An 8 for 65 ... almost didn't try it because to me it's just a city or girl's name. Turns out it has a couple of other meanings that make it a valid babble word :D

TA DA, got the 8 letter word starting with F. It came up spelled with a capital F and I didn't think Babble allowed proper names.

Clues for the F8s??? The first is a city in Europe also a proper name (it's wort 65); the second, in UK, we'd call hedgerow... and it's worth 80 points, not 50 The R8 and S8 are each worth 50 points. Is that any help?

i can't find this 4-letter N word despite plenty of random key-punching. Which N does it start with? Please tell me before i wear out my keyboard. There are 2 other N words i've got ... used in perfumery.

After trying over 30 potential combinations of letters, i have FINALLY found the 4-letter N word. Go me.

The tolkein word is 4 letters for 6 points.
dimwit.... the only word I can thin of is bergamot, in Weil Antilope perfume. It make you smell like Duck a l'Orange, yummmy, but not very helpful.. Only other perfumery words I can recall are ATTAR and OTTO...

Frankly, my dear dimwit, it was not enough clues... sometimes I'm a little thick. So, I cheated a little (?) and googled a couple of words. I got the 6letter, and there's another, very similar, that's not on the grid... and from your clue I found the 5letter. So, I've learned another new word, today, andlooked it up, so I'll remember it next time. Thanks for your help. As someone said, last week - onwards and sideways.

For the 8 letter R word, start with the 8 letter S word and rearrange a bit.
R8 and S8 use the same lettes - think prefix and suffix. Did you mean you have the Weil perfume? OMGawd, that's the most sensual perfume I know...

There is at least one web site out there where you can put in a grid and it will solve it. It does not use the same dictionary as this game, so it may not be 100% correct, but it's a decent guide. Anyway, you can choose the minimum number of letters when you solve it, so you can use it to determine the number of words at each letter count. You just have to be careful to not look at the word list when you're looking at the word count at the bottom!
It's usually only off by about 5 or 6 words. ...and you'd know by looking at my scores that I don't use it to get words!
ah...that's what I was wondering--was there a way to get just a word count without a list? I know there are days that I couldn't be trusted not to look at the word list...especially with some of the grids we've had lately. Thanks!

ladybug - There are people who have written solvers that will give the count without the list (or at least in a separate location from the list) but as far as I know they're not web based. And I definitely can't program well enough to make one of my own! Some of them used to post the stats here, including total word count and points, and the number of words starting with each location in the grid. Unfortunately, haven't seen those kind of stats in a while. But if you know a good programmer and can call in a favor . . . ;)
Oh, I don't think I'm quite at the programmer stage just yet! However, I really do appreciate it when players post their word/letter counts...sometimes mine almost match! I do find it to be helpful in getting some of the words I've over looked. Thanks for doing that tonight. : )
