Good morning everyone. From one extreme to the other - only 41 words on Monday. Unlikely that I'll have time to finish today!

3:03 am

morning all. no way is this getting finished today - so many words, so little time...!

3:03 am

433 Words, may as well give up now :-) On your marks...

3:04 am

..and hard to ask for clues "it's a p word, but not one of these other 60 I'll just describe"!

3:07 am

doesnt accept arsy or arsey! Tsk tsk :-)

3:08 am

chessy very true. but will there be a chance to ask when there are so many to find?

3:08 am

perhaps it's cleaned up its language - there've been some pretty dodgy words recently!

3:12 am

Hi Jera - thanks! hope your daughter keeps up the fencing, its definitely worth it.

3:19 am

Good morning, Rhiannon... did you see where I replied to you yesterday?

3:27 am

I did - i gave up early yesterday! thanks for the compliment. glad to hear your daughter loves fencing - it can become an addiction!

3:30 am

So far it's only been a camp-like/worshop atmosphere. I told her if she's serious & does all the intor stuff, I'll buy her equipment. It's a bit pricey!

3:31 am

Right now she rents from the academy, but we bought her gloves.

3:45 am

Is this the most available words ever? It's the most since I've been playing but that isn't all that long.

4:00 am

Well, I'm going back to bed for a few hours until the baby gets up. Only 300 more to go!

4:10 am

Hi Jera - it is expensive but a lot of the equipment lasts for ages if you take care of it. recommend getting her own mask as club ones can be a bit gross (in my club anyway) and you can get a better fit.

4:45 am

I am very new to this game - and addicted already - but am I missing something ? - how does everybody KNOW how many words to look for ?

4:46 am

look at the stats posted at the bottom of the chat area

5:13 am

7:35 am

Cheers Moozey, but I try to hang to at least a shred of dignity on most occasions lol

7:37 am

7:38 am

there are TEN 9 letter words?

7:41 am

Thanks! Even though we don't get SKY here in DC, I remembered my soocer games from time in England. LOL (plus the many clooege football games here)

7:42 am

Oops, meant college!

7:44 am

from postings earlier there are r9/60 r9/54 a9/72 p9/90 & p9/66 plus the s9/78 leave 4 more to find :((

7:46 am

the p9/66 is plural of a p8/50

7:46 am

I've got an r9/66 ...

7:48 am

Well that's 240 in 2.5 hours using plenty of hit'n'hope. The next 193 are gonna hurt, I just know it :( Bring me coffee & chocolate...catering size :)

7:50 am

Hi ubgrud! any clue for the kr6/30??? thx ;)

7:50 am

Micha - you might see it on the moon but first letter with a K instead of a C

7:53 am

thx Moozey you're gr8!

7:53 am

ubgrud, i have a ke5/24

7:53 am

hi pat5

7:54 am

8:00 am

Hi Uneaixoise!! any hint about the ke 5/24??

8:01 am

Moozey: RSI???

8:02 am

voted for him in last election

8:07 am

Cheers - that was a very democratic clue Uneaixoise :) Fmitch - any clue on the p8/50??

8:07 am

Good morning from Boston (US, not UK)- don't know how I'll get even halfway through while still getting some work done. Micha - kr6/30 sounds like the big, round valleys on the surface of the moon, but spelled with 'k'.

8:08 am

Swimmy - Repetitive Strain Injury after tapping at your keyboard all day

8:10 am

I think I'm losing the will to live ....

8:10 am

me too chessy...the k's are killing me

8:10 am

LOL Moozey, I think hunt and peck typists like me are at less risk, we are literally 'all over the place' LOL How's your score so far?

8:11 am

P8/50 An ornamental flower garden having the beds and paths arranged to form a pattern. (french)

8:11 am

... when I think I still have as many 't' words to find as there were in the whole of the recent puzzle ... forget it!:)

8:12 am

Uneaixoise could you elucidate your voting clue for us non-Brits?

Hey, jrs, I'm in Boston, too!

8:13 am

the ka6/30 is killin' me! any hints?

8:13 am

could always say it is a County in Ireland us Brits should get that one

8:14 am

ka/6 is the plural of ka/5

8:15 am

there are 2 x k6/30

8:17 am

then I am screwed, cause I don't even have a ka5 that can be made plural. :( thanks guys anyway!

8:17 am

jen.this is the only way i am coping.. http://www.a2zwordfinder.com/

8:18 am

Yes, but which bit of a2zwordfinder do you use?

8:18 am

I have already started using that today too... guess I am just missing it

8:18 am

the only ka5 i have is already plural .... :(

8:18 am

FMitch - did you know your P8/50 becomes a P9/66. Thanks :o)

8:19 am

partial word look up...i put in the first 2 or 3 letters

8:19 am

Me neither, Jen

8:21 am

Moozey - yup I did, good one isn't it

8:21 am

Sorry, forgot the American election (now how could I do that???)

8:21 am

rolin... I use that one and another one at http://www.oneacross.com/ is useful too... haven't used either yet today although I only just started... 1st 54 words in 20 mins... gonna be a long day!

8:21 am

agzam2 - add the letter s in the middle of your ka5 and you will get your ka6 and then make it singular and it will be your other ka5

8:21 am

Woo hoo! I was looking across instead of looking down!

8:22 am

Cheers Fmitch - result! :)

8:23 am

rolin, that's great..thanks!!

8:25 am

Still have 4 K's to go and a gazillion others, but I'm off to the gym. Good luck everyone!

8:30 am

hey Anj...noticed you talked to Kallia yest..whilst i was zzzzzzzzing...Mid Sept. did you eventually work out what she was trying to tell u without being too obvious..... about warmpost.com or co.uk

8:31 am

hi moozey.....hi to the rest of the world...HERE WE GO...

8:32 am

hi tbear get comfortable

8:33 am

This actually inda cool... most words are quadruple: the word, the plural, the ''doer'' of the root word, then plural ''doers.''

8:34 am

With that in mind, 400-some isn't that outrageous.

8:35 am

haven't checked yet....is it gunna be a bumpy ride...if so I'm glad I gave up flying...rather be a passenger. Will I need alcoholic refreshment to get me thru?

8:35 am

alcohol - deffo :)

8:43 am

Hey Bear, got there in the end lol :) It's the Babble that does it. I now have thousands of new words slumming it in my vocabulary and they are all fighting for attention. I would probably have an aneurysm, but that word is fighting with kumquat about yesterday's ungulates at the moment :( Help!

8:43 am

8:44 am

8:47 am

How about The Be-Babbled? Thanx for the hug Bear :) Hey, i've found au7/28, au8/40 and au9/72. Severe, stern or strict in disposition or discipline (and variants)

8:49 am

8:52 am

8:52 am

got a good p7/48.... common herb

8:53 am

worked for me tbear perhaps its your laptop or connection or something

8:53 am

beta does that with me too. I find sometimes, when it does its refresh, I lose the words I just put in, so I have to keep a close eye on my list all the time.

8:55 am

going back to the good ole original....however time consuming....otherwise I'll definately never finish a puzzle........!

9:08 am

I am having trouble with this site accepting words..there are 3 so far, ..one means to have sorrow for something done, and its plural..and two others..I know these are words..simple words..but it isnt taking them!!!!

9:09 am

hi Liana, let the page settle, then try again. It will take them eventually.

9:09 am

9:12 am

9:41 am

Anyone noticed that the clock in the beta version has gone a bi 'tilt' ?!

9:46 am

ANJ.......WHAT CLOCK???

9:49 am

If you actually hit refresh - the clock works again - weird

9:49 am

the clock was like that yesterday too

9:50 am

so it does thanks crb

9:50 am

tbear - the clock looks like a Pokemon ball beneath the grid - red and white and counts down to the end of the puzzle

9:50 am

Countdown timer...it was showing about 3 hours to go in Beta so I bolted to the old version

9:51 am

GOT THE CLOCK.......slow or what....by the way while ur there...mine is the obvious,plus...underscore cook @ warmpost.co.uk...i think u,me & Kallia have started the club...nxt step mid sept

9:57 am

Cheers Bear...just given it a roadtest :)

The clock keeps on saying NaN hours left before the puzzle closes. But it's been doing that for a few days now

Does anyone else find that the clock says "NaN hours left before the puzzle closes" after you've entered an invalid word?

2:27 pm

Uneaixoise could you give the 2nd letter for the bird clue? i can't see it

2:28 pm

pa

2:29 pm

need one more letter?

2:29 pm

Uneaixoise, do you have all of the P9's, i am missing one.

2:29 pm

2:30 pm

par!

2:30 pm

how did i know you were going to say that!

2:31 pm

2:31 pm

2:31 pm

Denny, thanks! Got em!

2:32 pm

got it Uneaixoise thanks!

2:33 pm

begrery, i only have two p9's--how many are there?

2:36 pm

i'm giving up at 277 words! i hope tomorrow's is a quicker one!!

2:37 pm

Uneaixoise/Denny, still looking for the par9, any other clues, besides the bird one?

2:39 pm

pa/9 clues?..bird isnt working :(

2:39 pm

nah birds not enough. I'm really dense. I think I've got the general idea but the wierd spelling combos I've trid have not been it.

2:40 pm

Uneaixoise: I've got 2 pa9/66's (but still not the bird one... I've tried every weird spelling I could think of!)

2:40 pm

there are three p9's, i found the third. they are all plural: pa9/90 pa9/66 x 2

2:40 pm

pa9/80 Bash together bits of the alternate spellings.

2:41 pm

it looks like an ESL spelling of a very common housepet bird, usually in the green/yellow family

2:42 pm

3 syllables. 1st syllable is a golfing term ie 2 under.... 2nd syllable is the sound you will make when you see it! 3rd syllable sounds like a famous poet who wrote an ode to a nightingale

2:43 pm

oops! 3rd syllable with the a!

2:44 pm

thanks guys. thanks denny. I really am thick sometimes. But the spelling out of it helps. :) good times, and with that I go back to work.

2:44 pm

denny -- excellent clues!

Is anyone else finding that the beta version of Babble is sooooo slow tonight? I've just gone back to the old version and it's much faster.

2:46 pm

any clues for the other p9/66? I've got the one to do with kids feet....

2:47 pm

that's what all the bird stuff has been about

2:48 pm

Thanks Babbler! Lady Smiler, I've been having the same problem. keeps freezing etc. well will grace is on in a bit so i am goning to make myself a nice vodka and tonic and put my feet up. retiring with 175!

2:50 pm

denny....lol...im still cant get it.. it means..i NEVER will..i golf! I know the 1st part..and the poet..but the middle has be baffled

2:50 pm

babbler, first 4 letters mean to separate (or something you can do to your hair), last five letters are if you make mistakes

2:50 pm

the bird stuff is p/90. I've got that, and a p/66 (kids' feet). There's another p9/66 somewhere...... dunno where tho!

Cheers Denny...enjoy...and don't forget the ice and a slice...lol

2:50 pm

Finally got that p9/90... What a funky spelling! The 2nd syllable was what threw me. And the fact that the 3rd syllable doesn't have a long "E" spelling. Babbler: The other p9/66 is the plural of an ornamental flower garden having the beds and paths arranged to form a pattern

2:51 pm

it is a french word having to do with paths in a flower garden.

2:52 pm

yayyyyyy!!! thx guys! : D

2:52 pm

i've got p9 x 3, r9 x 2, s9, and a9--what am i missing?

2:54 pm

Just curious if my 1:31pm post showed up. I listed 9 of the 10 9s and 17 of the 20 8s.

2:54 pm

the bird clue.... I have the bird but can't get the spelling... it's the middle bit!

2:55 pm

yes . . . sorry, Jamiekins

2:55 pm

Ginger...forget the way the word sounds. Pretend it sounds like set

2:55 pm

Same here GInger - I'm confounded by that one - just can't come up with it

2:57 pm

There is something deeply frustrating about having 130 words and knowing you're not even half way home

2:59 pm

has anyone finished today?

2:59 pm

got it.... thanks! CadFan... think 2 of a letter not one

3:00 pm

ok, jamiekins, now i've got all the 9's you listed--did you find out which one you/we are missing?

3:00 pm

dunno--i'm at 349

3:00 pm

There's something frustrating about knowing that there are more words that start with "R" than I usually find in an entire puzzle :)

3:01 pm

Uneaixoise - No trouble before, I just wasn't sure if there was something funky going on with the beta babble making my post only show up to me. :) I haven't found any more 8s or 9s yet, but I do know that the missing ones start with A, P, R, S, or T. I've finished the other letters.

3:01 pm

I'm right behind Uneaixoise at 342/6006

3:02 pm

Holey moley - finally got it - I was hung up on the wrong 5th letter.

3:02 pm

356 but less points 5931

3:03 pm

any clues for the 2nd r9/66 pls? I've got the one 'again and again and again'.....

3:03 pm

Kallia! You kept that quiet :)

3:04 pm

r9/66 witty conversations

3:04 pm

CadFan and Ginger, make sure you use that p8 to get the P9

3:05 pm

thx Kalia!! good clue.

3:05 pm

hi Anji well never one to blow my own trumpet,,,had a good run earlier, but think I've got to the end. Did you take up tbear's invite?

3:05 pm

DOH!!! or in my case the 9 to get the 8......

3:07 pm

a hint on the e8?

3:07 pm

Thanks for that Chip!

3:08 pm

e8 is an enzyme

GingerUK what's the second letter of the p9/90 please

3:08 pm

Might have a jar tomorrow. Have you got that p9 bird thing? It's driving me crazy :(

3:09 pm

Lady: Second letter of p9 is a

3:10 pm

ANG Long john silver's bird minus the t poet - a :)

3:10 pm

Anj, you build the p9 off of a p4/7 and a p8

3:10 pm

What's the 2nd letter of the s9?

3:11 pm

should have been ang... and plus the poet lol

3:11 pm

i thought it was an enzyme but the puzzle won't accept it . . . i checked the spelling and i've got that right--is it a weird alternate spelling?

thanks chip

3:12 pm

add one letter to the au7/28

3:15 pm

Ouch, just finished the A's. Brain hurts. aa 4/4 ae 4/4 ae 4/7 ae 6/18 ae 7/28 ak 4/8 ak 5/18 al 4/4 x2 ap 4/6 ap 5/14 ar 4/4 x4 ar 4/7 ar 5/10 x2 ar 5/16 x3 ar 6/18 x2 ar 6/27 ar 7/28 x2 ar 8/40 as 4/4 as 6/18 as 8/40 as 5/10 x2 as 6/18 at 4/4 at 4/6 au 7/28 au 8/40 au 9/72 ay 4/7

3:16 pm

Uneaixoise - I don't think it's a weird spelling. But think of the waist of your favorite sweatpants for a pointer in the right direction. skrag - that should help a lot!

3:17 pm

There's a p4/7? ...bleat :(

3:19 pm

Anj, for the p4/7 thing of what Tiger Woods almost always shoots below.

3:20 pm

I'm sorry...it's a p4/6 my fault

3:21 pm

Chip, u sure that's not a pa4/6??

3:21 pm

thats actually a p4/6 and plural is 5/14 couldnt you work out my clue Ang?

3:22 pm

yeah sorry about that, I was reading the 7 for the 70 I have under that word...it's a p4/6 from it you can get the p8 and p9

3:22 pm

OK, got it...thanx to you & Kallia :) I'm having a 'mare tho' :( Too many words, not enough time hahaha

6:03 pm

I've been trying parakeet, peregrine and anysort of pea-bird too. AARGH! Can't get that bird clue.

6:04 pm

6:04 pm

Lian, there is no para combo on the board... :)

6:05 pm

finally got to me!!! PLUS poet

6:06 pm

6:07 pm

jacula, i have k4 x 4, k5 x 4, k6 x 3--what am i missing? thanks

6:10 pm

Thanks mtnjock - got both the bird words now. I'll do that 'k' list for Uneaixoise now.

6:13 pm

I am about to head out, does any one need help with the a9 word before I go?

6:16 pm

Full 'k' list: ka 4/8 ka 5/18 ka 6/30 ka 4/8 ka 5/18 ka 4/8 ka 5/18 ka 4/8 ke 4/8 ke 5/18 ke 5/24 ke 6/39 ko 4/8 kr 6/30

6:25 pm

Still here Kallia...sobbing gently into my keyboard lol.

6:26 pm

its a pig , I am going to have to give up when I've found the next few....lol 378 now

6:33 pm

Bloomin' heck, Kallia! 378? You're doing well. Anyone want to take a bet on how many will finish today's Babblegrid?

6:34 pm

Don't cry, Anj. It's 'only' a game. (Sound of gnashing teeth in the background.)

6:36 pm

It won't accept 'presley'! LOL. Wonder what 'the king' would have to say about that? My other half's surname is in here too and his initials. He was a little peeved not to be 'valid'. LOL.

6:37 pm

Oh, and if you can 'kart', why can't you be a 'karter'?

6:38 pm

Or even several 'kart' persons.

6:38 pm

what's this about an A9 hint?

6:40 pm

a9/72: an adverb that means in a simple or uncluttered fashion

6:40 pm

can I get some help with the p9/66x2, I keep going for pre for some reason on the little children clue.

6:45 pm

There are too many As. Could you please give me the 2nd letter of the A9 so I have a chance of finding it? Thanks.

6:45 pm

an earlier clue was the ------ of little feet

6:46 pm

mtnjock - add an 's' to your pa8/50.

6:46 pm

au

6:46 pm

Minski - au9/72

6:47 pm

LOL... that would be good if I had a pa8/50...

6:47 pm

Jacula, it's just being stubborn :) MTNJock...think babies...P...... of tiny feet (rather than the weapons grade bawl)

6:47 pm

Got the PA 6, 8, &9. Thanks.

6:47 pm

Hallelujah! Twist and Shout! I finally got the bird one.

6:49 pm

I've got a bit of a mystery here. I've gone through that 'p' list very carefully, twice, now. I only have 11 p's left to get but I find there are 12 words left on the posted list and that I have 2 more pa4/6's than on the posted list???

6:50 pm

Jacula, thanks for the clues, you too Miniski, there hasn't been a complete P list posted yet

6:50 pm

Anj - on 'being stubborn'. Are you Taurean by any chance?

6:51 pm

got the AU 7&9. thanks.

6:51 pm

now what about the other p9/66? Any help, I have to fnish at least one size of letter category when they are this big!

6:52 pm

Hahaha, absolutely! The horns are a dead giveaway mind you ...

6:52 pm

I'm missing almost all of the KAs. Time to buckle down and get to work.

6:54 pm

so you have pa4 x 8??

6:55 pm

Minski, think dojo, karate, practice..

6:56 pm

I'm Taurean, too. I just knew YOU wre! LOL Anj.

6:56 pm

nope, no pa4x8 either

6:57 pm

Mtnjock, the other pa9/66 is a pattern of garden best appreciated from above. I'm sure the Fairy Googlemother will come up roses on that one ;)

6:58 pm

Ah! Went from skrags's list, not from pfdeele's.:(

6:58 pm

Uneaixoise, with the point spread, pa4x6 and pa4x7 are the highest you can get...

6:58 pm

Who's the Fairy Googlemother?

7:00 pm

right . . . i thought someone was saying there were more . . . aarrgghh!

7:01 pm

That's us...passionate about everything. Food, love, art...bleedin' word puzzles lol

7:05 pm

Yeah!!!! I can go home now... Thanks for your help (and the GoogleFairey as well). g'nite

7:07 pm

Goodnight mtnjock. 'See' you tomorrow.

7:07 pm

Yes indeed, Anj. What star sign is your partner, if you have one?

7:12 pm

I'm solo at the mo...downside of the sign. Too fussy sometimes :/

7:12 pm

Please - need clues for pa 7/36 pr 6/24 pr 5/14 Helllllllllllllllllllllllllp.

7:14 pm

Think of your backside, bfdeele

7:14 pm

Yup, I know Anj. Spent many years with a ram but am now very happy with a goat. Did try a centaur once, but that was too fiery.

7:15 pm

Think of your backside, bfdeele FOR PR 5/14 ... sorry!

7:16 pm

Hello. Does anyone have the breakdown by the first two letters? Brandyjack? Thanks. Only halfway there and having to stop soon. bleah

7:21 pm

bfdeele - pa7/36 - one who irons might be said to be a pr*****. pr6/24 - someone who talks idly or to little purpose. pr6/24 - more than one person who does the above. pr5/14 - to talk idley or to no purpose.

7:21 pm

thats it for me giving up at 397 see you later today lol

7:22 pm

7:22 pm

I have pr 6/24, but have no idea what it means, but here's a clue. If hotels had special prices determined by the first letter of your last name, this would be the one for Harry Potter.

7:23 pm

bfdeele, I need the other two you want clues for, too.

7:24 pm

Cancer & two Scorpios...I sure do pick'em! lol

7:26 pm

Anj - Yea, my crab chap was lovely, childhood swwetheart and all that. The Scorpio I next got grabed by was far too possessive.

7:27 pm

I'm so tired I can't even spell or type now! I really should go but I've only got 299 words and I swore to myself I wouldn't leave before 300. LOL.

7:33 pm

munner - that word means 'prepared for auction or a loan of money'. It's an obsolete word. Can't say I've ever been so glad of learning Latin (apart from understanding gardening and medical terms) as I am now for these ruddy puzzle grids!

7:36 pm

Thanks, Jacula. Playing Babble is a humbling experience for this former English teacher :(

7:38 pm

I've used pr 4/6 to describe a bodypart ... but, then I'm a former fitness trainer ;-)

7:38 pm

Munner - it's a humbling experience for one who was 'destined' to become an English teacher (but didn't as she had other fish to fry) and who has been a writer since childhood.

7:42 pm

Munner - if you're still there (here?). I think the great thing about the English language is what a 'mongrel' it is; how it grows and changes. It's very easy to be pedantic about spellings and punctuation, but what a great language it is in that it embraces words from so many languages, and continues to do so.

7:44 pm

I've got my 300 words I promised myself now (5230 points) and so I'm off to check out my forums. I'll be back in here for a quick look before zzzzzing.

7:47 pm

Absolutely! I taught ESOL the last 7 years of my career. I always told my students that English was such a crazy language because so many rules don't fit.

8:05 pm

An English Test We’ll begin with box, the plural is boxes, But the plural of ox should be oxen not oxes. One fowl is a goose, but two are called geese, Yet the plural of mouse is never meese. You may find a lone mouse, or a whole nest of mice, But the plural of house is houses, not hice. If the plural of man is always men, Why shouldn’t the plural of pan be pen? The cow in the plural may be called cows or kine, But a bow if repeated is never called bine; And the plural of vow is vows, not vine. If I speak of a foot and you show me two feet, And I give you a boot would a pair be called beet? If one is a tooth and a whole set are teth, Why shouldn’t the plural of booth be beeth? If the singular’s this and the plural these, Should the plural of kiss ever be written keese? We speak of a brother, and also of brethren, But though we say mother, we never say methren. The masculine pronouns are he, his and him, But imagine the feminine she, shis and shim! So the English, I think you will all agree, Is the funniest language you ever did see.

8:07 pm

Excuse the 'blips' Munner, I got the poem off the net to save typing it out.:-(

8:27 pm

still haven't got the bird clue for p9 what was long john silver's bird called?

8:28 pm

i think the person who gave the long john silver clue was referring to the type of bird, not the name :)

8:32 pm

Captain Flint...think 'squawk!' but you want to downsize yer bird. The spelling is different...one more consonant, and one less vowel than you would expect...

8:38 pm

thanks guys they shot my score up 409 for 7274 don't know if I do any more too tired

8:40 pm

Oh blimey Anj, you still in here? Where in the world are you? (Geographically, I mean.) As for the clue, ferrari (not long to that wedding now!) - think parakeet but double your 'r's', put an 'o' where you think an 'a' should be and take out an 'e'.

8:41 pm

409 words, Ferrari? I wouldn't have given you the clue if I'd known you were so far ahead! Bloomin' 'eck! xx

8:45 pm

sorry jacula

8:45 pm

Basket case in Bristol :'( I was hoping Brandyjack might post a breakdown to put me out of my misery but that's probabblebly expecting too much given the volume of words involved. What a challenge though :)

8:50 pm

I haven't been playing that long.......is 2431 points any good?

8:54 pm

how did you remember the wedding? youv'e reminded me I really must go to bed it's 3am xx

8:54 pm

Normally that's a good score, but on today's grid it's just under 33%. This is the biggest word count i've seen

8:57 pm

ferrari - I know who I've spoken to! LOL. Your daughter's wedding is very soon. You said you'd send me pics but we didn't work out how to exchange e-mail addresses privately. Anj - Bristol? Just down the road from me here in Worcestershire, 10 miles from Brum.

8:59 pm

brum? sollihull?

9:01 pm

...feels like Purgatory at the moment... And it's raining now lol

9:12 pm

I have 310 words. Why am I not happy? sigh

9:13 pm

Hello everybody - I've been babbling away here quietly for the last 4 hours! Have got to 342 words so far and starting to seriously flag!

9:15 pm

is anyone else listening to NWA whilst doing this?

9:15 pm

Whewee, morning all! 3.14am in London. I got home from work about 45 minutes ago (don't ask - it's not as interesting as you might imagine!) and thought I'd check in. Painful today huh? I started this yesterday before I went to work, and only have 206....

9:17 pm

does any one have a clue for the er4/4 that's not a mistake

9:19 pm

NWA? as in Straight outta Compton? Just iTunes burbling away in the background here. Queenadreena at the mo...

9:20 pm

Ellocin, it means formerly, as in e...while :)

9:21 pm

Anj - have you finished yet?

9:21 pm

thank you Anj, I just got it

9:21 pm

Ellocin. E4/4 at a previous time. It's practically in all the grids.

9:23 pm

No Chris, i'm all worded out at 427. I feel i've tried everything but obvioulsy not lol.

9:24 pm

427!! I think I'd be happy with that - almost! I've managed to scrape together a measly 345.

9:27 pm

That's certainly not measly. Anything 300+ on this grid is resoectable. I'm just finding i've run out of combos...or at least my brain has hahaha.

9:28 pm

I wish I still had a brain - it went to sleep about 2 hours ago!

9:33 pm

Anj, don't know how you do it, I've been at this practically all day and I'm at 286 words. It does help to walk away for a bit, come back, and find some more.

9:36 pm

Did that a couple of times Mary. I've had spare time on my hands today so I could indulge this. There's just too many R, S & Ts for me tho'. Hahaha, and i've got an owl outside now...

9:38 pm

my list is too long to follow so I keep repeating words. ugh!

9:38 pm

'Cos I'm the type 'o nigga that's built ta last, fuck with me, I'll put ma foot in yo ass...

9:48 pm

Well, my cerebral cortex has just downed tools and demanded ibuprofen! 'Nite/Morning all. Have fun :)

9:49 pm

Night Anj

9:49 pm

I am only missing 1 A word. It's an AR 5/10. I have the one that's the plural of a British slang word. What's the other one?

9:50 pm

First time to break 2000! BeddyBye! Good luck to all night owls!

9:51 pm

bunlao - no, not Solihull.

No challenge at all Anj, just plain forgot to do it when I got home from work. 9:58 pm

9:58 pm

Minski, the A5/10 = a wall hanging of heavy handwoven fabric with pictorial designs. I'm signing off now with 302 words. LOL to all

9:59 pm

Straight outta compton, crazymothafucka name Ice Cube....

9:59 pm

Thanx, Brandyjack, a little too late, I'm going to bed. But wish I could spend more time, it's a huge help

10:00 pm

Brandyjack - I bow in humble thanks....

10:01 pm

Does anyone else's clock say "NaN hours left before the puzzle closes"?

10:04 pm

Sorry CSA, will try not to forget tomorrow. nasty headache today, might have to wait for morning before I can even post the regular stats.

10:22 pm

That's it. I admit defeat at 359 / 5792. I am too tired to go on. Hopefully do better tomorrow?! Goodnight to all who are still battling on & good luck.

10:24 pm

Okay, I'm missing an re7. I've got re7/28x5, re7/32x2, re7/36x2, and re7/44. What am I missing?

10:30 pm

re7/36 x 3

10:32 pm

any hints on the tr 8 please (tr 7 too if they go together)

10:33 pm

yes, they go together--think about what kids say at the door on halloween

10:36 pm

Do all three r6/36's start with the same three letters?

10:36 pm

I have that one in 5 and 6, let me see how you get 7 and 8. hmm

10:37 pm

yep

10:37 pm

ahh was going the other direction with the t's. THANKS

10:38 pm

Don't apologize, Brandyjack. I understand headaches all too well!

10:43 pm

Sorry to be a bother, but can I get another hint on the r7/36? I have: do over, and tamp down.

10:48 pm

do you have a device for catching vermine?

10:50 pm

not you personally--it's a clue! :-)

10:51 pm

smithchick.. doing in over

10:56 pm

Just not getting it... Too dense, tonight.

10:58 pm

smithchick.. if i ask you to say something again..i ask you to re**** it....and there is the plural as well

10:58 pm

a device for catching unwanted mice-like creatures

11:02 pm

Thanks, uneaixoise, but I've got the ra7, I think I'm missing an re7/36. I've also already got the one you're talking about, green eyes. Yikes!

11:02 pm

it's a compound word

11:03 pm

Brandyjack - just been off into my forums and come back here before signing off for the night/morning. It's a late one even for me. I saw you talking about a program that solves the puzzle? I can understand the stats thing, which we all appreciate to see what we are working towards. But, if it gives you all the answers, how could you possibly enjoy being on site? I do wish I could talk to you off site, but still have no way of knowing on here how to give e-mail addys privately. I mean you can't even post it and then delete!

11:03 pm

smithchick... how about this.. ..........do to something over and over again.... .........you re**** it....that help?

11:04 pm

oh, sorry!

11:07 pm

i use someone elses program to solve the puzzle. It produces a list of words in lines of 10 on the screen. I cut and past this into notepad, save it to disk then sic my program(s) on it. They produce the lists. Believe it or not, I only see 1 or two words on the list. You wouldn't believe how bad my memory is. Tell me 1 thing, i can remember it. Tell me two, i might remember one. Tell me three, I won't even remember my name....

11:09 pm

don't kill me but i don't know what i was thinking--i don't have a third r7/36--going blind with the huge puzzle i guess--so sorry

11:09 pm

Jacula, now seems a good time for me to bring this up. There is so much chitchat on this log it makes it nearly impossible to find clues and hints etc. Is ANYone else up for creating a forum (a free one of course) where all the nattering can take place?

11:11 pm

smithchick.. get it?..g

11:11 pm

not a bad idea

11:12 pm

Uneaixoise - it's repeaters!

11:12 pm

As for wordfinders, I use them. Then I google the results to find out what the silly thing is. I am not in any contest to finish the puzzles. That's not the point. I mean, a greek girdle from Roman times? Give me a break. I am not going to know that ( I do know though). The whole point is the words. Finding them, by whatever means (except direct lookup of course). It's the pursuit that counts. Do you have any idea how many 8 letter words start with 'aa'? There are 99. How many 10 letters? 123.... Try picking out the one that fits........

11:15 pm

already have that--

11:15 pm

Darleen - it should be possible to chat elsewhere, I know, but I don't think the chit-chat in here produces too many problems (though having said that, I am on an ultra fast b/b connection). Anything lesser could be very slow and clunky.

11:17 pm

DarleenMB. Good idea. With 1600 players, I'm surprised at the lack of chatter. Most of what is there is in fact from about 40 of us only. One advantage to this one though, it gets segregated and cleaned daily....

11:17 pm

I have come to the conclusion that BrandyJack, Ang & myself are all from the same mould. Stubborn beggars all!

11:18 pm

Donkey Hote is my hero..............

11:19 pm

quitting at 390/6767--those of you plodding on have my greatest admiration!

11:20 pm

433 words 5.36 7724 And I can't see anymore!

11:23 pm

Yep, Hugabugs this one was a doozy!

11:24 pm

My 2 cents is that I don't mind the chat at all, but that "hints" that all but spell out the word are a drag. If I ask for a hint, I don't mind getting a veiled clue, pun, or something that makes me think, but some of the hints lately have basically told you all but, say, the third letter, what it rhymes, with, what it means, etc. I prefer foraging to being spoon-fed. But then again, there are now a great number of people playing this game, and there are a great many different goals and ways of getting there. All-in-all, I guess I'd prefer to keep the chat on-site. I don't want to have to toggle between different sites just to play the puzzle.

11:25 pm

Talking of chit-chat. How do you do yours? I click onto the site. I see the day's grid and pen it off onto a handy gride my other half made for me on paper. Then I sign in and look for BrandyJack's daily stats of word count and how many words for each letter.I then go away with a cup of tea and some biscuits to see what words I can find. Ater I've run out of ideas, I consult the dictionaries and thesauri on my bookshelves. Also, since the written babblegrid is on the table, it tends to attract people like a jigsaw in the making and so they all chip in. After that, I look for clues in the daily log, and also have fun reading it, and replying. In the course of that, I either romp home or not! The chat's as good to me as is getting the home total.

11:29 pm

Hugabugs, you star! Can you point me in the direction of a couple of STs? I've got: st5/18 x 5 st5/27 x 2 St5/30 x 3 and st6/28 x 2 st6/44 x 2 ...missing one of each - any clues?

11:29 pm

Doogle - I'm sorry if you hvae found some of my clues too easy. Amd, yes, I did just give a word away just before we posted to each other! But does it really matteron a puzzle this size or really at all in the whole scheme of life?

11:31 pm

Anj - are you still climbing for that 433?

11:33 pm

a agree, clues that are too easy are annoying. it's bad enough having the two letter list to work with. It's amazing how eay it is to find the huge words if you know the first two letters. It's also amazing how difficult it can be to find a 4 letter word when you know the first two. Like the Ae4/4 in tonights puzzle. I never saw it, just typed it.Then I had to find it. Even knowing it's there it's almost impossible to see.

11:34 pm

Final points count for whomever it was who was asking earlier... 433 words 5.36 7724 (and it was hugabugs who gave it.)

11:34 pm

Yes, still trying :) Obstinate...another of our traits hahaha

11:36 pm

115 words done, 25 minutes to go. Maybe I can at least finish the A's.

11:37 pm

Anj, I'm confused at what you're asking for

11:37 pm

So, BrandyJack - you obviously feel I should not have done that 2-letter list on the Wednesday puzzle of 41 words? Even though it gave so many a lift to finish a grid for once?

11:40 pm

I'm just missing 1 x st5 and 1 x st6 but I can't see them for looking. The list is what I have. I was hoping you could tell me what's missing - like a st5/18 or something similar.

11:40 pm

I have st5/10x6 st5/14x2 st5/18x3

11:42 pm

Anj - my other main controlling sign is a water sign - the water carrier. It means I can walk away without competing. But I wish you all the best in your quest to get all of the words.xx

11:42 pm

I have st6/18x6 st6/27x2 st6/30x3

11:43 pm

Sorry - see what you mean now. It's late and my mind is stuffed :( Should have read: st6/18 x 5 st6/27 x 2 St6/30 x 3 and st7/28 x 2 st7/44 x 2

11:43 pm

17 minutes to go!

11:44 pm

16 mins...

11:45 pm

15 mins (blimey this clock goees fast!)

11:45 pm

14 mins.

11:45 pm

you need another st7/28

11:46 pm

Is this clock correct??

11:47 pm

13 mins. Who's going to be the winner?

11:47 pm

12 mins..

11:47 pm

The suspense is killing me!

11:48 pm

11 mins.

11:48 pm

Never said that. Or implied it. I posted mine some time after you posted yours. I was just late doing it is all. I ad solved all 41 quite sometime earlier and I sort of make it a policy not to post the breakdown before 18:00. Some get upset by it's presence. Some get downright ugly about it. So I compromise. What Doogle was talking about and that I agree with are the clues like mov4/6. Only need the last letter on that one. Wih the first two letters, can still be difficult to find them Especially since many of the smaller ones are foreign langages. Like the aa4/4 'aals' in tonight puzzle. I cannot even find a definition for it. The 9 letter types follow rules and tend to be 100% english words.

11:49 pm

Are you still there BrandyJack?

11:50 pm

10 mins.

11:50 pm

yep. just finished the A's. working the E's now......

11:51 pm

9 mins. BrandyJack send me your e-mail addy., please.

11:52 pm

8 mins.

11:52 pm

11:53 pm

11:58 pm

No use - can't see them anywhere :'( Thanks for the help Hugabugs.

11:58 pm

1 min. Yes, BJ, you are. I can't get it from that.

11:59 pm

sorry Anj.... there's so many words to look at/for

12:00 am

um, replace the 'at' with @ and no spaces..... i prefer to avoid address harvester bots.

12:00 am

No worries :)

12:01 am

o mins. Next puzzle. AAArgh! Hoipe it won't be such a pig as the last one.

12:17 am
