Most of my papers in high school and college were very pleonastic before I edited them down.
Awwwww, won't take taebo. Darn the luck.
woohoo i found an 8
lot of interesting words in this one!
So far I have found two elements.
oooh a spelling bee word from the 5th grade
snarf isn't a valid word? >:O
No, but b--f apparently is.
lol thanks :)
I like this one much better than yesterday's
Won't take sonora.
Couple of snakes in the puzzle.
I've already beat my score from yesterday, hah!
I've found one snake
Won't take afro!!
found a 9
Riff, you must have found a different snake than mine, 'cause it woun't take mine.
OK, I found one and its plural.
just got that too
Without trying, I found a completely different spelling for a very common seed. Gonna give a clue one this one, its the same seed as a children's show. But a waaaaaaaay different spelling. Doesn't even start with the same letter. Good luck.
thanks mujer and dictionary.com!
Arg!! Won't take banc!!
My pleasure ;)
Isn't that seed word out of nowhere?! Alas, I must retire for the evening. Time for shower, then bed. Sweet reveries.
me too, 76 words/4.63/854, I'm outtie
Woohoo.. my first 9!
126/1869 there must be lots here
136/1977 back later to see how many I have missed
it won't take sorbonne? >:P
finally got the other snakes
What was the 6 letter tree from yesterday? Looked in some word lists and still couldn't see it LOL
pinier
oh that was a tree was it LOL I had it all the time and didn't realise
hooya, my first 9 too =)
Is the 9 a compound word???
Can you believe the number of B words???? I just spent about 5 minutes on the B and found 36 words that start with it. I'm sure that's not all of them, but I was seeing them faster than I could type them in! Atalante - I assumed it meant "more like a pine" but didn't actually look it up to find out. :)
gah! I've only got 35 LOL
yes atlante, a compoundword, the one I found anyway
I seem to suck at A words, all the time =(
My 9 is a verb
It´s a compound and a verb at the same time
Oh I see what you mean, it's a verb derived from a compound! LOL - I thought you meant a compound word as in one composed of 2 words, like voiceless the other day, which it isn't. Atalante, have we confused you yet? LOL!
But it's not derived from a compound. Rather, from an element.
What does the element/compound start with??
*utterly confused* LOL
LOL, the first part of the word is indeed an element, but the action of the verb is to add a compound to something - there is another element involved! Never thought my biochemistry degree would come in handy here, LOL. This is of course assuming that we've all got the same one!
oh ick ... *bangs head* .... that was so obvious
LOL Atalante, not helping much, are we :o)
Out of 139 words for 1831 points I have: 24x6 6x7 0x8 1x9 I know that there is an 8 out there, but I think I'm missing some other big words based on earlier posted scores. I have more words but fewer points. Anyone have more high-letter words than those?
starting letter for the 9 verb??
7x7
oops I mean 8x7
It won't take utero :o( Well I don't care, my baby is still "in utero", but not for much longer!
hmmmm actually there are 3 elements ... anyone got any more?
Cissi - I was just about to make the same comment - there a quite a few Latin words it won't take, tho..another one here is 'bono'
Is taebo a proper noun? This dictionary drives me batty - so arbitrary.
Nope, 3 here also. And funny - two of the elements can be made into longer words by adding the same 3 letters on the end. One is the 9 and another is a 7. Cool!
Tae Bo is a proper noun, registered trademark I'm sure, and two words.
Since when is FRANCE not a valid word?
Since it is a proper noun. ;)
ah ha! thanks.
I have 10 7's if that is any help
Thanks a lot mellowmasher! Now we all just have that much more work to do. ;) (No, it really is a help - thanks!) Wanna share starting letters? I have 9xA 39xB 23xC 3xE 8xF 8xN 4xO 17xP 16xR 16xS 3xT
sorry only meant to help I see you have more of some and I have more of some letters so will keep looking
I was kidding - it's always best to have the most up to date info. Gives a good challenge to the puzzle. :)
hey no offence taken love to see what others have even helps thanks
I love the starting letter clues but I hate comparing because it seems I am behind on every single letter! Today tho I have 10xF and 19xP, so it's not all bad. 3 of my P's are 7 letters too.
Just found the nine; no eight yet though, and only a few sevens.
Does anyone have any words beginning with U or I?
dont leave us hanging give us a hint on the elements please
You mean finding the elements up front? All three are pretty common words. There is one of each for 4, 5 and 6 letters. The 5 & 6 can also be pluralized in this puzzle to give a 6 & 7. You can find a periodic table of the elements online by doing a yahoo search. It may help. ;)
I guess one of the elements would be less widely-known than the other two. But it is a main ingredient in a pretty commonly used generic multi-purpose cleaner.
128-1730 not bad
All 3 of the elements can be made plural.
How could France not be a word???????
It's a proper noun ;)
Go figure ;) lol
42 x B
151/2177 how is everyone else doing?
19 x P
I have 5 words starting with T. Looking for that 3rd E is killing me however.
do u have the 4-letter "love" word for 'e'??
hope it helps I have 6 t's 20 p's 12 f's and 40 b's
4 x E
I have the 4 letter love word for e. That's just how my mind works I guess. I was one of the first words I found. hee hee. *blush*
thought maybe that was the 3rd one fnurt couldn't find..now there are 4? guess I'd better get looking?
Yay, I got the 9, I feel all bubbly!!! :-P
OK, I've tried to break down what I have into generalized groups (the #'s do not reflect any variations of the words): alphabet: 1 animals: 2 (other than snakes) clothing: 1 drink: 1 elements: 3 food: 6 money: 1 musical instuments: 1 snakes: 1 (would not accept sonora) Anyone have anymore?
now I have 5 e's. HEHE
morning all at that place we call work..will try my hand for 5 minutes then i must spreadsheet....
I have 2 musical instruments. One is easy, one is quite obscure.
I've got the obscure instument (by dumb luck). What muscial instument group is the other one in?
I found the nauseous word but am totally stumped on the elements
All three elements are pretty early in the periodic chart. Obviously there are no elements with the suffix -ium in this puzzle.
woot found the 3 elements..apparently the brain is on today
High front on the motor skills, eh?
I KEEP TYPING IN WORDS AND IT WONT PUT THEM UP - EVEN WORDS THAT ARE OBVIOUSLY OKAY. i WONDERED WHY SO MANY WORDS ON OTHER LISTS I COULDVE SWORN I HADNT MISSED OUT. BLASTED PUZZLE ISNT PUTTING THEM IN. IVE PUT IN ONE WORD EIGHT TIMES - IT WONT SHOW UP!!!!
Talk to the Enable dictionary. In my opinion, they are waaaay lacking in vocabulary.
we have a high on the motor skills front however a low on the verbal skills front cuz it just took me a minute to type this...the brain is going faster than the handss.......aahahahah
finally.... i feel elemental
hey granadan i've had the same problem for the last two puzzles
kk joke from my cheese stick... Why do cats bathe themselves immediatly after they eat? will work for 5 minutes then post the punchline
I cannot believe I just found a word for a sport that I used to participate in for fun. Kudos for me!!
Woot!!!! Got the 8 :)
I just found an 8 too. It's a science word.
and someone has just unwittingly given a clue to the 8 ;)
Granadan - What words are you not getting it to take? Remember that it will not take foreign words (usually, there have been exceptions), proper nouns, anything hyphenated or with an apostrophe. mulhermujer - I have two snakes, plus one of them can be pluralized. I also have two articles of clothing, though one is not worn so much any more. I have at least 8 food items. Those are the ones that are actually food. There are some others that are food-related.
Ok so punchline.. So predators do not come after them
<me shaking head> Back to my corner....
mellowmasher - you asked how we all were doing? 154/2122 more words, fewer points I've got to start searching for big words, and you for small ones. :D
mulher is the other snake one we have here? i found the short word one
Got the snake that can be pluralized. The clothing I have is an unmentionable. I found another food after I made my list, an alternative to a food that many women are addicted to, including myself. <hint, hint, Tolinya ;)
I have the three elements, but can't expand the two; have the two musical instruments, a tree, nine foods and two animals.... but snakes? they're hiding.
One snake must be pluralized in order to work with this game. The other clothing article I have is more from the 1800s and would be visible to others when worn.
The snake I have can been seen at our zoo, probably. But its not native to the southwest. They come from the other side of the world.
Christine - Start by trying to expand on the longest element. It's the more common word of the two that can be expanded. Unless you're pregnant. ;) Then start with the shortest element.
got the plural snake then just need the other one...got the article of clothing..food me? oh wait i just thought of it...
got it..but they're BAD
thank you very much jlm got the 9 for 76
Christine - your tree is the one Ithink I was talking about being an alternative food.
hey i've got 11 b's not bad....
169 words 4.92 2447 Here is my alpha breakdown so far: 12xA 41xB 23xC 6xE 12xF 1xI (that's 'eye') 7xN 3xO 20xP 19xR 18xS 6xT I think this is a bigger solution -there must be at least 200 words or more.
41 B's?!? Jeez, I thought I was doing well with 22. Gots a long way to go...
mulhermujer - I've recounted my words in your categories. Here's what I have: money - 2 (one is obscure) animal - 2 (one is obscure) food - 10 (one is the seed mentioned much earlier) drink - 1 (though there is another that is a drink item in another language) alphabet - 1 clothing - 2 element - 3 instrument - 2 (one is obscure)
So, adding up what others have posted so far there are at least: 12xA 42xB 24xC 6xE 12xF 1xI (eye) - very impressed claws! 8xN 4xO 20xP 19xR 18xS 6xT So at least 172 words.
I'm pretty close to that. I'm missing one clothing (the 1800's one), one money, 3 foods, and one instument. I'm a huntin'....
jlm_mi - both your animals non-ruminants?
there is a word that is the color of a horse
150/2018 and thats enough for me
121 words 5.08 1964
Have the color of a horse, and I just got the other waaaaay common instument. Double kudos for moi :)
mulhermujer - Honestly, not quite sure. I'm pretty sure that one is non-ruminant. The other is more obscure, but it could go either way since I'm not familiar with it. And I'm not including the color of the horse in my count, even though a horse of that coloring would go by that name typically.
The obscure animal is a type of small buffalo. Do they chew cud?
jlm_mi - both of mine are, so your two are probably the same. I looked them up. Still huntin' for that other darn snake!
In its non-plural form, how many letters does your snake have? Oh, and my two other animals are 4 letters each, though the obscure one has a plural form also.
Buffalo are ruminant. They chew cud. The obscure one I have is not so much that the animal is obscure, but its a not so common name. Gotta go, the kid is up. laters!!
wow, it accepts the name of a popular gas medicine lol
Thanks nutkin! Didn't have that one yet. ;) But by definition it is a form of bingo as well as a medication. mulhermujer - I must be missing an animal then. One of mine is definitely a buffalo.
DOH!! Cant believe it took me till now to see the 9 :o :O Yayyy 2080 :) Onwards and sidways lol
Oh, I really need someone to review my list... I find I have three snakes (okay, a couple are pluralized), three articles of clothing, two monies or money-related. The elements all end with the same letter? so there are only two letters that could start the 'add-on'. I dunno, if I called Marianne in UK, it'd be 7pm... and if I were a drinking woman
JLM_MI wOULDNT TAKE CARE OR CARER. nOW IM HAVING TO GO BACK OVER EVERYTHING TO SEE IF ITS ACCEPTED THEM OR JUST NOT BOTHERED. tHIS IS GOING TO TAKE EVEN LONGER IF I HAVE TO DO IT DAILY NOW!
Christine - I have two different kinds of snake, but 3 words out of them. One singular, one its plural, and the third is the plural of another snake. The elements all end in the same letter, but you have to pick which location within the grid. They could be made ending at different locations. And the longest element word combines with the ending to give you the 9. I only have two articles of clothing. Are all of yours commonly known, or are any obscure words? Also two money words here.
granadan - That's strange! So it's not that the words aren't in the dictionary, but just that you're not able to get the puzzle to accept them. Weird!
i have: 4s - 65 5s - 47 6s - 36 7s - 12 8s - 3 9s - 1
i might have lost count a little on the 4s and 5s
nutkin - I was having enough trouble finding 1 8. Now you say there are 3????? It's gonna be a long day . . . LOL I have: 76x4 47x5 26x6 9x7 0x8 1x9 Looks like you have a few 4-letter words to go, but I'm missing the big ones big time.
jim-mi - sometimes I think I have tunnel vision... I placed the words in one part of the grid, then my brain refused to see they could be placed elsewhere.... oh me, oh my.. granadam - keep trying, sometimes you ccan sneak a word in, after it has OOOPSed you.
So did you find it Christine? Well, we've got lots of hints floating around for the 9. Anyone want to help with the 8s? Nothing too obvious, just a nudge in the right direction. I've seen below that one is scientific. So far, not very helpful. ;)
Doh - I had the third article of clothing all along. Just skipped over it when I was categorizing. This is something I wear every day, but only at home.
clues for the 8s (had to use the dictionary because one doesn't mean what i thought it did): repetition; pilot; bacteria
Thanks nutkin. That should be a good start. :)
I've been trying to do something like the pilot one all day and couldn't quite make it work. Finally got it!
And I really feel like a dolt for not getting it sooner. My job/degree is in that type of engineering. Doh!
There are at least 13 A words.
a double r would be most useful
i have 16
That would be 16 A's?
a - 16 b - 37 c - 21 e - 4 f - 13 i - 1 n - 6 o - 7 p - 17 r - 15 s - 19 t - 8
I'm off to have a tuna melt at a friend's house -- and maybe get her hooked on BABBLE in repayment <evil grin>
mulher guess what i forgot this morning???? something to transfer the liquids into...i'm using a dr pepper bottle....
tuna melt?? UGUUGUGUGUGU have fun! definatly get her hooked..always nice payback
nutkin - You had more than others have posted for some letters and fewer for others. Here's my latest compilation of the statistics posted. There are at least this many words starting with each letter: 16xA 42xB 24xC 6xE 13xF 1xI 8xN 7xO 20xP 19xR 19xS 8xT Tuna melt. Yummmmmm.
just plain tuna BARF gonna get me a chinese chicken salad...yummers
Hey Tolinya - you just gave away a word. ;)
HAHAHA I didn't even have that word!!! Now that's funny
tuna and cheese don't sound good
Naw, it was given away at 12:50am (chat log time). ;) There are at least 21 P words.
whew...lol
nutkin - does the repetition 8 have to do with a French word?
Thanks for the hints on the eights; I got two of them. Still looking for the bacteria one though.
Tolinya - A Dr. P bottle? There's your million dollar idea, Dr. Pepper flavored milk. Sure to be a hit with all the kids.
oh ick....
it was a choice between...the dr pepper bottle..an open 32 oz cup (no lid) ...or my tupperware container that I had cottage cheese in....
ok those clues for the 8's...yeah not very helpful. i tried to think of different words for each of then when i walked over to get my salad at craberry...
Ta-da! I used the U! Not to start a word, but I used it Neener, neener ;)
The U is in one of the 8s :o)
jlm_mi - Then I must be missing an animal as well, 'cause I don't have a buffalo. I did just find an animal related word. Te-hee
ok 2 animals 2 description of an animal 1 product from an animal and 1 stinking snake....
I don't have an animal product....*on search mode* PS, the child is screaming, crying, and oh so very tired.
oh yeah and this just makes my day...the purse that i hate..yeah someone offered me $$ for it so i get to buy a new one!!!YEAHHHHHH i'm going shopping i'm going shopping <doing the cabbage patch>
is he hungry? motrin his butt
The one that I handed you this morning?
Is the animal product a food? I've got two foods that come from animals.
Sorry for all the non-Babble talk... He's fed till he refused any more, had 3 oz of milk, water, bathed, and a diaper change. I was planning to give him his antibiotic at 1pm. Can I give the Motrin at the same time?
oh ok now see i'm missing 1..yes the 1 i've got is a measly 4 letter product now must find the other one..is it a 4 letter?
oh yeah...definatly the dosage says like every 4-6 hours...so i say he's screaming..go for it.. what about naners? did he have any of those? or his fish? (at least he'd be quiet for 10 minutes) you want me to come home early? I CAN
So far, all my foods are non-animal. *still searching*
One of the snakes is also an article of clothing/accessory (though not one you see very often).
Tolinya - My second animal product (a food also) is 5 letters, and can be pluralized for 6 letters. It starts with the same letter as my 4-letter animal product, but comes from a different farm animal.
it's really simple..don't search too hard....think about buffalo
yup got that snake need the other one
After you left I cut up the banana slices into quarters, and cut up a few blueberries, and gave him one fish. He sucked on them all at some point, but did not swallow anything. So I've been sticking to the fruit puree. Its the whole breathing thing. Back in a sec, gonna med the kid.
Good point, runningforhome. Hadn't noticed that link! The other snake is relevant to health insurance for some in the US.
don't forget the decongestant..she yells from far away....
did ya get the fish related item?
i've got 18 b's lol...only 24 left ROFL
I have three words that could be related to fish. One is a place where fish would live (4 letters). The second is more fishing related. And the third is the same as the second with a prefix on it.
Cool - I just found a 6-letter narcotic!
k got the longer fish word...and the related..need to find the living place
Tolinya - I gave him all three, he was very resistant to all of them. poor little guy, he's just so miserable. He's in my arms right now. I'm typing with just my right hand. Hopefully he'll be more willing to try and fall asleep again. You don't need to come home, he's doing better. Thanks :)
I have the two fishing related. Looking for the living space.
ok just yell and i'll log off and head home... there's a brain tape in the vcr..it's the neighborhood one...i need to pick up some vicks for his nose...
fish can really live in bonaters??? j/k of course
He's sound asleep. I'm gonna have some lunch. Still can't find the fish home: river, pond, stream, ocean, sea, pool, tank, aquarium, lake, brook, bowl, ....
mulhermujer - It's 4 letters, and it's a naturally occuring place within a large body of water.
Wow - Just found two more words that contain the U. Woo hoo! And on a related note, just found two more words starting with B, so there are now at least 44. ;)
thanks for all the clues...I think my score is double what it would have been otherwise :-) Still working on the bacteria, as well as the buffalo one.
Spending too much time on internet bulletin boards can hurt this game. ;) I saw, much earlier, an abbreviation commonly used online but didn't put it in, because it's just an abbreviation. Nope! It's also a food. Duh! There are at least 22 P words.
It won't take nerf...
and i'm only 42/473..sigh if i could break the 50 barrier...haven't had the time or energy...still thinking about the fish thing...the one word that i came up with (while i was getting water) did not fit..rats
oh you've got to be kidding me..i've never heard of this 5 letter i just made...nope nothing to do with fish or animal products.. Jlm is the other animal product that starts with a b a food for the animal or for humans? or would that be giving it away?
It's a food from an animal, consumed by humans.
Anyone able to help with another clue for the repetitive 8? I have two distinct areas that I'm thinking it might be in, but neither is panning out. I'm thinking it either starts with re, or has a beginning that is a french word for again.
the repetitive word starts with an... I?!
No way! OK, back to the drawing board. At least looking in the re area gave me a couple more words. LOL!
Got it! I was trying to make words very similar to that, but putting re in front of that. Nothing worked.
There are ate least 9 N's. To recap the compiled stats for those who like that sort of thing. There are at least: 16xA 44xB 24xC 6xE 13xF 1xI 9xN 7xO 22xP 19xR 19xS 8xT 12x7 3x8 1x9 And I'm off for the weekend. Have fun all!
i have 54 B's
Is the bacteria word a type of bacteria, or another word for bacteria in general?
Must...stop...claws!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just when I'm getting closer to 44, there you go and find ten more.
the bacteria word is more like a way to describe it, or classify it. It's more a characteristic of bacteria.
oh, but the A's are killing me. I only have 13!
I like tuna melt, but my friend had poached salmon, rice and salad.. well. how could I get her addicted?? Found I'm not good company, when I'm inwardly concentrating on Babbling... pilot and bacteria - I have the answer repetition - in fact, I have three words that fit.
Hi Christine how are you?
Marianne, how are you doing? Many more words than seemed at the beginning.
I'm nopt doing too badly, I think I have been on the grid for about half an hour or so and I think I may have about 50 words hopefully. I have been to Sara's all day.
221 words 5.03 3507 Done for the day. 17xA 54xB 30xC 6xE 18xF 1xi 10xN 5xO 26xP 25xR 21xS 8xT I am sure there are more, but someone else will have to find them. See you all on Monday....
I have 2 9's
off to produce more Diet Dr Pepper..mulher i'm leaving around 4ish...make sure the house is cleaned up and all beer bottles are in the trash (hahah yeah right)
I wasn't even thinking about the bacteria clue and the word just jumped out at me. I was pretty proud of myself :-P
Any clues for that other 9???....
I hate when I am proud of myself for having like 14 R words and someone will post, oh I have 637.
Just the one nine here *rubs eyes* its gonna be a long night ;) lol
parker--one nine is about not having a job and the other has to do with soft drinks
Thanks! I got that "soft drink" one, will hunt for the other now!
I know why anceps isn't posting.... he's hiding out in our grid. Dang, I was going to sign off, now I see there's a clue for a jobless 9 lette word...oh pooh. I've gotta get away....no, no, I'm gone, until 10pm grid-time.
The 9's are worth 66 and 78, if that helps anyone.
Found the bacteria 8, thanks to Google.
Now if only I'd stop seeing 'perforate' and 'pennant'...
Nothing longer than 6 letters:(
parker313 - when that bacteria-ish word jumped out at you - what did it look like - I don't want to be scared, should it happen to me...
Woo Hoo, I found a 9 letter word!
Winner, How are you doing?
You are all good. Only 131/4.79/1816. Have a good weekend!
Is there more than one 9 letter word?
Apparently there are two, but I've only found the elemental one.
That is the one I found too
I've only found three A words :(
Winner, How many A words have you found?
perwinkle i only have one A word
Winner, Did you try a person's name?
If it makes you feel better, I only have 5 A words ;)
I can't believe that there are really 17 A words? Are they common words or obscure words?
Wy won't it take pere when it took frere a few weeks ago. They are both French words?
I got the other obscure piece of clothing.
Would you please tell me what the obscure piece of clothing starts with?
Does it start with a B?
A :)
I found an article of clothing that is not worn much now that starts with a B. Now I have to look for one that starts with an A. Thanks ;)
Two of the a-words are eight letters, if that's any help...
Thanks for the hint but not a help to me. I am tired. Will try for a little while longer. Have found 5 A words so far but none have 8 letters.
There are three articles of clothing that start with B -
OOOOPS -- I forgot the sexy snake...What the heck is the A clothing... I keep seeing apron (if only it were spelled with a B)
It won't take nano??
I know, I saw that too. I guess they count it as a prefix, not a stand alone word.......
it will take nana
Those of you who do so well, who get tons of words and long words could do a great service if tomorrow, you could print a list of the words you used and tell us where to find it. It would be sooo helpful
You can see all the words that people got from the past days by going to the archives and then clicking on peoples' names. Did you mean something other than that?
128 words 4.80/1735 Yuck, but I quit!
I just got a musical instrument it starts with a P
it won't take beroe which is in the dictionary as a type of jellyfish.
any hints about the 9 letter unemployed word?
