6:05 am

I promised pictures from the ceremony yesterday, but my i-phone and my old computer are not on speaking terms at the moment. The mrs posted a few on FB, and I have shared them on my FB as well for those who wish a peek:)

6:05 am

The best pictures are still pending;)

6:05 am

Great! How was your "speech?"

6:06 am

It is funny, Scrabby; i spent three weekas grinding over that speech, but when I got up there, i took one look at it and tossed it on the stage and spoke from the heart instead. i felt like a better choice--and it was.

6:06 am

weeks*

6:07 am

6:13 am

((ruby))

6:13 am

I am feeling really sad and am glad to find some friends in here.

6:13 am

But you got good news

6:14 am

What are you sad about, ruby?

6:14 am

Hi bichon

6:14 am

|I see my oncologit on Tuesday, so will know bettr then (I hope) what is the plan of treatment but, ast least, I don't need the liver biopsy.

6:14 am

I am having a lot of pain and I don't know how far into my bones the cancer has spread

6:15 am

So far, I just know that it's in the sternum (on top of the old fracture) and in the rib adjacent too the old breast cancer

6:15 am

DO you have pain meds?

6:16 am

Yes, I take morphine when it gets bad but I overdid stuff this AM and am suffering for it

6:17 am

As my son is here and although he tries to help me, he is very pushy and basically unsympathetic, at least on the surface.

6:17 am

Find the right med, at the right dose, at the right interval, with the least side effects.

6:18 am

And he is constantly trying to change the ways in which I do things, like how could somebody as stupid as I have raised such a brilliant son???? almot lol

6:18 am

20mg morphine is the best, but I waited too long to take it

6:19 am

hits shit

6:19 am

You need a daughter

6:19 am

Tell him what to do for you and what you can do for yourself.

6:19 am

sorry about my oopses

6:20 am

I already had those words.

6:21 am

I need to get ready for work. ((Ruby))--peace and comfort to you.

6:21 am

I'm a little bit rusty as, with John here, I cant play without getting a sh**load of criticism

6:21 am

Thank you, scrabs

6:22 am

|I've always regretted not having had a daughter

6:22 am

What Scrabs said

6:23 am

Wow Ruby, I'm sorry to hear that. The last thing you need now is criticism.

6:23 am

aaah, 2 good things: Molly arrived and the morphine kicked in!

6:23 am

Hello Moly

6:27 am

Molly and Morphine...sounds like a grunge band : D

6:27 am

haha

en6/27, please?

6:27 am

There is a band "Red Molly" here in CT

6:27 am

don't have it Marc

OK

6:28 am

is that its color or its politics?

6:28 am

en + the kind of bag oranges come in

6:29 am

that's 6/24

yes have that one

6:30 am

Oh, sorry

6:32 am

e + double consonant + vowel + first two of not no

6:32 am

It's the last vowel

6:33 am

ty Molly

6:33 am

what a funny way to spell it

6:33 am

duny

6:34 am

ruby's probably so high

got it thanks

6:34 am

Whee!

6:34 am

the only side effect is itchiness. ||It doesn't even make me sleepy

6:35 am

You coul crush it up. Bet it would make you high

6:35 am

Ruby, for such a tiny person, you have an amazing tolerance for drugs

6:36 am

It's crazy and has been noticed whenever I've been hospitalized.

6:36 am

It was a kind of running joke \9hahah) with the nurses whenever I had surgery

6:36 am

If you take some Benadryl with it, that might help the itchiness

6:37 am

Be sure you let any anesthesiologist who works on you know that

6:38 am

They never believe me when I say that locals don't work. I once had to be held down during one suh procedure

6:38 am

I'll take itchiness over pain any time.

os6, please?

6:51 am

os 6 is a procedure you have after surgery on your intestines

don't know that

sorry

6:59 am

You get an os6 bag, gross

7:00 am

os + Actor Danza, but replace the N with an M

thanks got it

7:01 am

You've really never heard of an os6 bag? Good for you

yes but it is called a colostomy bag and I didn't see the connection to the os word

7:06 am

if you llop off the co, there you are

col needs to be loped off anyway thanks for the clue

7:11 am

It's actually called both.

7:12 am

the bag is called an os**** bag and the procedure is called a col******

I did not know that. Thanks for the clarification

7:15 am

re 6/21, pls

I just knew it as a colostomy bag

re + sh4

7:16 am

ty Marc

7:32 am

seems to be a problem with site. tried to update to pro (for 3rd time) and its a no go. Would someone tell me how many words today? Thx.

7:32 am

7:33 am

TY

7:50 am

hi Marc F.

7:50 am

hi Marc F.

7:53 am

it is lenny i am North Carolina where David will be getting married this evening..

7:54 am

marc i meant marc is getting married

8:03 am

Lenny is Dianne? Hmm

8:06 am

Lenny is my "better half"

8:21 am

Glad i missed the old bag discussion

8:27 am

Well, when you've seen one old bag, you've seen 'em all

8:27 am

are we discussing actual bags, or an insulting term for elderly women?

8:28 am

Bags

8:28 am

The discussion below was actually about colos6 bags

8:28 am

that's a relief.

8:28 am

ooh and now i got a word out of it, thanks

8:29 am

Or "poo bags" as the Brit girl on Grey's Anatomy called them

8:29 am

I jsually pick on old women on the weekends...😉

8:29 am

poo bags seems like an apt description

8:30 am

It's nice that you devote special time to them, Ru

8:30 am

They seem to be rested more that way.

8:32 am

do we have HY words today?

8:32 am

Two

8:32 am

ok, i see one of them

8:32 am

oh and i can pl

8:33 am

thanks!

8:33 am

Yqw

8:42 am

ur so swt

8:43 am

Sexmon...Jamaican stud

8:43 am

hehe

8:44 am

Ru got the hy words right away. He sings them all the time : D

8:44 am

i love singing them too :)

8:45 am

it's just when you were looking for "hyena" or "hymen", your mind might not be in the right vicinity

8:47 am

name that proper noun! super mario bros. creature

8:48 am

Yoshi

8:48 am

And here I thought you would go for the Melville novel

8:48 am

ding ding ding!

8:49 am

i do NOT like melville

8:49 am

most american authors leave me cold

8:49 am

I learned everything I know about Mario from my kids. Among other things. I had a dream once that I was on Jeopardy and the final Jeopardy question was "What does LL Cool J stand for?" And I crushed it, of course, thanks to my kids.

8:50 am

Is there some self help group for Americans who hate being American? Amerinon?

8:51 am

oh... i unfortunately do not know about LL Cool J. idk about the self help but i'm looking into being adopted by my british sister- and brother-in-law who have british citizenship. :) lol

8:53 am

that's why it is always annoying when people tell you "if you don't like it, why don't you just move out of this country!" when they are mad at you because you would like some gun control or something. it's just not that easy to be able to move to another country. perhaps we should make more treaties with allies, that would make it easier for canadians, brits, etc to become americans if that appeals to them, and same for americans in return.

8:55 am

so what *does* LL Cool J stand for?

8:55 am

Ladies Love Cool James....and good morning all!

8:55 am

Well with all the experience I had getting my husband a green card, I can tell you that it is NOT easy for Canadians to even BEGIN to become Americans.

8:56 am

Ladies Love Cool James

8:56 am

thanks, Molly and Trif!

8:56 am

If I had to pick another nationality to be, it most definitely would not be British.

8:56 am

musically i prefer to rockabye sweet baby james

8:57 am

Wow i pictured you as more heavy metal hursh

8:57 am

And hey, good for James. Finally another Number One album.

8:58 am

i assume that is a funny funny joke ruru :)

8:58 am

I hear Hursh likes the British punk rock bands : D

8:58 am

yeah i am looking forward to buying his new album

8:58 am

actually, hurshy, I pictured you with more of a harder musical edge as well.....all apologies

8:58 am

hmm, what has given people this impression?

8:58 am

i am very curious!

8:59 am

You guys, come on, Hurshy likes ABBA for God's sake

8:59 am

Omg

8:59 am

well, i like bohemian rhapsody, anyway

8:59 am

Musically I am pretty darn schizophrenic. there is nothing I won't listen to. my Ipod is an real mix

9:00 am

no wait is that queen?

9:00 am

All apologies...Trif goes Cobain in her response

9:00 am

he's on there.

9:00 am

It's Queen

9:00 am

i am often not good at identifying which artists go with which songs, because often i just like one or two songs by anybody

9:01 am

along with: abba, sex pistols, human sexual response, Andrews sisters, Kathy mattea, and the Carmina Burana

9:01 am

there's a group called Carmina Burana?

9:01 am

I hate buying crappy albums for one song

9:01 am

actually i was just thinking, now that we are in the age of downloading music, why are artists stlil releasing "albums" - why wait till you have a whole bunch of new songs to release all at once, why not just put each song out as it is ready?

9:02 am

the carmina burana is an opera by Orff, uusue

9:02 am

Abba makes me ill

9:02 am

ah, that one I know, trif! I thought maybe you were referring to something else (since I am utterly ignorant of popular culture)

9:03 am

It's not an opera; it's a cantata

9:03 am

LOVE me some abba, ruru! I have BOTH the Mamma Mia soundtracks as well ,broadway and movie.

9:03 am

I stand corrected erda, thank you!!!

9:03 am

welcome...

9:04 am

AaaaaaaaAaaaaaaaaah

9:06 am

Valentine likes abba too?

9:07 am

what songs is abba famous for? then i can know if i like them or not. i know they did the mamma mia music but i did not see or listen to that

9:07 am

dancing queen, waterloo, knowing me knowing you

9:08 am

<-- never heard anything by ABBA that I know of

9:08 am

I am convinced that the muzak in Hell is a continuous loop of ABBA music

9:08 am

how could you avoid dancing queen????

9:08 am

i don't think i am very into abba then. i do transform "dancing queen" into "dairy queen" to sing about my cat Mitten. "see that girl, watch her preen, she is the dairy queen..."

9:08 am

Me too

9:10 am

Abba plays continously in the elevators to hell

9:10 am

the r in the right column is a tricky business....have only found one word from it thus far

9:10 am

i like a variety of things - 80s/90s from my own youth, oldies, big band...

9:10 am

I thought Barry Manilow was in the elevators to Hell

9:10 am

oh ro5, ro5, wherefore art thou ro5?

9:10 am

they didn't get the scene right the first time so the re6 it

9:11 am

thanks hurshy!!! now I have three

9:11 am

4!

9:11 am

Plural of the where for art thou guy too

9:11 am

and cut the end off the re6 for a 4

9:11 am

And what you do when you lie down

9:12 am

I love you guys and gals

9:13 am

i still want to know what it is about me that seems like i would have a musical edge

9:14 am

Well you have an avatar of a cat twerking

9:14 am

fyi, i picture everyone here as being young, in shape, and good looking. don't know why.

9:14 am

that cat is not twerking, it has a water gun pointed at it in the full photo and it is surrendering

9:14 am

Another ro6 ends like the Grand place in Arizona

9:15 am

i despise twerking

9:15 am

ooh and alt sp of that molly!

9:15 am

And the other ro6 is like the weepy vegetable

9:15 am

Yeah, that one

9:16 am

*Crosses the Miley Cyrus CD off of "Gift List For Hurshy"

9:16 am

Good morning, all!

9:16 am

:D

9:17 am

Pictures zucchini in therapy

9:17 am

maybe molly should have called it the OGRE vegetable instead

9:17 am

Hiya judes

9:19 am

ok so 7s are ou7, se7, and...?

9:20 am

Io

9:20 am

...io

9:22 am

hmm i got an io6 but can't pl that

9:22 am

Gloves for charged particles

9:25 am

Alaskan capital gloves for charged particles

9:25 am

Darn, not capital, city

9:25 am

juneauionmitts

9:26 am

i got it!

9:26 am

i see the alaskan city but still no idea how gloves come into play in that word

9:28 am

io gloves start, city, one who does suffix

9:28 am

Oy, oh, no, no, all these o's and y's are making me cross, and cross eyed. Hmmphf!

9:28 am

is there a brand of gloves called io or something?

9:29 am

It was a clever play on words by Ru. Alas, cleverness seems to fall like a lead balloon in here. Gloves = isotoner

9:29 am

ohhh ISOTONER!!!! lol

9:30 am

Lead balloon rising!

9:30 am

are there any MY words?

9:31 am

Nope

9:31 am

No, hursh, no my's

9:31 am

Ru, next time go with io + single hump letter + roundy vowel + double hump letter + second vowel + letter

9:32 am

You had me at hump

9:32 am

aaaaack no don't say that molly

9:34 am

*snort*

9:35 am

there is middle ground between isotoner being a stretch for that word and spellout clues, surely

9:35 am

Spell out clues, especially ones with ***s are the favorite around here, unfortunately

9:35 am

Wonders what judi is snorting at?

9:36 am

ones with ****s are different from describing how the lettters look, don't you think?

9:36 am

Yeah, it's usually hump instead of hello in my world

9:37 am

No, I don't think. Substituting stars for letters is just another way of spelling them out

9:37 am

no, it requires you to be able to fill in what a word is in a sentence. i mean you can do it inelegantly so that it becomes ridiculous, like: beg**ning + **tally awesome or something, but

9:38 am

but if i said, show me the *****, for an mo clue (not a word today but a phantom), how is that bad?

9:39 am

B*t y**r br*in c*n usu**ly fi** in th* mis*ing letters that the stars are used for.

9:39 am

Yes, but why not just say show me the mo5?

9:40 am

And trust me, there is an element of the people asking for clues here who would not get either one

9:40 am

yes, if people do it like you just did i agree it is ridiculous. but i think it is fine if used the way i did. i could say show me the mo5, but, six of one, half dozen of the other. putting asterisks instead does not automatically make it a stupid clue

9:40 am

well yes, i agree with you about that element.

9:40 am

But I never used the word stupid

9:41 am

there is a point at which you want to say, look, if you don't get it, you don't get it, people do not owe you more and more clues until you have the word.

9:42 am

esp when someone targets the original clue giver with a request for more

9:42 am

oe

9:42 am

oops sorry

9:44 am

Old macdonald for dyslexics. Pab?

9:45 am

Lol, nope just fingers trying to type to fast.

9:47 am

STANDS AND APPLAUDS FOR HURSHY

9:47 am

hmm, me? what did i do now :)

9:48 am

Your comments about clues, spot on

9:48 am

well it is nice to have a chance to say these things where it isn't brought on by someone DOING it and therefore creating hard feelings, hehe

9:51 am

and i apologize if i was in any way annoyingly persistent in trying to understand how gloves related to the io7 :)

9:51 am

You were not annoying, Hurshy. I was scratching my head over that clue as well.

9:51 am

Annoying? Never. You are a breath of fresh air around here. So glad you decided to come back.

9:52 am

:)

9:52 am

i like you too, Molly :)

9:53 am

I am annoying

9:53 am

And if it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, people should not get hard feelings when you refer to it as a duck. But they do.

9:53 am

no, you're ruru

9:53 am

We have no problem with you, sir.

9:54 am

Being a duck around here isn't all it is quacked up to be...

9:54 am

R stats please?

9:54 am

duck, duck, GOOSE!

9:54 am

quack

9:55 am

nm

9:55 am

nbt

9:55 am

*HONK!!!*

9:55 am

*throws flag* FOWL!

9:56 am

nbs

9:57 am

Judi is trying to get down

9:57 am

hi evanadine :) i still remember when we had an icon theme day that was "green, green for evanadine"

9:57 am

Look you all, stop getting people's dander up

9:58 am

hiya hurshy. still the best color there is. :D

9:58 am

Time to take a gander at the list.

9:58 am

this chat is for the birds...

9:58 am

I don't give a flock either

9:59 am

what are you all squawking about?

9:59 am

Some kumbaya person is going to chime in and say we should be kind to our webbed footed friends

9:59 am

Crossy tries to peck out a few more words from the grid....

10:00 am

Well...better than being stark raven mad

10:00 am

It always quacked me up that even though Eva is clearly EvaNadine, marked by the letters, people refer to her as Evan

10:00 am

seems like youre all up in a flap about something...

10:01 am

Call me whatever you want, just don't call me late for breakfast!

10:01 am

there was another babbler named, simply, Eva. so i became EvaN...then just Evan. totally quackers.

10:02 am

same reason i use Suze for our professors, because there are two others who use the handle of sue in one form or another

10:02 am

well once upon a time, wasn't it evanadine without any caps?

10:02 am

Yeah.. i gave up on ruruhair a while ago

10:03 am

As Billy Joel would say, you'll always be Eva to me

10:03 am

lol

10:03 am

golly, ithink WAAAAAAAAY back in the day, onceuponatime, it may have been!

10:03 am

well so yeah then it was NOT clear and so, yeah.

10:04 am

then there was also evanonut, who was so named because she was a big fan of janet evanovich.

10:04 am

Yes but people referred to her as Nutty

10:04 am

Beware the nickname your nickname may spawn.

10:04 am

yeah

10:05 am

We should start calling Judi...Jud

10:05 am

Hi all - can I please get a hint for the re6.

10:05 am

yeah another friend who doesn't babble but was over on ironsudoku had chosen "btwrt" which was supposed to be for "bethany writes" but which, without knowing that, we read as buttwart

10:06 am

Ha. I've been called worse.

10:06 am

I can go by mr rocks

10:06 am

behold! the mighty buttwart!

10:07 am

she was pretty horrified when she realized that is what we were thinking

10:08 am

Sir, we would be happy to refer to you as Mr. Rocks

10:09 am

or we could just say, "yeah, he's really got rocks!" a lot

10:09 am

He who referred to you as RuPaul has left the building

10:12 am

We're just having a rollicking old time here

10:12 am

It's nice when the chat is fun, instead of stuffy

10:13 am

Rock on

10:14 am

Good riddance i say

10:15 am

fellow babblers...i have a question pertaining to your discussion of cueing words. May I pose this question?

10:15 am

pose away

10:17 am

ty.... for a cue for i06...could I give this clue? When it comes to paying taxes I owe n***.

10:17 am

Would this be allowed?

10:18 am

sure, why not? The worst that could happen is spend a few hours with the cabana boys

10:18 am

well that's the thing, there's not "allowed" or "not allowed", obviously people can do what they want, but we've had varying TASTES

10:19 am

Good ...because I love puns and playing with words!

10:19 am

those of us who prefer clever and sophisticated clues have at times been called things along the lines of uppity snobs by people who like to say "round letter + straight letter + hump letter"

10:19 am

There are no rules. We are an anarchosyndicalist commune

10:20 am

and we have generally refrained from calling them dumb in return

10:20 am

woot for Harry, a big word

10:20 am

LOL

10:20 am

Then again, some of us have no taste (at times).

10:21 am

love that huge word Harry! I just hope they don't put it in a future grid!

10:21 am

what about chair letter...that's always got to me...grrrrr

10:21 am

many's the time i've had to bite my tongue rather than say, "well if you're that stupid maybe you shouldn't be PLAYING word games!"

10:22 am

lol, Hurshy. Whereby, "DUH" becomes very useful.

10:22 am

I bite my tongue while I say that to myself.

10:22 am

speaking of stupid....I'm having a heap of trouble with this grid.

10:22 am

No don't say that hurshy...some of us are playing word games to become a little smarter.

10:22 am

It is a WORD game. You are supposed to be finding the WORDS in the grid. No being spoon fed, easy, spelled out clues.

10:22 am

ok but who else remembers the time when the ditzy Mikey couldn't get ditz after about five gazillion clues

10:22 am

And sometimes I'm not so swift on the uptake

10:22 am

*hides spoon behind back*

10:23 am

it is fine to play to become a little smarter. i mean, we all learn things here. :) it's the people who never seem to learn that i find hard to cope with.

10:23 am

It's great to play word games to become a little smarter. But you don't get smarter by having the word handed to you.

10:23 am

Sorry to have "Rocked the boat again".

10:23 am

but many of the people who i found frustrating, also no longer play, so, phew.

10:24 am

we are enjoying the sway, aebmusica, no apology needed

10:24 am

It is not rocking the boat to ask a question. As long as you are prepared for any answers you might get.

10:24 am

okay...I was going to crawl back into my cave.

10:25 am

Rock The Boat, now we are back to bad 70's music

10:26 am

I will hunt you down and hurt you if that song is stuck in my head today.

10:26 am

i'm sorry if i made you feel like crawling back into a cave!

10:26 am

I am a teacher, so I am used to many different, humorous, innovative and yes, inane answers.

10:26 am

Aeb, I got taken to task for giving a "too easy" clue by one of the Babble Elders. It didn't keep me from playing here, learning and cluing on a different level later on.

10:27 am

Ha Ha Harry, love the groovy 70's beat.

10:27 am

This won't keep me away... I've been playing this sine 2006!

10:28 am

babble elders sounds like a scientology sect

10:29 am

halfway!!!!!

10:30 am

or a senior citizen help group for those who babble on and on and on.

10:30 am

It is a sect of sorts

10:31 am

I don't think it's a crime to ask for clues one way or another.. but not incessantly on a daily basis

10:31 am

It's one thing to need help, it's another thing to expect other people to solve the grid for you

10:32 am

I don't think I have ever done that.

10:32 am

not that I'm aware of

10:32 am

i don't think you have

10:32 am

And I'm sorry if this offends, but if you can't figure out the four letter words, this may not be the game for you.

10:32 am

I've been asking for clues lately ...some of the recent grids have been a little tougher

10:33 am

oh.. molly you nailed it.. If you have to ask for clues on a 4.. that is the epitome of laziness

10:33 am

I usually do come on chat that often and when I do I like to add a little humor to it. But the discussion on cluing interested me.

10:33 am

if DIlution is a work, shouldn't lution be a word, or at least monolution? (only half kidding)

10:33 am

nobody objects to asking for clues in and of itself!

10:34 am

well one did hursh.. but he's not around anymore

10:34 am

Oh Ru, we are not allowed to use the word laziness. I mentioned that about people who can't be bothered to spell out words...this is a word game after all...and was taken to task for it here and on Facebook.

10:35 am

I like the word monolution......I think it is a good nonce word.

10:35 am

uh oh.. should I go to some kind of bad person penalty box?

10:35 am

oh harry i was thinking that about in6/21 today - if we can have the superlative why not the comparative :)

10:35 am

a monolution is asubstance diuted with itself. that is, a pure substance.

10:36 am

No sir, everyone here loves you.

10:36 am

molly you don't mind about not spelling out things we have to use a lot, though, do you? i mean like pl for plural and stuff

10:36 am

which in6/21 hurshy?

10:36 am

Thanks all...well back to the gird for me...57 left to do.

10:36 am

there's only one in6/21 today i think.

10:37 am

thanks for the clue! hah!

10:37 am

got it!

10:37 am

There are people here who don't understand what pl means or pt. Not everyone abbreviates. I personally don't abbreviate at all because I love words.

10:37 am

I will need to start using that word.

10:38 am

Most new people here don't get what co 6/27 means until someone tells them.

10:39 am

Harry... you use that word already if you use an aftershave cologne.

10:40 am

how so aeb?

10:41 am

well sure, and i don't mind explaining things to newbies, but i would find it exhausting to preemptively spell everything out just in case there are any newbies who don't know and can't guess that pl means plural

10:41 am

I believe it has to do with chemicals and ketones that are mixed together to create perfumes(maybe colognes).

10:42 am

aebmusica which word are you talking about? i feel like some wires may have gotten crossed here.

10:42 am

aah - the io6. sorry - was thinking of the in6

10:42 am

io6

10:43 am

I had a student with last name io6 once. I think it had more n's in it though.

10:43 am

ah that explains it. yeah we were discussing in6/21.

10:44 am

(your deepest secrets are your in6 secrets, sometimes this word is made into a 9 letter version)

10:44 am

time to go pick up a child. 71 to go!

10:45 am

clue for last mo6?

10:45 am

and i'm off to lunch, ttfn

10:45 am

ooh except i was hoping to clue that so

10:45 am

if you 've read A Little Prince you know that french for sheep is mo6

10:45 am

Ah..stupid me...I already knew in6, and use it, but I had to search the filing cabinet of my brain for io6(don't use that word very often.

10:45 am

or wait, do you have to have read the entirely french version to know that...

10:46 am

right aebmusica, i was just saying that if we can say in6 (which is like a superlative) why isn't another in6 (a comparative) also a word. like harry's dilution, lution, monolution thing.

10:47 am

so then i think harry was indicating a desire to start using the comparative.

10:47 am

ty

10:47 am

I never find it exhausting to spell out words. Have a good day for example. Why not use words to express a good wish? It's just me. Everyone else thinks it too cool for school to abbreviate.

10:47 am

Read it in French intirely and in German also.

10:48 am

I'm not that into text speak either, just for babble-frequent things.

10:49 am

and i do say LOL... (in fact now when i find something funny, the thing that happens in my brain is "LOL" rather than like "haha" or anything)

10:49 am

I meant entirely!

10:49 am

But really, how often are you really laughing out loud when you post LOL?

10:50 am

I sometimes have trouble with 4 letter words, but not too often. And I never ask for help

10:50 am

If I ever start thinking LOL instead of "that's funny" I hope someone shoots me.

10:50 am

not always... but that's why LLOL was invented

10:51 am

No, LOL and all the other shortcuts were invented for (sorry) lazy typers.

10:51 am

but it's come to take on different nuance and connotation

10:52 am

Yes, because people can't be bothered to type out whole words anymore. Again, just my take on it, which is not popular.

10:52 am

just like other synonyms we have in english, it's nice to have options that can more precisely get at the flavor of what we want to say. i use "hehe" and "lol" for different effects.

10:53 am

well you don't have to like them.

10:53 am

ah well

10:53 am

i am REALLY going to lunch now.

10:53 am

ttfn (sorry but that one is from POOH so you really can't talk me out of that one)

10:53 am

Thank you Hurshy for having a discussion about this without getting all hissy.

10:54 am

yeah no probs - i enjoy discussing things sort of theoretically and dispassionately.

10:54 am

i really appreciate that you do also!

10:57 am

om

10:58 am

Hi Annie

10:59 am

Annie the last two days I've not done well in QP

10:59 am

hi bichon :)

11:00 am

bichon, I never do well in QP but I still carry on.

11:00 am

are you meditating annie?

11:01 am

OMMMMMM

11:03 am

11:10 am

*lights incense*

11:25 am

I am blind to the un6 - can someone help me?

11:25 am

un + netting looks like ****.....

11:26 am

Thanks pen,

11:26 am

yw...

11:26 am

nam myoho renge kyo

11:27 am

Back to the *** clues

11:27 am

well it worked....

11:28 am

They always do

11:31 am

Please help me with the re7.

11:32 am

There is no re7

11:32 am

there is no re7----re6---to hit with a bullet again

11:33 am

funny how you can't close the door again but you can shoot a gun again....

11:33 am

Annie - thanks so much. NO wonder I couldn't find it.

11:34 am

pen, the NRA lobby

11:34 am

ah...of course....

11:35 am

I think it is a tense thing. The door word is past tense. The gun word is present tense.

11:36 am

the door word can be present tense, too....."**** the door!"

11:37 am

i am going outside to read a while....bbl to finish....bye!

11:38 am

I am leaving also, going to play mah jongg..19 left for later

11:39 am

If you sh4 the door, it is the same as if you closed the door, both are past tense.

11:44 am

he sh^^s the door...present tense.... ;o)....i am really going now...bye!

11:46 am

Woo, like a dog with a bone...look it up...shut is past tense

11:52 am

Are we arguing about this?

11:52 am

No, not really.

11:54 am

Sure seemed like it

11:56 am

what tense is "the door is shut"?

11:56 am

thyme

11:58 am

Present I shut you shut he shuts we shut you shut they shut

11:59 am

Isn't that using it as an adjective blah?

11:59 am

not sure, it was an honest question, but I think you're right

11:59 am

I'm not good at English, stronger at maths subjectd

12:00 pm

Not good at typing :)

12:00 pm

:-)

12:02 pm

There is a difference between disagreeing and arguing. Pen and I rarely argue.

12:03 pm

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

12:14 pm

Thinks the dictionary should take off for not having the word ho4/5r

12:35 pm

Enable doesn't recognize McKenzie Brothers made up words

12:42 pm

That word has a tradition dating back far before the McKenzie Brothers.

12:43 pm

That word is far wordier than a lot of words in the dictionary.

12:46 pm

Ah, far wordier, yes indeed

12:55 pm

In pre-Zamboni days, the losing team had the responsibility of restoring the ice.

12:56 pm

Whee!!!

1:56 pm

take off, eh?

1:56 pm

... it's a groovy way to go

1:57 pm

bye again ;) more kids to pick up

1:57 pm

... or should that have been "it's a beauty way to go"/ ... I've forgotten

2:02 pm

a beauty way to go

2:03 pm

... makes sense ... ... like putting baby mice into empty beer bottles and replacing the caps so that you can take them back to the store and get a free 2-4

2:09 pm

hi all. i have se 7. but not the others. any stats or clues? ty

2:10 pm

... ou7 ... builds from ou5 ... to perfrom better than someone else

2:12 pm

ty got it. great clue. one more left. any clues?

2:12 pm

... not yet ... haven't listed but will likely do so soon

2:15 pm

ty.

2:18 pm

... io7/32 ... charged particle followed by a four letter word that is in the grid

2:19 pm

... and there's an io6/18 ... the first charged particle

2:31 pm

Good afternoon everybody:)

2:33 pm

.. hey crossy

2:34 pm

:)

2:45 pm

Future Hall of Famer Jim Thome is in the grid

2:45 pm

... so are those things which he was prone to hit

2:46 pm

He had 612 of them, in fact

2:49 pm

io 7, pls

2:50 pm

... the best I could do was a charged particle followed by a four letter word that's in the grid

2:50 pm

io + city in Alaska + one who does suffix

2:51 pm

t Molly

3:02 pm

Hello everyone :-) Another late start for me today. Thanks for the io 7!

3:03 pm

Wow, the clue master needed a clue? : D

3:04 pm

Well to be fair I have only just started :-)

3:06 pm

And I very often list near the end Not like some babblers who can do these grids with no help at all!

3:07 pm

46 words in and got all the 7s. They were easy ones tonight!

3:10 pm

Zoom...the grid master!

3:10 pm

Hah far from it but thanks for the thought..lol

3:14 pm

Personally, flying through the grid at warp speed would not be fun for me. I like looking for words when I get a chance to sit down and look at the grid, during the day.

3:17 pm

Yes I tend to agree. I often leave it for a while and come back to it. It is kind of nice to have a game I love playing still with lots of words to find through out the day.Probably why I hate tiny grids.

3:21 pm

Hello all. I am with you Moly and zooz, I lile to go at my own pace and only get help when in great difficulty. (which is quite often ... but do not tell anyone!!)

3:21 pm

lol hello ((Mo))

3:21 pm

ooh! sorry MOLLY!

3:22 pm

time for a list.

3:23 pm

Hi Harry.

3:23 pm

hi ho mo

3:24 pm

:-)

3:24 pm

off to work we go1

3:25 pm

heh.

3:25 pm

Excuse my typing errors.

3:26 pm

Hope you are enjoying the warm weather, Mo :-)

3:27 pm

I am zooz but according to the forecast it isnt going to last, unfortunately.

3:28 pm

It never does, Mo, So I am not surprised :-(

3:29 pm

nor me, but we can live in hope ...

3:30 pm

Yes you are right. Hoping for a nice heatwave this summer. My bones could do with a proper heating up..lol

3:31 pm

Fingers crossed.

3:32 pm

And the digits on our feet :-)

3:32 pm

wish I could!!!!

3:33 pm

Oh sorry I did not know.

3:34 pm

did not know what?

3:35 pm

That you could not cross your digits on you feet :-)

3:35 pm

blimey ... can you?

3:36 pm

I am saying digits as TO 4 is in the grid :-)

3:36 pm

Well if I use my fingers I can..lol

3:36 pm

They do not stay there very long though.

3:37 pm

well yes so can I, but thats sort of cheating!!"

3:38 pm

Although saying that...my little digit is always crossed over another one as when I was a child I had tight Sh4s and now they stay that way.

3:38 pm

we seem to have frightened everyone off so I will let you get on unless you need any help.

3:39 pm

I am sure they are just busy doing the grid :-)

3:39 pm

No I still have too many to ask for clues. But thank you, Mo.

3:39 pm

And as usual it is really nice to see you in the chat log :-)

3:40 pm

oooh! I am having trouble with my big toe and the next one ,,,, but that was high heels that caused that.

3:40 pm

nice to see you too ... good luck and good hunting.

3:42 pm

bye everyone.

3:42 pm

Thanks, Mo.Have a wonderful night :-)

3:42 pm

you too zooz.

3:43 pm

I really am going now ...... byeeeeeee

3:43 pm

Toodle pips!

3:50 pm

Don't look, Zoom is toodling his pips again : D

3:53 pm

Okay 33 left.Need to rest my eyeballs for a while.Happy babbling everyone.

3:53 pm

((Molly))

3:54 pm

*Won't send Zoom to the PB for re4

3:55 pm

For those who know our Rubyfoo - i've just spoken to her. It seems that damn breast cancer she sucessfully fought 25 years ago is back in her sternum & one of her ribs. But.... TreT

3:56 pm

...treatable...

3:57 pm

Thanks Soodle. Ruby checked in here earlier and gave a report on her status. It seems her son is not being very helpful. Damn.

4:01 pm

hello everyone :-)

4:01 pm

Well, Molly, at least he is in situ! His presence must be some comfort to her. Even though I know Rubes is Jewish - I've had several (Catholic) Masses said for her..... I reckon no harm can be done

4:02 pm

Hello Nan :-)

4:04 pm

Prayers are prayers, in whatever variety they come. Ruby said today that her son was being critical. That is not what she needs right now.

4:11 pm

I'm uncomfortable discussing Ruby's domestic arrangements when she's not here. Suffice to say I spoke with her this evening. She is understandably scared and worried. my thoughts & prayers are with her.

4:12 pm

Thoughts and prayers are certainly helpful. Discussing her family less so.

4:13 pm

I didn't say anything that Ruby didn't already say when she was chatting earlier. Bichon said that Ruby needs a daughter. I agree. Even though I don't have one. A girl child is much more into their female parent than a boy child.

4:14 pm

And now I will leave this conversation since my comments seem to be bothering people.

4:14 pm

I've found that we can criticize our family ourselves, but it's less comfortable to hear it from others. That's all.

4:15 pm

ditto what Molly was saying -- I was in the chat at the same time -- poor Ruby was saying that her son was being very overbearing rather than helpful :-(

4:16 pm

Thank you Une.

4:16 pm

Molly's just quoting Ruby . . .

4:17 pm

ok, then I'll leave the conversation. I agree with Soodle, though. I've noticed people discussing other people's situations in the past, and it's one thing to give information, another to discuss their family, even if it is quoting.

4:18 pm

Okay, I'm sorry I said anything about this. My bad.

4:25 pm

Oh for Heaven's sake! Rubyfoo is a regular Babbler. She has recently been diagnosed with cancer. She is in a precarious position with her elderly husband in a country where French is not their first language.

4:26 pm

I don't think she needs this bickering.

4:28 pm

It's not bickering Soodle. All I did was mention something that Ruby said earlier. Because I feel bad that her support person is not helping her in the way she needs help.

4:35 pm

anyone still here - or did everyone go away mad?

4:36 pm

I'm not mad Nan. I just don't get why people get so freakin' sensitive about things that were already mentioned in chat.

4:37 pm

*waving white flag

4:37 pm

Kumbaya

4:37 pm

well I am here, but missed all the chat, hello all

4:38 pm

I'm lurking....

4:38 pm

hi saanich

babble on.

4:38 pm

hey nan

4:38 pm

Hello Saan, bluebirds and happiness to you. : D

4:39 pm

this was an unexpectedly difficult puzzle, finished thank god

4:39 pm

congrats saan

4:39 pm

hello Molly, I could use a few bluebirds and happiness about now, thank you for them

4:40 pm

finding it tough -- going to have about 5 or 6 at the end that I"ll need help with

4:40 pm

I know the feeling Saan, hope they make it your way.

4:40 pm

and Trader Kate, great to see you

4:41 pm

thanks MollyL much appreciated and the same to you too

4:41 pm

nice to see a ll of you... i've been lurking for a few days, just not chatting...I hope all is well in Babbleland :)

4:41 pm

This grid is tough because of the way some of the words are stacked up...or down

4:42 pm

or words I have never heard of!

4:42 pm

4:42 pm

I'm finding it a bit sticky too... but I just started.

5:58 pm

Reader, I have the one before it but I do not know what you me by "if so it describes something with it"

5:58 pm

6:03 pm

Not really, TK, I went and read a book for a while..lol

6:03 pm

Thanks Trader and Zoozzoom, see you all later

6:04 pm

at least a book is easier on your eyes;)

6:04 pm

bye b-man!

6:04 pm

Yes I think it must be the glare of the screen.

6:05 pm

I find that I can't be on the computer too long - my eyes get tired. I try to take a break at least every hour.

6:05 pm

How are you keeping, TK. Not seen you here for a while.Hope all is well with you :-)

6:07 pm

I've been better; I've been worse.. things are looking up though, thanks for asking. When I'm away, I miss the Babble gang.. How are things on the big Isle?

6:08 pm

Well now the weather has warmed up a tad. It is not too bad here..lol Glad things are looking up for you :-)

6:09 pm

I think I saw an earlier comment that you were hoping for some warm weather to come your way? has it been cold so far?

6:11 pm

Yes it has been cooler than usual. The last couple of years we have had a rather hot may/june but it had been rather nippy this year.

6:13 pm

we got a late start to summer here too...April and May were very cold... the temperature is still dropping into the single digits or low teens overnight... but the days have now been quite summery... 28 yesterday

6:14 pm

Yes we too have similar night temperatures too. Nice to be getting the 28c though! Hope you are enjoying it!

6:18 pm

yes I AM!!! We have had some wonderful sunny days.. though i see some rain on the horizon... we had a heck of a thunderstorm a few days ago.. I saw somments in hte chog - I guess it enveloped most of the US Northeas and Canada I think - the whole house was shaking the thunder was so intense!

6:18 pm

I see my typing has not improved one iota...

6:19 pm

I'm at the library... a lot of the keys don't work well unless you really hit them hard... the enter key is the same...

6:20 pm

Wow! I think I saw a few babblers talking about those thunderstorms a few days ago. Thankfully here in the UK we do not get too many of those large storms that brew up over your side of the pond.

6:21 pm

Ha I do typos all the time so I can understand them no worries there :-)

6:21 pm

They are a wonder to watch - I love them if I can watch them safely.. I saw some great shots of lightening hitting the CN Tower in Toronto - stunning!

6:22 pm

Well, some things never change - love me; love my typos... ;)

6:22 pm

Yes I agree they are lovely to see and to photograph too!

6:23 pm

well, I'm about half way now.. I'm going to take a break for a few minutes and get some air... I'll be back soon.

6:24 pm

I might be gone when you come back. But it was nice to see you, TK. Hope I see you again soon!

6:24 pm

You'll have to make a trip this way just to take some of those shots....I know it's not your usual thing, but I'll bet you'd do a good storm justice!

6:24 pm

bbs

6:25 pm

Lightening is not that hard to photograph really.

6:25 pm

Bye for now, TK!

6:53 pm
