Sleep well, Flosey
cooee and g'day from me
Hi and hugs Rose - lovely to catch you but I'm only here for another few minutes.
How are you both?
don is much improved, thanx. i'm still coasting along. not too much pain at the moment. how are you both?
Goodmorning! Yay, l was hoping for a big one
Very well - enjoying our mini heat wave.
Hi and hugs Ruby - I saw your good news last week. Very happy for you.
lolll.... that's our ruby.... in with a rush. hello dear friend
I'd just love a small grid tomorrow - anything under 100 - I've only got an hour to complete it.
In with a faulty space bar!
Perfect fall weather here, but l wouldn't mind some of your heat wave
No rain; though, and there are still lots of flowers
Thankfully it didn't reach the predicted high today but it's not been humid and that's just fine.
Hello Rosie a,nd Liz.
*pricks up ears* good news ?? what good news, ruby??
Rose, thank Don for his lesson on snakes;
The cancer is stable
House deal is done, all is well

Hi ruby
Busy lady Rose
good morning all
and there she is, morning sprite
woot, nice sized grid
*hugs Maisie and rose*
hugs sprite and rose back
How was your restful day yesterday
delightful. I finished the autumn leaves and got a nice start on the owls. Feel much more human now.
It's amazing how much you do, Rose, throuigh your pain!
cooeeeeee rose, quit chasing that squirrel and join us in chog :)
back tothis delicious grid!
Just came in to shut down babble - realised I hadn't and see you Sprite - hugs, my friend. Hope all's well with you and yours.
how was your day, Maisie? And how are you this morning?
hugsssss sprite. just fetching soething to eat. raisin/fruit toast. yum !!
*hugs Liz* Lovely to see you! We are all fine here, thanks. Thank you for your sweet email.
Lovely day yesterday. Fine as usual. No babies today so easy day for me
Well it was so thoughtful of you.
*hugs rose* Empty that mouth before speaking, hun, you are being rather generous with them raisins.
you and your beloved are on my mind often, Liz :)
missed you yesterday, rose! Great to see you now. How have you been and how are you? And how is Don?
sorry sprite. what was that? couldn't hear through my munching..loll
Aw - that's lovely. Anyway got to go. Back on Sunday. Hugs.
glad you had a good time with the lil'uns, Maisie. And nice to have a restful day now, I bet ;)
bye Liz, have a blessed time.
Sometimes seems too quiet when they are gone but yesterday was bedk
Thanks - not an easy day but feel good at the end.
don is much improved. hardly coughing at all. i'm doing okay.
*sends Liz some extra energy to get through it all*
I am really glad, rose. And how about you some more, please? What does okay mean? Where are you re pain and stamina? Are you sleeping the night through now?
will carry on ! yesterday was bedlam when they were all round at the same time, so excited to see each other and my son brought his dog who was excited to see us. Mad house
Just cut the heatwave would be good! But that ain't going to happen. There'll be water in the car for after and that's the important thing. Really going now. Hugs.
oh I can picture it, Maisie! Total madness. But heartwarming.
We need Don to get better , he has all those photos to sort that we are dying to see
*hugs Liz*
didn't sleep properly last night. bad dreams which kpt waking me up. taking it easy, using tens machine, pain meds when i need.
*sends rose a whole big bunch of everything she needs* It might take a little while for you to start settling too, after the whole overtaxing bit with Don ill.
When people say they are OK it usually means they're not, poor rose, I feel for you
'zacly, Maisie
i think you're right.
ain't I always *modest smile*
we understand her sprite so she's not getting away with anything
true, Maisie!
Was that a raisin she just spat at you sprite
*removes raisin from eye* Why yes, so it was!
well it was well chewed Maisie, it won't hurt her.
I just knew she'd do that
Its three weeks today till I go to China
oh wow Maisie... counting down... lots of things to do still, no doubt?
hey, it's better than a forked stick....lolll
given the choice, I'd say so too, rose. Thank you for small favours.
Yes I'm wondering how to pack as we are on a tour, 2 days here, 4 days there etc. Must have been a nightmare for your grand tour rose
our rose is incontinent with her mouth. She is really special.
hahahaha
You mean you get wet when she talks?
wet and sprayed with raisins
of course she means that. it wasn't sea spray when we sat out on that deck.
lol
I think rose did a very smart job of packing during her tour.
nope, not salty, indeed.
I don't think I've got enough clothes for a grand tour
the hardest part was keeping up with the clean knickers.
staying a week in my vicinity might help, Maisie *hint hint*. I'll wash your knickers.
Yes that is a problem, when I was younger I worked at Dorothy Perkins and we sold paper knickers, a bit like J cloths. Could do with some of them so long as they don't rustle when you walk
as for you Maisie. take very little, and buy all tose gorgeous clothes over there
as for you Maisie. take very little, and buy all tose gorgeous clothes over there
Nice offer sprite
Don't know if we'll have time to hit the shops we had a very full itinerary
watch it, Maisie. she makes a mean sangria spiker
have!
oh good advice, rose! Silk clothes, for almost nothing, so nice to wear when it is hot!
Ooh sounds nice, very tempting
true, dat. Worth visiting me for, for sure ;)
Any caravan sites near yu sprite
tour managers know about the cheap shopping. they usually leave you some time to shop.
absolutely, Maisie
I'll make sure I have enough money then
Only thing on shopping list so far is a panda for Millie (4 year old granddaughter) when we visit the panda breeding centre
awwwww so sweet! I hope she'll be content with a plush one.
Me too, wouldn't want to arrive back with a case full of panda poop
Take some old underclothes that you can discar along the way. Limit colrs. Layer! Two pairs of shoes. Old socks
*giggles* The mind images are killing me, Maisie!
I'm going to do that ruby, saving all my holy knickers to take and bin
and you don't want to know where my mind goes when I read 'holy knickers'
lol
When l travelled forwork, l was still a runner, and used to take holey t-shirts to toss.
perhaps I should have put an 'e' in that word
nah, this way was more fun
tossing all my old clothes away would leave plenty of room for silk
don's cousin said the sheep we sent her was busting for a poop when she unwrapped it. now it is out in the paddocks, teaching the scottish sheep to bleat with a aussie accent.
awwww rose. Good job. That aussie accent is to die for.
holy knickers.... are they the ones you wear on the sabbath ?? loll
I think they are the ones Jesus wore.
I love accents, must look out for an Aussie baaing sheep next time I go to Scotland
I have enough holy knickers to wear every day not just on the sabbath
I got the sweetest compliment while on the retreat. A fellow OA'er wanting to know where I came from, because my accent was not german but she couldn't place it, and she could he4 I spent quite some time in England.
which I never have, but still hope to do some day!
holy kni kers sounds like a Batman erxpression
I never thought about language when you were talking about the retreat, can you speak German as well as you can English
hey i was gonna say that ruby. lolll
It does doesn't it ruby
no, my german is rusty. I can understand it fine, but speaking is a bit messy.
Good be a new babblers curse, everytime something goes wrong we shout holy knickers
*grins* works for me
So what language was used because I thought the retreat was in Germany
That should have read could not good
it was a region 9 retreat, so the language was english for the meetings and speakers. Amongst ourselves it was anything from french to german, dutch, flemish... a true babel of languages.
we got you, Maisie, no worries
are all those languages similar enough to understand each other
no, not if you haven't studied them. Flemish and Dutch are closest, we can understand most of what the other says. Then german, but that takes study to learn. French is even more different. French is closer to spanish and italian, but again, it would take study to learn to understand properly.
It always strikes me as strange that you have a line drawn on a map that separates countries and people speak differently either side of that line
it is a bit strange, true. And you will often find that around that border, people speak both languages. Even stranger is the situation in Belgium, where people are not separated by any border but still fight passionately when it comes to the language difference between flemish and french.
I'd love to be bi-lingual but I'm lazy being English, always expect everyone else to speak my language
most people in europe will, I guess. To get more world coverage, I'd recommend spanish as your second language. That should get you almost everywhere.
Its the pronunciation that gets me, I read Dora the Explorer to Millie and that has some Spanish words in it, bet I don't say them right
it will take a bit of practice to get the pronunciation going. In any language, for that matter. But you don't have to have perfect pronunciation for the other party to understand you. Thank God :)
yes thank God. Must make more of an effort. I found when I was in Marseilles I could understand a fair bit but didn't know enough to respond
it is something really rewarding. People are often so happy when you speak a bit of their language.
I'm thrilled you speak mine or there would be no conversation at all lol
and don't feel awkward asking a local how to say something in their language.
roflol!
true, rose. They are often delighted to be able to tell you. People take pride in their language, or so I have found.
Is there a story behind that comment
the smiles i received when i asked, then said the word to them was amazing.
It shows you take an interest which makes people feel good
if you want a story, I have one, Maisie... my biggest blunder in babble ever. Wanna he4?
Well i must be off, can't do nothing all day. Enjoy the rest of your day/evening and see you tomorrow. How do you say goodbye in Australian rose?
a sometimes laughter as i mispronounced a word, and then the pleased look when i got it right.
g'day mate!
Oh must stay ans hear that, go on the sprite
have a blessed day, Maisie *hugs*
oh okay :)
Not going till I hear your story
we were talking jobs and contracts, and bonuses... and I wrote 'french benefits'. Everyone laughed so hard and I did not understand at all. Until they told me it was 'fringe benefits' and my version sounded rather dubious :)
ooroo, see ya later, alligator. xoxox
oh I like ooroo! Haven't gotten to the O yet.
lol sprite. In a while crocodile rose. and poof
*hugs Maisie on her way out*
roflolll, almost as good as my babble mistype.
byeee Maisie. have a lovely day honey
I still blush when I tell it, lol
how does your tomorrow look, rose? Do you have time for yourself?
public hoiday he4 tomorrow, so no Thom's Place. but Saturday, grand final day is going to be busy.
hm okay. Please use tomorrow well then, to rest up?
main aim is not to get up until i want to... brekky in bed, anyone?
good idea. Time for Don to take care of you :)
honey, i'm becoming quite tired and can't fall into bed as it is still in complete disarray as it was linen change day. i think i had better go and make it with the clean linen. luvsya heaps. xoxox
my tomorrow is rather busy. But if I go shopping today, I can start the slowcooker before going to my sponsor, and that will make a lot of difference.
luvsya right back, my dear friend. *hugs* and take care... make sure Don helps you with making that bed!
will do. catch you next flip. enjoy this yummy grid.
it is good, isn't it! :)
and that makes fireflies for me. Bye all.
Goood morning all....
good morning!!! 3:26 am, should still be sawing logs!! - perhaps will get dozie again - enough to get a bit more sleep!
have a busy day ahead, will be off island most of day,
Hi Flosey...there's nobody chatting this morning...all too busy...lol
don't blame anyone, doesn't seem to be a very easy grid for 313 words!!! will do what I can
Finally a big grid!
Hello Scrabbler. l'm happy to see you and to have a lovely big grid for a change.
I have to work all day but I can relax this evening by typing away.
My friend took me down tlo the garden as l'lm reluctant to go alone for fear of falling
How is autumn progressing there? Do you still have flowers?
we picked raspberries, one fig (!), quince to perfume the kitchen
Raspberries are my favorite berry.
There are still roses, buddleia, sedum, geraniums, kalinchoe and other plants whose names l don't know
Figs are my favorite fruit and even though a bird had taken a bite, we shared the rest.
I still have new sunflowers blooming but all of my other flowers have dried out and the leaves are falling.
The raspberries were delshipicious though few in number. It's very hard to buy them because they're both too expensive and too fragile to
The birds always plant a few sunflowers in one flower bed, in gratitude for my feeding them (l guess).
delicious* marbles are gone!
I plant sunflower seeds every spring.
The weather l buy huge sacks and between them and having a fishpone and no cats, the property is Parzdise for birds
I had better stop typing; my post make no sense!
posts*
I have 6 feeders, front and back, and 4 suet feeders front and back. And I have 3 hummingbird feeders and an oriole feeder. I keep my birds happy.
4:am back to bed hopefully an hour or 2 more sleep
I read an article in the NYT yesterday that large praying mantises eat hummingbirds!
Sleep well, flosey.
Yikes, Ruby.
I only have one feeder in sight of the kitchrn winddows but also keep sunflower seeds in a wheelbarrow in the open garagge, a bird buffet
Of course, squirrels (grey and red) and chipmunks enjoy the seeds too.
The scientists whoe discovered it wwere both shocked and delighted to show that unusual cognitive behavior.
You can probably find the article online
Yes, good idea.
If not, l ccan ssend itt
I will find it. There must be massive mantises to eat a hummer.
They only eat the brain (maybe that's why they're so smart) and also their husbands (alssoi quite smart -- hahah)
Very clever.
l had no idea that therre were so many kinds
I keep the house open all the time for tthe dogs and yesteerday there was a very large and beautiful spider
I rregretted having to kill it, but l was afraid to catch it
It moved too quickly
I saw a massive spider outside last Saturday and did research. It was a Carolina wolf spider.
I always bring spiders outside if I find them inside.
Those are hairy, right?
The legs were fuzzy.
I used to feed an argiopde tthat lived on the "vigne vierge". I learned to catch live flies
argiope* European garden spider, yellow, orange, whiye, black and Brown, spots and stripes. I named her Caliope
Pls forgive the terrible typing
I hate to kill anything
Was probably a Buddhist in a former life (hahah), a very Buddhist idea
I love Buddhist philosophy more than any religious thinking.
L've just started thinking about Buddhist practive, that meditation holds tthe possibility of combatting anxiety
Look, the wind vane fluttering in the autumn breeze Takes hold of certain things that cannot be held. --Feng Chih When we think we are losing our grip, we have good reason to look up. Consider the moon suspended in the sky, how it continues to come and go, follows its natural law, and never really loses face. Consider the sun, the stars, the seasons, how they refuse to abandon us, to let go of their hold on our lives. And, come closer to home, we can marvel at the magic of small efficient things - the toaster and stove, the light in the room, the words in a good book that are permanent, faithful, and clear. We can consider how music, without saying a word, still speaks to us, and how a few friends, maybe miles away, continue to hang on to the strength of our small and faithful words. We can keep in mind that we are part of a complex and loving system, and our grip can never be lost.
Thanks, Byz!
Lovely words, thank you Byz
You elevate and enlighten the chat
(not your jokes, though, hahah)
I must get ready for work. Enjoy the day.
Wonderful words Byzantine....thankyou!

got it. FW
thnx hoy (now have 3 x SA 6) and congrats
wv .. potatoes?
pototatoes :), carrots, celery, onions and I added some garlic too
potatoes even
and milk I used coconut milk
peri does using coconut milk just change the flavor a bit or is it not as thick of a soup without it?
I don;t know since I only use coconut milk
I have also added corn - so it becomes more like a potato/corn chowder
with a loaded potato you often get cheese and bacon bits - have you ever added that to the soup?
I have some frozen corn that is a good idea for next time
I do have some shredded cheese, mabye I will add that at the end
i haven't ever used the cheese or bacon - but your title for the recipe made me think of it - will try it next tim - maybe just sprinkle them on top when serving
love making soups
