how are you gonna celebrate Xmas with your family?
we will all gather at another daughters house; have breakfast, open gifts, sit around and visit; have a wonderful dinner and complain we ate to much. Then most of the adults are going to see the new star wars movie Rogue One and I'm going to do the gram thing and baby sit.

We have a great time. Many years ago we would all go to my parents home but it's too far to drive for many of the "grandkids" and house is to small for everyone. When we are all there kids, grandkids, greats and such we can hit 40 people! So, despite my mother's dismay, my husband and I go to OUR children's home instead as it is so much easier for the two of us to travel over them with small children. BUT I do go to my parents home (my hometown) and go to the Christmas eve sevice at church where my mother plays the organ and I play the piano together--has become our tradition the last many years.
I love your traditions. It is great to re4 about such warm family gatherings!

tonight I work a night shift at the telephone lifeline service as a volunteer. Then preparing my daughter's roomj for her, with candles and lights and a teeny tiny Xmas cactus. We will watch Little Lord Fauntleroy and some nice series while chatting and (me) crocheting. Dinner will be Irish stew. No great traditions here, alas, except the movie.

I'm doing well, all I have to do is wrap all the stuff hubby bought for his grandkids...
oh, that is fun, wrapping gifts. Always gives me a real santaclaus feeling.
And his 'new' computer - he's still using an XP system with no memory to speak of...insisted all he wants is a refurbished computer, so that's what he got! I have to get the car cover off as soon as it stops raining and get the box out and sneak it into the garage to wrap.
not an easy thing to hide, grin
I got surprises for my daughter and son-in-law in the mail in time for them to get it today, too!

Nice to meet you as well Kam! I'm finally relaxing after procrastinating badly spending the last few days sewing my heart out on couple of gifts and then baking goodies for snacks Christmas day.
The delivery people "goofed" and left it with my wonderful neighbor - they must have known!
Mixed up deliveries are common this time of year.
we don't celebrate Xmas with presents here. But I got my kids and my 'daughter-in-law' little guardian angels.
I haven't baked in years. Kind of miss it, but do not miss the mess.
might do some baking with my daughter, now there's a thought. Better get the groceries for it, just in case she feels like it.
I don't do near as much as I used to when my children we younger but the all love the "standard" goodies so I do a little.

I think the delivery to the neighbor was on purpose since the box said Microsoft! She has a safe delivery spot - we're all on acres, and she has a safe spot, I don't - and there's a (harmless) dog in the yard - but delivery people don't trust dogs at all, don't blame them!

My lovely daughter took over baking chores when she was about 9! She's a pro now! She usually makes baklava, omg, delicious!

It is!! I watched her do it one night a few years back, just no big deal to her - her kitchen skills with pastries of all sorts amaze me.
I watched a couple of episodes of the Junior Masterchef program. Those kids cook stuff I wouldn't be able to pull off in a million years.
I haven't seen that. But I watch what the young ones pull off in the kitchen and am amazed sometimes!
so true. It is inspiring, to me anyway. All the things you can do when you don't st5 thinking about whether you can or not.
I never could bake well, so my daughter took over and mastered everything she tried! Sorry to brag, she has kitchen skills that I envy!

I am an adult and I am always happen when it snows for xmas as long as it stays on the ground for a while or I see it coming down:)
heavens no - a dusting of snow puts people into a panic out here. the roads aren't well taken care of and people think that all-season tires are really all-season tires
aha! right and four wheel drive means I can drive on anything
people panic here in nc and in the Washington metro area gets snow too
at regular speeds
there's an innate lack of common sense when it comes to winter driving in alberta - i mean, if you see all the big semi-trucks slowing down, staying in the right lane, that ought to be a clue that the roads aren't the best

HI peri. I use regular cucumbers. It calls for Korean ones, but can't get my hands on those. The little pickling cucumbers work great.

I think so, we're bicycling in the Garden Route area and also going to see Victoria Falls while we're there.
Have had some good rain so the game reserves should be quite green in March - just watch out for the hyena that likes to visit the barbecue and verandah of each cottage in the evening - he has been doing it for years

I got a kick out of reading about a certain walk in Capetown that is closed because some sort of medium-sized cat is preying on an endangered penguin. It all sounds so, um, foreign to me!
Oh my - I live in Durban and have not heard that story - but the penguins on Boulder Beach share the beach and surrounds quite happily with people - they swim and sunbathe right up close to people.
Oh I see it is a young male caracal (very beautiful) they are trying to trap him and relocate away from penguins
