no matter how bad things ever get, at least i can find twisted up words in a grid of letters.
unless you can lose that with dementia or something... i had a dream last night that i was getting dementia. it wasn't clear to me whether i was older or by how much. i hope that's not something that's going to come true.
luckily there is NOT a history of it in my family.

Hi Kudi
And hello to Judi too.
13 Qs. What madness is this?
I didn't even notice. I just started in the upper left corner.
I found 8 Qs and am stuck now.
I have 6 of them and am stuck.
morning, babblers!
Hi Eva and Baby K
Hiya, Eva!
heya, hiya, hola!
Dr Scrabs - question for ya: do babies go through a sleep regression around 9 months?
What begins at about 9 months is separation anxiety and thus sleep problems.
would that affect staying asleep (or getting back to sleep during a nighttime wakeup)?
Babies must get attached to a security object other than a parent, e.g. stuffed animal or a doll. Bring it everywhere with him through the day.
And the first step to good sleep habits is that babies/kids must learn to fall asleep on their own, with their security object.
he has a little turtle that has his pacifiers attached to it. that goes everywhere with him + has for months.
If babies get help to fall asleep (parent, feeding) they will need that again with awakenings. We all wake up about every 3 hrs with sleep cycling.
Start limiting the pacifier to sleep only and get him attached to a stuffed animal. When he cries and when you pick him up say, "Here's Teddy. You're ok."
he has been sleeping through the night for the last coupla weeks, since he started feeling better. but the last 2 nights, he has woken up again...
And he isn't sick?
mostly, no. i think he is mildly congestion and STILL Has a bit of a cough. but nothing that hasnt been the case all along, even when he was sleeping well.
Does he protest (cry) when you walk out of his sight during the day?
he kinda always has, but if anything, i think it is less so than it used to be...for example, in the mornings, i leave him inside while i take everything else out to the car + come back for him. he used to cry when i did this, but now he is ok. he still doesnt like to be alone for more than a few minutes...
That is separation anxiety because he knows that when you disappear that you still exist = object permanence.
right. so do you think thats the issue at night?
Separation anxiety is worse overnight = longer period of separation, dark, needing to learn to put oneself that to sleep.
The keys = security object and he must learn to fall asleep on his own, in his crib, with that security object. No help from parents, or he will expect/need that with each awakening.
e.g. parents that continue to rock or feed their baby at bedtime will have a baby that expects that with each night awakening. So we see parents that feed their baby during the night just to get that baby to sleep. But after about 6 mo babies do not need to eat overnight.
so, our typical bedtime routine is diaper change (outfit change, if needed), inhaler, bottle, bed. that has been working for quite a while. hes awake (but sleepy) when placed in the crib. he usually rolls around to get comfy, but doesnt usually cry or fuss. once hes comfy, he settles down + is out like a light.
we also have a white noise machine, lullaby music + a humidifer with a nightlight that all only get used at bedtime so there are specific bedtime cues.
Move the feeding to an hour before bedtime and not in his room. We don't want babies to associate feeding with bedtime. Everything else is great--good routine/conditions/cues.
that might be the toughie. this little man is a feeding MACHINE. heh
What do you do during the night when he wakes up?
as much as possible, i try NOT to feed him, but usually that is the only thing that will settle him down.
i start out with just rubbing his back/patting his bottom - ideally, i dont want to pick him up. if that doesnt work, i will check to see if he needs a new diaper.
Honestly? I would just not go in at all
He is too old for night feedings and you don't want a trained night feeder, a baby that expects to be fed every time he wakes up.
i also try as much as possible not to speak or stimulate him in any way.
unless the crying escalated, I've let my kids figure out how to fuss themselves back to sleep
And during the day, when he fusses, ignore him for 1-2 minutes so he can practice self-settling/soothing. Anytime he cries just put that security object next to him. Make him think that Teddy/Doggy/Lamby is the best.
he has never, not one single time, been able to calm himself down from crying... i read once that there are 2 types of babies - some for whom crying is a release. they cry, then they settle. for others, crying just gets them more stimulated + they work themselves up and up. baby K is definitely the latter.
So he has to learn to self-soothe by practicing. Do not quickly respond to him when he fusses, or remind him that Teddy is with him.
yeah. i thought he had figured it out, since he has been sleeping so well since feeling better. still crossing my fingers that the last 2 nights were a fluke + hes still doing ok.
yeah. i thought he had figured it out, since he has been sleeping so well since feeling better. still crossing my fingers that the last 2 nights were a fluke + hes still doing ok.
I say this with A LOT of love, because it's so so hard: my nephew was the same way, no self soothing abilities at all, always needed to be comforted back to sleep, and still is that way at 4. His little sister was the same way, until her exhausted parents changed their strategy and let her figure it out. Now my 18 month old niece sleeps great, much much better than her older brother who never learned.
There is absolutely a personality component, kids are all different, but they can all learn!
but if it's just two nights in a row I'm sure it's just a little phase, maybe teething?
Yes, I see kids that at older ages, even 8 years old, "need" a parent next to them to fall asleep. Or older kids co-sleeping. Kids are not equal to their parents and parents need their private space.
possibly - he has 6 already, but his day care teachers said they think more are coming in. he doesnt really let us in there to get a good look. heh
momma just needs to tough it out. ive actually started to feel halfway-human again, getting decent rest. heh
I wouldn't advise digging in there, I almost lost a finger with my little dude the other day. :)
qu 6/27, first one, pls
hah! makes me wonder how those super-mamas continue to nurse once little one has teeth!
Teething is vastly overrated as a cause of discomfort. Older kids/teen get 28-32 adult teeth. Do they complain of pain? No.
My first qu6 = unit of volume measurement + vowel.
My daughter was adopted at 8 weeks. Sle slept 12 hours a night and cried all day
sine *** non + poetic before
tyvm Byz
other than being a drooly mess, teething doesnt seem to have upset him too much
gonna give it a few more days to see if its just a fluke or if its something that needs to be addressed.
I definitely noticed disrupted sleep with molars, but overall my kids were champs with teeth
TY, Byzantine.
baby K cut his first 2 teeth without me even noticing. lol
my 15 mo old already has all his baby teeth, lol. They came in fast and furious,
hello all
heh, yeah. K cut all 4 top front teeth at once
2nd column bottom e?

hi mael ty
hi! I'm having trouble with the last qu7
Some of my fondest memories is seeing a distressed baby hold her arms straight up when I walked into her room in a dark and lonely night.
one who asks
oh thanks!
too many vowels in this grid :)
gotta run to a mtng. thx for the advice/feedback, all!
isn't that que?
yep
Bye Eva
bye eva, good luck!
Yes, Byzantine, it is sweet to soothe a distressed child.
got it
em7?
hah, I don't know about that when you're in the trenches. My son got a good fever from his last round of shots and was a clingy mess all weekend. Couldn't wait to drop his off at daycare today, phew. I've had my fill of being yelled at. :)
poor thing maeil
mael
True, mael, it can be exhausting, especially when the child cannot be easily comforted.

Found all the q's! Those were interesting.

good luck Eva and enjoy!
stats for 4th column E pls
I think it may be em7/32
just found an EM 5/12 for that E - will look for EM7 - but you helped me find the EM 5
there is an em 5/16 as well as the em 5/12. The 7 is a plural of the 5/16
yes the plural of the em7/32 is the plural of the em5/16,
chrisk is right.
funnily enough the plural comes before the singular......that may be confusing.
