Brian has a knee injury and he has been fobbed off with 'nothing can be done' but his doctor has referred him to a different hospital as she thinks that's ridiculous! He has a real phobia about hospitals and it takes all my energy to actually get him there

I went to Australia in 1992 for the 1st time for 3 months, We were based in Melbourne and visited all over the place except for Western Australia. I have been twice more since then, and Brian & daughter have spent 3 holidays in the outback - not for me!! Don't think we can do it again because of the long flight.
We have decided we are going to book a cruise as soon as he has been to the hospital (May 2nd) and I am hoping he will be well enough to go to the Caribbean in November.

i think hes basically plateaued...still a touch of a cough (not horrendous) but definitely still crud in his chest...you can hear it in his breathing

eating nonstop, heh. and definitely smiling. sleeping as well as he ever was - we transitioned him to the crib about a month ago, so sleeping has been hit-and-miss (last night was a pretty good night!)

only just introducing solids, so im hoping he starts adjusting + that it can help him sleep a little better at night

The key, Eva, is to not have feeding included with the bedtime routine, and he must fall asleep in his crib on his own with a security object, e.g. stuffed animal. that is his buddy all day.
we generally start the bedtime process around 8:00 (maybe a little earlier or later, if he is extra tired or extra awake) daddy takes him upstairs + gives him a neb treatment while he takes a bottle, then gets him changed + into his sleep sack. usually hes pretty good about sleeping after that, but sometimes we hafta go back in a few times to pop the paci back in his mouth.
he still awakens several times a night...sometimes he put shimself back to sleep, but he usually needs at least one new diaper + 1-2 bottles throughout the night
how old is he now/
some nights, though, its up every hour, or up for hours + just crying + fussing, no matter what we try. those are the hard nights.
TO - he will be 7 months on friday!

Generally babies sleep 10-12 hours overnight, with no need to feed, at age 6 months. Try to move that bedtime bottle earlier, not part of bedtime, and to not feed him during the night.

oh man, how ive tried. this kid is perpetually hungry, and NOTHING will calm him down. letting him cry it out doesnt work -- he will just scream + doesnt fall asleep.
I bet you have tried. It is a tough transition at this age. Babies love to fall asleep with a parent and being fed. Life is good that way.

its a balancing act between trying to train him out of needing those crutches + actually trying to get some sort of sleep.

we dont do that at night at all, but we do occasionally have "lets see if we can get an extra hour of rest" snuggle time on weekend mornings ;)
his daddy is gonna have a hard time once he cant use the rock-n-play for naps anymore -- which will be any day, due to his weight!
Co-sleeping is common in so many cultures and many American parents.
i know folks who do it. but hubs + i were on the same page with us not doing it -- i would never sleep knowing the baby was in bed with us. id be paranoid about rolling onto him.
Yes, there are major risks. In our practice a 6 mo old girl died almost 2 yrs ago when the father rolled on the baby during the night. Tragic.
until youre a parent, you cant understand how people have these horrible accidents with their kids or how people snap + do horrible things to their kids. but once you experience the exhaustion or mind-shattering frustration, you can understand how it happens.
Sleep deprivation makes people crazy, I get it.
