Sleep well, Flosey
right with you flosey -- good night all
Sleep well, nan
Goodmorning
ooh a big one, the opposite of yesterday!
Hello Jane
l'll bet it's colder in NY than where you are
We're not too cold, around freezing. We missed out on the storm that the east coast had!
Back. Is anybody here?
Hello, Ruby :-)
Hello zzoozz!
The sun is trying to come out, fighting thr mists on the lake and the cliffs
You and l are both fortunate to live in such temperate climates!
It is around 4.5c here at the moment. I have put my ashing out and it is getting darker outside. I am hoping it does not rain lol
I want it hot!
They predicted rain and/or snow + Wind, but Nothing bad happened
l've vowed to go outside every day it's warm or hot this year
I need to prune back my trees this Winter. But not sure how to do it yet. Can not afford a tree surgeon to do it as they are very expensive he4.
Can you Google pruning methods?
I have but they seem to be for big trees and not smallish trees. Don't want to make them look horrible.
l used to use a Professional gardener, but he charged a fortune. Now l use an ordinary, slightly Strange, buy
guy*
Plus I am scared of heights lol so I can only go half way up and saw off from there.
and he seems to "understand" roses
Glad you have someone who can do these for you , Ruby. Would not want you trying to do them.
Nothing could get me up a ladder! lol
No I am not keen myself lol
I want to do it before the buds break through so as not to hurt the trees if that makes sense.
When l designed the garden, from scratch, because there was nothing, l put in tiny evergreens which turned into monsters and have had to be excised, one-by-one
Surely Google can give you correct timing
Yes soe evergreens can get well out of hand!
Yeah it is around now.
l've blocked more than half my view of the lake
but a little is enough
I do not want to cut them down too much as it gives me a bit of privacy from the outside world lol
l prefer plants
Yes I much prefer plants. But I also love the birds coming into the trees to feed all year round. But the Summer months is wonderful with their bird songs!
That's how l feel about my hedges, much to the neighbors'
displeasure
Hedges look nicer than fences but at the same time I also like my privacy in the garden so fences are also good as you can get the height!
l think there was a hedgehog in the garden last night because both dogs barked for a long time
Do not see hedgehogs around where I am as most people have fences and the hedgehogs can not get through them.
One neighbor cuts "my" hedge, which i find very annoying as he has it done too sharply
In fact I have not seen a hedgehog on the island at all.
l've only seen one, but l think there are two because l've heard them shouting
(mating?)
Your neighbour should only be allowed to trim the hedge on his side of the property as far as I know, Ruby.
Not sure what that would aound like, Ruby. i know foxes make a hell of a noise when they are doing a mating call.
True, but he is arrogant, doesn't ask, and uses the expensive "rose guy", so l get stuck with that guy for my side There is even a fence
It is hard to try and keep the peace with neighbours when they are doing something you do not want them to do. Maybe have a word with the rose guy and say it is your headge and you are not keen on him trimming it back that hard.
Hedge*
Sorry for all the typos.
... just tell the rose guy you didn't ask him to cut the hedge and you're not going to pay him ... he'll stop
What! they expect you to pay for it too!
Ha! they would have no chance with me that is for sure.
... sorry ... I thought that's what ruby meant by being "stuck"
Not sure, Doseffing. If that is the case I would not pay. But then you would have an odd looking hedge. trimmed to excess one side and normal the other. Hard situation to be in.
Looks like, ruby has gone off line.
Hope I have not stressed her out.
... I can only look at one side so I don't mind ... neighbour hates me ... big cedar hedge ... very lopsided
I like the look of cedar hedges but I bet it takes ages to clean up all the trimmings afterwards.
I did type that a while ago but the babble time glitch swallowed my post lol
Mael is in the grid today so gets to wear the babble tiara!
back
hi dose
hi ruby ... hi zoom ... just back following the 500am CST reboot of the server
Welcome back :-)
The problem is that thet "rose guy's" mother is a friend of mie
Morning all, the extra cold has gone away, now we have snow.
... yes ... cedar hedges are nice and have a nice scent ... but the snow does nasty things to them ... the weight pulled one tree almost out ... it leans out of line at a 45degree angle and I can't figure out how to prop it back up
Hello, Sukee :-) Glad the weather is warming up for you!
Hi zoo, yes, I can sit comfortably in my living room without a scarf :)
Talk to the mother, Ruby she could be the go between i am sure the rose guy would understand. If you feel uncomfortable talking to him about it that is.
The French are funny about money.
The French are funny about money.
https://tinyurl.com/ybzoy278
That might help you, Doseffing!
l'm sorry i used him in the first place but the roses have been lovely, all in shades of pink, rose, salmon, purple and red
They soiund lovely, Ruby!
How did that 'i' get in lol
lf l can figure out how to charge the cémera and put pix into the computer, l could share the loveliness of the spring & summer garden
camera*
that mispelling looked like Turkish!
Nope it was slovak :-)
may l pls have stats for the 9 (or a clue, if it's not too early)
why not go to youtube and look at the videos on ho to do it, Ruby?
... I thought it was some mythological beast with the head of an eagle, the body of a lion, wings and a pointy tail
It was put as TA 9 earlier, Ruby. But do not have it yet.
sounds like a beast l'd enjoy having around
... check out chimera
Fire breathing lion type creature by the looks of it.
... that's the one ... I think that it eats tourists too
l think it's the symbol for an English brand of pettrol
Ha!
that's a good thing!
l think tourism is Annecy's sole industry
Like here, Ruby.
... it certainly seems that way in Paris
No pollution, just summer traffic
ta9/90 ... cab + unit of measure ... how you determine the price of your ride
Ah a compound word. thanks, Doseffing!
thanks, dose!
Oh what I am putting in is not working.
... american spelling
... must be off ... snow to shovel ... math classes to give ... ah the joys of modern living ... ... luck to all
Thanks for that, Doseffing!
Af*** typing his name, l re**ized that do** is in the grid.
I was so stupid I kept try MA not TA..Do not ask me why.
Do** he get a crown?
No Mael gets the crown as her whole monika is in the grid!
Tiara. Sorry.
l vote for do**!
good morning all
Hello, Sprite :-)
*hugs zooz* Hello dear man, how lovely to see you. I hope you made a good start with the year. How are you and how are your parents?
I am well thanks my arents are now showing signs of getting better thank goodness. So much so I am having a day to myself!
How are things with you?
Parents*
My typos are rife today!
I am so glad, zooz, that has taken quite some time, for them to mend to this point. I am glad you are getting back some YOU-time.
I am okay. Have had a bit of a rough december, but things are definitely looking up now. Getting back my positive attitude.
Yes the flu virus is really bad in the UK this year. Not sure if it is the same for other countries.
I have heard the same here. I got the flu before we got our shots. Am over it now though, so all good.
That is good to hear, Sprite. Feeling down is a bummer that is for sure. I can vouch for that as I am that a lot lol
Yah tnhey reckon the flu jab was not very affective this year.
*grins* Ikr? Sucks pretty bad. Sometimes it is hard to find the way out.
Effective sorry.
it is always a kind of gamble with the flu shots. They have to predict which flu strains will be dominantly present in the season to come... and sometimes they are wrong. Or late.
I am going to type slower as my spelling and typos are very bad today.
you make perfect sense to me, don't worry
*quick check whether perfect is in the grid... pfui, it is not*
They were predicting the Australian flu virus forhere this year. Not sure what one my parents had but it nearly killed them off.
Ha! There are smaller everyday words that are in the grid that WILL trip most od us up.
really grateful they managed to get through it. Thanks to your loving care, no doubt
And my sister too she has helped a lot with the driving. Plus she is looking after them today to give me a break to annoy everyone on here LOL
*giggles* The really tiny words do not count in big grids, or the chog would become unreadable with all the asterixes :D
Well I have chatted so much today it has taken me an age to do my first run through. I now have 113 left!
sometimes chatting is more important. Gooooo zooooooz!
I put my washing on the line a few hours ago and since then it has looked like it wants to rain. Not sure if it is going to dry.
good morning Sprite - just came up for air!!! have been hurrying so I can get back to bed
fw and now back to bed
*hugs flosey* Good evening, dear lady. Pretty late for you, isn't it? I hope you will sleep well and dream even better.
last word re6/42
wtg flosey!!!!!!!!!
thanks Sprite and you have a lovely day
Hi all
thank you
Hello, Liz :-)
Congrats, Flosey
Hugs Sprite
Hi Zooz
*hugs Liz* How are you and your beloved? Just heard from the seller of the book that he still has it, so am gonna pay today and will receive it this week.
Great - hope you enjoy it. It really fired my imagination.
zooz, sometimes there is so much dampness in the air, the laundry just refuses to dry! I know, our country is as bad as yours in that respect
am sure I will. The duncton series is amazing.
I know what you mean - we get that too but it's humidity for us and sometimes really heavy rain.
Looking forward to reading that.
I am on the second book of a trilogy of Miss Peregrine's perculiar children! They seem to be good books so far.
sounds good, zooz
Haven't read those but have heard of them and heard good things about them.
I heard there were record breaking heat in Australia yesterday, Liz. But the country is so HUGE not sure which part if not all is getting it.
That was true of Sydney yesterday. Not for us. We're about 900km north of Sydney.
It sounded awful there - 47 C I think they said.
Yes 47c is what they said on the news yesterday too!
I like it hot as you know.. I think that is a bit extreme.
I think we were around 31 C yesterday and a bit cooler today.
ouch, that is way too hot for me
Like most people say..it is not so much the temp but the humidity that goes with it.
£1c sound nice to me, Sprite!
31 in dry heat is doable, for me. But not when it is humid. Humid heat = carrying an elephant with me on my neck all day
31C*
'zacly :)
31 was nice - we used the pool this morning and then walked on the foreshore this afternoon - very relaxing day.
Not too humid today.
Sounds lovely, Liz!
Just waiting to hear that our guest's plane landed safely back in Melbourne then off to bed - pretty tired.
I think it is time for me to take a break now. Need to grab a bite to eat and give other babblers a chance to natter as I have hogged the chat log for ages now. Nice to see you all.
speaking of huge... going by plane from one part of your country to the other... almost unimaginable for us
Have a lovely day, Zooz.
it was lovely to see you, zooz. Have a great day, with lots of YOU-time! *hug*
Take care, ((Ruby)) ((Sprite)) ((Liz)) in no particular order!
Just had a shower in my sub-zero bathroom. Who needs a polar bear dip...
It's a 2 hour flight from here to Melbourne and 2.5 in the other direction - guess that's to do with prevailing winds.
lol sukee :)
Sounds unpleasant, Sukee
*sends warm vibes to sukee to help her defrost*
It is actually supposed to be 1C here today.
It is, my bathroom is always cold. But, the hot water helped.
tealer
It's 10.15 pm here and it's still 24 C
rate
I'll send you some of our warmth.
try the other box, duval :)
I would just like one hour of your warmth :) Then I would be happy for another few weeks.
I'd share if I could.
it is actually freezing here today, but it is a nice cold. With sun and clear skies. Beats the hell out of grey and rainy.
As long as there's no wind, I agree. Wind chill can be nasty.
sukee, how about a visit to the sauna?
Yes, that was our worst problem, wind chill. It was gusty last night.
That sounds good sprite, should start looking for one.
always helps me when I feel like I haven't been warm for ages. Burns the chill right out of my bones.
When I was a kid the apartment building we lived in had a sauna and I used to love to sit in it after swimming.
wow, that is great, to have one so accessible
Yes, I was spoiled then :)
:D
:)
the same three alt. spellings for not kosher today, Liz
As yesterday :)
yes :)
But I have to say thanks because I hadn't seen them yet!
I have ta 9, do you have the other 9?
*grins* I always think of you with jewish words
Or does anyone?
The highest I have is one 7 letter word.
But like I've said, the Jewish words often confuse me because I don't see them written - they're just words I know. My last word on yesterday's grid was the alternative spelling of today's al 4/7.
I have one 9 and 2 8s.
I do, let me see
st9/60, compound
Hmmm. I'll have to think about that one. Thanks.
let me know if you want a clue
Ty sprite, that one jumped right out at me.
yay sukee!
I hadn't tried any st words yet :)
Now I have 5
I have 5 x st words but not the st 9
one of those 5 starts the 9
Great
Perhaps I'll see it tomorrow. I'm tired - need some sleep. Hugs to all.
I do understand, about not seeing words because you are not used to seeing them written.
*hugs Liz* Sleep well, and have a great day tomorrow.
found a men's magazine in the grid.
:D
I have to be off too. Have a good night and a lovely day, sukee
Take care.

yw...I had to put on my "thinking cap" today
Leaving work at noon today to avoid the "wintery mix" that will befall us later in the afternoon. I want no part of that mess.
Good plan, Judi...
After how many weeks of this cold? We had a toilet freeze...
Oh no, Bea! Never heard of a frozen toilet before.
You never know in this old house.
And last night wasn't as cold as it has been.
Having lived in an old house, I can understand. Only modern structures for me now. Our first house was a money pit because of stuff like that.
Hubs can fix anything that goes wrong.
Well, bless his heart. My hubby can fix most things (albeit grudgingly), but some stuff on that house was just a nightmare. Septic system decided to stop draining. We had to excavate the yard and have about 150 yards of drainage tile put in. That was on top of having the septic system drained twice. We were quite poor then, so I cried a lot.
bzz my husband can too
Also, the water heater blew up (steam filled the whole house). The furnace died and had to be replaced. Frequent frozen pipes. I hated that house.
2nd column e?
I can see how ou would, Judi.
ef4/7
hi bzz ty
Morning, mlf.
I can't fix anything hardly.. just not mechanical
lol, Ru. Thanks for just taking up space.
<---knows how to make money to hire someone to fix things
Well, that really is the best remedy. Pay to have some poor schmuck fix broke down anything.
<---just found one of the 9 letter words:)
YEA! mlf!
ty bzz
Most of the poor schmucks around here know nothing about fixing anything but will tell you they do...
is ta9 a compound word?
yes
We are very careful when picking contractors for anything. There are so many scam artists out there.
