Clues are up
Hi everyone -- just a quick peek before bedtime
wow - a techie word in enable!
enough for tonight - see you tomorrow
FWs
good morning all
Hi and hugs Sprite
*hugs Liz* How are you? And your beloved?
We’re well thanks. Busy - have guest, which is lovely.
How are you and your world?
sounds good! Glad you are enjoying the company of friend
it's a bit of a challenge atm here. Lots of things going on, worries, coming to terms with stuff. Lots of processes going on, and I am very tired from surviving the december madness and noise. But on the whole, things are good and will go better over time.
Hope things improve quickly, so you can de-stress.
thanks :) From your mouth...
Have you read anything good recently?
just finished Origin by Dan Brown, which I enjoyed very much. Another good one in the Robert Langdon series.
I’m near the end of the Michael Lister series - OK but not loving them
have you read the Da Vinci Code and sequels?
Da Vinci code yes - fun. Not the others.
will drop the series in our dropbox then
Ooh! Thanks.
Got to go - set the table and have dinner. Stay strong and like I said, hope things improve. Hugs
enjoy! And thanks. *hugs*
First run through and have 29 left to find.
Hello, Sprite, if you are still here :-)
*hugs zooz* Hello dear man, and happy new year to you and yours.
Thanks! And to you and your family too!
wow, good job on the grid. I am not even halfway, not seeing many words.
thank you! How are you and your parents?
I even found the 8!
yay! Got that one too, myself.
Dad is still under the weather and mother is still in bed. Been in bed for over a month now.
Nice one!
that does not sounds good at all. What does the doctor say?
He just keeps giving her liquids to take as for some reason she suddenly can not take tablets as it makes her sick before they have the chance to work. They keep saying that she will have to go the hospital as they have done everything they can possibly do. bUt she refuses. So frustrating.
:( That is really frustrating indeed. Am so sorry.
We have had the doctor out four times now and an ambulance. Although the abulance was for my dad.
They are as stubborn as mules those two.
not easy to deal with, as a son. You want to get them more help, no doubt, but they won't let you
They both had the anti-flu virus earlier in the year and they both got the flu virus. In fairness that flu virus seems to be rife this year. So many people have caught it.
Yes that is right, Sprite, We have argued a lot about it but in the end it is their decision.
that is the thing with the anti flu shots. They make a cocktail of all the viruses they think will hit us this year. But when you catch a virus that is not in the cocktail, you get just as sick as without the shot.
Hope things get better for you through out this year, Sprite!
(((((((zooz)))))) You are a wonderful son to them, never doubt it
thanks zooz :) I hope so too. Will do all in my power to make it so.
My dad is convinced that they are trying to kill off the old people so they have more resources to help the younger generation. Bless him.
Bless his heart. Poor man.
I have exactly 15 left to find. Need to get going now. Hope you have a great day, Sprite! Happy babbling everyone!
have a wonderful day too, zooz, and my very best wishes to you and your parents.
fireflies. Bye all, hagd
zooz (if you're still around), speaking as an old person, I think your dad has a point.
just had our first hard quake in years - as they put it in the Mikado - a short, sharp shock
4.5, just a startler, rattled everything loose
elucidation: rattled everything that was loose ... including me
In sf?
I didnt feel it
Good morning
Hi rubes
Ugly weather here -- not cold but dark and endless rain
Hi ruby and ruru
And there's a threat of avalanches in the local resorts
Still cold here...with more snow coming.
hi sukee and ruru
They predicted a Dangerous windstorm for yesterday but, happily, it didn't happen
RAining here too
The weather is so messed up this year, everywhere.
They're predicting snow on the weekend, but l think they're using a ouija board as the prédictions are starting to feel almost random
There is a super storm coming to the east coast, we should miss the worst of it.
l feel sorry for my sister in NY
I want spring...
Me too
When llived in upstate NY, winter lasted from Sept to June and real summer about 3 days
Yep... :)
The weather here is much more moderate
There's a fault line above my house, but it's very old and minor; there was a tiny quake around the time we arrived and it toppled a couple of chimneys
I am up now bc of a tiny quake, Ruby
How tiny?
4.4, small
and hello KJE
but woke us up
l have a stupid question: do quakes make noise?
yes
like a low rumbly sound right as you feel it
l always wondered
They can be quite loud when large
kinda creaky
why are you up, ru? same reason?
Have either of you been through big ones?
No. Just woke up
not me
I have. Several
centered at Berkeley, ru...Hayward fault?
Yes. Most likely
Or the Rogers Fault
well, now I'm awake damn it
Did you notice that they named the storm that didn't happen here? l think that's the first time since l've been here
named it and didn't happen?
"Eleanor"
ridiculous!
haha
now no one will want to use that name for a child... they would be teased
do it - no - I dare you - no - you're SUCH an eleanor
haha
Did you know that they name animals with a specific letter each year?
no
like: Peter, Poopie, Pepe, Pamela -- how silly is that?
Of course my two black dogs had extremely common names, so who am l to make fun?
so all animlas born that year start with the same letter?
Yes
hmmm, I could see how that might have started on a farm
But l'm not French, so l didn't follow that rule.
I have no animals, so I don't either ; )
Why, on a farm?
so they can easily track ages and such
All of my redchows (and they're called red but have actually been shaded blonde) have had names s-tarting with R
Rosie, Rufus, Ruby, Ruffino, Rafaella -- so i'm as dopey as the French, just dopey in a different way
... people do it all the time ... I've had a friend from a family of six kids all starting with W and another from a family of seven all starting with M
I have a friend we call the J family -she and her husband both have names starting with J,and the kids are Julia and Jonathon
Myson's wife is one of 7 D sibs
Good day to all.
kje, we see many families like that.
All Rs in my family....my mother's idea....even my parents and our dogs had names that started with R...
<--Sad for all the guys who wanted to date Pen's Mom whose name did not start with R
yes....very sad.... ;o)
but lucky for my dad...
mornin all
hi mool....
how're things up there this morning pen?
our cows were all named by numbers, according to year--letter then number--then translated into French. I have a chapter on naming cows in my book.
snowing here....expecting 12 to 18 inches....and wind gusts of up to 60 mph are expected....
interesting, round....
sounds like a nice day
morning all...currently watching the snow fall..and not being at all concerned about the "bomb" cyclone. VT is just getting normal winter weather...
hello, mark...
the media have outdone themselves with dumb names for weather events
i am just hoping the wind will keep snow off my car...
Morning Mark, I used to live in Ludlow!
hi fuzzy....
nice, fuzzy...i live in Bridgewater Corners and work in Killington. my wife works in Rutland
hi pen, no show here yet.
I lasted 2 weeks at the bik K. Worked at Okemo for 20 years and skied at K. What do you do there?
started here about 20 min. ago.....more of a coastal storm, i think....
i no longer work AT Killington (night-time snowmaking), but i work at Goodro Lumber IN Killington
agree pen. too much gloom and doom for anything big to come of it this far inland.
mark, see my vermont book, The Taste of Spruce Gum. Takes place on Killington Mt. Won the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award. (I'm from Hinesburg)
demote
tough job snowmaker...appreciate all they do but would not want to do it. My husband sells lumber for Moose River Lumber, Pleasant River Lumber, Hancock Lumber and one other. I know that he sells lumber to your yard.
the chat has a very vermonty feel about it right now
*Pours syrup on the chat
i'll have to check it out, Round...looks like a good read
my great nephew is at the Univ. of VT.....*just wanted to fit in here*....
vt is a wonderful place to live, with great skiing to boot!
I live in Colorado
My grandnephew is at Middlebury
Molly, don't laugh, but we put maple syrup on a LOT of things. my family of 4 is averaging 3 gallons a year in consumption
just got here-I'm in Vermont too
nice, Eva
hi eva...
Colorado isn't bad for skiing either...
NE of Montpelier
Never knew there were so many vermonters here
i like maple syrup on a lot of stuff, too....ice cream, ploys, salmon, scallops....
...not surprising that a word game is frequented by so many Vermonters... ;)
haven't been on chat for a long time, but there used to be some others
I live in Maine now, but my heart is in Vermont and my ashes will be atop Mt. Washington
spending my time these days keeping pipes from freezing
mark are in VT too?
i can relate to that...
maine is the other place I'd love to live
miss the ocean
Vermont: populated by well-read, gun-toting, tree-huggers...
My son puts maple syrup on his scrambled eggs, definitely a Quebecois thing
who like maple syrup?
yes, Eva...i'm in Bridgewater Corners between Killington and Woodstock. and i resemble that remark i made about Vermonters...
I'm not big on eating syrup straight, but use it for cooking
i do too-minus the guns
and underemployed people
I have been know to take a few nips of maple syrup straight. A wonderful drink called "hot gin or gin chaud" is made with Dekuyper Gin and boiling sap. You control how sweet it is from what stage in the evaporator that you take the sap from.
i'm not really gun-toting either...but it is a common theme up here.
Fuzzy, do you know the joke "what do you call a Vermonter with 2 jobs?"
I don't know that joke Mark--but Vermont has 10 months of winter and two months of pretty late in the fall--
lazy?
yres, Eva
*yes
AND, my Spruce Gum book goes back and forth between Rutland and Killington--I once drove up to where the lumber camp ws on Killington--the CCC had built a stone shelter there
no wait a sec there round....we also have mud season and black fly season
true, Eva...mud season is quite notorious
and with climate change we have multiple mud seasons
I agree--I know those seasons too--the saying whould include them
Rasta who sometimes gives a definition in chat grew up in Vermont--
foed
and hunting season....all common replies when asking young children in rural Maine to name the seasons....
in Maine we have two seasons....winter and the fourth of July... ;o)
d'yougecherdeer?
...is a common question here
or moose here....
What are "ploys"?
translation mark?
Ploys are a type of buckwheat crepe
did you get your deer? most people around here hunt at least once
Mark, is the answer to your joke "lucky?"
Round Barn, is the cabin you refer to on Killington now know as Cooper's Cabin?
Fuzzy, "lazy" actually. Most people seem to have multiple jobs...none of which provide a living, but perhaps cobbled together might
When I lived in Ludlow I worked 30 hours a week at Okemo and tended bar six nights a week in the winter so that I could survive the non tourist season. That was back before the ski areas became more of a three season destination.
hero
oops...PB for me
I don't know about Coopers Cabin--haven't been up to see--but all the Killingto n lumber camp details are true (in my fiction book)--got them from a person who lived in the camp

That is a nightmare, bichon!

Hello

bichon....you could try deleting it and downloading a new copy of it....

Tried that pen. Am visitin son who works at Google and he says there is nothing to be done

(notes Trif's entrance)
now I have to co5 with shame
we got a couple of inches last night.
Np ru either was fine
(says hello to ruru, though unsure why I am doing so parenthetically)
You always want to tiptoe around ru ;)
(no kidding)
😉
I was thinking a couple of inches just won't do it back east :D
seems we have to tiptoe around the chog in general lately. How I miss the days when it wasn't so.
why do we have to tiptoe.. I don't really notice a huge difference?
tiptoe thru the tulips, through the tulips.
the d's are killing me
It gets a little snarky at times
dome
oh my god. that's it. I'm out
I'm so sorry. can't keep my text boxes straight today
crawls off to PB in shame.....
I think the chat has been pretty nice lately.. I haven't seen any squabbles of any kind
and my stalker is taking a break from babble.. so I'm pretty happy
the fact that you HAVE a stalker proves my point.
Back for the last 14...going to the list...sigh...
oh.. sort of .. I just put up with him
and we all know certain entities just cant resist writing biting comments all day every day. it has, for me, changed the tone of the entire chog, and not for the better.
I wish I had a stalker, at least I would have someone who cared about me :)
you have to earn them knight :D
no way, me too lazy
Co6/27?
co 6 like dinner in Spanish with a different ending vowel
The 4 before it + accomplish
Ty bzz

Tomtits all over the world are offended :D
fishermen all over new England roll their eyes - no such word
ru - have you heard of Josey Baker here on Divisidero?
no
check them out some time - awesome breads
I will.. I'm off bread for a bit though
I don't hike a hundred miles a week like you do
I'm eating a loaf with no wheat - only grain is oats, otherwise all seeds and nuts - maybe that would work in your new diet ; )
nuts will kill me
mashed avocado on it with a little herbs on top and it is low carb heaven
(minor inconvenience)
mo 5/16?

mo5 makes your computer work mlf
hi kje ty

oops
that's it!!!
I am so smart lol
or smaht as we would say here... ;o)
I am debating wether to go out tomorrow or not. Hubby says I don't have to but we are going to the grocery store and I don't want him to get the same stuff over again so a different price or brand. then again, I try to get him to change things up a little doesn't work too often
lol pen
I like that boston accent
mainahs' accents are a little different but similar....
I LOVE The boston accent
recognized here as indicating someone "from away"....
i could ride around all night in a cab in boston..just listening to the cabbie talk
I will take you - it'll cost a LOT less!
fw - must run - hagd all
bye kje de4
i will come to boston sometime in the next couple years.. I'd love to meet Pam in person
I would be happy to meet you as well - and I am a package deal! Its me, kadresa, a knitter, and eeyore!
ok
i haven't seen Kadressa here in a loooong time
she is buried in work there days, it is sadly true.
before I figured out how to hack in at work I was big time lurking
Hiyas, kiddos! Snow day here in northern Delaware.
you guys are getting a good sized storm aren't you?
so are we.... :o(
Blustery and snowy. Only about 2-3 inches so far. Being from upstate NY, it amuses me that they get so freaked out by a little snow here.
blizzard conditions here...
we are expecting 12 to 16 in. and big wind gusts according to the noon weather forecast...
So I see, Pen. Don't envy you that mess. Stay warm. Hibernate.
i am safely inside for the duration...
that's funny judi.. they freak out in LA with an inch of rain too
Also making headlines: 3.9 earthquake at Mt. St. Helens. Yawn.
4.0 or thereabouts is nothing really..
6.0 and more you pay attention to it
Media sensationalizes everything now. Just absurd.
true
And screw the running out for milk and bread. I'm only goihg out to buy the $500 + mil Power Ball ticket.
I mean, let's get our priorities straight, people!
<--doesn't drink milk, doesn't eat bread, doesn't gamble
You should live in the UK. They only have to see snow and everything closes down.
You're undoubtedly oh your way to sainthood, Ru.
just did the first round of shoveling. by the time I was at the end of the driveway it was time to shovel the beginning again.
(notice I avoided alcohol and sex)
is the snow light, harry?
Well, notbody's perfect. Not even saints.
exactly
it's pretty fluffy up here
(adjusts halo)
but I hear it's heavier closer to the cape
i hope ours is light enough to blow off my car...
you'll have to have some pretty strong lungs for that pen
Hubby laughed at me a few years ago when I suggested he clear the fluffy snow from the driveway & cars with the leaf blower. Then he saw the neighbor doing it and decided it was a good idea after all.
"odor" does not exist in the puzzle I could have sworn it was there
lol....i think the 50-60 mph wind gusts might do it for me...
not that windy yet....
in that case I'd be clearing the snow with a rake :)
lol, Harry. Not the same!
i am hankering for a warm chocolate chip cookie.... :oP
luncho! bbl - 44 to go
bye harry....

So, looking back in the chog for clues for the words I need and I can't interpret the TO 6/27 clue. male cat + fish. Not seeing the fish part...
type of fish...often used for fish sticks
commonly caught in the Atlantic, particularly off the northeast
Oh, now I got it! Thanks.
do you have the RA 5/14?
looking
yes, sounds like the start of an angel's name
5 to go
thanks! 8
completed the last two columns finally
I have the 1st 2 to fill in
2 rs and 4 ps
I have a D, E, px2 and a T
4 to go...got the final D
PR 5/14, 6/21 RH 5, 2nd RO 5/12
pr 5/14 - sounds like an "ode" one with an extra letter
pr 6/21 is a type of flower with a cone shaped head, quite large...native to Africa I believe
rh5 is an old word used to reflect saliva, but is also still used in a type of fever, as well as less commonly as an adjective with y on the end of it
2nd ro 5/12 think shakespeare
I always miss the RO!
yeah, not a "natural" word so to speak
meaning you aren't generally prone to use it because there are not that many words that start similarly
I need a more simple clue for the RH
okay...you know the bird that starts with rh? Take that, and maybe make it a "singular" in latin
phan....think of a type of arthritis...
it's the first part....
there you go
thanks, Pen
the PR 6/21 flower one, google isn't helping me out with that...
yw...
an artichoke I think is a type of this flower
okay, lateral clue...
i can't believe that i cannot find a four letter word....
pr6/21 you're a supporter + of a common brewed hot beverage
I can give you plenty of four letter words pen :)
I am very much for that beverage!
ty for the pr 6...
yw
then you must be pr6 phan :)
was thinking of making some earl grey myself
