I have a query for any cat people here. I have a 13 year old male cat who has been losing weight since about April. His eating habits are still normal. Still peeing and pooping like a champ. No vomiting or bowel problems. No fever, no runny eyes. He is alert and not in any pain. Any clues as to what the weight loss may be attributed to?

In my experience, this is usually normal for older cats
at any rate, a vet visit is in order.
I brought my 14 yr old cat to the vet with same problem, he told me as they get older, like us, they lose muscle mass
My cat now eats about 4 cans of food a day, and barely retains her weight, but she also has reduced kidney function
as long as eating and drinking and bathrooming remains the same, I was told not to worry
It could be diabetes.
Hmm. I am taking him to the vet on Monday. I have read that older cats can drop weight/muscle mass. However, I can feel his ribs. This cat has always been a hefty boy (not obese, but not starving).
You can bring him to the vet for piece of mind, but most kitties will lose wight as they age, like us
The only mildly different thing is that he was shedding like crazy all summer. However, he does like to spend most of his time outside (in spite of the heat).

If the weight loss wasn't so drastic, I wouldn't be so concerned. But I'd say he's a good 5 lbs lighter than he was in April.
That is a huge amount of weight loss for a cat.
That is a lot of weight for a cat to lose. That is not just from getting older.
I fear the worse, but we'll see what blood testing reveals (besides a drastic weight loss in my wallet).
Fingers crossed that it's not major. I have 6 cats and I know the expense but I love them all.
