11:03 am

There's a u5/10... never heard of it and the dictionary doesn't have a def. sorry. I can tell you that there is only 1 consonant in it.

11:04 am

Thanks--figured it out by guessing. All the u's are done, completing my first letter for the day.

11:06 am

I,VE GOT TWO 8'S JONATHON, BOTH R AND WORTH 75PTS, BUT CANT FIND THE 9

11:41 am

That's what you're trying to accomplish! :-) There's no prizes or anything, it's just for fun. Also, please don't post the words to chat -- it takes away the fun for everyone else!

11:41 am

Find as many words as possible before the end of the day. BE WARNED! Highly Addictive! This is only my 2nd game ever!

11:42 am

sorry! How do you know how many words there are? and it IS fun :)

11:43 am

Jen I found aw5x3 not included on your list

11:43 am

Someone posts the number and length of the words at some point - see next posting ->

2:30 pm

2:32 pm

de4/5x4 de4/7 de5/18

2:32 pm

You're missing: 1 x de4 4 x de5 1 x de6

2:33 pm

k just got a de4/11 after i posted that

2:33 pm

adios.....this is torture. 135 / 2115 is the best I've ever done. No complaints

2:34 pm

i think society has reached such a point that popular culture and intellectual activities such as Babble have crossed over each other and become fused. In short, 'Ewok' should be a word.

2:34 pm

Woah - edit that in view of your last post: 1 x de4 3 x de5 2 x de6

2:35 pm

--- Word Sizes --- 4 - 104 5 - 54 6 - 26 7 - 7 8 - 3 9 - 1 --- 195 Words Total --- --- Word Count --- A - 23 C - 14 D - 12 E - 12 F - 7 G - 12 I - 1 K - 14 L - 4 M - 9 N - 14 O - 3 P - 8 R - 16 T - 7 U - 4 W - 30 Y - 5

2:38 pm

oh sorry, i meant de5

2:39 pm

Boreetos, I vote that we can only make ewok a word if we make SETI a word. Still grumbling about that one from the other day . . . it accepts other acronyms . . . ;) Also, I seriously think Babble ought to allow names of languages, being that it allows names of currency, and also proper nouns that can also be used as commonplace adjectives, such as Hindu, or ajectives derived from proper nouns, such as Asian, especially since it for some reason allows Mayan and Celtic! But I digress . . . Who knows; maybe the game would lose its mystique if it weren't so darned quirky about what it considers real words . . .

2:40 pm

Seti should definatley be a word. I tried that one too.

2:41 pm

just got another de5

2:41 pm

what do you know when you can't even spell adjective

2:42 pm

I suppose if u play long enuf, u get to kno all the weird words, & recognise instantly that 'xpqm' means 'an extinct Mongolian weasel'!

2:42 pm

I'm confused now (not difficult :) ...) OK, all the Ds: de4 x 6 de5 x 4 de6 x 2

2:43 pm

okay. so i need 2 of the d5's and both d6's

2:43 pm

back to work kids.

2:45 pm

could only spare half an hour 50/561..not too bad for only my 2nd attempt..can see how this can become addictive

2:46 pm

Does anyone have all the R's? If so could you be so kind as to tell me which 3 I am missing? I have: ra4/5 ra5/14 re7/56 x 4 re8/75 x 2 re4/5 re6/39 x 2 re5/16 x 2

4:27 pm

For your L's: Night host jay 4/4- walked along the 6/36, aside the water, and found a 4/8, out of place, and he 6/21 it go(past tense). Now where's my other an 4/4 that's not already too easy to find?

4:27 pm

Cheers baggo - that hits the spot

The only L I have is an L6/21 which looks like it could be the past tense of a word that means to allow. I didn't even know that this was a word, but I just guessed it.

4:37 pm

Thank you PAV3. That gave me 3 of them. Don't understand the out of place one, but thanks!

Goonight Peter. I'll be off myself soon at 101 words 1268. Not too bad for a first try.

7:20 pm

Mi 6, an occupation, trade or profession. the word (if not pronounced with the french pronunciation) reminds me of something in the sky that starts with m, but like a comet. but spelled very differently

7:21 pm

7:22 pm

do-oh! I feel like such an idiot!

7:22 pm

oh . . . jax, you meant mE6, right?

7:22 pm

Careful Jax, that's the me6 you're defining :)

7:23 pm

Uneaixoise - Yes, there are 2 me6/24s.

7:25 pm

Woah - reality check here! How come the grid takes mi6/24 (sounds like baby cat)? when the letters don't match up??

7:25 pm

No, there's an mi6/24 and an me6/24.

7:26 pm

They do Anj, start with the bottom t first and go up!

7:26 pm

1.25am here folks and time I was off. Got my forum to see to before I zzzzzzzzzz. It's been a good first day and I hope to 'see' you all again soon. Goodnight.

7:27 pm

Lola & Anj - Oops! Yes, sorry. 1 me6/24 and 1mi6/24.

7:27 pm

sorry, Lola, I can't stay any more :( But I'm expecting you to beat me!

7:29 pm

One last easy clue for mi6/24 before I go. A fingerless glove. It does work on the grid, I promise you, but in a very roundabout way.

7:29 pm

Has anyone completed the W's?

7:30 pm

But you've only got 3 words left to find!!!!

8:23 pm

D'oh! Silly Q... Between Llama's list and my last post that should be all the Ws

8:30 pm

Okay, so I must be missing a we4. I have we4/7 x 5, we4/8, we4/11 x 4 and we4/9. A total of 18 x w4. Is that right?

8:40 pm

I found it!!! Yay, 195 words, thanks for all your help guys, goodnight! :)

8:41 pm

I've got 6 x we4/7s. What ones do you have?

8:42 pm

There are only 10 WE4's. I don't put point scores in there, just the first two letters, total length of the word, then number of words. Your total seems to be more than that.

8:42 pm

Sorted! Goodnight :)

8:58 pm

Has anyone a hint for my last we6 word? I have we6/30...just need one more to close off the w's.

9:08 pm

hugabugs--I found it just now!! add 'ed' to one of your we4/7s.....

9:09 pm

also adds up to we6/30....

9:09 pm

Babbler I just found the we4/7 plus 'ed' word that you did. What's the other we6 hint?

9:12 pm

there are only 2 we/6 words. one's to do with gardening, the other is an obsolete word for 'wet'.

9:13 pm

has anyone completed the Cs? I'm looking for clues for co6 and co8. thx

9:18 pm

co6/36 A leguminous climbing plant

9:18 pm

babbler might you have any more hints other than an obsolete word for wet?

9:19 pm

Babbler... Thanks Just 2 more words and I've got the list complete.

9:19 pm

ca6: a yellow bird co8: small bits of paper you throw at a wedding

9:19 pm

co8/65 candy, latin

9:20 pm

sorry, wrong way around...

9:20 pm

we6/36, to know + suffix

9:22 pm

grrr. we6/30, to know + suffix

9:23 pm

sj - the we6 is the we4/7 + ed. The we4/7 is a Chaucerian (??) word for wet. I don't know how else to describe, I only found it by accident! : ))). The we4/7 in question sounds like a grain.......

9:23 pm

thank you both so much!

9:25 pm

thanks brandyjack + swmbo. just the leguminous plant to find for the Cs....

9:25 pm

(blush) did I read the definition wrong for that we4/7?? eek! sorry.

9:28 pm

no, both definitions fit, and are obscure

9:30 pm

I'm just missing two... de6 I have de6/24 and ur5 I have ur5/14..... anybody? This is the closest I've ever come to all the words.

9:32 pm

Oh... I got the u5.... just one left

9:33 pm

This is my first puzzle...I am already addicted...i have 83 words and I have no idea about any others...but his is so fun!

9:34 pm

Do you have the De 6 word that would be associated with temperature?

9:36 pm

EgelNest - Yes I do. I think the one I have missing is de6/30

9:36 pm

de6/24 is what you get when you graduate from university.

9:36 pm

the de6/24 is similar to a de5/18 (indian gov't operative), but no definition availble. double up the vowel

9:36 pm

I have tried looking for that one too :) Good Luck!

9:37 pm

that's twice. the DE6/30 is the funky one. de6/24 is temperature related.

9:40 pm

does anyone have another clue for the co6 leguminous climbing plant? thx

9:41 pm

de6/30 Two parts First part is the 4th letter of the laphabet second part a word that means pale

9:41 pm

the first part of the word goes moo... the second part is how old you are...

9:42 pm

Yes, I would also like the plant, then that has to be it for me!

9:42 pm

er, mucuna?

9:42 pm

swmbo ---- *huge hugs* Thanks so much... GOT IT!

9:44 pm

egelnest - you are brilliant!

9:45 pm

and thank YOU EgelNest. Off to bed. I didn't finish but I am pleased with my results. 157/2572

9:45 pm

brandyjack - just googled mucuna. thx to you too for the clue

9:46 pm

51 to go.

9:49 pm

brandyjack-- how did you get the word distribution if you're still doing the puzzle? I thought you were the Babble Meister!

9:56 pm

found a progyy that will generate the wordlist on screen. then i cross my eyes, cut and paste to a text file. Then i wrote a proggy in old GWBASIC that mashes the text file and generates the stats. Occasionally I don't cross my eyes enough and get a couple of free words.

10:00 pm

wow that's clever. You ARE the Babble Meister!!

10:01 pm

8 words to go and I need your help!!! For starters I'm missing the 2 re 5's. clues or points pleeeeeese

10:04 pm

jax-- one is when you win again. the other is when you're pale again...

10:04 pm

both are re5/16

10:15 pm

Jax-- I've got all the As. I've got almost all the Ds (one to go). I've got 4 more Ws to find. What do you need?

10:21 pm

Ijust found my last D. Whoo Hoo. But I'm stuck on that darn A. I need an AW 6 and I think I have the 2 ones that are kinda repeated throughout the puzzle So I need the other one.

10:22 pm

Thanks Babbler. Let ne know if I can help with the D and maybe swap some W's, unless 2 that you are missing are same for me!

10:24 pm

jax-- yes please help me with that D! I bet it was the de5 you just found (??). Let me know which A you want. yes, let's see what we can do with the Ws!

10:25 pm

Wow. that was random. Just finished my W's. So I'm counting on you Babbler for that last A!! Can I help with you w's?

10:26 pm

well, the two aw6/36's are when someone does it to you or you do it on your own. AW6/39 is when you are too worn out to aw6/36 or be aw6/36'd.

10:26 pm

jax-- the a6/36?? the one where you a-tired? (that's a cheeky clue)!

10:26 pm

I need an Aw 6. The D I just found was a de 5/18, there are 4 of them. Is that what you need?

10:28 pm

thx jax.... let me just work out which Ws I need. If that's ok? I'm also looking for that de5/4!

10:29 pm

oops, hang on. I have 2 x de5/18s. I think there are 3. I'm looking for the 3rd. I've got the funky indian govt person, and I've got the uni qualification

10:30 pm

Bless you babs! This is the 1st one I finished. I told my husband if I got them all he wouldn't be a widower tomorrow. Our son has been away all week but I've been stuck up here! Yeah. My husband will love you!!! the de - think sun

10:30 pm

They should set off stars and suns when you finish. If someone didn't post the stats you could keep going driving yourself nuts!@

10:31 pm

i'm braindead! I mean there are four de5s of course. I've got what you get from da sun as well...

10:32 pm

Babbler - there are 4 de 18's

10:33 pm

Okay - do you have this de? Think Iraq

10:34 pm

the de's - sun, Iraq, pale, sweetheart

10:37 pm

yayy! thx, got the D! For the Ws, I need 2 more wa4s, and 2 more we5s. (I'm at 170 words by the way - a long way behind you!) Congrats for finishing!!! : )))

10:39 pm

I have the 2 Aw6's that go together, but I am missing the other one.

10:43 pm

the clue for that is at 10:26, although calling my mad maunderings clues could be stretching it a bit.......

10:44 pm

Babbler - do you know what W's you need? I'm gonna hit the road soon, but wanted to stick around and help since you and Brandyjack saved me!

10:46 pm

babbler - 1 we 5 is the word you gave me without the a. the other we 5 is a type of haircut, shoe, and golfclub

10:47 pm

Help! 37 to go. have pe5/14x2. Any clues?

10:48 pm

it's like the small pe word

10:50 pm

also part of phrase meaning "small cake" in French

10:51 pm

babbler - the wa's are 4/13, 4/8, 4/11, 4/10 x 2 and 4/7 x2. do you know which one you need?

10:53 pm

jax-- I got them! I need some w4s, but don't want to keep you if you need to go. Could you give me a clue to the Pes? I'm after that 7!

10:55 pm

While we're on the Wa subject I am missing a Wa5...

10:56 pm

Pe 6 is little kids baseball, pe 7 - think a kind of cash, then think about a person like that and make them more like that.

10:57 pm

ahaa! I need a wa4/7 and a 4/10. I've got the one where you're a bit anxious, and what shopkeepers have.

10:57 pm

fnurt - if it is the one that I had trouble with you have one just like it with an o on the end, change the o to another vowel

10:59 pm

thanks! lot of wacky words in this one.

11:00 pm

Babbler - the w4/10 is to ebb, from Chaucer. you usually think of this word with a vowel on the end. the w4/7 is and old word for worse. Think Iraq and add another vowel in the middle. good luck and nightie night all!

11:01 pm

Have kn5/24. Tried all combos could think of. Any clues on other?

11:01 pm

nite nite jax!! thanks for the help!

11:01 pm

Prayer might give you the answer...

11:03 pm

kn/5 you do it in a church

11:04 pm

oops! That's the one I have. kn5/18

11:07 pm

you should "know" the other one

11:21 pm

190 is enough for me. nite all

11:23 pm

I'm still stuck on the Pe/7 - can't figure out "kind of cash" in earlier clue - anyone have any other clues?

11:25 pm

nite brandyjack! cbr -- think of someone very small minded....

11:29 pm

Thanks much - got it!

11:48 pm

How many people *really* play without using a word list?

11:51 pm

I am but I only have 97

11:52 pm

I don't use a word list

11:52 pm

I lucked into 117 this time - with some lucky guessing for several "words"

11:53 pm

or a word distribution tool either...

11:53 pm

I've got 178. don't ask me how!!

11:53 pm

I have 143 words - 2429 points , without using a dictionary, word list or search engine. It is the only way to play. Otherwise you just make it a boring wordsearch puzzle.

11:53 pm

what's a word distribution tool? like brandyjack's?

11:54 pm

I used a2zwordfiner yesterday. Never again! I went word-blind!

11:55 pm

and it was really booooooring!

11:57 pm

true Zade... and well done too.!

11:58 pm

you get more a buzz when you find words yourself!

11:59 pm

absolutely Babbler

12:00 am

but I do use google and the online dictionary. so I guess I'm not as good as Zade!
