hi diz
hey sammy
Clues are up
hi all and thanks Lickety
diz... do you read the new australia daily news??
I usually read the news on line
is that one on line?
did you see the article about mum of a traveler?
no
i would like to know if tere is an aussie here who has seen the article and what they think of it>?
Tell us more, sammysmom. Can't find the newspaper - what's its actual name?
the new daily free news
US mum gets lots of cheeky advice on life down under?
an american mother fwose daughter and her boyfriend are going t visit australia.. for them it is the trip of a lifetime. the mom posted a note to the australian people to please take good care of her babies while they are there.
yes, that is the article
chum s
i am uncomfortable about some of the comments
Ok - read it. Looks like few people took it seriously. Given that so many Aussie kids (e.g., all my 4 boys) put on their backpacks and disappear os (overseas = everywhere when you live here!) once they've finished their degrees etc., I guess they wonder what she's worried about.
We do tend to make a joke of most things; probably people shouldn't have responded unless they had something useful to say. Makes one wonder why they bothered commenting at all.
i am the nana of the traveler and to me, that is such a looooong way from home and family
One of mine disappeared with backpack, girlfriend and law degree about 14 years ago and is still away! Now happily resident in Cape Town with girlfriend (now wife) and 3 kids. We just have to let them go and do what we all wish we'd done in our youth. Trust them to make good choices if they're been raised with good values, good sense etc.
good advice.. the are smart kids with good jobs and are getting ready to marry and settle.... i truly want them to settle here though , but they will do what they will do , as have all my kids an grands...........

It's pretty safe here provided people are sensible with climate and environment. Never ceases to amaze me how many people get into strife in our oceans or in the outback - so often, they are tourists who underestimate the expanses, remoteness etc. They go for a walk in the bush without sunscreen or water; go swimming in huge surf when they are non-swimmers etc. Other than that sort of battle with the environment, the rest is to use the same common sense they would at home - don't hitch rides with strangers and that sort of thing. We do have some horrid creepie crawlies, but few prey animals and probably less violence in the streets than many other places.
I am an Aussie and read the posts here so went looking for it. You have to understand that we are such a long way away from everywhere that travelling great distances is no biggie for us. Everyone when they are young go away fro long periods. It's very safe compared to the rest of the world so I think Aussies would think it a bit strange getting asked to look after someone. And by the way, who are we looking after? You probably don't understand the Australian sense of humour. But the kids will once they have been here for a bit.
They all come home eventually - yours will too. At least they have each other - it's not like she'll fall for an Aussie and settle here instead of the States. And if they stay a while you'll have to visit - we have had a great time in the Middle East and now South Africa visiting our wandering son!
Good comments Cosmo - it was all in jest after all, and we certainly use our humour to lighten a situation.
I should be watching the Grand Final instead of this chatter!
waves to dofith from Durban
thanks for the input
Don't worry sammysmom, just worry they will be so safe and like it so much they won't want to leave and you will have to visit them here.
Hi ursh! Went to Durban (and up Drankensbergs etc) a couple of years back. LOVE SA - go every year but not yet this year. The kids love their life there and don't want to leave - trying to work out how they can have a foot in both places with his job etc.
We now have 3 SAffer grandchildren complete with beautiful accents etc.
best to keep one foot in the Aussie door - just in case
I seem to have dominated chat. Sorry everyone - leaving now to watch the footy GF.
Yes ursh - they have the safety net of Aussie passports etc. But they intend to keep their home in CapeTown and travel back and forth.
good morning all
hiya! (she throws out to anyone around)
hiya rbud! :)
Hi Rose
how's this one? (just got here)
Today would have been my late husband's 92nd birthday
so far so good, quite a fun grid
how are you today, rbud?
ah, one of those days... I have them already, mine's only been gone about 8 months. Was recent for you, too, ruby, wasn't it?
Not sure, made it through today, but was feeling especially odd for some reason. Miss the old man.
Just a beautiful fall day, he liked those.
It's a day to remember the good things and a friend brought me pastries and caviar, so l'll light a candle, drink a toast and think of our grand adventure
I'll drink to that, too. :)
Yes
he was rather young still, wasn't he, rbud?
only 57. But he was always saying he was surprised to find himself living past 30, considered it all a bonus, haha.
:) here's to beautiful men, inside and out, remembering them fondly
brb, nature calls
various accidents and odd things happened to him, he was always happy to see "another day above ground" as he put it.
What is good, Rose, is that after some time pâsses, the bad times slip away and all that's left are the good things.
My husband had Alzheimer's and was a mess for a couple of years toward the end. l mostly miss his conversation
Yes, I've noticed that already, because we did have some bad times, mostly related to his drinking. But he didn't do it during his last year, really, so we spent some quality time, in spite of his health problems.
l miss the day-to-day rituals;: martinis at 5, etc. And we never went to bed mad
I hear that! I'm surrounded by my two kids, their friends, girlfriend, boyfriend, THEIR kids... no sensible adult conversations to be had. Hubby was so smart, observant, and witty, but not this crew, haha.
BUT! I do now have a cute little granddaughter, our first ever. Born a week ago. Wish he'd made it to see her.
I know exactly what you mean. l have friends here, but conversation is all in French, so it lowers the "joke and pun quotient".
And l can't discuss the fat orange nutcase in the WH!
oh, a favorite subject of mine, too, the big dolt.
They understand my embarrassment, but not the real questions or the nuances
back. And a pound lighter :)
And the chat is a bit touchy on politics
I got the creeps today when the news shows played him talking about Puerto Rico, "an island, in an ocean, a really big ocean, SUCH a big ocean..." - he sounded simply senile.
congratz on the granddaughter! You must be loving every minute of her life.
rbud... what a classic inanity.... the man drives me to distraction!
she's a doll. Lots of dark fluffy hair. She seems to like me, so that's good. :)
And they had enormous numbrs of US troups on the ground in Haiti, after the earthquake -- same "big" ocean!
hiya ro :)
hey sprite
ohms
good one, thanks
shoot..sorry
*grins* Keep them coming
I really think after seeing the poor mayor of San Juan begging for help that perhaps "someone" should be arrested for manslaughter of these poor people, based on incompetence and lack of concern.
but that's just my humble opinion.
I think a lot of citizens of this world are with you on that, rbud
The mayor's words made me cry.
And Trumps had the nerve to talk about arranging the funding for PR relief!
rbud...isn't that why the concept of indictment was created?
It's been 11 days now, it's a crime.
he made a big deal out of finally sending a hospital boat, as of yesterday it still had four days to go to actually get there. That makes two weeks.
The response for Haiti was immediate! And Puerto Ricans are US cityizens!
such a "huge" ocean! the boob.....
the quicker the man makes himself impossible, the better.
i read where the commercial cruise liners were getting to PR with relief
why should it be the charity of commercial companies before the gov for the citizens.?
He didn't even lift the old ban on foreign vessels coming in right away
and when he did...wasn;t it for a limited period?
I also heard that a large bunch of rescuers fought their wat into the inner area to help people, but had nothing at all with them to give them when they made it there. So disorganized.
Why don't we discuss the NFL some more, the racist bastard!
*their way, not wat, oops
yes, those darn NFL players, how dare they.
what scares me is that there has been talk over here of him actually securing a second term...
what scares me is that there has been talk over here of him actually securing a second term...
what scares me is that there has been talk over here of him actually securing a second term...
He actually had the nerve to say that the owners were afraid of the players. l wish somebody would give him a "huge" smack!
I don't see how. It's scared enough people that hopefully many more will come out and vote for ANYONE else, haha!
well the talk is that he'll use the margaret thatcher technique... start a war.
we were stuck in the big hospital last year, an hour from home. Voting was the last thing on our minds.
that is scary, ro
one of the big problems is that if he is impeacjhes or if article 25 (mental health issues) is effectuated, Pence, who is a right-wing ideologue is actually worse. He just looks normal
well you got something more important on your mind then, rbud. And no energy to spare.
your are right, Rolin, a war would keep him in office
I don't see how, he'll screw it up so badly it may incite "friendly" fire, haha! :P
at times like these the attitude of the ostrich does seem like a good option..
true, ro, but then bury trump all the way and not just his head
choy
I was joking the other day that he' s going to wind up committing accidental suicide, as he's always shooting himself in the foot, and his foot's constantly in his mouth, and his head's up his "behind", so something's bound to go wrong there. ;)
roflollll
lol....
there's a heck of a mental picture, right?
it is. Am still laughing at it
absolutely...and one i'd gladly assist to eventuate.
it's a Xmassy grid today
we can hope. Hmmm... what is that lone M?
it is? *looking*
4 Xmas words today
oh, I see some of them now.
my6/27 is the single M
This will be a difficult Christmas for Rbud and me!
wise
sorry
ty. Yes, I agree, ruby, and I have a big birthday ending with 0 coming in 3 weeks, already sad thinking about it. We used to party big for his birthday in May, but sit quietly around a small campfire together for mine.
*hugs rbud*
thanks. (((hugs))) for ruby, too. :)
Thank you, Rbud, happily you have your big an,d growing family around you!
a mixed blessing at best. Mostly they try my patience, and then there are all the dogs - four, and none are mine. Yet I spend more time with the biggest one than our son who owns him. And he's not the best behaved dog, sigh.
fireflies. Last word was a doozy: so5/26. Stats should help. I think the word should have a capital too, but hey... enable...
My dogs save me! They are protective companions and Rufie is king of the street!
it is too easy to feel lonely in a crowd, rbud, especially without the one you used to share life with.
never seen a dog act so depressed and obsessed before. mopes around when son's gone, yelps and carries on trying to get to him the whole time he's here... yet runs off first chance he gets when son lets him out with him.
Princess Raffie has a fan club of her own. Strangers come and take their pictures
Neither one obeys, but they don't do bad things, so l can't complain
your dogs are cool, the one I deal with has some sort of complex, and doesn't respond much to women, namely me, haha.
bye all, have a blessed day and a peaceful night
When husband died, Rufe became man of the house!
you, too, sprite, (((hugs)))) for you as well, mustn't leave you out. :)
;)
Uh oh, dog Walker just arrived. See you later. ((Rbud))
He slunk away with the dogs. Now l'm waiting for the masseur for my 15minutes of bliss, paid for by the government
well, I think I need both of what you just mentioned, a dogwalker and a masseuse, too!
l am very Lucky to be here; besides being a beautiful place, it is remote enough for me to feel relatively safe.
The dogs are much too big for me to manage
This dog is already showing a protective streak for our son's new little girl, it's kind of cute. He has to check out everyone who gets near her.
Morning ladies. (((Ruby))))
Morning ladies. (((Ruby))))
Double post. Sorry. Internet being hormonal!
hiya, Soodle.
Congrats on your new grand-daughter, Rbud :-)
thanks! it's taking some getting used to. Been a long time since there was a baby around.
I can imagine! My daughter's friend just had a baby. I was terrified to pick her up. So tiny!
We met up at my mom's on Tueday, it was her 87th birthday, and this is her first and only great-grandchild. Not sure she grasped it all, as she's not quite all there any more, but she sure got a kick out of just holding the baby and making baby talk at her.
*tuesday... plus, we got some nice pics, of course. :)
not sure she quite knows even who my two kids are these days. :(
How lovely! My Dad is 89 & Mom is 85. Not a sign of a great grandchikd yet.
How lovely! My Dad is 89 & Mom is 85. Not a sign of a great grandchikd yet.
I wonder how much of Mom's recent problems have to do with her glasses, oddly enough - my sis said she got impatient with the eye doctor and just wanted it over with. So now I'm not sure she can see us that well, and she's quit doing her crosswords and needlepoint, too.
but she insists she's just fine, grump, grump, quit trying to run her life, that sort of thing.
OMG it's soodle!!!!
Soodle, come and visit, l'll share the masseur with you.
First run-through, 100 wors but neither nbs nor nbt
I've run off to Lickety already, would still only have one 7 and no 8's at 103 words if I hadn't, I think.
l only found 2 Christmas words, nice grid, but not so eay for me!
1 7, no 8's and no corner n or right-hand s
I agree, not so easy. Some odd words!
<__ not very good at this!
Really? l only find the common words
corner M!
that was the my6/27, no doubt something to do with cell division, I suspect. plural. my + vowel + ending like more than one lush green spot in the middle of a desert.
silly me!! thanks
olos
hi Lynxx
don't try that one
hi Ruby
I looked and looked for some exotic word for that same S, turns out it is si4/11. One of those odd words I mentioned, haha
TY Rosebud
thanks, l found it by points.
had purposely NOT tried that because it seemed so far-fetched, but noooo....
stats for an 8, pls, then l can eat lunch
was trying to pick one, they are all three hard to clue if you ask me.
even stats might helpme through my dense fog.....
how about co6/24 and co8/50 - the universe and everything, and the bad plural of that, same plural as that my6 word.
Thank you, good clues. And l found another 2 Christtmas words
lovely words - TY
This isn't easy-peasy! LOL
not sure how you'd even pronounce that plural, hmmm... or why there's a plural at all, haha!
can drop the C off that 8 and get some more cell division words, os6/21 and plural
Thanks for the help, lunch will be here soon
yw, did you get your massage?
Yes, only 15 minutes, but it's a pleasure. He's a former pro rugby player and has the biggest hands l've ever seen, just like Trumpf. LOL
hahaha! well, it's lovely that you get those, don't think our medical would pay for such luxury.
They also pay for taxis to and from the hospital and clinics, 100% for cancer care, 60% for a,nything else
there's an so8/40, the condition of being alone, or maybe the condition of being the bottom of a shoe, lol
not bad, then, at least they cover big (and essential) stuff, it sounds like.
ty for the help and bye for now
enjoy your lunch. :)
It's a great system, it's just too bad that we didn't apply for it when husband was still alive
He was too proud
oh, no, pride can certainly hurt one.
Aaah, l head food-steps. LOL
hear*
off I go, too. lovely talking with you. :)

clue for the lone M in the corner?
MY 6/27 MY + vowel
Sorry, BDG my online bingo game started as I was typing out a clue so had to leave to play the game. Do you need more of a clue?
I would appreciate it, zoo. The my + vowel clue (to me) is reading as a 3 letter word...
MY + vowel + First two letters of the ocean + plural
ah.... thanks, zoo!
Welcome.
Zoom is a bingo player. I love it. : D
Ah it is just for fun! I do not play for money or real prizes :-)
N12!!!!!
B4!!!!!!
o6!!!!!
Garden gate...No 8!
I was calling out bingo numbers
Two little ducks No..22!
So am I!
Never heard those. You must be a pro
Zoom=Bingo Stud
Although the microsoft bingo game is how you are calling them. But in a bingo hall they would be called out how I am typing them.
Oh
In fact if you google bingo calls it will come up with them all for you. Not that you would be interested in doing that LOL
Anyway it is time for me to retire for the evening. hope you all have a great evening/day. Happy babbling everyone!
Oh dear. This is a case of British vs. American
I would think in england it would be bingou
Or bingeao. Either way, lots of extra vowels. 22...two little ducks means that number looks like two ducks
There is a whole list of numbers associated with words or phrases.
Trying to figure out the garden gate one
G....
garden for G...
that's my guess...
Just because it rhymes with 8
Wonder if they have xrated bingo
If you search "British bingo nicknames" you will get hip with this
It is some kind of Rocky Horror Picture Show thing where the players know all of the references and shout/sing them when called.
I haven't played bingo in 50 years
Plenty of time for that when you are wearing dentures and shuffling around at the nursing home. : P
belated thanks for the my6 -- nbt
