Hi all
Hi Liz
Hi Flosey
the smallest i remember was 25
yep 25 was the smallest and largest 744
how well I remember that 744
lol Flos it was a goodun
sure was Diz, wouldn't hope for another though
there was a puzzle with 24 or 23 words before Lickety came on board, but I lost my n4 with the date
when did Lickety come aboard? do you remember?
not too long after I started, I think, so 2005 or 2006 maybe?
his wife joined in 05
so right about then
I came in 06 and I think he was here at that time but not offering clues right away
When was the 744 grid? Do you remember? It was either shortly after I joined, so was too mind-blown to attempt it, or before I join.
does his wife still play? I'm not aware of her
I remember it was around daylight change over - not idea what year.
Lickety says April 21 but no year given.
hi,all.
ohflosey, surely you remeber mrpresident
Hi jbp and Rose
yes, he developed the clue feature as a project for his computer class, I believe.
well, more than half pre-lickety-clues. that's my goal, some days easier to meet than other days.
and she only plays occasionally.
loved the limecat logo!
hey ya liz
i started babbling a few months before I got married,... i find it a great stress reliever
yes Rose, I do! but who was it?
mrpresident is lickety's ex
oh, I did not know that. I"m not in the loop on these things
nor am I jbp!
stuck with 5 to go.. sigh
22 here - so a long way to catch you up or to finish.
and the clues list was developed for her to help her solve the grid. at the time she was going through a lot of surgery and hospital time.
It's so much appreciated by so many people here.
I rarely finish, but I am always grateful to Lickety, and to the clues from all y'all.
speaking of which, I"m heading out with nbt. have a good night/day all!
good night jbp
Sleep well, jbp.
Also taking a break - not seeing any more words. Sleep well if I don't see you before.

busy. caught up on all that wretched clean laundry, folding etc. put away clean dishes... emptied bags of shopping left on floor by DH....
our weather is set to be mid-thirties all week. our A/C is putting in for overtime... loll
your DH needs to learn to pick up after himself! Jeezzzz... men.... or at least some men.... ;)
DH has sprayed all around our doors and windows outside. apparently there were scores of spiders scurying every which way. then he went out with a broom and swept away all their webs and debris.
AND the outside plumbing/drainage is finally done. he hopes to finish off the merbau boards he is putting on below floor level outside. then.... perhaps.... my kitchen will get some attention.
wow, he has done a lot of work. I retrack my last comment... he is a keeper ;)

I'm still waiting for the coffee to re-charge my battery
Coffee is good for that (though I find that coffee, like beer, isn't bought but rented - necessitating reasonably easy access to the loo)
Our bodies are great. They take what they need, and get rid of the rest. Our minds, not so much.
Excellent insight :)
A big ha-ha to the grid gods for putting le4 in the grid today, this first day of Le4. Ashes and sacrifice to all.
Tis also St David's day, for any Welsh amongst us
I had to look up St. David's Day. It's like St. Patrick's Day for the Welsh. (Except probably not so much drinking)
The Welsh can drink. More daffodils, though.
And leeks.
I can see wearing daffodils, but leeks? That could get pretty smelly.
All done - I shall go and attend to laundry. Have a great day, all
Leeks are no smellier than daffodils, in my experience, and tasty, whereas daffodils are supposed to be poisonous.
(My own contribution to totally irrelevant statements about St. David's Day.)
I read that people wear leeks and daffodils on St. David's Day. Must be misinformation if it is irrelevant.
Their tastiness and smelliness don't really come into it, however.
1st ho 5/16 any hints?
... my first one is the religious ho4 with a double vowel
I believe they make online card games back in the 80/90's, apart from that clue i can't think how to describe it

exciting morning -- tornado sirens going off . . .
I thought Spring was coming and after rain, Wind, sleet, more rain, etc., there is frost again.
Horrible.
I thought there'd be flowers!
And no help o n Wed. and I can't get the fire to "take"
And then I watched Trump on YouTube. I think I'll go back to bed!
At least there are no tornadoes!! I hope une is OK!
cente
hi ruby, Une
What a miserable mornoing, so far! How re you?
It's very warm, but we will have t'storms later, the deep cold
I'm trying to keep my spirits up, but it's not so easy today
Ruby, why in the world are you watching Trump on YouTube if you dislike him so much?
ugh. sick again. why cant my poor family catch a break this season?? :(
ugh, eva. I'm sorry. we've gone through all the germs this year too
lil man is battling his 2nd round of RSV -- just about 3 weeks now. the first time around, mama had the same cold virus as him + daddy had a nasty stomach bug. the second time around, mama had a double ear infection + daddy cut his thumbs really badly...and now daddy has the flu + mama has a sickness to be determined later today when i go to the clinic...
that's terrible, I hope everyone feels better soon! We went through two stomach bugs, strep, bronchiolitis, ear infections, rsv, two weird rashes, and at least three separate colds. And we just got a form that some kid has the flu at daycare. And I have an ear infection today. Hooray!
kids are germ factories
i have a feeling my ear infection isnt cleared up (last time i had one, it took 2 rounds of antibiotics to clear it up) and im just praying i didnt catch the hubbys flu. and we have gtten an email from daycare that several kids have had the flu + strep. c'mon, people!
Tell me about it. My partner's 5-yr-old grandaughter gives us every germ she picks up from school. She went down with a stomach bug last Friday and by Sunday I had it. And now her mum's got it. Get well soon, Eva.
halfway, NBT and NBS - time to get on with the day - out in to the rain
almost spring! things really do get better in the spring
TY hydra. my mom offered to either come stay with us for a few days or to take baby K for a few days, but shes almost 80 + the last time she was here, she caught hubbys stomach bug + also just got over pneumonia. i dont want to expose her to any more ickiness.
We are in our 70s. I got ear infection, laryngitis and pneumonia in Dec 2015 and ended up in hospital. You do seem to be more vulnerable when you get older!

nm got it.
hello....just passing through....
hello friends. having once helped me discover why a particular song happened to have gotten into my head, i place great faith in the crowdsourcing potential of the babble chatroom. so... I feel like there is some really well-known, common like... story/myth/fable where there is something like really scary but it turns out to be nothing. is it just such a common trope in a lot of TV shows that's making me think there is one particular famous one?
i even feel like there is a word to describe such a thing, like, "it's only a ______", that is BASED on the story... that maybe starts with a G?
not following you hursh.. sorry
'sok. you don't have to ALL knows - if one comes up with something, that's all it takes! lol
I don't watch much TV.. so I'm kind of clueless on stuff like that
I follow you but I can't think of an example
but i feel like that i was thinking it was from like, you know, a greek myth or aesop's fable or something really... non-TV... but then i thought, maybe it is just a meme ON tv and somehow that created the illusion in my head of it being so... so... fundamental.
Could use some help. ee4 any clue?
so a common theme in ancient myths like the Greek adventures, or the Iliad, or some such? Or the Brothers Grimm? Theme that have been given a modern twist for modern sensibilities?
ee4 like a limbless aquatic creature
Myriam, think of a long skinny animal
I think I read somewhere that all stories are a variant of a small (like maybe 5) different plots
yeah, and i thought that one particular one had turned into a metonym - (the way Scrooge now can be applied to any miser)
Got it! Thank you all.
Yes I see. Will think about it as I drop opff to sleep. Sometimes a great way to solve problems is to think of them before sleep and consciously tell your brian to figure it out. It works.
but i mean you see it everywhere really - wizard of oz, the giant head is an illusion - scary shadow looks like a monster but turns out to just be a jacket hung over a chair, etc
true, and thank you swmbo! if you think of it and don't see me, maybe put it in your profile and i'll check there :)
i should also try to ask Molly, i think she was the genius who deduced where the song in my head had come from :)
OK, I am off to sleep in the arms of Morpheus. BTW regarding using your brain to solve a problem, this was studied some years ago. The subjects were given a riddle and instructed to think of it before sleeping and instruct the brain etc. The riddle they were given was this: "A man in a uniform sees an object he fears in the hands of another. He immediately turns around and runs home." Give it a try
i'm new here. Can anyone tell me how to play this game?i will appreciate it
it is like Boggle, you find words, the letters have to be adjacent but diagonal counts as well as horizontal and vertical, and you can't use the same tile twice within one word.
Thanks Hurshy, now i understand why i always cant get a word.
the points on the tiles just help you to find words because people make lists of every word in the grid that day, telling the first TWO letters, how many TOTAL letters, and how many POINTS. the point values increase more the longer the word is. in a four letter word you just read the points straight off the tiles, so COAL would be co4/5 (if it were connected). the word "PETAL", when it is in a grid, would be pe5/12 because p is worth 2 as well, and for 5 letter words you double the point values. for 6 you triple, 7 you quadruple, and so on.
4 is the shortest you can do.
usually you can find two forms of the list (one printable) by going to the link at the bottom of the page "Lickety's Babble Clues" - he uses a computer to generate them most days soon after the new puzzle appears. if Lickety doesn't happen to post, someone who solves it quickly will usually post the printable-style list in their profile, and you can ask in chat if anyone knows who has it. (MollyL and Volleymomdee) are good ones to try.
haha,and it is my level,4 points==
i guess we are not having the same puzzle because i cant see petal
no, we have the same puzzle, PETAL was just a hypothetical suggestion.
oh,i see...So everyone is having the same puzzle?
we have a standing rule that you don't use words in the chat if they are in the puzzle that day - although personally i don't think that should include times when common words such as "this" and "that" appear in the grid.
yes, everyone has the same puzzle, there is one puzzle per day, it switches at midnight, central time (US).
Oh,now i understand why i only has 4 hours left
the number of the words in the puzzle has varied over the years i've been playing from lows in the 30s to highs over 500, 600, maybe even 700??
so when there's a small one and you finis23
scuse me, my cat cut me off mid-sentence jumping on the keyboard
i was trying to say that when you finish early and you want to play more, it is sad and you sit and mope until the next day.
haha,dont worry...Is it not 2.30am in England?
oh I am only a wannabe
i'm really in the US
just think my ancestors made the wrong decision
Oh,so it is not like when you already finish and you can raise to another level...Alright,i like this game idea.haha
we help each other a lot, people give clues freely
but we don't like it when people feel ENTITLED to clues, if they don't understand one, two, or more clues, and they just expect people to keep giving them more...
we're only human
hahaha,is it mean i should pay more attention to the chat box so that i might get some clues from it?lol
sometimes we get into pun mode, where we all start making lots of puns in the chat on a theme, like the other day it was birds, and so if you like puns, that's a bonus
yes, you can get lots of clues, as well as ask for them
also, there is the free way to play, and the register and pay way to play. if you pay, you only pay one time, not annually.
what is the difference between them?
it used to be, but idk if he changed it, that if you play free, you get the stats below the puzzle (Tile Stats and Word Stats) for two weeks, and then they go away, and if you want to have those, you have to pay. if you pay you also can have a picture and a flag and stuff.
do you see the Tile Stats and Word Stats? they are handy.
the Tile Stats look like a mini version of the grid, and they tell you how many words you can make that START from that tile. so today, you can make 3 N words by starting at that first N.
Yes yes,i saw that...But my eng skills isnt good enough to develop some vocab more than 4 points...
and all three of those are not words you would use in everyday conversation, as it happens.
oh, are you Italian?
anyways, thanks for the help...I need to try to take a look the puzzle and see what can i get, haha
nono,i am malaysian haha
so, you'd be surprised, you DO know longer words, like right there you can spell "puzzle" and "develop" and "points" and "skills" which are all more than 4 letters
but many of the words - even the 4 letter ones - are very obscure (we call them "babblets") and so, if you are just learning English, you definitely wouldn't be expecting to find those. which means you wouldn't finish the puzzles.
haha,i mean from the puzzle.
yes but regular words appear in the puzzle :)
today is not a great example, it has fewer normal words than many puzzles.
haha, really?hope the next puzzle will be easy with me haha
i would venture to say that many people would say they disliked today's puzzle compared to other days.
wow, really? Hmm,this sounds challenging and i like challenge
well good :) welcome! fair warning: it's very addictive.
haha,yay!5 letters got!:)
one of our very best players, Sprite - English isn't her first language either. she's in the Netherlands.
well,first 14 points got
if you click on someone's picture, you can see their profile.
and then you can see what the picture is, because it is usually too small to see in the version here in chat.
<-- this is my kitten Rilla, zipped up in my sweatshirt.
cute Rilla
oh yeah, and proper nouns do not count, so, sometimes i play a game called Name That Proper Noun!, just to get them out of my system.
like if OBAMA were in the grid, i would say Name That Proper Noun! recent president of the U.S.
and people would say "Obama!" and i would say "ding ding ding!"
i invented that game. :)
and when you see a word that looks like it's there but it actually isn't, we call that a phantom.
i know what you mean. Like implying
we also have this other funny tradition where if we asked for a clue for something, and then people gave the clue and it turned out that it was a very easy, normal word that we feel like "gee, I should have seen THAT!", we used to say, "hit me with a fish!"
and as a result, words that are easy and normal are now described as "fishy"
if you do finish a puzzle, you get a little mini video of fireworks.
oh,thank you...i will pay more effort to it after work...now i have to go
bye and good night
hi all you lurkers

Congrats Gwen
Hi there ciaobabe
don't tell me no one needs any clues 8 - )
you can give me some hints if you want
but i guess i am going to gv up this lol
Too many left to ask for one - ducks head in shame
1 hour left
We need to ask for a specific clue. One you are looking for.
here are the "big" words: ce6 = ce + one unit of music
ho6 = the word ho4 (sacred) turned into an adverb
OK, that's a way to clue that way, gwen.
Those are the only "big" words :D
some other weird ones:
ye5 = a yiddish word, a upperclass woman, y + one penny is a c*** + vowel
There is a co 5 - the sound a dove makes and the first two letters of your seeing organ
ho5 = rules according to ho***
OK ... nighters. Have fun.

I am sick of the rain.. can't wait for spring to arrive
keep waiting for the spring weather to arrive -- but at least we don't have to endure tornados, hurricanes and floods
have you moved yet nan?
no - we take possession May 1 and will spend the month renovating before we move in on June 1
the amount of sorting and tossing to do with 25 years worth of stuff I thought I couldn't ever part with is mind boggling
A literal spring cleaning
tell me about it.. I toss stuff out every weekend.. and it is endless
