someone dope slap me now... and HARD! Got it!
Check out the 1:03 post for the As, although there's one too many am4/6s listed. Should total 9
can anyone post the breakdown for the i's?
LadySmiler, if the group is tricky (8:31 post) it's also an acronym used in electronics and euro finance. Right - have to run, back later

join the club cadfan...think my haircut removed my brains...lol
in 5/14 is not the plural of one of the in 6/24's
the in5/14 is the in6/24 without a plural ending. Ok back to my PhD...

yes two i4/8 and something else i can't figure out
for me it was one of those things where i kept seeing the word and thinking i already entered it

Cant help, got no O's yet
for the O's -clue given earlier for 6/39 was to think of willie wonka characters, for 5/24 it's a sound of frustration
i'm depressingly short on p's and s's. Can someone post the breakdowns for each with 2nd letters, number of letters, and point values?
jacula - switch one of your m/4 words back to front to get the d/4
5/24 not sound of frustration, but means to have spirit.
Got an O after getting annoyed with it ages ago I just added another letter and wham bam
2nd O is not coming :-(
It's an onomatopeia
begrery & cathy22 - Thanks! Got 'em.
Good afternoon (well mid day) from the great east coast of Canada =D

thanks anyway begrery
BeGrery you are an absolute star!!!!! CJ25 I'm on 81 and i've been at it for 7 bl***y hours. very frustrating.
The 2nd "O' could be described as the sound you make when someone punches you in the stomach.
Make that 84

CadFan oowi isn't a word.
Loved Zade's definition of the m7/52. (See posting of 5:56.) Sent me off to the shops laughing.:-)
At least I broke 1000 today.
I could reprogramme it if I had one :-) 144 words is correct, for a robot to do.
91 words here and I need to clear my head and get on with something useful.
what does the abbrevation m7/52 stand for?
Letter M, 7 Letters, 52 Points
Okay, where can I find a second letter hint list, is there a program somewhere on the site??

Thank you cbr, and lola!!
Ah that's the famous (not) earwiper, LOL!
w5/24 is a plural of w4/11
jera- how about a clue for that ep4? I just can't see it...... :(
Is there an I list other than the one that had 10 words on it?
An ancient unit of dry measure, equal to about one bushel
Sorry lola I was trying to cheat with my dictionary... bergery is right
It's sad when you can't even cheat right
begrery, jera- I thank you and my family thank you- now I can go and make them dinner!!!!!!! :)
lola - the ep4/9. If you had been searching the record shops for one you might say ''**!" when you found it.
Hmmm what would I say if someone punched me in the stomach... I don't think it would start with an O...
LOL @ lola... my family didn't get fed last night...
Jera - You would, especially if they put a bit of o**** into it.

ep4 = hebrew measurement
Anyone have clues for the H9 and the E8 yet?
Judi H9 think singing especially in groups
ea8/65 - You hear things through it but it doesn't ring. em4/9 - electromagnetic fields. em4/6 - a prince, chieftain or govenor, esp. in the Middle East. ep4/9 - an ancient Hebrew unit of dry measure. I also gave a different clue for this - see lower post.
ep4/9. If you had been searching the record shops for one you might say ''**!" when you found it. That's the other clue for it.

Judi - There's a hairspray and hair dye the brand name of which sounds like the H9/84.
Judi, long shot, but for the H9 think 'is she or isn't she?!' It's the plural of that
Only got 3 n's myself, begrery.
Don't feel bad, I'm still clueless (even with the clues) about the ea8
karenh another e8 hint, please?
i have 7 n's cant find more as of yet
Got it!! Just had to twist a bit more... thanks all!
another clue for ea8.....used with walkman
ea8 think of a barber shop quartet when they put alto, tenor etc. together
Judi - this is a rubbish clue but if you know the Harry Potter books the female character's names sounds sort of like the H8 word but with a different ending
sorry, brain dead, i was thinking of H9 with my last clue not ea8
Is there an A list breakdown?
Jera - (e8) If you can't 'ear me now I'll have to give you a ring! (Does this help?)
jera - if you have the p5/20 you need a three letter prefix for it

"mens" is not valid because men is the plural of man. If you are thinking "Men's Room" it is possessive and would need an apostrophe. That is how I would reason why "mens" is not an accepted word.
bcritch -- did you find the H9 yet?
You know, I used to care what these words actually meant. Now, I think I just developed an addiction or OCD.
thanks jakes mum
pr6/36 is the plural of pr5/22

that's not the one i need, i need ha5/20
i also need me6/24, me6/30, mo4/7, and mo5/14 then i'm done
rachelef - yes, they do. each sk5/18 adds up to 9, then multiply bt 2.
scratch that i have mo4/7 it was plain as the nose on my face
ha5/20 = h+ar4/6
yeah but why are they multiplied by 2? sorry i've only played like 3 puzzles..
actuallly i only need ha5/20, can anyone give me a good clue for that

Thanks cathy & Kalia!! Need a break now... I'll be back for the last 35.
Are you guys using the beta version of Babble? So much better than the previous
No idea - CBR. Just used the website I found in last weekend's Mail on Sunday (UK). What's the babble address then?
137/2047 here. I need 1 last 'a' (ar 6/24), 3 h's, 1 'm' (me 6/24), 1 'p' (pr5/18) & 1 'r'.
cbr, I got an e-mail invite to try the beta version. I like it. Still has a few bugs. http://beta.playbabble.com
Gwen - thanks for the beta addy. I'll try it tomorrow, though I've had no probs. in y 1st week on this site.
jacula, ar6/24 is pl of ar5/14
Thanks Gwen. Got that.:-)
any hints on the ar5 / have got ar5-14 need other one
jacula, add 'ie' to your me4/6 for me6/24. There are 3 pr5/18's use different vowels at the end. aeo
Thanks Gwen. Got the 'm' one now and thanks for the clue i it shows you're not a 'm***ie'. I must be barking up the wrong tree with the final 'p' as I already have 3 pr5/18s.
ok.. have 120... will bbl to see if i can conquer this thing today!!
i'm back, thanks for the clue kallia...i'm done woohoo!
pegsin - do you mean you need another ae5/14?

Oops! Meant aR5/14.

Many thanks.

ar5/14 According to Columella, a Gallic word for a measure equiv. to half a Roman jugerum.] Formerly, a measure of land in France, varying in different parts of the country.
sorry for the repeat messages...a little beta glitch?
pegsin - your missing ar5/14 is someone who hands out weapons.
Gwen - ha5 is the plural of ha4/9, unless it's another ha5 in the 3 h's I haven't yet got. Your sp5/20 is an Algerian cavalryman in the French army. To break down the word, first think of a health sp* and then what 2-letter word you might say to a friend you met there.
I see there have been 800 msgs in the log today. No wonder, given what a hard one today's puzzle has been.
Before undefined took over, ... Thanks Jacula!!! got the ha5 and sp5. Now only need he4 (got pile, rope, skirt bottom and chicken)
girlfriday - me6/13 is the plural of the male version of some fishy maids.
thanks jacula...only three left!
thanx have now got all the a's
fishy maids? I think my brain is too fried for that one!
Gwen - I'll let you know if I ever find the he4.
ph6/39 anyone?
Hellllllppppp I am looking for pe5 (already have pe5/14) and pr6 (already have pr6/30)
Gwen - just looked at grid again and it stood out clear as day. The missig he4 is what those things on either side of your head do! DOH!
Gwen - To perceive (sound) by the ear he4
girlfriday.. think of a john travolta movie.
girlfriday - ph6/39 is the first six letters of a film John Travolta was in. It is slang for 'an outstanding person'.
4 words left to go for me - 2 h's,1 p & an r. Will have to go back to BrandyJack's breakdown to try for more detail.
DOH (slaps head), add another tassle. Got it!!! Thanks !!!
Beepy - can you help on pe5 (already have pe5/14) and pr6 (already have pr6/30)
Okay, guys, thanks so much for the help now bring me home... *me6/30 any other clue besides "fishy maids" Im sure it's incredibly fab clue but I'm wiped
--- Word Count --- A - 9 D - 1 E - 4 H - 25 I - 6 K - 4 M - 17 N - 11 O - 2 P - 25 R - 16 S - 16 W - 8
Moozey, pe5 is an anagram of what a man attaches so much importance to in ma7 LOL
me6/30 clue..movie with daryl hannah and tom hanks she was a me.(someone who cleans your house) but he would be a me.(male)
girlfriday, change the gender of your 'fishy maids'
a male version of Ariel (disney movie)
girlfriday. who would ariel the mermaid marry?
Moozet - pe5, if you already have the one that sounds like what a woman gets when in labour, is the plural of your pe4/8. (The hairdo one.)
Sorry - meant Moozey. Getting tired now.
THANKS!!!!you guys rock. Okay, one more!!! PR5/18...I have two that mean first/best and the one that means to preen... I will now be able to finally get some real work done!
hairdo one, thank you just pr6 to go and then I can go to bed. Only 1:25 here zzzzzzz
moozey....it's what young children long ago learned to read from
or what you put underneath a coat of paint first...
Moozey - I see you must be in UK like me. I'm beginning to think it's a pr6 that's eluding me, too. I have one (the pre-painting one) but is there another?
I have the undercoat of paint one
girlfriday, see my 6:44 post to jacula
moozey
and yes Jacula I'm from the UK
pr6....oh, yes there is another one..."she preens
moozey
yes Gwen??
moozey jacula. pl of pr5/22 (undefined ate my post)
moozey, what a girl does in front of the mirror before going out....preens and .......
I think I may kiss you but instead I will fall asleep, thank you for helping me with my last two
girlfriend did you find your Pr5?
Thanks everyone. I finally finished my first puzzle!!! I'm happy to provide clues for a bit if I can help .
cos I think you are looking for a pr*** ballerina
desperate for o's please!!!!
I seem to be looking for 2 h's, possibly an' ha' and an' he' (no laughing ha he, please!) and a pr6 (not the pre-paint one) and an ri5 (not the one that defines what fruit gets the longer you leave it). Any clues anyone?
oo6 - A rhythmic sound made by a tuba or other brass instrument
I'm stuck on the Ea one all help deeply and grealy appreciated.
...and why isn't 'primper' allowed? Surely one who primps must be a primper?
oo6 - A rhythmic sound made by a tuba or other brass instrument oo5 - Spirited vigor (rest of word is all consonants)
oo6 - A rhythmic sound made by a tuba or other brass instrument oo5 - Spirited vigor (rest of word is all consonants)
oo6 - A rhythmic sound made by a tuba or other brass instrument oo5 - Spirited vigor (rest of word is all consonants)
pegsin - if you came onto my forum and said 'desperate for o's please' I wouldn't like to imagine what answers you'd get!LOL. Sorry. I'm getting hysterical now looking for the last 4 words.:-(
Moozey - are there 3 of you??
sorry for the multiple posts, seem to be burping here hahaha Jacula what other forum do you visit for o's to be hilarious??
Just got the 'r'. Seen that so many times throughout this long day but thought I'd already tried it.
Jacula RI5....take the variant spelling of " there's no r... or reason" (ri4) then make it one who does that....
jacula-we all hysterical just doing this. moozey- great help found the 2 o words thanx
Forums? Quite a few Moozey but none of 'that' kind! Just nice places where we all have a laugh, sometimes tease each other and have meets for real every now and then.
oo6...a little man in Wonka's factory...
And to think I call someone a pesk all the time, and it isn't even a word.
can anyone help with Ea8
At 03:40 pm lola100 said... Denny- ea8/65: if you are not listening to music thru' your speakers you are using ********s :)
Hello battybeyond. Yes, we did the ea8 earlier. You might use it if you were a little mutton jeff. But, the things that rings rather than the brass instrument.
I still need a pr6 (not the pre-paint one) and a couple of h's.
I'd post my 'h' list in the order I have it but it's rather long...
is there really a ae5/14?
I see some of you seem to know each other and e-mail each other etc. Do you all meet on another site or did you meet here? I did see someone ask earlier in the day how long 'babble' has been going and if BrandyJack's the puzzle setter but I don't think they got an answer. I came here just this week after seeing the site addy in the UK's Mail on Sunday mag.

thx, i got the ar5/14s

I can't find that last 'p'. Has everyone gone?
I still can't getthe Ea8. I feel like an idiot. Have mercy upon me, I'm amercian :)
i can't believe there is a 9-letter word in it?
and a bad speller too
I have all the S words but 2. SE - 6/30 SP - 5/20
EA8 When you listen to a stereo but don't want anyone else to hear you use .....
Batty: It's a combination of E3 and PH5/20...
bless you LOL I actually managed to get it on my own *triumphant cheer* right before you posted.
battybeyond - LOL. I thought you were saying you were A Mercian. If you were, you'd be from Mercia here in UK. I don't know your age, but if you're in your 40s like me, then you might well remember transistor radios and the little thing you plugged into the side of one in order to listen to it just to yourself? That's your 'ea' word.
any breakdown for the ha9 please
Jacula ~ I have 2 HA - 6/33
Jacula... mid-20's. I'm at work and bored :)
Minski - I only have one ha6/33 so it's probably one of those I'm missing (not the one who plays the stringed instrument, sort of.)
it goes inbetween the 9 and the 4 just above it and is related to the 4
actually the root is the same as the 9 also
yeah I've gotten everything but the Ha9 of the ha's.
Batty check out my last 2 clues. they might help you find the 9
I guess it starts 'harm'? But I'm no wiser.
add a popular 2 letter suffix
Are there really 2 Hi words? I can only find 1 and it's making me crazy.
Is it illegal to use a dictionary? Just thought I'd ask
think... multiple greetings :)

Jacula ~ I also found a HE - 5/24 that I don't think you have. It's a plural of a HE - 4/11
I have the Hi that means To go quickly; hasten. I don't have the other one.
Chuck I use www.a2zwordfinder.com for most of my help.
Minski - Thank you. I bow down before you for that.
Thanks, Minski
How can there be 12 ha's when I have 10 of them but am only one word short of the h's? No wonder I'm getting confused on that last 'h' word.
I'm still missing an Hi and 2 HAs (5/20 & 4/7)
Oh! Just done a recount and I've got 11. (Red-faced now.)
i'm not the puzzle designer or setter. that honor belongs to the one Dr_God. I'm just a poor addicted sod with nothing better to do than waste my energy programming in old GWBASIC. And all it does is use someone else's decoder to generate the list which it then analyses and spits out all those tantalising clues......
I have 22 H words and am missing 3. I also have only 10 HAs but I am missing 2 of them.
minski, had u any luck with the ha9 and ur site?
it's the opposite of dissonances
HINT: There are 4 HA words that start with the same 4 letters. The HA 9 is one of them. In order they go.... 4/9 6/33 9/84 5/20 HTH
Well thanks for all your sterling work BrandyJack. I do mean that! First thing I do when I log on is copy off the grid. Then I look for your breakdown of number of words and how many for each letter.
Are there really 2 Hi words? Could I please have definitions if they exist? Also does anyone have the HA 4/7 that is either the 3rd word or the 4th word? I have one but not the other.
WOW! I think I have the highest score ever for the least amount of words. 86 words for 1222 points.
After that I go away with a pen & paper and either sit at the kitchen table or in the garden (depending on the weather) and see what I can come up with for myself. I then put all those words in and go to look for clues from the log after that.
I have 91 with 1369 - lots of long words today
the Enable dictionary needs a serious houscleaning - hi4/7 A unit of liquid measure used by the ancient Hebrews, equal to about five liters Hi4/7 - To go quickly; hasten.
Thanks Brandy. Found the missing Hi. Still missing a HA 4/7 though.
i thin I may be looking for a 'harm' 6/44,
oh dear, now I'm missing an In6
meant harm 6/33 (not the one who plays an instrument)
Is that the trouser length, the things on the side of the top of your body or the width between your thumb and little finger when stretched out?
one who harms is a harm^^
oh, this beta is the BEST! Thanks, Dr. God!
That last posting was to batty.
oh, this beta is the BEST! Thanks, Dr. God!
oh, this beta is the BEST! Thanks, Dr. God!
sry, but it's too late for me to find the word but i can't sleep well knowing that i didn't find the ha9 ...
They used to post the points breakdown on the right side of the screen. Where is it posted now? I don't remember it.
Minski - Thanks. for that. Got it but still can't find it in the grid. Only one word to go now and that's that last pr6.
nope got both of those. and the ina---
from the R go up to the M not down to the M
Enough is enough. I have to pack. We are going to New Hampshire this weekend. TTFN
Minski, enjoy NH, its a beautfiul area
I forgot to add.................. GO PATRIOTS!!!
Think I'm going to have to give up with one word to go. Thanks for all the clues Minski (and have a good weekend!) Sorry I was too thick and tired to read them.x
what else is there: harpermi?
ha/4 + mo/6
can anyone help with an in6? i've got the plural of the ina, the pantlength and the fingerlength
the ha9 starts off as your ha4 that's negative and ends up being musical in nature, but is not a root of your musical ha4
and it's a plural
BrandyJack - that last pr6 (not the first reading book/pre-paint thing). Heeeelllp, pretty please. I won't sleep if you don't:-(
jacula... i think what you're looking for is the plural of one of your pr5's
the present tense of pritifying.
Need help: HE5 not plural piles
Scratch that... got it
plural kind of rope made from wacky weed. I'm looking for my In6 if anyone can help. It's making me nuts
pr6/36 To dress or groom (oneself) with meticulous or excessive attention to detail. Plural of the pr5/22
Okay, need IN6... not plural limbs or pantlength... TIA
I also have 2 MA4's that are driving me crazy.
I'm there. 144 word, 2209 points. Thank you BrandyJack. I guess I owe you several shots of your favourite brandy now? Which is?
jera and batty - in 6 - think of a bridge and what it does
this puzzle has been bad for mis-directions. that M over by the two O's is almost invisible compared to the two M's atop each other. So you make the PR5/22 that is easy to see, but you miss the same word using the other M becasue it is so difficult to see and thus miss the pluralisation of it. Although strictly speaking it may not be a plural..... My grammar is not the best. I got a 51 in english studies so they wouldn't have to look at my ugly face for another year.....
er, Napoleon liked his brandies, look what it did to him... I prefer a good bottle of Drambui or Grand Marnier.
batty - that last 'in'. It's what your fingers would be if they were where you expected them to measure. The proper definition is 'attach a yoke or harness to' (an ox, donkey or other beast of burden).
Well BrabdyJack, I don't know where you live, but I would guess the US or Canada, given the times you are here? I keep odd hours and so hence the nickname 'Jacula' (it's really Jackie or Jacq). There's a bottle of Grand Marnier her in UK for you. Thanks for all your help.
There's the ton of bricks I needed,, thans jacula... you too jax, not your fault I'm dense, LOL
And the least I culd do when thanking you is spell you name right - BrandyJack. Sorry! It's late here!
how aggrivating. how I'm missing an ma6
Ontario, Canada
...so late I don't even seem to be able to type straight anymore. LOL. Still not had the answer to the question about how long this site's been running.
Jera - it's someone who works out where people are or should be. Failing that, their work appears in books that show roads and places to guide people on their way.
I could have sworn I used marm in the past, another puzzle
all done! goodnight from hot, humid, steamy Nashville, Tennessee!
Ontario - I have relatives there in Courtice.
any help on an ma7?
Clues for the me6 that isn't me6/24 formed using me4/6?
I need the darn ma 7
battybeyond-- is there more than one ma6? I have one-- do you want a clue?
Hi aggie!!! back for more torment, I see!
another Ontarion here
Jera - you probably did. They had 'sefton' in here a couple of days ago but in the next day's puzzle it wasn't allowed.
smith - the male version of a vision in the sea, ariel the little....
Jacula... I think someone had the conversation about this site earlier... I think someone said it started in 2003?
Hey there, Cath! Yes! I'm doing muuuuuuch better today-- but still nowhere close to finishing....
Someone's got to tell the US Marine Corps that "semper" is not a word--but it's not gonna be me!
Hey there, Cath! Yes! I'm doing muuuuuuch better today-- but still nowhere close to finishing....
Someone's got to tell the US Marine Corps that "semper" is not a word--but it's not gonna be me!
I got that one Jacula, I miscounted my blanks, I need MA7, wahh
Uneaixoise s - g'night. I am hearing the sounds from the grand old opry now.:-)
mom23!! I agree! The same for "spam"!!! Both of those are words!
semper is a word. it's just not an english word. it's latin.
Also still need a pesky MA4... I hate when the short ones elude me makes me feel stupi!
Bless you, jax!
ma7...What so many people with y chromosomes are so proud of... Used in historical romance novels a lot.
mom23 - that semper word, as you put it (last 2 letters turned around) IS a word. It's a Latin term used in music now and means 'mainly the same throughout'. Much like modern so-called 'music' then! LOL.
p6/30
THANK YOU smithchick!!! I was JUST looking for that exact word!!
hilaryfan1 - p6/30 - what you put on before you paint something.
Jera (jax?) are you a Jacqueline?
smithchick, I don't get it but your hint frightens me, LOL!
smithchick my brain's a little fried. could you please expand upon that hint for the MA 7? I know I'm going to kick myself when I finally get it.
Think of a phallic symbol--What it was formerly called (in the interest of not being crude?)
minski... expand is perhaps a very topical choice of word for this particular clue, especially in the context!
Jera - politest version of what you are looking for today is 'when a boy grows up, he enters ma*****. Failing that, try 'male headgear', 'meat and 2 veg', 'middle wicket', 'bat & balls' or the drawing I 00
Not me. I'm a Kelly. LOL. My son's name is Jackson so I sometimes just go with jax
I'm just Jera... it's from a rune, meaning harvest.
Failing all of that read the clue I got in an instant earlier today (here in UK). It sent me off smiling for the day... 'It's not how big it is but what you do with it.'
i am stuck on a ph/6 - i got the ones to do with giving one a bell.... i am missing something"!
What am I still doing here at 3.59 am UK time when I've already got all the words?
Thanks!! I get it at last... I'll stop trying to spell penis now, LOL
