grid be this hard for me. Oh well...maybe I should give up for today. lol

7:32 pm

anyone have both 9 letter words yet?

7:33 pm

awesome. thanks alley and uneaixoise

7:35 pm

S9/66: for my generation the initial meaning is to impose the separation of (a race or class) from the rest of society (white water fountain, black water fountain, front of the bus, back of the bus).

7:36 pm

only one letter difference between the two S9/66's

7:36 pm

rayna: The large S words all have to do with isolating or separating - variations of the spellings

7:41 pm

ahhh...thanks so much :D

7:56 pm

There's a G7/36 pl of a G6/24 - unbleached woven fabric

8:07 pm

Thanx, Tedybeth, good clues. Does anyone have clues for two of the 8 words. I have the P8/65 and T8/60. Please?

what does this mean? P8/65 and T8/60

8:39 pm

There's an 8 letter word, starting with a P, for 65 points. The other starts with a T, 8 letters, 60 points.

8:40 pm

unicorn7373: see clue posted by CAS at 7:07 -- explains it easily!

8:41 pm

Mary: P8/55 - the point in any orbit nearest to the body being orbited.

8:41 pm

This Babble game is very addictive. I've been at it for 2-1/2 hours and only have 124 words total for 1743 points. I think I will call it quits as I'm a little over 1/2 way through.

8:45 pm

Mary: no definition for the S8/50. But it's based on S4/4 -- meaning a break, pull or tear in a fabric; An unforseen or hidden obstacle.

8:49 pm

Tedybeth, you are the best. Got both of them. Thank you and to all a good night.

8:58 pm

any hints for the a744?

8:59 pm

oops, I mean a748

8:59 pm

I thought I was smart! Finish crosswords in about 4 minutes flat but I only have 48 words on this! Argh!

9:01 pm

I'm having a really tough time with the G7 fabric one. Is it a common word?

9:03 pm

Fit1: At any point in time; whenever.

9:03 pm

While forming a word, do the letters 'spill over' from the top of the board to the bottom, or right-to-left? e.g: In this puzzle is "P' considered adjacent to "O" or "A"?

9:05 pm

No, the G7 - fabric is not common at all. You could put the definition in a google search - might come up there ???

9:06 pm

Hexium: No, sadly. :P

9:07 pm

heXium: no -- the letters must be touching -- the longer words often wind all around the grid, but they will be 'connected'

9:07 pm

martin haha is that you

9:10 pm

Alastyr, tedybeth: thanks. I'm still getting the hang of this...currently 13 words for 257 points.

9:10 pm

seriously the fabric is killing me

9:10 pm

alastyr, thanks for the clue. Boy, how could I miss that one. :)

9:10 pm

hello all and welcome to the newcomers!!!! you'll get addicted quick. sounds like i missed lots today. was on really early..posted then got off...

9:12 pm

I got the fabric one!

9:17 pm

Yes got the g7

9:22 pm

how can there possibly be 100 more words that i am somehow missing?!?! :S

9:27 pm

9:36 pm

200 words--2938 points so far

9:38 pm

It's my first time and I've got 45 words for 567 points and I'm baffled. Any pointers for us newbies???

9:40 pm

9:40 pm

www.a2zwordfinder.com is really helpful

9:40 pm

not shabby at all, Blue!

9:41 pm

137words 1863

9:42 pm

116 words for 1622

9:44 pm

9:54 pm

10:09 pm

E7/28

10:10 pm

clue?

10:14 pm

(usually if you paste the definition into Google, the answer pops up) A slight convexity or swelling, as in the shaft of a column, intended to compensate for the illusion of concavity resulting from straight sides

10:18 pm

204, 3004 points--night all--same time same place tomorrow!

11:22 pm

First time playing -- so far, 85 words for 1345. Augh.
