i am down to 3 and stuck....guess i will list...
i am done....what a tedious grid!
Still here, penquis?
scrabs!....how was your trip?
Penquis! My head is still in Maine and ANP. I love Maine!
cool!....glad you enjoyed your visit...
We drove up Rte 1 after Brunswick and stopped in Bucksport for lunch then in Castine (recommended by Babbler nrkii) for a walk. ANP is a special place.
oh, darn!....if i knew you were driving up the coast, i would have tried to connect with you....i am about an hour and 15 minutes up the coast from Brunswick....
We biked 24 miles on the carriage roads, walked out on the bar at low tide to Bar Island, kayaked on Long Pond, Northeast Creek, and Eagle Lake, and hiked The Beehive, Great Head, Ocean Path, Gorham Mtn, and Pemetic Mtn.
wow, you were an active tourist!
And there is so much more to do there--more places to paddle, to hike, and to bike. We saw 3 eagles too.
nice...
My vacations are always about being active outdoors. I called this trip Acadia Boot Camp.
hah!....preparation for a return trip?
I plan to return someday, with my sisters and cousins. Now I know the geography well and can plan our days.
for sure....
I would go the week after Labor Day as last weekend and Monday were crazy. United Nations on MDI.
yes, and September is usually quite nice here....fewer tourists than the months of July and August....
And there is so much more to see and do in Maine--paddling and hiking. I am sad that I live so far away though. 12 hour drive to MDI.
yes, it is a long drive...the midcoast is nice, too....from Bath to Searsport is considered the midcoast...
We were told about paddling on the Penobscot River in Damariscotta.
Yes, and that is a nice community.....a little artsy in a nice way....
No, that is the Damariscotta River there.
We drove 95 on the way back.
we have the Georges River Land Trust here in the midcoast.....you should check out their website...
Nice website. Is that the St George River in town?
I found more info.
the St. George does go by Thomaston...
There are so many ponds and lakes to portage amongst. We have ultralightweight hybrid canoes. We sit on the bottom of a 10-foot canoe and use a double-ended paddle. The canoe is made of Kevlar so weights 15 lbs.
cool....yes, Maine has lots of lakes and ponds....and woods!
And so many oak trees.
and maples and pines and lots of other trees.. ;o)
Spruce dominated Pemetic Mtn trails.
lost me there...
That trail and mtn were covered with spruce trees.
And I was fascinated with the geology of MDI. I found a great book which I am reading.
ah....do you canoe only on lakes and rivers?
Quiet water paddling. Maybe in the ocean if the water were calm.
here some people do sea kayaking....
Yes, we saw many cars with sea kayaks on top--16-17 feet long. We met a couple from Boston, ages 81 and 78, that have been going to MDI for 20 yrs to sea kayak. They inspired us so much.
i bet!
in Rockland you can also go rowing in the harbor with one of those long wooden boats with multiple rowers....
or go on a sail....
I know people that take cruises, on schooners I think, from Rockland. Windjammer?
yes....there are day trips and overnight trips up to a week or just a little less...
very large sailing vessels...
30 left. I have to work on laundry from my trip, then will hike. Say hello to Maine for me.
will do!...bye...
say hello to broadway for me
hi ru....i was just leaving....don't want to look at this awful grid anymore than i have had to this morning....
bye all...hope you enjoy this grid more than i did... ;o)
morning all! left column done
morning dan. 2 left.
Hello, all.
Oh dear Lord. Irma is top news here. I'm praying for minimum damage to people & infrastructure.
hah, I actually tried "prume" without thinking about it, which is what my daughter, at three, still calls prunes
((Soodle))
I still have no sixes, any clues?
ab6 short
thanks, got it!
t +town area
Lol Mael!! My kids always called chicken goujons 'chicken gougers'. (Gouger is Irish slang for gangster/bad guy). I mortified myself in a butchers shop recently asking for a dozen gangsters/bad guys!
Aren't you speaking to me , soodle?
Well, hello Jaxx!!! Long time no see! Delighted to sed you :-)
See...
I have had a bad two years and I still have one more op to go. I tried to e-mail you but my PC wouldn't accept your e-mail address.
haha soodle, kids are hilarious. She's incredibly articulate but we have intentionally not corrected her when she persists in making adorable mistakes, like aminals instead of animals.
thats weird! Try :- biddyearly@me.com, Jaxx.
thats weird! Try :- biddyearly@me.com, Jaxx.
My daughter asked for brocott once and that stuck too!
Brocotti
that's a great one
Mael, spaghetti bolognaise in this house is still referred to as sketti & sauce. The residents of the house are 27,&22!!
I will try that e-mail, soodle.
hah! she still calls all pasta "noo-noos" from when she couldn't say noodles
Please do, Jaxx. We have a lot to catch up on. I'm really sorry you've had a rough couple of years. ((((Hugs)))
We had a guest house when we were young. It was just as dried mash came in. We called that slosh because that is how mum put it on the plates
Dried mash.... ''''shudder'''i
I hope I remember all of these long after they're grown
what is dried mash (if i dare ask...)
Thanks, soodle. there were times when I didn't think I was going to make it, to be honest. The op for endometrial cancer was OK but the one for colonic cancer was a nightmare and I am still feeling the effects nearly 12 months on. still only one left to go next week and I can relax.
In this country we call it Smash. Dried flakes of potato that are reconstituted by adding boiling water.
oh gosh my mom used to use those, yuk
This was before they got the hang of it - a new idea. To this day (and I am 71) we call it slosh. My dad used to say sshh the guests will hear you. What if they did? They wouldn't know what it was.
oh, we call it puree in Italy and I kinda miss it sometimes
but my mum reconstituted them with milk and butter which improved the consistency a little
It is much improved now. Then it was horrible
i use the dried flakes sometimes to thicken soup
jaxx, I am so sorry to hear you've been unwell. Fingers crossed that this op takes care of the rest!
Now that is a good idea.
It has been harrowing but as one nurse said I'm pragmatic and take life as it comes. Something I learned from dealing with my late son.
My dear husband has taken over the house as I just couldn't do anything. he is roasting duck for tea.
One of the worst things was not being able to sit long enough to use my computer. I couldn't play babble, I couldn't send e-mails and I couldn't use facebook.
I must away as he has just called me. Best wishes to you all.
best wishes to you as well, good luck next week!

“A harbor master is in charge of berth control.â€
Say what?
I wonder if harbor masters ever get docked for pay?
Or are affected by pier pressure in their decisions?
or have to explain they do not deal with pharmaceuticals
