It has been brutally hot! I'm here until the 20th. We went to the National Gallery on the basis it's air conditioned (though it's cooling off now)
Now I'm puppy sitting for my daughter as she and her boyfriend have gone to a party for the night
awww that sounds so sweet
He's a VERY cute puppy. 17 week old black lab
well lynxx and herinfer are both working ( i think so we are looking at a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
adorable breed too
Rose, there's nothing to stop us from meeting more than once (radical, I know :) )
I thought matty was coming to stay with you, rose? Or are you guys just meeting up?
Sunday we're wine tasting with someone else I randomly know in Melbourne...Saturday maybe (and people actually want to meet me - foolish people!)
i know matty. i thought we could have you here for a few days.
I was hoping to but I needed to be near Sarah
ah right. Real life interfering... I know that feeling

Sprite, I love Caya's song!

ah, great, Kam! It is beautiful, isn't it, and she sings so well. She is not a professional musician, but she has a good recording studio setup and mixes her own compositions.
if you search 'Isis Caya' in youtube, you will find more of her songs, and some covers she has done too
Rose, how far are the fires from you? Fires are a major issue in Calif - I know how frightening it can be...
i have a short cut to isis caya on my bar at the top of my screen
awww that is so sweet, rose
Trains are even better. I'm staying right near Southern Cross station

HUGS AND KISSES LIZ .... AND ALSO FOR YOUR OTHER HALF.
Oooh - Thursday sounds good, all things working out with her ladyship (daughter :) )
Should be - we're starting to get on each other's nerves a wee bit (which is normal) so a day or so away would no doubt be great
matty...are you enjoying Melbourne?...despite the heat?
tentatively thursday, by train, at upper ferntree gully station about 7pm.that is if you are coming directly from seddon straight through.
the washing machine etc are at your disposal. might even find an old fan for your room... lolll

Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year dear worzel.
Seasonal felicitations to you my dear Mum I hope you and Dad are both well xx

but 4 weeks ago i had my first heart attack. if not for my magnificent cardiologist i might not be here.
omg I should have been here for you - if only I'd known! My apologies. I hope you are feeling a little better
on the road to recovery. start cardiac rhab in 10 days. b reathing stll labored at tims.
Well, I'm actually staying at Southern Cross
so you will be coming from southern cross?
Mum did they give you any reason as to why it might have happened, or was it just "one of those things"?
honey, i am wayyy over weight, cannot exercise, but am watching intake. just my time.
Nonsense, mum - there is no such thing as just your time! As for overweight - pah! I bet you can still fit into that slinky lil wedding dress!!!
the ambo's took my to a hospital, it was nearly 6 hours post pain when i was put on an emergency trolley, then another 30 minutes for my bloods to be taken.
they then had the gall to say there was nohing wrong ith me and sent me home. fortunately i saw the heart doc very oon after, about 3 days, and i was put straight in for an angiogram and stents.
Seems that it's not just the British health system that is failing quite miserably! Well, I hope you are resting sufficiently and not running around after everybody! I know what you're like mum!! xx
ummmm, can we change the topic? i don't want to tell fibs...
lmao I KNEW it - you're misbehaving aren't you? Naughty!!
ah well. i am sitting down regularly. just taking small steps.
OK well if we're changing the subject I want to make a complaint - there are too many U's in this grid for my liking - just can't get my head round them!
why ever for? you doing u-bends or something? omg, the mind pis are killing me.

I will, if I can get a working phone!

Hello, Matty. Hope you are having a wonderful time!
I am, thank you!
my friend told me yesterday that he is going to go to New Yrork on Tuesday with his brother. I said he must be mad. They are having aweful cold weather right now!
New York*
They really are, though the end of the week is meant to get a bit warmer (to 8C)
Ah so it will be back to around the same as back here in the UK then. That should be okay for him then. Thanks!
But that's not until Thursday ish, I think
Well my time is up for now. Only got half way through my first run. Back later. Happy babbling everyone!
Laters, Zooz!
first run-through: 116 but no V or 8 or 9
The v sounds like the ending of a princess head piece. The de 8 and 9 are extensions of the southern phrase, "Well I do de7"
Good morning from chilly Ontario.
Good morning from the frozen tundra formerly know as the east coast, where thermal is the new fashion trend.
Hello chilly Sukee and hello and thank you, Molly
The good news is, the cold, cold snap should be over by tomorrow.
It is only -17 this morning
Respite from cold today and even Sunshine, but rain and worse for all of next week
l just never go outside
hi...i think LE 4/5 - ed should be allowed
I haven't been out in 2 weeks...
Oh, never mind about that word :)
My sister, who lives in NY, can't go outside either
good morning from frozen western ny. where it is a balmy -9 degrees and cars are whining when you try to start them..
l'd whiine, too, if l still lived in Binghamton!
Thank goodness I am toasty warm in my bed. I went to bed at 8PM last night with my hot water bottle. I did read until 10.
Actually, I probably should be playing this in bed rather than sitting at my desk in my cold living room.
l'm addicted to Downton Abbey and Watch many épisodes every night in my warm bed
and i need coffee.. bbl
Oh well, February is coming than March. We don't have too long to go now :) Baseball spring training opens next month.
Do you really believe that Spring will come?
It has to :) This cold weather will make it come :)
I read yesterday that Easter is going to be on April 1 this year.
Easter and April Fools Day all in one
Could I please have a clue for the ar8 - driving me crazy

Hi everyone.....a clue please for Al6/30?

Does anybody know if a peanut allergy also applies to pistachios?
l tried Google, but don't know about tree nuts
Pistachios are a type of tree nut. Peanut allergies and tree nut allergies are different, but many people who have one of these allergies, might also have the other. My grandson primarily has a severe tree nut allergy with a milder allergy to peanuts.
thank you
They say that children grow out of those allergies, but l think it's too late for me LOL
He is tested each year and they have not yet changed at all. But he is only 7 - diagnosed with the allergy at 3.
I assume yours is a peanut allergy. How strong is the reaction?
l've had,the allergy less than 10 years
Extreme reaction -- hives, etc. And developed allergies to raw peas and oatmeal around the same time
How strong was the reaction to peanuts when you were tested?
Was never tested, but, having eaten them every day at cocktail time for many years, it was clear
Same thing with oatmeal, ate if 3X/wk for many years and then within one week went from a small itch to full-blown hives
He takes medication every day and carries an epi pen.
l keep an epi-pen in the fridge
l'm only asking because Meals on Wheels brought a pistachio mousse today and l was tempted...
I got horrible, horrible food poisoning from pistachios. I will never eat them again.
He gets swelling of tongue, mouth and eyes. Hives and itching everywhere. But now he does not eat any tree nuts or peanuts and has to avoid anything made in factories that process peanuts or tree nuts. We have learned to look at labels
Can you eat cashews without any reaction? It says that pistachios are related to cashews.
Same symptoms here, but never realized ,that allergies could develop in someone this old
l'm afraid to try
Best to be safe and not eat it
molly, how did you know it was food poisoning, not an allergy?
Because allergies don't make you throw up until your stomach hurts
that's awful

Happy New Year!
Bye Dose
Judi, has your behind frozen off yet? Yee Gods it's cold.
Successfully keeping my behind and other body parts from freezing solid. For now.
We were out briefly this morning. The wind is making it even worse.
It has been a horrible week or so. People who ♥Love♥ the winter elude me.
I have zero love for winter.
re 6/21, third one, pls
I love winter, just not the temperatures we've been having. I've never been this cold in my life.
Must have winter to have spring.
We've had a week away from all that. We're visiting family in the Bay Area
That's the only positive thing I can say about it.
Lucky Bichon.
RE6/21: TV shows you've seen before.
Had to have the driveway plowed or we wouldn't have been able to get in the garage
ty Judi
We only got about 3 inches from the storm on Thursday. Still damn cold though.
14 inches here
I'll never see my deck till June.
* shivers *
UGH!
We got about and inch and half. most of it is still here. Woke up this morning anti was 9. That excessive cold for North Carolina.
Schools were closed Thurs and Fri in CT
16 here, on top of the foot and a half we had already
OOF!
About 16 here too. Dreading the utility bill next month. Hubby turned the thermostat down to 63. Says to layer up.
Bless his heart!
we're just outside boston and this weather is truly out of the norm
our chickens haven't left the coop in two weeks
I know, hego. Reminds me of my father. We kept the thermostat at 68 deg. per recommendation of then Pres. Carter - ye olde energy crisis years. Of course, back then, my bedroom was the coldest in the whole house.
Yes, your area is having it rough.
second us6,24?
it's just hard to explain to the kids that no matter how inviting the snow looks it's way too cold to be outside today :)
Put 'em out there for 5 minutes.
That ought to do it.
nm. fireworks.
YAY, MIXI!

Great Judi!!
Hi Ori
In for the last 20...
ty fw
hello friends! first time all day I have sat down, whew@
Hi Trif
Have a rest, Trif...
Thanks, for once I think I will! HAve already reached my step count for the day, huzzah! A babble whilst the floor wax dries will suit just fine
nbt in 22! not such a bad start....does anyone else try to get nbt first? I'm always curious as to how others approach a grid
I usually just type all the words I see first then look at the tiles.
excellent
I normally start from the top right and work my way across and the down tho the next line until I have tried all tiles. I call that my first run through. Then I get on with my day and come back later (like now) and try and find the rest in any order I see words on any tile.
zoozoo that sounds like a solid approach! Do you find when you come back to a grid you end up entering the same words? That always trips me up when I leave and come back, especially on bigger grids.
Interesting. I start from the top left. :)
I used to STRESS over finishing, but now if I hit nbt, nbs, and halfway, I am happy enough
the little number at the bottom of my profile is the number of grids I have ever finished without listing at all.
31 at present, we will see how today goes :)
howdy all
when I play (which is less freuqnetly then I would like) i try for nbt/nbs. I always consider it a victory if I get there
It does not matter to me if I stay and try and do the grid all in one go or if like most days I go and come back...I always find I enter the same word more than once I am sure of it lol
speaking of which, may I have a v clue?
Hello, Jbp
Hego. Yes sorry you are right I meant I start from the top right and work my way left.
VA 4/7
AHA!
Howdy hego! Multitasking here
Nice idea putting how many times you have finished the grids without lists, in your profile, Trif. Does that include no help from stats or clues in the chat log?
ty. my monkeys would have found it... tomorrow, perhaps
Hi Ori :)
One more week in my job and then I start my new half-time one!!
Congrats!!
Break time!
What sre you going to break, Hego :-)
zooz, I do use clues from the log, yeah
When i start my grids I often turn the chat log off so I do not see the stats or clues. But not always.
I do the same thing, Zoom. There are too many gratuitous clues in the chat and I like to find words on my own.
Molly I take it..it is still very cold where you are? My friend is going to New York on Tuesday. i did warn him that it is very very cold there!
what I find amazing is the collective unconscious in the chog - I often find I will be struggling to find a word, and before I can type, someone else, miles away, has asked for a clue for the EXACT same word
or the number of times simply asking for a word helps me instantly find it - what many babblers call "psychic cluing"
Zoom, it is supposed to warm up on the east coast by Tuesday. I think your friend will be okay.
Just taking your eyes off the grid for a few minutes can help you too. Well it does for me. So I will go and do a jigdi puzzle or music on youtube for a bit then come back I find mores words quickly by doing that, Trif!
that does help sometimes - I go grid blind, as you say
Thanks, Molly, I will let him know!
and zooz, I would tell your friend to be ready! NYC is COLD in the winter - the wind comes racing down those hard city streets!
but cold is such a relative thing. My darling sister can feel cold in August, so....
Zoom, best chance for your friend to see what the weather will be like is to do a Google search on New York City weather.
Yeah she must be like me, Trif I feel cold pretty much all the time lol
she is a chilly one, that is for sure.
hi babies. i am finally able to communicate..... have been dimed by the chest congestion "thing" that has been affecting the whoe country. it has kicked mu\y old butt royally since christmas
hi Sammy! Welcome back to the land of the living!
Blessings SMom. Sorry you have been so sick. Hope you are on the mend soon.
My parents have the same thing, Sammsmom, They have been ill for six weeks and counting now1
thanks... that's just the thing / i was afraid i was going to die.. then afraid i wouldn t. refused to go to hospital... that scares me more
Blessings to your parents too, Zoom.
I totally get that, SMom. Hospitals will kill you faster than anywhere else.
Thanks, Molly.
Did you have the flu jab, Sammysmom?
bless them zoo. having copd (as i do) and then this crap just sucks the life out an old gal.
oh I am sorry to hear of your troubles, sammy
My parents did and my sister and they all got the flu! I didn't and it did not touch me thank goodness.
I don't believe in flu shots. Most people I know who get them, get the flu anyway.
not flu per say no body aches or temp... just chest congestion and difficulty breathing... unfortunately i have a terrible fear of hospitals since thery damned near killed me the4 last time i was there
I don't believe in them either, molly
was able to do my lwn breathing treatments here since we have in the house oxygen tanks and a concentrator and sever of the meds for breathing problems and the equipment
I hear you, Sammysmom. My parents refuse to go to the hospital too. We even got an ambulance out at one point but my dad refused to go anywhere.
No my dad said he will never have the flu jab again.
that is wise, i think, molly.. i r efused the flu shots for myself and walter too
I now regularly get flu shots, they say they gradually build up your immune system over the years. Even if I get the flu, it will hopefully be less severe than the ones that put even young fit adults in hospital
Glad you are on the mend, Sammysmom!
Hello, Lynxxx!
Hi
My parents have had the flu jab every year for many years now. But it nearl killed them this time.
a small hint.... oil of lavendar in mineral oil dabbed on the chest and throad and even the stomache help with the breathing
Although to be fair they are pretty frail anyway. But I do not want to lose them over something that could of easily been avoided.
well, probably not the 'jab'. I think it is hard for the medico's to keep up with the strains
Will let my mother know, Sammysom. My dad has very bad asthma so not sure if that would help with the smells.
thanks for the good wishes my friends and i hooe you and yours are chugging along as i am
That's just it, Lynxxx. They could get the jab for one strain of the flu and get hit by a different one. Not easy that is for sure.
zoom if the smell botthers.. try it kn the stomach and cover with a cloth. maybe damp? or even on the bottom of the feet and put socks kln.. the body will absorb it an help. sometimes just the slightest thing can make a difference in the comfort level
My mother will try it that is for sure.
menthol may help also

inertia is setting in, oh dear....will be hard to get up and in gear again.
what time is it there?

I am a morning person (too?), hopeless in the evenings
I'm usually useless in the mornings. born on theatre time, me....though now I like ALL opportunities to sleep
well I wouldn't dare to suggest it was age - let's just say you do too much
Hey Babblers. Snuggled up in my new Christmas PJ's, glass of wine to my left hand, TV remote to my right hand, fragrant after a nice bath using all my Christmas smellies, & a big fire roaring. Happy Little Christmas!
what a picture! HNY Soodle
Jan 6th known as Little Christmas or Nollaig Na mBan .... Women's Christmas. And HNY to you too, Lynn :-)
41 left in this grid & losing the will to continue....
TY Interesting, hadn't heard of that b4 - though I knew Dec 25 was more of a 'convenience'
The theory is that on Jan 6th, women take the day off & the menfolk do the household chores. (Yeah right).
You could have told me of this 2 days ago - now 7th Jan
Definition of myth: Menfolk do the chores
Sorry Lynn..... Put a note in your diary for 2019!! And as Chez Soodle is a veritable convent - no menfolk- all the 'chores' were done by Moi!!!
All Christmas paraphenalia taken down & put away for another year.... Dear Lord!! How can so much dust accumulate over 2 weeks???
I ran out of time this year, the only thing I managed was the wreath on the door and cards on the mantles (which I might do again next year!)
Bye everyone - a lovely cool day here after yesterdays sweltering heat - going to enjoy
Bye Lynn :-)
