80/860
71/1064
signing-off with 74/1149 Haven't yet found many 70s worth more than 40. I did find one though worth 48. G'Night everyone!
oops...meant to say "7s" not "70s"
There are around 320 words in this puzzle.
Heading to bed with 110/4.78/1446. Best is a nine for 66; starts with E.
For that 9 tipped by runningforhome, you've got plenty of e's to choose from...
Also a 9 for 72, starts with a different vowel.
I was *just* going to mention that 9 for 72!
Good Morning, I am getting an early start today. A clue for the 9/72 and the 9/66 would make my day. :)
Good morning. The most I have so far is 7/40
No 7's yet. What does yours start with youngster, please.
h
and its the plural of 6/27
I've got five 7's
Thanks, I already had the 6/27 but forgot to make it plural.
Found another 7, youngster, starts with S.
haven't found it yet, but found one beginning with t
don't have the 7 starting with T yet but lots of sixes.
10x6s
just got a 7 s
stopping for now, work to do.
There's an 8 for 50 starting with S.
i8 ... space between things i9 ... plural of i8 i9 ... area of low-lying land
190 / 5.14 / 3143 There's millions more than this I feel but so far I've got: 9 - 1 for 72 8 - 3 for 50,55,50 7 - 24 for 36,36,36,36,36,48,36,36,28,40,48,40,40,28,28,36,28,28,40,36,40,40,28,28

A 7 / 8 singular and plural version of a fish - hooray for fish!
OK, so i'm doing rubbish but here's my word count anyway: 108 / 1624 A x 5 B x 12 C x 5 E x 2 H x 18 I x 4 L x 14 P x 10 R x 5 S x 21 T x 8 V x 4
A x 15 H x 29 I x 7
Hi shortseer!
why it's ash and sini !
100 words 4.74 1211 Whoa, I was long time stuck in 98 words... Could we change that one l into t, please?

Just combine the right 4-4 words together and you'll get: 2x B8 words Add an s and you'll also have : 2x B9 words
ach! stuck on 122 words. i'll come back later when my brain recharges. could someone post their letters please?
Bx 22 P x 19
So you do! Thanks Shortseer :) I would never have found those!
yes ... i wasn't really expecting them to work when i tried them out :D
Thanks for the clue shortseer - those are mad words aren't they??!
I just found i for 8 and i for 9!!!!!!!!1
There are two i9s - shortseer gave clues to them both earlier
Considering the points they provide, i rather like those words ;)
Goodness, there's another (equally mad) 8 and another 9 word using the second part of those other 4+4 words...
L8/L9 sequence Narcotic alkaloid extracted from a plant that starts with L (or you can just join 2x 4-letter words together to get it)
um ... snap!
Ha! Now I don't have to look up what it means either!
Thanks Kirsty. But I was soooooo excited finding them on my own. Now I have to look for the third one. Dang :)
Aww sorry fit1 - I *so* know that feeling! Still, if you've got one you'll get the other...
Thanks for the help on the 2x4 letter b and l words. never would have tried those combos myself
what a lovely grid! poe would be so happy.
9 for 66 starting with e
I'm fairly new to this page and I have a question of ethics - what is the consensus here about use of solvers for puzzles like this? I just did a quick google search and found a solver that has had today's puzzle entered into it twice already...
how cool - it shows that? basically, if you use it to find out how many words are poss./what the lengths are & how many say 8 or 9 letter words there are, that's okay. if you use it to find a word, you're cheating yourself and why bother to play.
using a solver to cheat is a waste of time. it makes it boring and takes the challenge out of the game. nobody gets too annoyed - its pretty obvious when people do it and it doesn't really affect anyone else. (unless you're really uptight about your ranking!!!)
just realized i've been here nearly an hour. oops! 118/1664. guess that's fair - 2 words a minute or so.
Krys10 - It was probably entered into that solver by me and runningforhome. We both use it to see the total number of words. I also have scripts that I use from it to calculate words per length and words per starting letter. When I saw that there were ~300 words today I knew I didn't have time to do it justice and decided not to even start playing, but was just checking in to see how others are doing. Oh, and I do publish the word length and starting letter stats to help all when I calculate them. ;) So, most days you'll find it solved by at least 2 people. :-D
Makes sense - I never would have thought to even do a search until Youngster asked about it yesterday.
If 'cowpie' is a word, 'bullpie' should be too! That's discrimination!
any clues for the E9? Am completely stuck on it!
any clues for the E 9 please
Where are these solvers? Just curious.....
Whoo, found the E9, while trying to squeeze in an E8...
which E? Which E?
EB...
I have three 9s... am I missing any?
isn't it wierd - that E9 was immediately so obvious when you said EB Christine :)
yup - you're missing 3 at least
Oh, pooh! I hoped I had them... I have E66, and two Is for 72.. the first was a misspelling that worked out - who knew?
you're missing the 3 that shortseer gave good clues for earlier ;)
Oh, rats ... 8 trillion posts to read... back later.
I checked shortseer's post, and I have the two 9s mentioned, and the EB; so I think I'll call someone to have lunch... come back with a full tummy and a recharged brain (direct connection).
Shortseer's 7:39 and 8:16 posts ..... :)
So I raced pell-mell to type in pell to the grid and it wasn't accepted ! hmph !
....and yet it will take (hyper)-bole ! Ah me, why do I do puzzles ? Got to keep the brain cells well exercised :-D
any clues for the EB word?
i just can't get the 9 word, narcotic that starts 'line..' !
people who work with me say I am Eb... actually that I am too eb....... it's someone who is somewhat lively and cheery
Is there more than 3 9s
oh, thank you dimwit! (am now eb...)
i've found 5 9s; the clues are scattered throughout the message log. its late where i am so i'm off to bed goodnight all! 157 / 2825
I have 5 x i's - has anyone a clue for the other 9 letter that is not a plural of an 8 letter ?
I think the other i (non-plural) was posted earlier as an area of low lying land.. (good luck, i'm still trying to figure it out.)
It's really similar to the i-8/9 combo.
I have EB9, I9 and a B9,which ones are missing
There's another b-9 and another i-9, at least.
Britneysdead @ 3.31 pm said there was a narcotic, L9 beginning with line... This foxed me, because it doesn't..
Sorry should have said it's an L8, with plural L9.
So it does start with L, but not with 'line'?
Yes
Thank you runningforhome and Juliet, your combined clues got me the last ix9
... shortseer arrives back to try to finish babbling and reads: At 10:24 am jlm_mi said...
When I saw that there were ~300 words today I knew I didn't have time to do it justice and decided not to even start playing, but was just checking in to see how others are doing.
GASP!!! No word breakdown from jlm today ... Damn damn damn! :( Okaaay ... that makes things more difficult. Well, what about all the 8/9 words? Anybody got more to add to the following list : --------------------- i8 ... space between things i9 ... plural of i8 i9 ... area of low-lying land (between valleys!) --------------------- B8/B9 B8/B9 Just combine the right 4-4 words together and you'll get: 2x B8 words Add an s and you'll also have : 2x B9 words --------------------- L8/L9 sequence Narcotic alkaloid extracted from a plant that starts with L (or you can just join 2x 4-letter words together to get it) --------------------- E9 someone who is somewhat lively and cheery E8 people involved in voting -------------------- S8 fabric S8 rowers S8 fishies! ----------------
Oh my goodness. I found the non plural i 9. so now I have the eb, the iplural, the i non plural, the b, and I'm stuck on the l 8/9. But I'd say i'm making progress :)
Hey steady on shortseer - too much too soon for a befuddled late night brain to take in there !:-{
@dimwit sunday morning here ... i've had a night's sleep and am now de-befuddlerised ;)
Wow, are you in Australia or something ?

You might want to go angling for the Cottidae family of fishies ...
may I have a clue for the B8/B9. I can't seem to find the right words to connect.
not the real meaning ... but have you ever heard the expression "the thin ---- ----" for when law enforcement officers are stetched to the limit? That should give you one of the B8/9s
never heard of that expression but will keep trying. Is the first part a color?
shortseer, I got it. I remembered the expression. Thanks so much.
the other B8/9 .. again, not right meaning ... but what would you be left with on your body if you'd had your trousers' holderer-upperer secured too tightly? ;)
shortseer, what an interesting clue. I will try to figure it out. Thanks.
shortseer. It didn't take me long. I found them. Thank you soo much. :)

Help with the i9 word... i'm going crazy trying to figure it out...
Lots of other words ... Yes, well going by an early post of runningforhome, i too can't see a lot of words :(
change a letter at the end of the other one......
can't find the r8. care to share the 2nd letter please? i would be most grateful.
Juliet - you have the I8/9, and are missing the other I9, right? If so, just change the last letter on your 9.
ra, I used Google to find it.
thanks periwinkle :) did you ever hear of this word?
I have a/ 5 for 16 which is part of the name for a wild plant, field or water a.... perhaps it is the same as one of yours shortseer with another description ?
Oh yes, I just scrolled down and see you have.
sounds like it, dimwit (not that i actually know this plant in Real Life)
I have some in my garden, quite nice, little yellow flowers:0
Christin - thanks for the hint.. worked great!
Hmmm -- heard of the S-fabric, but with a difference in the spelling - a C in the middle...
That s fabric word stumped me for a bit too.. tough one
I cannot find the fabric yet either, but I found a word for rainforest whilst looking , a 5 for 16
don't forget that you can have more than one rainforest ;)
Are u saying there is another in the grid ? The one I found said it was a tropical one. ( I thought they all were)
Ah, see what you mean ...
if you can have tundra/tundras , then ....
This has been such a fun grid! So many neat words. And I've only got about a third of them... :-\
ah i see you already see what i mean
yes, very interesting words in this one. Could I have the second letter for the s8 fabric please, it's not showing itself and I have to retire for the night soon..
sa
Ta sleeky, I have it at last :)
Oh, please I have five 9s - 2Bs, one E, and two Is..... tell me there're no more, please....
Periwinkle and Marigold -- is that a memorial candle, for your Mum?
Whoo.... forgot to pluralise the L8... so now I have six 9s..... 172 for 2963, and I don't know what I'm missing. It's 8:15pm in Los Angeles, and soooo hot - I love L.A.
So far I have.... 233 words 5.21 for 4101points They are: A 15 P 18 B 24 R 18 C 17 S 42 E 7 T 13 H 29 V 10 I have a total of (6) 9 pointers, (9) 8 pointers and (22) 7 pointers. I have to thank many of you for some of them, especially shortseer. You are too generous. I 7 L 29 N 1 O 3
No worries, Dave ... i'm collecting good karma today ;) I see i'm missing 2x B's I have 11x BE 4x BL 7x BO Can you tell me where your extra ones are?
Short...you have two BO's that I don't have! You are missing one BL and three BU's. Now I gotta search for those other BO's!!! I just found two more c's....one was a seven for 36 and the other an eight for 50.
Shortseer...my BO's are points as follows: 4,4,4,6,7. What are yours? The BU's are: 4,6,7.
Haven't finished with the C's yet, so can't compare. *Locks torture room C* *Opens up torture room B* Well my pretty B's ... you've been holding out on me. It's back onto the torture rack for you B's. Muwhaahaha
@dave you are missing a fungus, singular and plural 6,7 after the first 4
Got the fungi, short.......how you makin out with the BU's? Any clue on that rainforest one? Starting letter?
got the 3 BU's .. somehow the Bu's had escaped their torture rack session ;) -------------- rainforest : s---a
The last words-per-letter count was at 7:38. Does anyone have more than 201 words, and would be willing to post their counts?
What, what, ... I have two BUs - a projectile, and an animal... there's a third??
There's also a prefix on the animal word.
A prefix on a BU wouldn't be another BU word. :) But if I hadn't put a smiley on this, I might be classified as the third BU word. I might anyway, I guess.
A *suffix* on the animal word.
So far I have.... 242 words with an avg. of 5.25 points for a total of 4354 points. They are: A 15 B 26 C 19 E 10 H 29 I 7 L 29 N 1 O 3 P 18 R 18 S 44 T 13 V 10 I have a total of (6) 9 pointers, (10) 8 pointers and (25) 7 pointers.
Thanks for posting that DaveC.

You're welcome mulh... Shortseer.....is the second letter on that rainforest a vowel or a consonant? :)
S61
row 1 S 36 row 3 S 25
I'm not very good....this is my best puzzle ever. I am usally almost a hundred shy of the mark. :) Let's just say I spent too much time on this one.
Could I have a clue on the fungus, please? There was a rainforest clue a few down, that pretty much spells it out. ;-)
DaveC, since i've taken so many hints from you this evening, i'll jump in with the second letter you are looking for... it's an E
20 minutes
