hello Sprite
I am agonizing over an9, does anyone have a clue?
hi flosey :)
there are 2 x an9, have the first one, they are both an9/66
an9/66: first 4 of a book consisting of short stories + plural for speeding contest
aha, thanks Sprite, got it, whew!!
yvw :)
Good day all, does anyone know if the ac8 is related to the ac7? Or have a clue for ac8?
hi melissa :)
Hi hi hi sprite!
hello melissa, just looking for that one now myself
Hiya flosey, long time no chat. Been cuckoo busy...husband and I just bought our first house together :)
oh wow, congrats! I hope you will be very happy in it.
how lovely, melissa
thank you so much! I can't believe we found it. We live in Portland OR and real estate here is bonkers. We were very lucky. And I love, love, love our new little home.
It's not a fashion part of town, but it's covered in tall Douglas Firs, like living in the forest. So many hummingbirds, hawks, birds I've never seen before...I still feel like it's a dream.
I don't think they are related
I don't either, because no forms meet up..but can't imagine what that ac8 could possibly be. I'm sure someone will figure it out!
Melissa, have taken the sites, will listen to you tomorrow
ok, here goes. Ac8/55: first 4 of sharp, sudden. Last 4 of to move rhythmically on music.
I do like this puzzle though...so many unusual words to chew on. I might not get through it, but I like it! Ah flosey, that's kind.
ooooh goood clue Sprite!
thanks :)
thank you so much, you clever girl.
yvw and I can be very very stupid!
I was feeling all sophisticated just for finding the ac7, but ac8 was a special doozy I think. sprite, not that I've seen, but can't we all.
it means: a measure of the sharpness with which a film can reproduce the edge of an object
and thanks Sprite for the ac8 clue, have never heard that word
aha, and now I can understand why I haven't!
*giggles* All the knowledge we gather here which we will never ever need :D
I love it. I keep a long list of words I learn through here that I like the sound/meaning of, it's one of my favorite things about puzzling words here.
even though I will never, ever need them...I love collecting them, like pretty rocks from an ocean of language.
ikr! Same here. I love learning new words. Especially the ones I'd never have considered possible. Like the pt- and jn-words, and the 'vowelless' words, and such.
whew!! fw (at long last!) and now to bed, it's just turned 2: am
sprite, what always astounded me are people like you doing it in your second, or third, or fourth language...how totally mindblowing. I have middling reading ability in a few romance languages but the thought of doing puzzles like these in them...holy smokes.
night night flosey and congrats!
wtg flosey! Sleep well and sweet dreams.
ty ty
I couldn't do it in french, melissa. In german I might be able to do it, though not all the way through to fireworks.
In german there'd be too many 12 and 13 pointers to ever finish. :)
roflollll ain't that the truth!
I also play a word game called wordament. you can chose between about five different languages. I did try a couple and oh my! Well lets just say it was just pure guess work to find any words in the short time allowed to find any lol
hiya zooz *hugs* I don't really enjoy the games with time limits, to be honest
No I do not either, Sprite, that is why I love babble so much. I can take my time and enjoy finding the words :-)
*hugs* back at you :-)
exactly. And chat with friends in the meantime :) How have you been? And how are the parents?
hey zooz! yes, me neither on times, unless they are super super simple. I do play wordsplay.net, but only the smallest possible grid.
I am keeping well thanks and parents are also holding up reasonably well too. Thanks for asking :-)
How are things with you?
glad to hear! I am fine. A bit busy, but things should settle now and I still very much enjoy the work.
I have not tried that one, Mellissa! Will have to take a look and see what it is like.
ooh sprite, may I ask where you are working?
zoom, it's a 3 minute timed, very quick, but fun for filling a few spare minutes when surfing around. hope you like it!
am doing volunteer work for a telephone help service. People in trouble can call and we offer really listening, no judgement, and if possible a bit of helping them think things through.
3 minutes not bad considering wordament only lets you have about 1 minute to find words lol
oh sprite, how perfect for someone as warm and caring as you. that truly makes me happy, to know you are out there listening for people who need it so badly.
aw shucks! You got me blushing. I am just very glad to be able to give back to society again.
We have that here, Spritey, It is called the samaritans.
I think it's beautiful. I truly do. I've been struggling with health and out of work for some time so I know that feeling of wanting to give back...you picked a wonderful way to do that.
we used to be SOS telephone help desk. But a couple of years ago they hired some advertising firm and they changed it in sensoor. Sens for sensitive and oor for dutch for ear. I think it is a stupid name, but hey, I haven't studied for advertising, lol
thanks melissa. It feels like I am in the right place. And it humbles me to see how much suffering there is in the world. And how few people really listen to eachother.
Well I can see the logic in the name to be honest.
American ones last I checked are very blunt: like Suicide Prevention Line. Which makes me not want to call, for one, because it's hard to acknowledge things are that dark. Maybe that's changed recently, I don't know.
((Melissa))
well yeah, me too. But it sounds a bit forced. But you know, being a volunteer, to me, means I don't have to worry about all that. I am not gonna fret about anything related to the organisation. Just gonna do my shifts and try and be the best volunteer I can be.
Listening is perhaps the most underrated skill. So glad you are there giving that to people. Thanks for hugs, zoom. Things are better now, thankfully.
we have that too, here. It is called 113online and it offers both telephone and chat help. Outside office hours it is sensoor who answers their calls, so we are truly working together.
am so glad things are going better for you now, melissa
it's chronic pain and health stuff...I have a hard time accepting it. but that's improving of late. thanks for your good wishes.
I know that struggle. It really takes time learning to accept it. And finding a way to live with it that works for you.
Yes my father has the same problems, Melissa. What he hates the most is not being able to do what he used to be able to do and now has to rely on others to help him.
good morning everybody. I'm not even dressed yet, slept in until almost 10!
That second bit...it's really what's kicked my ass. Admitting I need a cane, that I can't shower without a seat, etc. Ugh. It's somewhat vanity but more that feeling of being small and helpless that I hate. And yes, relying overly on others, particularly my dear husband.
good for you, ruby! *hugs* How are you holding up, darling?
Yesterday was the first nice day and I even did a little gardening, but paid for it with pain
Hello, Ruby, it seems you needed the extra sleep.
as long as it was worth it, ruby... I hope you enjoyed it.
Gosh, way too many of us here struggling with hurt it seems. Hi ruby, hope your gardening was lovely.
yeah that is a tough battle. I remember crying in the store when I bought my first cane.
It was just getting rid of some winter weeds which were encroaching on the burgeoning tulips
((oh sprite.)) thank goodness for amazon, so no one had to see my face when I bought mine.
I suppose it feels like you are losing your independance, Melissa.
just being outdoors and in the garden in itself is a treat, ruby. Well done you!
it was kinda embarrassing, melissa, but the people in the store were very kind and told me I was hardly the only one to cry. It makes it official, in a way, when you buy the darn thing.
it is also losing your image of yourself as you used to be. On top of things, self-sufficient, energetic. We need time to mourn that loss and to form a new self image.
hate to go, but duty calls. *hugs* for now.
Ruby, I had tried to prune a couple of trees in my gardent he other day I did about five branches and I was knackered lol. Had to come in for a rest and the next day my arms and legs were aching like mad. shows how unfit I have become.
yes zoom and I've always been fiercely so. so it's a powerful blow, to realize I simply cannot be. yes, it really did feel "official" and there it is leaning against the wall reminding me. I try to see it now as an extra leg, nothing more. I just want bionics to advance already, so I can run around without pain or thinking about it.
I have my first (and I hope, only) radiation tomorrow. Hopefully, it will help the pain ease
Have a great day, Spritey! Nice to catch up with you.
Good night sprite, lovely as always to chat with you. take car friend.
er, care. unless you need the car, then take that too.
lol
:)
bye, Sprite. You are an inspritation to those of us with health issues
and an inspiration to those of us just trying to be awesome in general. <3
It would be nice to go into a shop and look around and then say.."oh yes I will take the new titanium spine for my back please and a couple of the latest new legs you have there" lol
haha, zzoozz, ruefully
lol, yes it WOULD. I want that soo badly. I feel like we're on the cusp of so much medical wonderment in nanotech, biotech, etc. MY BODY IS READY, dang it.
Well we are all special to someone one way or another we should not be so hard on ourselves really. even though i can not help it lol
Yes it's just hard, esp. when you want to do for those who do so much for you.
I think they know that and are just glad you are there for them also. We do have memories and they know how things used to be and that you can not do what you used to do. But they still love you for who you are..after all that is why you are together in the first place :-)
Oh, Isle of Wight! Another place I'd love to visit. Wish there were a Babble cruise. :)
Believe me you do not want to visit during the winter months, Mellisa, it is rather a dull place as nothing much is open as it is very much a summer tourist place. But on the good side Winter does has less people ans stunning views when the rain stops pouring down. Of which it is raining as I speak lol
zoom, that's actually quite lovely. and I agree. my husband still sees a girl with stars in her eyes dancing around him for hours when he looks at me, not the hobbly wobbly reality.
you are fortunate, Melissa. Although it was terrible, these past two years with my deteriorating husband, I miss him, now that he's gone
Well I'm in Portland OR so dull rainy days are def something I do not require more of at the moment, lol. But a summer visit sounds fantastic. Believe it or not I know someone who lives there, so I really would love to visit. Just an online friendship, but one years long!
We were together more than 30 years!
((((ruby))) I can't imagine losing my beloved husband, esp. after so long. I am so very sorry for your loss, ruby.
I'm managing, but it's surprisingly hard, espaially now that I'm sick
Ruby, did you have the one time treatment yet?
tomorrow
I will be think of you ((Ruby))
I hope it's successful and brings you much relief, ruby.
everybody says something different regarding after-effects, so I'm scared
Good morning.
Hello, sukee :-)
Everybody says different things about after0effects, so I-m scared
morning sukee.
hello sukee
Hi Ruby, melissa
Always ask questions with the doctors, Ruby, I am sure they will be only to pleased to answer them and put your mind at rest by telling you exactly how the treament works and what the side effects will be.
I had lots of them Ruby - I reckon they saved my life. Minimal side effects even with several treatments. I am sure you will be fine
Hello, Lynxxx :-)
thank you, lynxx
So much good advice. This board is so lovely, it never ceases to surprise me how much so. :)
this room is a life-saver!
On the whole I think the babble community is a good place to be :-)
Hello Zooz, Sukee & Melissa and of course the puppies
Hello lynxxx! And hello from the two big cats currently snoozing on my legs, lol.
Hi lynxx and zoo
I so love your icon, Lynxx, it is like the dog has been caught out steling food or ripping up a bit of furniture lol

today my young Raffie is going to a specialiust to try to figure out why she's luimping. He regular vet found nothing in her x-rays
ha! looks like one of those Wegman dogs, so much personality.
Almost time for reset, will be back in a few :)
good wishes for little raffie, I hate when animals suddenly show concerning symptoms for no immediately identifiable reason.
I thought the reset time was over an hour ago!
one of my previous chows, Rufus, was in love with a Weimeraner named Victoria. He used to knock on her door and the two of them would lie down together very chastely and sweetly
that's darling, ruby. :)
And they called it puppy loooovvve!
And I'm back
lol zoom
Funny, I dreamt I got a dog last night :)
All I kept thinking was, I have to walk it now :)

that is why i use tiny url :-)
And those animals are lovely, melissa!
how could I have been here this long and not known that??
what a maroon, what a nincompoop. lol. glad you like them zoom, cute animal pics lift my mood every time.
Yes it is something therapeutic about cute animals!
I also find music lifts my mood too1
oh my zoom YES. Spotify and cute animal pics = my happy online place.
I agree, I'm on a kick of listening to Broadway soundtracks and it makes me feel good :)
And, yes, Spotify is great.
I've been listening to a lot of dreamy music, like The Association, Nick Drake, Left Banke -- if it's floaty, I'm there.
I listen to soundtracks or singers like Madeleine Peyroux and Billie Holliday. Or the Beatles, depends on my mood :)
Just youtubed Nick Drake, riverman is a nice song.
Good taste, sukee!
I need jazzy type music when I write, otherwise I get too caught up in the songs :)
Dance me to the end of love :-)
Love it.
Madeleine or Leonard Zooz?
I like both myself :)
me too :)
I like to listen to Leonard too :)
Undeath. Definitely a word, whatever Enable says. It's the state of being a zombie.
Madeleine, Kallia although I love Leonard cohen music too!
Suzzanne or bird on a wire are great.
Madeleine has a beautiful voice, so much like Billie at times.
yes, great music
LOL very true, Matty!
His version of Hallelujah almost brings me to tears.
Love KD Lang singing Hallelujah too
Yes, another great Canadian singer. She does it justice.

Have nbt.
I have been listening to more music since I got a wireless monster speaker, it hooks into my ipad and has great sound :)
Yes I have wireless speakers to my computer the sound is so much better than the crappy speakers on the laptop.
For some reason though, it won't hook into my laptop. It was working but I can't get it to connect any more.
I have wireless speakers too...much better sound....
definitely, Kallia, I would not be without them for my laptop.
Hi all
Have you googled it, Sukee, I had to pair mine up a couple of times before but I can not think how I did it now.
Hi Liz
Hi Liz.
Hello, Liz :-)
I have. When I first hooked it up it didn't work for a while and then, boom it connected. I kept trying to connect it through settings.
what make are they?
Monster
I have trouble connected through Bluetooth since I upgraded to Windows 10, that might be part of it.
But, I do have it plugged into my computer.
Ah plugged in does not give a good sound compared to wireless the bass is just not there I had found.
Are they monster superStar speakers?
yes
Oh well, I do play most of my music on my ipad

Hi kids.
Hello, Scrabs :-)
How are you today, Zooz?
I am well thanks for asking, Scrabs. How are you keeping?
Having a fun time with my sister visiting. We have snowshoed for the last 3 days.
Sounds good! Glad you are having a good time with your sister!
We have a TV program here in the UK called 'The Jump' it is TV stars doing all sorts of snow related tasks like ski jumping to mogule racing. It is fantastic to watch even though a lot of them get injured. I bet you would love it!
As in do it yourself!
I don't do risky things,but I snowshoe and cross-country ski.
You must be a very fit person to do cross-country ski-ing you need a lot of EN 9/72 to do that!
Fairly fit,but I am fat.
Does not matter what you are as long as you are happy!
I am very active in the outdoors.
I ahve been at this for hours now and down to 67 left to find. Think i will see what i can find to eat. Happy babbling all. And keep enjoying your time with your sister, Scrabs!
Have*
Bye Zooz. Enjoy your day.

well.. practice makes perfect mimi
In my case, practice just means more practice! I don't go to any list...too much bother for me. I don't have any goal...just playing for fun and the chat.
Too many goal-oriented things already.
I'm too ocd for that
Too old for what? (And I doubt it)
it's a bad addiction for me.. I have to finish the grids.
These days I'm very easy on myself and don't make "unnecessary" demands.
that's a good way to be mimi
ac8...clue please

this grid has way too many unusual words that are either foreign or specific to a subject
like that eu 7 -- to do with petroglyphs? -- like anyone would know that!
just think how it is expanding your mind, cyber!
I think hairwar should be a word -- I wage one every morning

mine is curly only because I always have to have a perm

I'm moving in slowly
Glad you found what you wanted. All the best.
well..it's a pretty rude word molly .. like the TW word that gets thrown around here a lot
thanks diane.. I'm really happy
I agree, it's a rude word when used in context. But not when it's in a word game based on definitions.
ac8?
I dunno.. it's a rude word wherever.. I wish it wasn't allowed
And yes, the tw word that means the same thing was never called into question or complained about when it was used here as a direct slam.
ac8/55 a + what a knife does + last 4 of d**** (tango, waltz etc)

lots of people seem to like him, I am not one of them
I think the only good that could ever come from him is that he would unite the rest of the world against himself
it is quite amazing
So, without fail, the boys and hubby have fallen asleep whilst I am making dinner.
sa8?
If it didn't have it all planned out, they would be barking up me arse about what's for dinner.
Tonight, I have it all planned ahead, cooking on schedule...and they are asleep.
more for you, car!
I don't eat THAT much!
I don't have the SA or any of the 8's...but I did find a 9. Huh.
they can heat up their own leftovers tomorrow ;)
hahaha blah - I was about to say the same thing
sa 9 - a fine silk fabric
I can only think of satin which of course is not 9 letters
Seriously, dinner is ready when I am done cooking it. Anyone who slacks off and sleeps while I am doing all the work can heat it up whenever their lazy, napping self decides to get up.
s + french rainbow + vowel + fisherman's tool

Did anyone wake up for dinner?
Hubby, mom and I ate. The rest is put away
I'll make meatball subs for their lunch tomorrow
First day back after vacation...I am not surprised.
Are your kids sick? Seems like an odd time for kids to be sleeping.
Both of them have horrible colds.
Zack is going on three weeks of it. Dylan had it big for two days over vacation.
Hubby has had it too
If they sleep during dinner time are they up late after that rest?
They won't be tonight. They will most likely sleep through
Oh, so they never got up after the dinner time sleep. They must really be ailing.
They are pretty wiped out. Neither slept well last night knowing they had to get up this morning.
Get up in the morning for school?
Yes. this past week was vacation
Clue please for CE 6/24?
Do they not like going to school?
They are OK about it
Both are very good students
