Why Nellie? She is my favorite bad girl from Little House on the Prairie - I used her as a clue on Babble two years ago, and never changed my icon after that!

I am a former Babble addict... recovering, I guess you could say. I took a year off, and now I'm no longer compelled to do the whole grid every day and follow it up with hours of cluing. I have reclaimed a small piece of my personal life!

Anyone looking for a good way to warm up your brain before Babbling, I recommend the games at www.theproblemsite.com. They're quick, and they let you flex your mental muscles a few different ways. I especially recommend the puzzles behind the "Quote Puzzler" link, where you can find my favorites: Word Builder and Top Letters and In-and-Out.

Recipe for Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffins

Preheat oven to 350
Grease muffin tin

In a large bowl combine:

1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp clove
1/4 tsp allspice
1/4 tsp salt

In second bowl beat two eggs. Stir in 1 cup of canned pumpkin and 1 stick melted butter.

Add dry ingredients and stir until just moistened.

Stir in 1 cup chocolate chips. Spoon into muffin tins and bake 20 - 25 minutes.

Notes: recipe calls for whole wheat pastry flour, but I've used regular all purpose and it's fine

2 cups of chocolate chips makes this even better

Ghiradelli chocolate chips makes it perfect

Recipe for Broiled Grapefruit

1 ruby red grapefruit
2 Tbsp brown sugar
2 Tbsp honey

Cut grapefruit in half
Shave a small bit off round part of both halves, so they will sit flat in a pan
Put both halves in a pan (I put a foil bowl around the bottom and sides of them to keep the pan from getting sticky)

Section and carve the insides to your heart's content, but don't let the knife pierce through the skin.

Add brown sugar and honey to the top of each half.

Broil for about 10-15 minutes, till the top is nicely singed and gooey.

Often the syrup falls off and runs under the grapefruit, so I transfer the grapefruit to a bowl and pour the goo on top from the foil.
