hello friends
Hi Trif. You are on vacation!
boy, am I ever a slug today! woke up really early, then fell back to sleep in pure joy when I realized it was saturday
Me too. I awoke at 0556 then went back to sleep until 0855.
I woke up about 20 minutes ago!
lucky - I woke up at 526.... still up - lol
Great for you!
Are you a napper, kje?
I'm plum worn out. and there is still quite a lot of stuff to do around here!
not really, but I'm enjoying a book in the quiet being the only one up, so it's all good
I have to wrap many gifts.
I have never been this far behind going into a Christmas holiday
will start baking here when this book is done (listening as I babble)
I sense that a lot of people are in the same sort of non-christmasy boat this year. People just don't seem as in to it as usual
I wish I could listen to podcasts or audiobooks, but my brain needs to see words.
took me a while, and still some books just won't work for me that way, but I like that I can do things like cooking, walking to work, exercise, etc and get some "reading" done
ind nonfiction easier than fiction on audio
I tend to listen to books on long car rides
Nothing is the same as feeling the magic and excitement as a child. Those were great days: going out of town to visit relatives, with 5 older cousins.
Fireworks
that was - I find...
huzzah for mixi!
Yay mixi!
maybe wrapping gifts today or baking will help, trif... it helps for me
all the gifts are done . its the tree, which is up and lit, but no decors, no crèche up yet, minimal things around the house....
Finished wrapping last week, then gave holiday concert on Tuesday and Thursday
the tree and lights... maybe a cup of coffee on a cool morning by the tree?
that does sound lovely, kje....
I will cook food tomorrow, then reheat it Christmas morning for my mother.
In hotel room waiting for hubby to we up. Went to see Biltmore yesterday
Wake
part of my funk is that this is the first year we wont' be with my mum on Christmas. We saw her earlier in the week, in the nursing home, but we wont' be at her house and all
OK, missing the pe7/8 - anybody have a clue?
Add Vowell in middle of writing implement
TY, mixi.
That is a tough change, Trif.
understood, trif... my mom died in 2012 just days before xmas. I think there is still joy there somewhere - just have to look at it all differently
ty mixi!
i know, i know, i still have many, many things to be happy about. I just need to get off my fat butt and get in gear
will you be able to see your mom at xmas?
on the actual day? we could, but I am afraid I would get all upset, and that wouldn't help her much.
ah
hahaha - my last word was ci4
She is in the right place for her right now.
a nice, happy visit the day after would probably be better. I don't know why I am so twisted up about it. she is SO happy in her new home, and it really was the best decision for her, and for our family.
that seems appropriate - ci4/5 all - I'm off to bake.
oooh, thank kje! didn't have that one!
Enjoy, kje!
Clue for the left L please?
same as the i4
just add the l in the front
I guess I need that i4.

hello all....
hi pen
hi bichon...
thanks for the clue, ru -- I needed that se6!

i am done....went pretty fast after i listed...
congrats!
ty...
there are angels out and about!...i went out to move my car and two idiots had not moved their cars in time for the plow, so my usual space was full of snow...A new neighbor was shoveling (an area that she did NOT have to shovel for her car)....when i went to join her, her father came out and asked to use my shovel and proceeded to finish shoveling the whole row with his daughter....i was a happy camper, especially because the snow was so heavy!
nice that he caught the drift of the project
He really plowed into it, that's for sure
yup.... :oD
usually neighbors are flaky in the snow
I thought there'd be an avalanche of puns with this :D
We knew you'd shovel them on, ruru ;)
Done --- off to try my hand at French macaroons. Have fun all.
Fun fact, the coloured pastries with a filling in between aren't French macaroons. They're Parisian. Actual French macaroons are made with almonds and have a much longer history, they go back to the Middle Ages. There are lots of regional variants. Parisian macaroons were invented about a century ago.
interesting.. the macaroons I know are coconut based
actually, technically any of the recipes from France should be called macarons, because they are not the same thing as the anglosaxon macaroon, which is coconut based
Bouchon Bakery has real French ones here.. they are super expensive and I've never tried them
(as a kid I learnt to make coconut macaroons in primary school in England, took me years after coming to France to understand why the macarons were so different)
they're not that hard to make. the normal ones are made a lot like coconut macaroons, the parisian ones I think the hard part is cooking them at just the right temperature
hmm
recipe looks pretty easy
The French bakers are always more froo-froo than the rest of the plebeians : D
Bonjour
Bonjour ruby or am I too late!!!
oops .. obviously at least an hour ... sorry!!
Hi Mo. Compliments of the season :)
hi soodle .. and too to you and your family.
are you all set for the celebrations?
Well, Mo, what's not done now - ain't getting done!!! How about you?
I agree ... too late now.
but I must confess I don't have any presents to buy.
We just try and relax and enjoy the occasion.
Relaxing now, with a well earned glass of wine & catching up on Peaky Blinders. The 3 offspring are all home, my parents are catered for, the turkey is bought & the gifts wrapped. Fire is lit - all is well in the world of Soodle :)
that sounds good soodle ... enjoy your Christmas and to all who are babbling....
Indeed!
enjoy your glass of wine and I will enjoy my tot of whisky ... cheers!!!
Sláinte!!
Will you be doing the turkey dinner thing?
OH. Yes my hubby and I will share the cooking .... me being the boring bits!!!
sorry ... "doing"the boring bits.#
how about you?
Ha! Men! They do all the glory bits & us women peel potatoes, scrape carrots & all the non-glory, but essential work. Typical!
too true.
My daughter asked if she could take charge of Christmas dinner this year, which initially sounded great, until I remembered I am an utter control freak, and I would be haunting her & 'suggesting' alternative ways of doing things. We both agreed it would be best all round if I was left in command!
Soodle, have you finished Babble?
Not even close, Mo. I'm just dabbling at the moment. Peaky Blinders is taking most of my attention. I'm pausing it to chat!
I would let her get on with it and you keep out of the kitchen ...
Oh I wish I could...... Like I say - an utter control freak!
never watched Peaky Blinders.
just relax and enjoy your other company ... I am sure she will appreciate it and it cannot be a disaster!!
My Dad (hopefully) will be 90 in January. We had a lovely little Christmas getogether today in the Nursing Home for him. I was driving, so no hooch for me, but he drank several Irish coffees & was very mellow as I left. My Mum is 86 & going to spend the holidays with my sister. Apart from cooking dinner on the 25th, I have no obligations. It's the first time in years. I intend to chillax!
My daughter just called - has 3.5 days off work so coming over this afternoon to cook with me...she is great to work with in the kitchen - very calm.
Good morning to you both.
Hi Lynn :) Happy Christmas.
Christmas Eve there?
hi lyn and happy greetings to you too.
Yes. And although we are having a relatively cool Xmas, most of my food will be cold so I can prepare ahead
Where in Oz are you, Lynn?
Ham, ocean trout, chicken and quail terrine, turkey roll and Jamie Olivers Christmas Bombe (ice-cream) etc etc
clue for the pe 7/8?
Merry Christmas to everyone!
In Melbourne
on a sunny beach some where I guess!!
10 minutes walk from a beach but sun/sand and salt don't suit me so never go
Trent's - like the writing implement, but with an extra vowel after the 3rd letter...
I am the same ... prefer the countryside anyday.
TY didn't have that 7/8
Sounds heavenly, Lynn. I just LOVE the sun & sand.
Ah you would be one of those mad irish tourists that look like cooked lobsters after a day
Yup! When us Paddies see a drop of sunlight we bask! What's seldom is wonderful!
Side-note... Have finished Peaky Blinders & moved on to The Walton's. From the sublime to the.... I love Catch-up TV!
I am enjoying The Crown - Season 2 - extremely good
trentsnana sorry I have only just seen your post .... thank you and the seasons greetings to you too.
Oh, Lynn - The Crown is brilliant! I wonder if Prince Philip really was the philanderer they are making out he was?
Thanks, Soodle!
I think it all must be true - surely the palace would be up for slander or libel if not??
oops - not up for but would sue
What a pity something like this wasn't done years ago, certainly shows the human side of the Royals - and therefore more likable
It's funny. When I watch a TV show on the normal television, I dip in & out of it. But when I watch a Netflix show on the iPad, in bed, I seem to get far more engaged with the characters & the plot. I am loving The Crown, which I never thought I would have much interest in.
no ads!
I watched Victoria (with Jenna Coleman) and thought that was excellent but The Crown ran rings around it.
But my favourite this year has been A Handmaids Tale - watched it a couple of times (so far) - astonishingly good
Princess Michael of Kent sounds like a doozy
I watched some of The Handmaid's Tale. I thought it was creepy.
not up to that bit yet Ru.
I haven't seen A Handmaids Tale. I enjoyed Alias Grace - another Margaret Atwood adaptation.
up to that bit?
I forced myself to watch Alias Grace, good but not gripping
Molly - you liked Breaking Bad. I think you would really like Peaky Blinders.
Ru, the Princess Michael of kent bit
oh.. she pulled a really rude thing off at a reception for Prince Harry and his fiance
kind of a racist gesture if you will
Designated Survivor is also quite watchable.
oh I thought you meant in the series - I'll check it out
afternoon all, sneaking in some babble
A Handmaids Tale is only available on Hulu. Exclusive series like that are part of the streaming services way of getting you to subscribe.
You can also buy it on Amazon too I believe
Ru - mmm seems like a woman you wouldn't want to call a friend
or maybe it's just that you can share it there
hi Mool
hey lyn
Handmaids Tale free here
she's apologized for her "error" .. I think it was a deliberate thing.. she's had issues (racism) in the past.. she seems really creepy to me
exactly
A Handmaids Tale is getting enormous coverage in this part of the world. There is to be a Referendum in 2018 regarding legalising abortion & many pro-abortion activists reference the book/series.
Hadnmaid's Tale is too creepy for me and Princess Michael has always had a reputation for having poor taste.
The whole sex scene where the wife has the handmaid in between her legs and the husband is pumping it into the handmaid just creeped me out. I quit watching aver that.
in what way are they using it - about other people deciding what a woman does with her body?
*After that
Hello (((Bugs)))) Happy Christmas!
I am with you Molly. I won't watch any more either.
I haven't been able to finish it either, just so depressing and mean
waves furiously to Soodle!! My son and I are planning a trip your way in September of 2018. I hope we can pop round for a drink and laugh.
I never saw or read it, so I'm unsure of it's significance in terms of the abortion referendum.
Wahoo, Bugs!!! I am looking forward to it already!!
Please send me an email with things we should not miss since we won't have a lot of time but want to cram as many memories in as possible.
Bye everyone
Happy Christmas lynnx to you are all the others down under.
Bye Lynn. Happy Christmas :)
Bugs - send me a quick email - medickinson@eircom.net - so I have your address, with approximate dates.
will do. I lost all my addresses when my computer imploded.
September is possibly the best month to visit. Oooooh, I can't wait! :)
