I totally agree, flosey!!
thanks Dee, had the word but didn't know the meaning!
nor, did I, until I checked the dictionary
as is the case with a few words in here!
again, agree!!
To look at that word it gives no clues to its meaning
sure doesn't
I would think a plant description or something along those lines.
I try to use these words as a learning tool - if I don't know what it means, I usually look it up. I always have two dictionaries open right next to Babble. I still forget all of the currencies and weights though!
I can never remember those either, kam.
Like we ever use them in real life... lol!
I certainly don't

Snack time, tonight we will be having dark chocolate and raspberries (which I paid a fortune for but they looked so good)
sounds yummy! I love both, but haven't had any chocolate in over a year. Gads, that sounds good!
Dark chocolate is very good for you and with fruut it takes away my sweet cravings. Brb
<---I don't eat chocolate
I rarely do, and only dark. I don't even like milk chocolate for some reason. Hi, Ru
I rarely do.. sometimes it will bring on a migraine.. so I'm really careful
Migraines suck. I never found my trigger, but whatever it was, I managed to cut it out when I did a massive cut to what I eat about 18 months ago.
voila, no migraines since. So, I live without a lot of things I used to eat, but I live better, and that's what counts in the long run, I think.
yeah.. that's how I look at it too
I don't drink beer for the same reason
I like brown ale. Regular beer is boring. But the ale doesn't bother me, fortunately. Neither does red wine, which I really enjoy having, especially with a good meal.
I like dark beers too.. just can't handle them though.
I do enjoy red wine.. but can't mix it without consequences
Mixing usually has consequences...ugh!
yes.. I miss the days when I could do anything I want :D
Hi Ru, so what do you eat when you get a craving for sweets?
I usually have a popsicle or fruit
I think this is the biggest babblet grid of all time
Awwwwwww ok I am better now, my itching is off the hook tonight.
itching?
My back the N.P. is bad tonight
oh.. that's an awful thing
my ex had that on occasion
Dr. Presribed some new medication and of co6/21 I have to wait for approval from insurance, but hopefully it will help.
I get the itching sometimes too, it's crazy. Especially if I try to nap in the afternoon, for some stupid, unknown reason.
that is a maddening thing
I saw my doc on the 5th, and the new Rx he ordered is waiting for me to pick up tomorrow...why do insurance companies do that? Especially with what they charge!!
Well whatever this stuff is he said dont waste it as medicare will only pay for 60 grams a year
Geez! But each Medicare Rx company covers different things. I've had to shop every year to make sure the one med I really need is covered.
oh medicare sounds like a hoot
gah! The medical coverage is decent, at least it has been good for my needs since 2000. But the Rx coverage is awful. At least they offer it now - before they offered Rx I was lucky enough to have another company covering the necessary Rx.
The insurance from my work which is still in effect is even worse for approving things, they overlap on Dr visits, procefures etc, but medications are always a fight.
Before hubby retired, I was on his policy. We got married in 2011 and he added me and I didn't pay a penny for the places that insurance covered, between the Medicare and that insurance, all I spent was $5 per med a month. The overlap can get confusing though, depending on your age and Medicare status. It really is a mess.
thankfully for now.. I don't take many medications.. mostly allergy meds
That's good though. I think everyone has allergies these days with all the stuff that gets sprayed, especially in CA agricultural areas!
I only take a few pain meds rarely, and mine are mostly ointments for Ls and NP thank goodness I would go nuts if I had to fight for any more.
Ru, do you use local honey?
sort of mel
when the farmer's markets are going
It has been proven to help with allergies.
We're lucky to be rural. Local honey is sold all over! I love buying direct from the beekeepers!
my new neighborhood doesn't have many olive trees so that's going to help me
do you have to comb the area for beekeepers Kama :D
Are you all moved in now?
Lol!
no.. i'll be in on the 20th
They all advertise on Facebook, plus sell at the feed store and a lot of other local stores.
Haha
bought some new furniture today for the house though with a friend
Oh?
A bed for the guest room and a new living room couch and a new kingsize bed for my room
Nice, I need a new mattress but iget so confused when I go look. I think I am just going to get another pillow top Serta
just get a really knowledgeable sales guy mel.. that really helps.
I gave up on new pillow tops. I think we need a new mattress, the one we're both getting back pain from is over 15 years old, and I think it's time to try something else.
I am getting a king-size bed for me and the two dogs :D
eventually they'll get kicked out of bed though :D
I looked at the sleep number beds, thinking they would be good for when my Fibro is bad I can adjust accordingly. I really need to talk to someone who actually has one.
That's what we need! We have a queen and a Springer Spaniel. He's a pillow lover - sometimes I jump in bed so quickly I surprise myself - I want to beat him to the pillows! I need them under my knees and he wants to be right on them!
Sure they will, you will be on the couch and the dogs will be in the bed.
ha.. I went out on my first date recently
I started reading reviews on those sleep number beds last week. It's confusing. If they're just air mattresses, I don't know that they'd hold up to the dog!
I wonder where Rose is, I hope she is ok
I'm doing a real mattress
Oooooo do tell, how did the date go?
rose waits for sprite mostly
You mean your first recent date? You can't convince me you never had a date before, lol!
That was through the realator right?
...waiting for details...
it was really nice.. she was nice and very talkative.. she actually did most of the talking. we had a nice dinner and the restaurant took really great care of us we closed the place :D
YesKam, that is what I mean about confusing.
my first date since my divorce kama
I hope she is a word lover, lol
it's taken me a while to get ready to date
sounds like it went quite well, ru
You had dates every night mostly with all your babble ladies :p
it was really nice.. I wasn't nervous at all
:D mel@
Good
Well, I'm glad you did it Ru! Sounds like you enjoyed it, or you two wouldn't have closed the place.
I wasn't facing the restaurant and eventually I got up to use the restroom and saw the restaurant was empty Duh-oh
My fear of dating is how do I explain sudden itchy urgings that make rub my back on a corner or grab ink oens or whatever to itch lol
At least the server didn't approach and tell you they closed an hour ago...(assuming at my own risk)
Gads, I am SO lucky I met my hubby. We're both older and broken, and he is so sweet when I can't manage things. And if he can't manage, we hire a friend's kids for yard work. He's been doing REALLY well this year - on new meds for his PD, and they seem to help him a lot.
what's PD?
Parkinson's
oh
that's good news that they have better medicines for that
I am struggling with K words
I did a benefit for the Michael J Fox foundation a year ago
He's still dependent on the same med they used in the 60s. The newest thing is the brain implant. Now, THAT is scary stuff. His neuro recommended, but he said no way, not yet.
Yes my uncle has PD and has improved on whatever new meds they are giving him.
Cool, Ru, thank you! Research seems to be stuck a bit lately. A couple of newish things, but still in trials and not available.
it did raise a lot of money over $100K
Hubby just got the dosage corrected and got his diabetes under control. But he bought cookies the other day again, grrr!
Nice!
Great, Ru!! They do a lot of good research, it's just so slow when dealing with neuroreceptors. They're finding a different spot in the brain can affect it too, I don't remember all the details, just read the article last week though.
Brb dog wants out.
I'm trying to get down to 50 here
this grid has a heck of a lot of words I've had to look up - old coinage, weights and measures, alternate spellings...I want to finish, but am getting sleepy. 29 left.
I also am striking out on the k
i have two k words
I finally got 4, only 2 I've seen before. I had to break down and list. I like to wait till I'm at least to 80%, but broke down tonite at 78.
The cat sat on the enter key, lol
i think I'll stop at 55 to go for now.. nice chatting with you kama.. glad you're doing better
Good night Ru, sweet dreams, go to bed no sleeping in the chair, lol
Thanks, good chatting with you too. One K is Japanese syllabic script - like I know anything about Japanese! Sweet dreams!
night mel.
I'm tired now
Mel, I'm saying night too. I'm only on the Os, 26 left and frustrated with this grid. Need to get up early, so need sleep!
Ok Kam sweet dreams see you tomorrow :)
>Good morning
good morning all
((sprite))
*hugs ruby* Hello darling, how are you holding up?
I finally have my laptop back, so I'm back in the game YAY
Waiting for this elusive spring
yayyy :)
the bulbs are all budded, just need a couple of warm days as it's still freezing at night
spring is definitely on its inmarch
How about you? How has the wintr been with all the rain and grey skies?
and emotionally, ruby? How are you doing?
depressed but fighting it
the winter hasn't been wintry much here. Wet, wet, wet. And yes, grey grey grey too. We have a bit of freeze in the nights now, and some sun in the days.
and hoping that the radiation will help the pain, but so far, no change
you are one helluva strong puppie, ruby *hugs*
similar to here
the snowbirds were disappointed as there was much less snow than usual
pain is a lady dog for sure. Will send up some more prayers to the Big Guy to help you heal.
Was there enough ice to skate this year?
oh no, not by a long shot. And no snow at all. Well, wet snow. But nothing that stayed for more than an hour.
isn't ka4/8 a Dutch word?
yes :) Dutch for cheese.
ks killed
<-- not even close, but it's so nice to be back!
it is great to have you back
the other evening I tried to play but couldn't see well and everybody sweetly used caps for me
strange that you can have ga6/27 person who but not the plural.
aw that is so sweet
brb, nature calls
ciao, for now
back
oops, just saw my mistep, second breakfast in th pb?
lol :)
{{hugs}} and good morning my darling friend sprite
{{hugs}} et bonjour ma cherie amie, ruby
*hugs rose* Hello my darling, lovely to see you. How was your day?
*giggle* i am exhausted. have only just finished dinner and it is after 9pm.
wow :D
started with doing the dishes, then wrote the shopping list (and you know what that entails), then sorted, folded and ironed yesterdays washing, then for 3 hours was out supporting church's fundraising effort.
good grief, rose! Will you please slow down a little and not overdo stuff? :)
that's too much in one day!
we did half the shopping on the way home, called in at the church where we had "happy" hour to destress from the stall.
but, but, .....this is the old rose..... firing on all 8 cylinders.... lolll
I know, it is an awesome feeling. But darling, slow down, ok? Your body is not the old rose body, and you need to pace yourself. Even when you feel like flying.
my muscles are aching, but in a good way.
*giggle* you mean i'm not flying?? *woeful face*
harsh fact of life: when we humans feel like we are flying, it means we are falling...
and ruby, did you see my greeting to you? it's amazing what comes back to you!!
no, rosie, I came here first, willlook when I take a break
I have to be off for now, alas. Big *hug* for the two of you. Rose, sleep well and try to do a little less. Ruby, have a grand day and be gentle with yourself.
xx, sprite
xoxox sprite. did you finish already?
WTG SPRITE !!!!
ruby?? you still here honey??
more or less.
I had a great, active day on Thurs and then immediately went to pièces.
*smiling at you* i have to go sweetie. i am sooo tired. love you honey.
The radiation has done nothing, so far, except make me sleep more
bye, sweetie, "see you" soon
that could be a good sign ruby. of course it tires you out. sleep and rest as much as you need to do. your body will tell you. just listen to it.
bye
Good morning all.
sukee, are you still here?
I am here :)
How are you? I have my laptop back at last!
I am doing well, glad to hear about your laptop
I read you are going through radiation. I went through that almost 19 years ago now.
It was driving me crazy, a month "in the shop" and I couldn't play in front of the fire or in bed
So far, it hasn't done anything for the pain
I would go into serious withdrawal :)
Hopefully, the relief will start soon.
do you mind my asking, what kind of cancer was it?
I had breast cancer.
They just did a lumpectomy and I went through chemo and radiation.
me, too, adenocarcinoma, qnd it is bqck after 25 yrs, not tumors in bone
it was stage 2A but besides radical surgery, they only did strong chemo
Not good.
didn't even suggest radiation, which might have prevented th recurrence
But think of how far they have come in just 20 years in terms of treatments.
That might be.
yes, they say that although it is not operable or curable this time, it is treatable
I'm pretty discouraged, though
Well, we will definitely hope for the best I am sure it is discouraging, I would not want to deal with cancer a second time.
I was braver then, now I just feel old
Finally, I blocked on tile out :)
Hang in there, we are all rooting for you.
Thank you, that is very kind
That is, I blocked one tile out.
I have 136 words but very few blocked out tioles and no 9
I just have 105 so far.
I think I've only found the low-hanging fruit
Yes, the longest word I have is 1 7 letter word.
Hah, I have one 8 (she says smugly)
:)
This is a very hrd grid for me (I never even finish the easier ones)
goodie, my lunch is arriving
Have a good one.
totally weird lunch: mackerel appetizer, mystery meat (rabbit?), aulifower, mystery cheese and chocae cake
Well, I hope you enjoy it anyway :)
the dogs and the delivered meals keep me going, otherwise, I'd probably just stay in bed
It's good to have a reason, any reason. I have the cats and my trips to the gym :)
are you able to drive?
Finally half way.
No, I never learned to drive.
I grew up in Toronto where you didn't have to.
Now I take a mobility bus service that give me door to door service.
I know many people in NY who never had to learn. I only learned after I moved to Illinois. Now I cn't drive because of the morphine
I've often though of buying an adult tricycle :)
I have to rely on friends and paid help to shop and drive me
Well, I have to make some breakfast. My stomach is making all sorts of noises :)
that's a funny idea. Would it be motorized?
Luckily here, I can get my groceries delivered to the door. I order them online.
You can get motorized ones :)
Nice talking with you, sukee
You take care, I might be back soon :)
bye for now
hi all
bye all
any words
??
Good day to all.
you too
Hi Ray. Are you new to Babble? Welcome.
scrabbler, are you alone here? Iusually lurk but sometimes say something. Just wanted to say you are one I admire--your good advice to people, thoughtfulness, etd. I have a camp in Vermont so go near you in sukker but am not driving now.
I also had house rabbits, wrote a story about them once.
will go back to lurking. Aalso, too hard a grid today. I'kk get to work. Poof!
Hi RB, I love seeing you here.
Hi cousin
Thanks. I can still see the chat. I like your medical advice to people. and snowshoeing.
coda
sorry
wrote down xomething you said the other day--I think it was you. Kids beig--feeling entitled.
Hi cousin, TY for the free clue. I am not liking this grid.
no, it's slow going, hello RB
Cousin Earth and I snowshoed with my 2 sisters last Sunday and we had FUN! It was a tough workout.
I was sore for 2 days. My body did not want to do Tai Chi that Monday
RB, after 28 years in practice I see the decay of families and parenting, and the sad effects on kids.
Yes, me too, cousin, and my blisters are healing.
RB, the most beautiful round barn I first saw was at Shelburn Farm in Burlington, VT.
I rejoiced in your sister(s) being there, didn't know abt the cousin--hello, earth. yes, scrabbler, my daughetr gave good parenting, her husband didn't--they were divorced, and he committed suicide. My grandson has been being treated for trauma, long trips to a clinic, but he's back in school now and doing better. So I've been very concerned about th kids, and mu daughter coping while working full time.
So many kids must deal with such trauma in their lives and often with so very little emotional support from their parents who also cannot cope with life.
How very sad RB.
I also have a camp on a jewel of a lake 15 miles from Burtlington--I'm now too old to be there alone and so have been casting around for friends who might come for a day, or more. We're close to the foot of Camels Hump. I can't climb it any more (getting too old). So if any of the Scrabs clan wants to come to Vermont this summer, let me know. Free vacation! I'm not sure any of mu kids will make it.
We see kids being raised by grandparents due to parents with drug problems or being in prison or just disappearing.
We are going to the Adirondacks in July--Earth and youngest sister. Last October all 3 sisters and 2 cousins were in Adirondacks in October and boy, did we have fun.
My grandson found the body, so his trauma is worse than his sister's. He was 12, now 13. Opted out of life himself, retreated to his room and electronic games. But being with 12 kids 8 hrs a day (near Milwaukee) has helped. He's back in school and so far getting good grades. We are hopeful. I nearly moved up there.
Oh, no, that is SO terrible, so traumatic.
Biut that's enugh on that. I'm trying to finish the final volume of Round Barn saga, and it's had too many interruptions. So I'll quit babble now and get back to work--but I do watch youall, and enjoy your actvivities--the words that come up on babble make my mind go all over the world, and I'm usually ready for the dya.--Yes, it was, is, for Wyatt. This day-clinic was for kids with trauma. 12 in the group. I think it helped him to get some perspective, not want to throw away his own life.
Bye RB will be thinking of you and your family
earth, greetings, are you new here and a friend of Scrabs
Bye, RB. Good luck with the writing.
hi all.
Earth is my cousin. She usually doesn't chat.
Hi mixi
hi mixi
Hi Bichon, and mix, I normally lurk, Scabs is my cousin
ok, never heard her mention you before
hello, Bichon, I watch you too. You've been to iceland, I think--Earth, looked up your profile. You like to read, look at my site--www.roundbarnstories. They are good reading, and my life work--besides family and teaching.
I will not stay here long as I need to go into town to shop.
OK I will
hi earth. audree is my aunt. now in alzheimer care.
ty RB. Yes, went to Ice;and earlier this month
I followed your adventures. Aand now I really gotta quit and get to work. I've enjpyed this chat--I usually lurk.
I'm going to vermont in august for a cousinly reunion.
I"m on Lake Iroquois near Burlingtom. Have had a camp there for 50 years! Kids don't want me to sell it, so I guess I'll keep on paying the big taxes and leave it to them to cope with eventually!.
I think the reunion is on South Hero Is.
The lowlands. The Islands are lovely.
been on north hero about 30-40 years ago.
and now really to work. Goodby, babble friends.
bye.
Bye Rb, I gotta run too.
And I am going into town to shop. Bye.
fancy car in the grid-Porsche
morning, luv - now i have janis joplin in my head, "my friends all have porsches, i must make amends..." :)
lol love that song, it reminds me of my high school days listening with my friends!
"worked hard all my lifetime, no help from my friends".. lol , am singing it too. Hi all
morning all. I love Janis Joplin too
and good morning
they have a tribute concert called "A Night With Janis Joplih" coming to my area next weekend and I keep thinking about going but when the fees are added to the ticket price it's a little expensive
"Oh Lord won't you buy me a color TV...I wait for delivery each day until 3"
go anyway, luv - worth it to treat yourself
hi owl, aloy, peri, everyone
can't belive the fees on a $30 dollar ticket are about $14 dollars! Ridiculous
<---actually saw Janis in concert with Big Brother and the Holding Company
*shrug* we've pissed away more on less - go enjoy yourself
hi welk
that's an awesome memory ruru!
paint me green.. lucky ruru
one of the benefits of growing up in SF
hi ru - i grew up in nyc, so went to a few goodies too
I've saved all my concert tickets and can't belive how much the prices have gone up. My kids didn't get to go to concerts like I did when I was their age because it's so darn expensive
did you ever go to Fillmore East?
concerts now are ridiculous
yep - saw lots of bands - jefferson airplane, jethro tull
-ly expensive
best venue for me was central park ;)
jethro tull is one of my favorites too welki, saw them several times
pink floyd at the fillmore, too
Me too.. I used to go to the Fillmore at least once a month sometimes every weekend
I have a lot of the old handbills and posters
i think tull might have even opened for them - i can remember is ian anderson playing the flute, balanced on one foot
boy, i'm old
me too
first concert I went to was Bob Seger and during "Turn the Page" Alto Reed, the sax player was on a wire in a harness and swung out over the audience playing his sax while doing a flip. Great first concert to go to!
Tull opened for pink floyd? What a show!
ohhhh, love that song, turn the page
luv, i have a recollection of that - might be flawed. was the 60s, after all
lol
I think Cream was my first concert
that's a great one too ruru
Saw several Jefferson airplane free concerts in Golden Gate park
*ah..memories*
<--was then and still is a huge eric Clapton fan
my first concert was James Taylor. still my favorite concert that i've attended.
first was easter at the brooklyn fox theater. welk would rememberthose murry the k shows.
he still has a nice voice hurshy
hehe - murray the k
JT was outside on grass on a summer evening. i think that is a big part of why i enjoyed it more than other concerts.
yes, ruru, he does - and, some really good stuff on his newest album
the headliner was mitch ryder but there was this crazy band from england...they smashed a guitar...
come north, hurshy, he'll be here in june :)
which province, welki?
morning all! can I have some help with the top row I?
really, owl? you talking about a tall lanky guy with vocal range?
alberta, hursh
may be...
working on that myself dan! i have io5/14, but not the other
ty hursh!
wow owl - and they opened for ryder?
i've monkeyed everything that looks like a word, now i'm on to things that do not look like a word...
no, the show was a revue. mitch was , i guess, the headliner
new word: IDOANA. what a toddler says when you say it's bedtime.
lol
the other I is io 8
could we have a clue, ru ?
io + much of weed + to err in front of god
definitely doesn't look like a word, ty ruru
weed like marijuana or weed like dandelion ?
pot
the former
fw.. it is a pigment in the retina.. one of a number I looked up today. Must run, folks, see you next grid. Poof
nice, alo
ty ruru
finding c's and p's are not easy
Ha just found a word for the fee charged for opening wine in a restaurant.
I'm sure you will find all the c's and p's Ru. With aplomb. : D
... and don't forget what happens if you open two bottles
do you know what they call it when you bring in a twist top bottle zooz?
no?
a screwage
LOL
I just can't stomach these p's molly
I still need four more Ps :-(
They have a very oppressive nature, Ru.
Opens the PB bar in case Ru gets any more for his "count".
the k's are no picnic
i have ka4x2, ka6 & 7
just finished the u
they're all ka hursh
more 4's?
KA 4 And a KA5 you are missing, hurshy.
They are not related either.
boo
For the 4 try a double vowel.
good morning, everyone
hi nan
Hello, Nan :-)
elide the australian marsupial
thanks
The five ends in a jumping australian animal.
woohoo, thank you to A Few Good Men for ac8
I wonder if there is any way that Dr G could limit this game to english only -- including the elimination of obscure medical and scientific terms?
sc 6/27 clue please
even if he could, he wouldn't
he won't even bring back the chat button
a few good men?
What with some people wanting swear words omitted too these grids will be getting smaller and smaller!
a few good men - the movie with tom cruise, jack nicholson, demi moore...
chat button<?
years ago, there was a button "click to enter chat", and nobody ever accidentally put words in the chat...
that's find with me, zoom -- yesterday's grid was great -- real english words for a change
not sure I ever saw the movie and certainly don't see a connection with an ac 8
when he switched it and people started accidentally putting words in the chat, he said, people will get used to it and that will stop after awhile. HA.
was that pre-scrabbler and angelsong :D
I remember that now, hurshy -- it was quite a while ago
idk, i can't keep track of when everyone started playing! lol
<-- still thinks you probably can't get more bang for your buck than babble
MOST people have forgotten even if they WERE here when we had the button. but hurshy will never forget!!!
Agreed, Welki!
so much has changed - certainly don't remember grids with all these strange words in the beginning
oh i feel there have always been strange words
Hi All
can't find my last two c's.. gggggggggggrrrr
hey hego
Hello, Hego :-)
hi hego
Hiya :)
your sister is in the grid again hego..
ad 7 please?

ad7 is a fancy word for fat
and a cute lil alien MADE of fat, on doctor who
ty Hursh
AD + vowel + strike a (Madonna)

pi 9 was called last night, ru

Ru, if you find the Pi 9 could you give me a nudge towards it please :-)
I'm still trying to understand the ad clue.
fatty tissue is called ad 7 36
AD + vowel + a pocket full of ***** ( nursery ryhme) ring a ring of
it is very similar to what welki just posted zooz pi 9
I found pi7/8 but not the pi9
it is a bull fighting assistant
Oh haha nice one thank you, Welki & Ruru!
I'm sure it's a goring job most of the time

I just have a little one for my family room..hardly any living room furniture. going to be costly I think
yes.. a distressed leather look.. it's beautiful
But fun!
comfy too
Leather is wonderful and lasts forever.
like the look -- but it's not very comfortable in summer when one is wearing shorts!
we won't have leather seats in our cars for the same reason
car seats aren't real leather.
It doesn't matter if it's real or not, it still is not comfortable when you're wearing shorts.
I never had that problem with my leather sofa.
and I think there is a difference.
you must have AC running all the time, hego
lol. That may be the reason.

I don't really get how there are 231 words in this thing
Kaplan me either
I usually scope it out in the morning to see if it is big or not, and glancing at this, I would have thought about 100.
