we will first go to our home, btw, rose. You can check in from 4 pm on, so we will take you home until then. But don't worry, we know you will be tired from the long journey. No pressure to talk or anything, just put your feet up and let us spoil you.

lololllll please tell him, anything that protects his assets will do. We are not picky.
more particular: anything that is clean and ready to pack!
if he only waits until tomorrow he will have a heap more choices...
lol, how is it that most men are the same in this? This sounds SO familiar!
how are you all doing with the grid? Not sure why but it is slow for me. Halfway and out of speed.
16 to go... some obscure word in it
goooo rose!
not that many series, I guess
no, that's what makes it so difficult
the go4 part of that is, there will still be lots of babble when I return with pretty hair :)
what are you having done?
oh, just a haircut, nothing special. I just want to look my best for you :)
awww, too sweet. and there i will be, all crumpled and bleary eyed....

phantom: reticule
clue for the en9 plz
hiya movieman! A french meat word
trine
or try this: en*** what you do after knocking on a door, brits spelling + thing to sleep on + vowel.
fireflies. Bye movieman, I hope you find the 9. And the rest, of course :) Have a lovely day.
Hello everyone. Down to 87 words in forty minutes! But am stumped by the clue for the EN 9..Have tried to go in with the sometimes vowel on the end but can not seem to find the word. Nor the thing to sleep on either.bed..couch..sheet..mattress..fu\nton.
Futon*
French for go in, then **** du Rhone. No sometimes vowel
TY Zooz
Ah many thanks, Matty!
Hello, Lynxxx :-)
Glad to be of service!
o it was what babies sleep in.
May I have stats for the lone O in the third column?
So*
OM 5/16
Arrgh. Easy when it's pointed out. Thanks Zooz
Most welcome :-)
Have you been enjoying the nice weather, Matty?
Oh yes! Though it's a bit windy here today
Have you?
It is ten degrees cooler here today. And had thunderstorms last night.
Oh yes I have. Love hot weather. Good for my skinny body LOL
We had some heavy rain. Yesterday was gorgeous though
I have three of the 8s how about you?
Just one...
mo8, I have
Okie dokie.
Can I have stats for the ones I"m missing?
I have that one also. TO 8 /50 & DO 8/50
Right I shall look once I am clean!
The TO 8 I have comes from the T next to the Y
Ooh, I have three of those Ts...shall look
Actually it might come from the T above the G, Matty.
Sorry for the confusion.
Back
Hello zzoozz and Matty, if you're still here
Is anhbody here?
Hello, Ruby :-)
If you had rain last right, maybe it will arrive on Monday
I love the heat, but the garden is thirsty
I think, Matty, has gone to have a shower.
It's not raining here for a change. I actually saw the sun a few minutes ago. But back under the clouds it went.
The boy who walks the dogs helped me water the plants down below
Sounds like that most of the time here, Molly.
Hello Molly
The steps down to the bottom are too dangerous if I'm alone
My favorite food is in here: cu4 and I even drink the whey
Always best to be careful, Ruby. I had to change the last step at my parents home. It was too steep so changed it to be easier to step up and down on.
It's too bad you don't have a hose you could use from the deck.
It's mostly OK as I can tend the tomatoes easily with a watering can. The tomatoes are full of flowers; they love this hot weather
Morning all. Thanks for the clue for the EN 9 Ruby, lots of help :)
Hello Sukee
Hello, Sukee :-)
Looks like a rainy day here too. Although it may clear up. Humid already.
I'm back, clean and dressed
You look much better, Matty! LOL
Matty that TO* /50 comes from the T above the G not the T next to the Y
Why thank you - and that I almost certainly do!
I am sorry for the confusion.
TO 8/50
I can't see any of the 8's or the middle o or the 4th column t.
We had temps of 27C yesterday, sukee. it is 10C cooler here today.
It it a common word?
It is, Matty yes.
OK, I shall search
Think of waterboarding etc.
I have a mysterious shrub in the garden with a heavely scent, but only learned the name yesterday -- seringa
It is inconspicuous with small clusters of 4-petalled white flowers
It's Worth planting as it smells like a cross between honeysuckle and jasmine - captivating
Just looked it up, pretty.
also called Mock Orange.
Ha I put that into google, Ruby and tons of photos of syringes came up lol
That too :)
Yes, that's it
Gosh, that was painful. ;)
<No, zzoozz, syringa is lilac family. It's seringa
LOL
It was here and I never saw it until I was drawn by its scent
LOL, just got the TO 8...funny Matty :)
I know, Ruby but for some reason google keeps saying it is portuguese for syringe lol
That's me. A laugh a minute ;)
Another big grid. Yay.
And it is not a bad grid so far, Scrabs!
haha, zzoozz, that happened to me at first with Google. I only knew the sound of the name, not the spelling
Zoom, trying searching for seringa plant
I have about 30 minutes then I am showing and selling my art at the local farmers market.
I did in the end, Molly. It came up with some beautiful white flowers so glad I got there in the end.
Syringes came up for me but then the Wikipedia link was on the right.
Nice one, Scrabs! Hope you sell lots.
Good luck, Scrabs, it is brave to put your art out there
Last week I made $45. It was a slow day. Most people buy food--pies, cookies, bread, plants.
nbt, nbs, 100 left to go. Time for breakfast.
I'll be back...
I still can't find the middle o or the 4th column t -- babble-blindness, I guess
The middle O is a greek letter. Also a villain in a classic Who episode
ty4/6
thank you both
Need to go and prepare parents meal. Happy babbling everyone!
Bye, sukee and zooz.
3 of those ty4/6
See you later, kids, it's time for the NYT Sunday crossword
Enjoy that, Ruby. I will do it later as it is in our paper on Saturdays.
thans, Molly, you always help me
The Sat-Sun internationalNYT has both the Saturday puzzle (hardest) and the Sunday one (the most fun)
They offset all the bad news
Poof!
Oh, I like the difficult one. It makes me think.
I love it too, Scrabs!
Yes, it is tricky. Some puzzles are so clever that I am amazed the creator(s) came up with the puzzle. I often work on the puzzle for 2-3 days.
morning all
I passed halfway. Off to the farmers market now. Bye.
Hi and bye, Dan.
ciao

tyvm
You're welcome.
hi Haz! Go4 to see you - ty for the clue - mind is perseverating on ninja turtles
Hello Aloy - nice to see you.
oops, LOL - Haz to the PB
See, I'm out of practice! Does that not get me out of going?
h'mm, ok - but throw some chocos in there for penance
No problem. I'll try to mend my ways.
did you think of Fiona when you saw "tenrec" the other day? I surely did..
Absolutely. I think of her often but especially when the tenrec appears.
sigh, me too
Time was when she could have me in fits of laughter in the log. And it was so convenient to have someone to blame.
yup - the blame was on her!
She was so sporting about accepting the blame, only protesting feebly every now and again.
well, she could tease a lot too
Oh, I know, she enjoyed the banter tremendously.
sometimes you two would gang up on me - I felt loved, lol
I was a newbie and made lots of booboos
We only ganged up on people we liked! It was a sign of approval.
Did you join babble after us? I've always thought of you as being there already.
I joined but dropped out for a while bc I became an addict and didn't have time while teaching - thanks to retirement, I can feed my addiction
Ah, that explains it. I think it was August 2005 when I started and have given in to the addiction just about every day since.
- Lickety has helped so much - I joined before the lists but Brandyjack helped, remember?
I remember Brandyjack very well and also the times when it would have been considered amazing to finish at all. Lickety and (remembering my commission) morewords have made life much simpler.
amen !
How long have you been retired, Aloy?
Let me think - I took a year of absence after Hurricane Charlie and then retired, so - 2005 was retirement
Ah, so you're well used to it now. I take it you're enjoying it?
Loving it ! Not answering to the bell took about 18 months to adjust to - ahh
My sister-in-law was a teacher for many years and viewed retirement with a little trepidation. Would she manage to fill her days? Fast forward a few years and her life is very busy.
She volunteers at the local primary school, goes to craft classes, helps various folks with tasks, attends lectures etc and tries to tame the garden. No time to miss work!
I understand - felt like a hamster on the wheel and it took a while before I relaxed - and discovered that retirement can be as busy as you want it to be! We do lots of volunteer work for several env. orgs and we do lots of physical work in the Grove - so we stay out of trouble (-:
That's great. You get to help others while keeping yourself busy. It must give you great satisfaction.
discouraging at times, but - we try
lucite is too proper to be accepted
my retirements not as active. some morning tennis, some afternoon piano duets.
Lucite must have ideas above its station...
hi mixi - sounds great!
Hello mixi - that sounds very nice. It's about having time to do things you want.
still haven't found that turtle
... it
... it'
It's my6, just rhyme it.
... it's also a flower and a girl's name
Sorry, Aloy, I thought you had got it a while back, we were too busy chatting.
LOL - found it, ty
what I named our boat, my6 the turtle
You're welcome.
and we live on my6 slough
My Primary 5 teacher was a My6. She it was who helped to form my lifelong aversion to needle and thread.
ooh - she stuck you?
I had to rip out my stitching so often because it didn't meet her standards. Too late to sue for compensation for hurt feelings?
bet you won't be naming any pets after her!
Dead right!
My stitching WAS pretty bad, but it was pretty disheartening to have to do it all over again. And again.
I thought my6 was in the water pipes at Hogwarts.
It could well be, mixi, I have to confess that I've never read the books.
I know it as a plant
my6 was the ghost in the girl's bathroom
rule
Yes, mother tried growing in the back year on a sunny hill. It didn't really want to be there.
pb for me! lol
I have a notion that a sprig of my6 is always included in a royal wedding bouquet.
hi Marj - have one of the chocos
stuffs PB with cookies.
phantom: gooier
hello all
Hello, peri.
hi peri
Haz, what a wonderful surprise to see you here.
I'm probably as surprised as you! Someone asked for a clue and it went from there.
I have missed your clues
I think of FM also but especially when I see tenrec in the grid.
I know, she was so much fun.
she was
She certainly left a lasting impression in babble. As did Anniebrook - I was so sorry to read she had died.
Anniebrook was a sweetheart. I really miss her.
how long has it been since FM died. It has to be at least 5 years.
FM died in 2011, November.
hi peri - fitting to pay tribute on Memorial Day weekend
and it so nice ( I know the word is in the grid) that she is still rembered
I had known she was ill since September but it was still a huge shock when she died.
HI Aloy.
Did we ever hear what happened to Anniebrook, was she ill?
I did not hear anything.
how are you and your family doing, Haz?
I think of her son, Billy
I hope Bobby was able to cope, she was always so concerned about him.
Bobby - right
I hope so too
We are all well. Older daughter is married and younger daughter is living and working in London. We visit her a couple of times a year and she comes home as well. Just the two of us and the dog now.
same dog?
Dempsey is almost 5 now, a little blue roan cocker spaniel. His signature song, if he had one would be 'Hopelessly devoted to you' - directed at me.
awww
beautiful pup
need to take a break, bbs. don't be a stranger, Haz.
He's a real velcro dog. Apparently it is a mark of the breed to be very attached to one person, and he has adopted me as his heroine.
See you again, peri.
indeed
Haz! How lovely to see you. I've been meaning to write or email. x
Haz, does your hubby have retirement plans?
hi Jac
Hello Jacula! I owe you an e-mail!
I'll look forward to catching up with your news, Haz.
Aloy, he's starting to think about retirement in the next few years. He has two mornings off a week now. He just finds it all getting a bit trying physically.
Jac, it's been ages. It'll be a LOOONG e-mail.
he truly deserves some "off" time
I have been on maternity leave for 34 years and am starting to think about the benefits of retirement.
Make the email as looong as you like, Haz. I don't mind.
lol -
You're a glutton for punishment but I'll definitely apply myself to it.
Good!
How have you been?
Re retirement - I got a sum from a private pension for my 60th birthday but I'll have to wait until I'm 67 for the other one and the state one.
How have I been? That'll take a looong email in reply to yours, Haz.
Yes, I think I'm due for the pension at 67. I still think it's ridiculous that I'm nearly 60. I'm still waiting to feel grown-up and responsible.
Okay, we'll catch up and the one with the e-mail with the most words wins the prize.
Yes - I can't believe I'm 60 either. Only 3 mins since I was 18 surely?
LOL re the email prize. x
I don't think twitter would suit us for catching up.
Nope. I only go on there if my daughter wants me to vote for something.
I don't have a twitter account but I have a look at a few people just to see what they're saying. Sheer nosiness, but then I've always been 'interested'.
You should be on Facebook - much more chance to be 'interested'.
I've always resisted Facebook because I know I'd spend too much time on it.
I do see the benefits, I just wonder if I'd be disciplined enough.
LOL. It can be a time-waster but is also very good in a lot of ways - keeping up with far-flung family, word games with others (like Peri), interest groups etc.
Well, you'll have to give a try and limit yourself to a certain amount of time a day or a week on there.
I suppose it's like anything else, it's how you use it that decides how beneficial something is.
Got to go now. Look forward to reading your email soon. x
I'll be out this evening but I'll definitely try to get something done tomorrow. Let the battle of the catch up emails commence...
See you soon, Jac.
And I must go as well. Bye for now.
bye haz, jac
bye, Haz - enjoyed chatting with you, tc

Ooo, Ru, dangerously close to a dirty, dirty word. : P
this grid is loaded with dirty words
It has been a dirty word week here in Babble Land. Do you think the Babble Gods are lonely?
maybe horny
I once called a terrible English boss the c4 word and , although he was one, he almost had a heart attack
It's very effective when used correctly LOL
dirt is now a phantom word for me in this grid
That's funny, ally
that is just not a word in my dictionary ruby.. I kind of find it offensive
I think that's the whole point, ruru
I haven't uttered it in a long time
And when used VERY sparingly, it has a huge impact
Now I use bad words in French, also sparingly
in French it's ok though :D it always sounds better in french
true that
Everything sounds better. But what's more fun here are the phrases in the vernacular without bad words, but funny and effective
Hi Bichon
I have the vocabulary of a "plouc"!
My friends teach me special epithets for politicians, stuff I didn't learn in high school
That word is a big gun that gets pulled out when people are really slinging the mud. Mostly a word used by men in fights when they know they can't hit a woman but they can pulverize her with that word.
or directed at a woman by nutjobs from Canada
Using it on a man, however, is more shocking (to the man!)
Nutjobs from Canada? Something I haven't heard about. I thought Canadians were cool and polite
most of them ruby.. there's a couple bad apples
most of them are polite I mean.. there are a few here that are rude and mean-spirited
That word, if directed at me, has no effect. I guess I've been innoculated
Too much time in the trenches, I guess
maybe
If women would stop acting like it is the most offensive word in the world, it would not get tossed out in arguments.
Exactly. There are worse things to be called, e.g. "You're just like my mother!"
That would sting!
Now THAT is offensive. : D
whew! fw - last words, to7 and 8
Then there is the classic "man fight phrase"..."all women are bitches".
Now if somebody called me short.....
Time to feed the prince and the bi*** LOL
See you later
in 7/36, pls
nm

Good Saturday, all! It's flower planting day!

I know nothing about steak
yw
90 left, going to get the mail. bbs
It didn't help me.
i just have a pretty good memory, so if i've seen it now and then on restaurant menus, that's kind of enough
well, start with the first five letters of whatever your main dish is, and then put the _____ d"Azur on it.
Ah. That got it done. Merci.
er6, please?
wanna come over and get a little naughty, marc? ;)
I haven't had an offer like that in years. I am not sure I can handle it. But thanks for the offer. And thanks for the clue.
How about a clue for er5, please?
Oh by the way I am probably too old for you. But the offer made my day.

No bacon here
What they call bacon, isn't
nobacon in france???
It's totally different, no taste and different kind of fat
sounds like turkey bacon
or maybe tofu?
Ruby if you are close to Germany you can try speck. It is pretty close to bacon.
All the meat here is less good than in the US; the only thing better is halaal lamb
Nice idea, but I'm far
Sorry for that. The meat in Germany is wonderful.
i think i would give it up then.
wehavegone from 1 lb of bacon for one meal for thethreerofus to getting 3 meals from 1 pound
I think the problem here is what they feed (or don't feed) the animals
probably
I eat very little meat now

its a nice diversion from packing
are you moving?
sorry to disappear -- babble expert went on the fritz and crashed my computer
hi nan
yes
that's always stressful.
what is your moving day, ally?
80 to go
we are moving everything out on tuesday
I'm on my way if no clues are needed
googled babble expert and am now reading sprite's profile.
oh - that is quick. We have to be out by July 7 -- haven't started packing yet -- too busy renovating the new house
I used to be so good at moving. Now it would be a major operation.
I used to be able to call a moving company and have them pack us up and move us -- now that we are retired we are on our own -- there is something wrong with that!
i feel like i should be better at it, this is our 11th move in 15 years... but it is still awful
When I was single I would move all the time - pack up the hatchback and go.
try moving after living in one house for 25 years!
unthinkable
yikes, that would be hard.
I'm having a hard time believing we've been here that long -- we used to be transferred every 5-7 years. The time has gone by soooooo fast
2/3 done! woohoo
are you getting a dumpster nan?
But then as my hubby pointed out the other day, he is beginning his 18th year of retirement
my brother and sil are moving out of their house and she plans to just throw stuff out over a year's time.
No but Big Brothers and Got Junk have been here twice already
Got rid of a lot of stuff through Kijiji
nice
oooh, babble expert is nice
listing.
The big stuff is easy -- it's the little mementos that are hard to get rid of.
I would have a very hard time doing that. We have so much crap.
taking a break - back at the flip
bye everyone
bye nan
stepping away for evening walk.
have a good walk ally
thanks, it was a bit humid but nice
done!
have a good night!
