Hi and hugs Rose - hope all's well with you
hi flosey
Hi Flosey
good for you ru, three cheers for you too!
all's well liz. how are you both?
never saw that word before
Good - but so hot and humid here.
please pray that the rain holds off. don has started cleaning out the garage today. there is stuff all over the back deck.
Fingers crossed for you - we've got heavy rain forecast here.
<--praying for world peace first GR
how were the visitors? did you have lots of good times?
It was good - quiet and relaxing - what they wanted. Their flight home was cancelled on Saturday though, so they didn't leave til yesterday.
keep praying ruru, cos wwiii is about to erupt here if all his things aren't undercover before the rain.
bad in one way, but good in another...
it was no problem for us - they're good company.
i have the funniest story to tell. the other night a wood-beetle found it's way into our sitting ar4 and climbed up onto the little table where i have my laptop. i screamed, and pushed the table away from me. when i looked over at don, he was sitting, pedalling his feet in the air....saying what, what?
so much for protecting me....i still get the giggles when i remember it.
lol - must've been a sight!
Gooooooooood morning fellow Babblers xx
good grief!! it's a worzel. {{hugs}} son
Good morning Mum (((hugs))) how are you? xx
doing okay dear. how are you and dianne
We are both fine. She usually sleeps in until around 10am but we are off out for the day so I've gotten her up early - she isn't happy lmao!!!!
are you going to be here a while? dad's getting dinner ready.
on and off for about 45 minutes or so xx
where are you going?
We're going to a town called Southport about 15 miles from us. We haven't done much interesting lately and what with one thing and another felt we needed a little day out - retail therapy lol. I need a new DVD player and Di probably "needs" clothes lol
nice...i hope the weather is kind to you.
phantom twit - that'll be me lol
nice weather lol it's been below freezing here for about a month now but we'll wrap up warm. What's Dad cooking? xx
not sure.....i think curried snags and vegs....yup....he's nodding.
what are snags?
i see your point about the weather....but it's either that or go stir-crazy, right?
sausages
OMG I just had a flashback to the mid 80s then! When you said sausages I remember watching Neighbours in the mid 80s and they talked about snags and as soon as I saw sausages I remembered lol. Haven't watched Neighbours for about 25 years!!
would you prefer bangers then?....lol
haha - over here bangers is another word for a woman's cushions!!
if you know what i mean . . .
roflol
dinner ready. will be back in about 15 minutes. xoxox
ok xx enjoy
wipe your mouth and get back here, rose :)
good morning all!
and back
{{hugs}} sprite..
hehehe good gal! *hugs*
how was your night, dear?
pretty good, and yours? And how was your day? No time for email, I take it :)
just took it very quietly. still paying for last friday/saturday combo. i did sleep better though.
Back again! Howdy Sprite xx
hey worzel
ah, progress was made, rose :) Glad you slept better. That is where the healing starts. And yeah, it takes a couple of days to bounce back from overtaxing and overstressing like that. Alas.
how've you been, worzel?
Not too bad thanx and yourself?
spent a couple of weeks with flu, first my hubby's, then my own. Otherwise, all good here.
aww glad you're better
yeah me too, lol. Just tired. But that is normal after a bad flu.
sprite, sorry to interrupt. did you see my post at 12:38?
*giggles* No I had not, but have now. Your knight in shining armour, huh...
sprite, it was so funny. i don't know if you have wood-beetles over there. just think of a cockroach on steroids. this bug was a big as my thumb.
oh jeezzz for real... un7/52? Is that the same thing as blacken??
*giggle* wait until you find the at7....i nearly fainted.
we do have wood beetles. They are big, indeed, and they make so much noise too.
not as much as me screaming...lol
hehehehe. Am checking images now... wondering if it is the beetle we call 'flying deer' here. Or the normal 'houtkever'
ok, my biology knowledge is not enough to know for sure. But yeah, BIG beetles. Not really scary but if you don't see them coming, they make you jump :)
sorry, googling frantically....cannot find a pic of this particular beetle. don calls them wood beetles...
rose, this is the 'flying deer' : http://tinyurl.com/mq9m28d
flat footed wood runner...don just found it
i looked at your link...that is what we call a stag horn beetle
found at7... a state of freedom from emotional disturbance and anxiety; tranquillity... I knew that word.
ok checking
how could you know that would....seeing as we both spend a major part of our nights/days in an opposite state...lol
lol yes... something to wish for, grin
nope, totally different species, but about as big and noisy. I don't blame you for jumping a mile high. Nor Don for being scared of your reaction ;)
aha....they ARE a part of the cockroach family.....yuck, yuck, yuck
in New Zealand they call it the Gisborne cockroach.
okay....have definitely decided....no more bug pictures
hahahahaha especially not just before bed. You'll dream of a 2-hands long cockroach tickling you with its feelers...
omdg no... construction work going on in the house next to ours... we share a wall with them. Such noise.
DON'T!!!!! my brain just went into overdrive...
*giggles* sowwy. Couldn't resist.
poor sprite....is there somewhere you can go? like a library?
yeah but not for a whole day. Can't sit that long. Ugh. And it looks like they will work on more houses in our block too. They are getting new windows and ummm whaddayacallums... the things into which the windows fit.
window frames?
rrrrright! Window frames. There is a whole bunch of them sitting on our parking ar4. More than would fit in one house.
ah well. What cannot be helped, should be complained about, right?
lolol....ummmm....
I thing twyx should be a word. Just because.
like....betwyx them both they licked the platter clean....
lolllll nice one.
don's bro gave us a large boxful of low-sugar sweets for christmas. we are sampling some tonight. don is checking each packet to see how much we can eat....
oh rose, I didn't tell you yet... we found a very very cheap dish washer in the thriftshop where we got the microwave. We decided to take it home and give it a good place to live. Our kids are over the moon.
aw good man Don!
yay, sprite....what tremendous news. now the kids have something new to fight about...like whose turn it is to load the wretched thing, and whose turn it is to empty it...
how do i know this? i watched my god-daughters squabbling like anything over their dishwasher...
oh no, no fighting. We have a schedule here. They used to do the dishes by hand, on alternating days. And I did it on the Mondays.
now, they load it on alternating days, and I empty it daily.
wise woman.
I try to be, lol. Managing our household to the best of my abilities.
new word for the dictionary, if you like it: ewwy - rather yucky
i once suggested to my friend she should get the girls to hand-wash a few sinkful of dirty dishes and let them find out how lucky they were to have a dishwasher.
like it...put her in....
our dishwasher died about a year and a half ago. I think our kids know exactly how blessed they are :D
in it goes :D
i have to admit, i have NEVER had a dishwasher. but there is going to be room for one in the new kitchen
I have to say, I enjoy having one again. In stead of having dishes stacking up during the day, I have this nice looking empty sink and kitchen. Also, I very much enjoy how the kids love it.
as you do, sprite.
:D
how is your pain today?
lol the very first thing Tim said when we brought the thing home: "Yayyyyy and I am gonna be good with it... I will rinse everything becore putting it in... I will treasure it!"
bearable, darling. Breathing into it, trying not to tense up, will be ok.
i'm surprised he didn't get down and kiss it...lol
he almost did, lol.
like i said to a friend at church...there are two people who dirty dishes, dirty clothes, dirty the bathroom, dirty the floor....but only one who remembers to get off their arse and do something about it all.
and he has the gall to glibly tell all and sundry he looked after his kids for 10 years, his mother for 10 years, and now he is taking care of me. sometimes i could really hit him hard.
ain't that the truth! And it is 3 for 1 here. I mean, really! They drop their stuff and let it lie there, and when I complain about having to pick up after them they are all innocent and claim they never TOLD me I had to pick it up...
well in his way, he is taking care of you. But you have to mastermind the whole thing or nothing gets done.
do like i did to mine many years ago...i wrote them a note which said...everything i have picked up of yours is under your pillow.
and my love actually complains about having no free space on the table and hating the clutter. And when we make stacks of the stuff, guess who has the biggest stack by far?
oh I am worse. I put it in a garbage bag and tell them they have 1 week to empty it, or it goes out.
not only mastermind, sprite. i have to do a lot of the everyday chores myself. he simply does not see the need for cleaning up each day.
it is passive manipulation in all it's glory.
you should set him tasks, I think. Not ask him, but simply dividing the chores and telling him what you need him to do.
lol....i wish you could see his face when i do that....and then the guilt is loaded straight back on my shoulders as he claims he wants to get something else done, like mow the lawn.
hehehe simply tell him: "You will have to do that after this."
ahhhh and I see you use the word guilt! That means that in your heart you still feel like you should do all the chores, as the woman of the house!
are you two still here?
no, I am hiding behind my keyboard
Since my tegeraria gigantea (and I'm emphasizing GIGANTEA) appeared I my sink amidst the soaking pots, |I now clean the whole kitchen before going upstairs.
And a pre-wash all that goes into the dishwasher as scraping off dried-on crud does not appeal.....
omg that is bigger than my hand!
I am not afraid of spiders, but this one was trying to get me and I was afraid to do anything but spray it with the sink hose. The whole kitchen (and I) was wet but at least I got him down the drain.
ugh and they have a nasty bite too. Am not usually scared of spiders either, but this one, I would want out of my house stat.
I felt guilty (the Buddhist in me? lol), butgroundhimup I the ggrinding thingie
hey ya ruby...
(my hands are too cold to type properly)
You have sasll hands, sprite!
small*
don't really blame you. Especially if he was trying to bite you. I think I would have given him the same ultimatum I give flies: "Either you leave my house NOW or you'll become a very very flat fly. Or wasp. Or spider!"
aw poor ruby. Is the weather so nasty there too? It is so cold and wet here. Rain and mist and hail, and just around the freezing point.
As the Scottish would say, it's murring. Nasty and cold but very little snow so far this year
no snow here so far, thank God.
The spider (I think it was a female, was trying to climb out of the sink and there were still pots in it. I certainly learned my lesson
what happened with our rose? Squirrel?
ROSIE!!!!
nope, still here, watching with interest, and nothing to contribute.
yes you have. Come on, girl, you live in Australia! You have more scary poisonous animals than all of Europe together.
You probably have much worse spiders in Australia, but probably not in the house.
like the beetles, spiders do not increase my calm.
funnel spiders, etc
not in my house....lol
hm ok. Calm is good. Calm is nice before bed. Let's talk about little lambs. You know, with those insanely wiggling tails whenever they nurse. Like they have to keep the engine going that way.
col.....love it.
i have had huntsmen spiders run up my arm, run across the interior roof of my car, across the dashboard of my car, make venetian blinds in my baby's nursery rattle..nope don't like spiders at all.
looking up huntsmen spiders
I am googling them
Usually, the outdoor spiders are lovely, like the Argiope (named Caliope) to whom \I used to give flies
O.M.G. I am so not coming to Aussie ever.
don hates the golden orb spiders. their webs are quite strong and sticky.
not afraid of dutch spiders at all. But this size, and then hunting... actively running towards you? Noooo that is scary.
roflol, sprite.
The huntsmen is similar to "my" spider, but much bigger
It's the "running toward" that gets to me. I don't mind spiders when they are quiet and in their webs.
the one which crawled over the 'ceiling' of my car was while i was driving in peak hour traffic. i stopped the car and got out of it. and left the car right where it was...in the middle of a solid stream of traffic.
And we have beautiful tiny wh*** ones in the garden from time to time. Lovely little things
I would have done the same thing, Rose
So would I.
and where there is one, there is always another. they mate for life....like birds. if you kill one, you have to spray everywhere for the other.
I thought they ate their mates....
some spiders do, but not all
seems like a good idea to me
i remember just after MIL moved in, we had a terrible time with the spiders. when don rang one day, to see if we were both okay. i told him we are okay, but our 8 legged boarder was not to good. he drowned.....in a tinful of mortein..
what is mortein?
lol ruby! Quite the meal, honey
When we were kids, my sister usd to spray they with hair spray and then yell "Daddy"
an insect spray....one version is for only crawling things...like spiders
ah ok. Thanks rose.
hair-spray is good...but neither the MIL or i used it.
have to go now. It was lovely to "see" you two. XX
It only slows them down, doesn't kill them
bye ruby, have a lovely day
enjoy your day, ruby. xoxox
*woof*
meds time...sprite will you be here when i get back?
no sweetie, I don't think so. I have 3 left.
okay, darlng. i do so hope your day treats you well. xoxox
sleep well, dear friend. *hugs*
fireflies. May you all have a blessed day and a peaceful night.
Good morning.

congrats aloy!
whooo hoooo aloy!
good morning dear friends
hello trif
I love when babble is funky - like today we can enter both ways to spell the lighter shade of black....
I am SUCH a word nerd
:)
also ty, i hadn't seen either one of those yet
gross phantom:earwax
ewwww
Lighter Shade Of Black...is that a new Procol Harum album?
hey, at least it wasn't a fifty shades clue
good morning all. help with the R above the O pls
and the U too pls
hi peri
ra4/4 not common
peri,. the r above the o is a re5
the R is to apply ear substance again
Hello kids.
wait, which O? middle or left edge?
I dont have the u, or the i in the right column....
hi scrabs
ty pip and Trif
both R's are above O's
hello scrabbler!
oh, good point phae!
it7 for right i
hi Scrabbs
it7/28...right side i
MY sister from New Jeresy arrived Fri for our snowshoeing vacation here. MY body hurts all over.
thank phae, monkeying....
yawn
oh dear scrab! but I am sure it was fun....
Sorry, I am not bored with you.
ha! got it, thanks so much phaeton!
Oh, yes, we trekked 2 hrs on each of the last 2 days. Beautiful in the woods.
TY, phaeton
I love the quiet of a snowy wood
yw
Yes! I love listening to the silence, or trees squeaking, birds...
Whose woods these are I think I know. / His house is in the village though; / He will not see me stopping here / To watch his woods fill up with snow.
sigh....lovely, jwr....
Robert Frost
Yeah, I was getting the Robert Frost channeling
found one of the u words....un6
Beautiful, jwr. We got a fresh layer of white overnight.
one of the earliest poems memorized as a child. Do kids memorize poetry anymore
I don't think so, jwr.
Are you kidding? Kids don't even have to write in cursive anymore.
*sigh*
some schools do - at one of the grammar schools in my town, the second graders perform a poetry recital every ye4. the other grammar school does not though - mores the pity
i know I did, but I'm an old fart these days, according to the 30 year olds I work with
"When I was a kid....."
you fly that old fart flag, pipping! Im proud to be one!
i kinda like it
I am a proud curmudgeon!
*Imagines Trif and Pip yelling at kids to get off their lawns*
definitely a curmudgeon
there you go, scrabbler! I decided long ago being a good example was no fun at all. I am going full tilt for "cautionary tale?
tale"
now i just need a lawn...
Haha.
molly, I live waaaaaay back in the woods. If a kid showed up on my lawn I would be out there helping the poor thing, which would CLEARLY be lost
un 5 was well
as well. can't type today, sorry
last one: un 7
thanks for clarifying, Tri - that was a conundrum
un 5.16 un 6.39 un 7.52
In my office I must not be judgmental with adolescents or I would not form an alliance with them. I encourage them to set goals. It is hard to not say, "You do what?" or "You don't use any birth control ever?" "Seven lifetime sex partners and you're 16?"
Kids today.....
I don't envy you Scrabs
my mom used to come up against that ALL the time, scrabbler. "are you sexually active?" "no, we have only done it a few times...."
or "Not exactly" and then I have to ask for details and educate them.
I am not looking forward to when my granddaughters become teens
I think my favorite was the 16 yo town pump who had sex constantly. She didn't use protection - ever - because when she was four she fell down a flight of stairs, and her little old grandmother, from some old country somewhere, told her she could never have children because of it.
wrongo, grammy
the Harm reduction method seems to work best with adolescents, I found.
There was one teen that told me about all of the drugs she was using: weed, LSD, Ecstasy, opiates, but when I asked about alcohol she said, "No way, that stuff is nasty."
Harm reduction?
Now, there's a start!
but my favorite "mom tale from the office" of ALL TIME was the morbidly obese lady who came in complaining of sharp pains down her left leg. A quick exam discovered the cause - a plastic dinosaur wedged in the crack of her ass on the left side. Oh my gawd, we ROARED
It's used for modifying addictive behavior
I teach responsibility to avoid bad consequences.
That's kind of sad, actually Trif
Hahahahaha
apparently there were a bunch of them on her bed, she sat on the bed to put on panty hose, and poor t rex got trapped
it still cracks me up
They make panty hose for the morbidly obese?
LOL Trif, good pun
bichon - I made a tiny url for Harm Reduction - it's a combination social, medical, psychological process that works beautifully for the user but takes tons of training for the teacher/counselor: http://tinyurl.com/lfbmras
I have so much respect for the level of caring you show your patients, scrabbler. You obviously are the best kind of doctor
I try, jwr, I do try, but ignorance and denial lead to bad consequences.
but at least you do try - and I think that really sets you apart
Sounds impressive jwr
Trif, I love my patients and their parents even if I don't like some of them. But my heart aches for so many of them. I want to adopt hundreds of kids.
me too, but at school. only some of them though....some of them, i have to admit, I just want the earth to spin faster so they will go to high school
oh Scrabs, nothing towards you! It's a long term practice that would go into play AFTER you got past the ignorance and denial. A way of life - like ccompletely changing diet & exercise behavior permanently to fight obesity instead of quick fixes.
Trif, I feel that way with some kids....please get to the age where we can tell you to move on to an internist.
The heartache is always a part of it, so is the patience to deal with the recidivism.
amen
jwr, I live in a rural area and there is so much poverty and ignorance. We see "hillbilly" folks here. It is sad and alrming.
but some parents, omg.....
the stories I hear!
Yes! Oh, my!
Just watched Oranges and Sunshine - about the woman who uncovered the scandal of the 150,000 children deported from the UK up to 1970 - kids of poor parents or moms who were told they would be adopted in the US but were sent all over the world told their mothers had died and put into slave labor.
hi all
correction: adoped in the same country: UK, not US
that sounds heartbreaking
hi jmc
I try to explain it to my friends but they don't understand. We see truly simple people. IQ's probably 60-80, lack of education....
how was yesterday's nap?
Google Margaret Humphreys
Hi je
So sad, jwr
i know, scrabs, i can recall trying to explain to an orthodox woman in the ENT clinic that her son's hearing had nothing to do with his poor eyesight, and that if he didn't get tubes his infections would continue and possibly leave him deaf
Scrabs, m'dear - one step at a time works for you and me, too, remember?
but she was fixated on the eyesight and wouldn't hear of putting tubes in
the nap was lovely especially since i sent two emails before it and my legal research was done when i woke
It is so difficult to educate people that believe in myths and tales.
too bad, pippin. The health education in this country is so sex phobic that they've never even put in a good anatomy lesson.
best kind of work, jmc!
not only poor people scrabs. . . thus the renewal of measles. . .
Yes, so many people alow their emotions to overwhelm rational thinking and scientific evidence.
it's true, jwr and jmc, people believe some terrifying things and are so ignorant of what's actually going on in their bodies
I don't mean for teaching sex - just for letting kids know how their bodies work. The ignorance is appalling and lies (folk tales) rush in to filll the vacuum.
don't even get me started on the antivaxxers...
I see it everyday, pippin.
haha i remember when i was in high school in houston one of the other students said that the baby's big toe was in the mother's belly button. . .
at least telling girls to keep an aspirin between their knees had some practical purpose
Parents just say, "I don't believe in vaccines." What is there NOT to believe in? Look in old cemeteries and see how many babies and young kids died, in families, within days and weeks of one another.
good, pip. And "mad money" too
yup, mom taught me about mad money as well
Mad money?
*sigh* psuedo science has a lot to answer for. ..
one of my coworkers refuses to get the flu vaccine because she thinks it's a government conspiracy
this is someone studying to go into nursing who works in health care. i can't even
That was a coin for a phone call (back in the day!) or taxi fare in your shoe so you could walk away from a questionable situation.
I hear that too, pippin, although I do believe that the government does many covert things to harm Americans.
Ah, TY, jwr.
i don't disagree, but vaccines aren't one of them
i have perfect teeth at 63 because of the government conspiracy of fluoride in the water in houston
Good example, Je.
i sadly do not - three more fillings in the last 2 weeks. that's 6 this year alone
Pip, the person going into health care will not get very far -- there are mandatory vaccines for health care workers at every level. She's in for a surprise.
on the other hand, i lived on Camp Lejeune during my formative years and it's now reported that it's one of the worst public contaminations in the country, and went on for a good 30 years
OKAY, EVERYBODY UP AND SNILING
smiling?
sniling?
We're Babblers! We can take it!
*sniles*
you can snile all you like at me, i can take it indeed
I guess "sniling" is halfway from a snarl to a smile, huh?
*smirk*
snurk
who has a clue?
<==never has a clue
