morning sprite - very quiet in here
hiya ursh!
Hi and hugs sprite. Hi Ursh
How was your holiday, Sprite?
*hugs Liz* great to see you! How are you and your beloved?
We're well thanks - keeping busy!
it was lovely, Liz! Rob and I had a very good time together.
good to hear!
That's the way it should be. Was the weather kind to you?
not really, though we had some hours of sun and warmth. But mostly it was way too cold (even freezing, with hail and wet snow!) and wet.
to
Well I'm really delighted you had a good time but honestly, in that weather, rather you than me :)
yeah we would have liked better weather too. But that is a thing you can never count on hereabouts. You learn to enjoy what you do have, no matter the weather, grin.
That's true - similar to the UK of course. I'm become very acclimatised to the climate here and whinge when the temperature drops below 20 C. A real softie these days.
*giggles* you live in paradise, no wonder you are turning soft ;)
I think so. I'll be taking hoodies and stuff when I'm in Europe next year! Even though it'll be summer.
smart. It is the difference in temperature that makes us register it as cold or warm, not so much the actual temps. 15C is cold on most days, but it was positively warm last week, lol.
True - it's actually the cool breeze that makes the winter feel cool here and when you get out of the sun. The temperature itself is usually fine.
Really glad to have seen you - even briefly. Got to go and take care of the soup I started making. Hugs.
anyway, Rob and I very much enjoyed being together and outdoors. So there will be more experiments like this one.
:)
*hugs Liz* Tell your love hi from me, and hugs to you both.
FROST!! and sunshine. I'mback in bed after letting pups out.
*hugs ruby* The sun is already pretty powerful. Once you are in the sun and out of the wind, it can become pleasantly warm.
your husband and Rose's are in today's grid, did you see?
No Wind thus far, but I'll stay in bed 'til the bathroomand towel heat up. When the nights are clear, it gets much colder.
I know, lol. Spent last week outdoors.
fireflies. Bye all!

Hi everyone. Only got back into playing properly the last few days. Nice to see the familiar faces.
Hi Sally
Hi!
It's like a soap opera. You go away and come back and nothing has changed. Same weird words and nice people.
Hi Sally, welcome back
Hi Sally
Thanks! I'm very out of practice though I finished the last two days with a lot of help from Lickety.
Good morning all.
Hello Sally! I haven't seen you in a dog's age (if you'll pardon the expression - lol)
Hello Sukee
and Mixi
Hi Ruby.
Speaking of dogs, my Rufie is sitting on my foot
Ruby! I saw news about your loss on Facebook. How are the dogs?
Dogs are great, protectors and companions
Two cats and five hens here at present.
It is freezing here, more like Binghamton than Franc!
morning :)
We've had the log burner alight for the last few days. That and a cat on my lap keeps me warm.
I'd love to have chickens, but I wouldn't trust the dogs not to play rough
Hello Jan
Hi IndiaJan
Sallyt is the person who introduced me to babble!
Do you have foxes where you are? We have electric netting to keep the hens safe from the foxes, which would keep them safe from dogs too.
ruby I sent you a friend request on FB (Michele Alperin)
Did I? I don't remember that. I remember having long discussions about your pond.
my landlady told me that there are coyotes in this area! I have never seen one tho
help with left E pls
There are foxes in the field above the house, but they dare not come into my garden
No coyotes in Shropshire :-)
Left E is short plural for the little one that could
I'll look for it later, Peri, I'm invited for lunch and they're picking me up in a few minutes

Hello, Jmcnrick :-)
I is coming to the British Isles this summer
Nice! I hope the weather will be nice for you! Grannyrose is also coming to the UK in June this year.
my boy and I are stopping in Oxford and then driving around Scotland to see our family castle on the Isle of Barre
I am hoping that I wont freeze to death in the first of August. :) But you never know! haha
ooooh....lucky you jmc!
Sounds wonderful! I was born in Oxford so just think it is a normal looking city. But lots of people love the dreaming spires :-)
I named my Westie after a Scottish Castle!

hello friends.
CAR!!! Hi darling!
Hi TRIF! Want to get in the car and drive until we are out of gas?
Normally, I would TOTALLY drive your getaway car. Unfortunately, I MUST write that damn paper today, sunshine or no. The prof and I are somewhat at war, and I will be DAMNED if I am going to lose my 4.0 because of this sh*t class.

hi nan, still on the Rhine watching castles
the prettiest part of the cruise, bich
are you getting the commentary about them all --- the warring brothers who shot each other from their castle windows?
have you been to Rothenburg yet? -- my favourite of all the towns
nbs, nbt and over half way -- need to get ready to go over to the new house
yes Bich and we walked along the top of the walled in city. Love Rothenburg!
That was to cyber and Bich(typed too fast)
I am Groot (guess where I've just come back from...)
Whats a Groot?
anyone have a definition for the 8?
to make wider...

it's "plural" of a 7
not an actual plural, but a "plural"meaning has a plural ending?

Just monkeyed a br 7/40 :-)
Just monkeyed a br 7/40 :-)
i have one of those, yeah
Double click - sorry
pl for the 8
Nope - the one I got is not pl-able!!
thanks blah that helped me find the other one and the 8!
sorry pl is the wrong thing since it's a verb, ends in the curvy letter still
yvw hursh
we always let plural stand in for that, because it's just too long and clunky to say "third person singular form of the verb"
hah! that never occurred to me. but we've already established that you are smarter than I am :)
we have? lol
Isn't Hursh smarter than everyone?
Theres another br 7/40 that doesn't extend. But you guys probably have it already.
but delightfully humble about it
The phantom pa6 works as a pa5
urmph, imma have to go hide in the pb
ooh thanks molly
imma have to?
yes, have you never noticed my tendency to incorporate expressions from all forms of dialect?
sorry for the confusion sood! the one I was referring to is to widen
Hursh, are you like all up in da house?
:-). I got that earlier, Blah.
well then...never mind me :)
at the moment, yes - and binge watching masterchef jr. there is an african american boy on at the moment who wants to be a chef and also loves to participate in all kinds of clubs, music, you name it. i hate that one of the first things i have to think is, "i hope the police don't shoot him..."
Glad you are enjoying Masterchef. I tend to ignore phrases like "binge watching". And other dialect that crushes the English language.
language is like a plant - it has bits that die and seeds that get buried, sometimes gets pruned - all necessary to renewal of life...
nicely put hurshy
but i'm the first one to get ticked off when people can't properly use your and you're, lol
or its and it's
or there their they're
Yes Hursh, I know that you are the ultimate Grammar Queen. That is why it surprises me when you use certain phrases. No matter. And carry on.
'grammarnazi' was an entry in the NYT crossword the other day, so it's a real thing
well, I mean, when I was a kid, you watched TV when the shows you liked were aired. it was pretty 'wow' just to use your VCR to tape something if you wouldn't be home. you couldn't watch 13 episodes of something in a row without working very hard to properly capture them, and being very patient. the technology and systems and habits we have now have changed, which makes binge watching an appropriate new phrase, i think.
I am not clear on what is a "real thing" anymore. So many made up words are being included in various dictionaries.
all words had to be made up at some point :)
fake words! it's like fake news! sad!
right hurshy, who ever heard of wiki(anything) a few years ago?!
True Hursh. I just get tired of over used phrases like binge watching, and reach out, and at the end of the day, and going forward...etc.
oh, well, yes, some of those are quite trite
trench coats were first made in the 1870s or so - but they weren't called "trench coats" until they were widely used in the trenches of the Great War...
And then there is the business email I got this week that included pls (please) thnx (thanks) and apprized
also very sad, indeed
yesterday I subbed for a 1st grade teacher who had a job chart for the students - with one of the jobs labeled "messanger" *cringe*
Judge Judy (not one of my favorites) has been quoted as saying that texting is the dumbing down of society. I agree.
I have gotten emails from the teachers of my children that included such horrible spelling and grammar that I lit a candle for the education of kids in general.
srsly ;)
(sorry, i couldn't resist that one)
YAY i found more B's!
croma
*starting to worry that Molly won't forgive me for that one*
I have great respect for you Hursh. No forgiveness necessary.
:)
sorry I just don't believe there are 22 B words in this grid!!!
it's a bit of a slog...
A bit?!
wouldn't that be slg?
If you believe in imaginary, obscure words, it's easy
So how is everyone this fine Saturday afternoon / evening?

Cleaning the excrement depositories. What a lovely way to spend the afternoon.
