HiYa, sprite!

1:05 am

*hugs Kam* Hello there, dear one, how are you doing today?

1:07 am

well! Doggie is groomed and looks like a Springer Spaniel again. Got laundry and all of his bedding clean, and hubs will be home on Sunday. Life is good!

1:07 am

And how are you? I hope you have a sunny morning :)

1:08 am

sounds good :) One more full day alone for you, and then you can hug your beloved again.

1:08 am

Thanks for the tip. I would have never have guessed that

1:09 am

:)

1:09 am

enough for tonight, will wish you all sweet dreams or a great day, depending on where you are

1:09 am

skies are grey here this morning. But I don't have many chores waiting for me today, I can take it very easy and do things I like, so the weather will not bother me.

1:09 am

bye nan

1:09 am

It's that time of year, you never know what you'll wake up to unless you watch the forecast...and you'll still be surprised most of the time

1:10 am

Night nan, sweet dreams!

1:11 am

hehehe yeah, the forecasts are as often wrong as they are right. If I had been wrong as often as the forecasters back when I still worked for a boss, I'd have been fired within a year!

1:13 am

haha! Weather just sneaks right in when they're not watching. I only check predicted temps when I have to dress comfortably enough to not freeze, and I usually layer, just in case it gets warmer

1:14 am

smart moves. I usually go about my business without even checking the weather. It is as it is :)

1:16 am

hi Sprite -- sorry for the delay -- hit something by mistake and had to figure out how to get back to the normal display for expert

1:16 am

We've been ranging from mid 70s to low 30s the past couple of weeks, that makes a difference in what one wears

1:16 am

no harm done, nan. Glad you figured out how to get back here.

1:17 am

layers is a great way to go in any weather, Kam, you are so right about that

1:17 am

I hate it when a cat marches across the keyboard...who knows where my browser will go. So far they haven't posted anything...

1:21 am

might lead you to unknown options in the menu though :D

1:23 am

Fireworks! woo hoo!

1:23 am

wtg sinnergy

1:24 am

As long as they don't post, I can fix it. They have posted on Facebook, but I quickly deleted. The whole problem is the "terrain" of the desk being the first place to jump up, then march across to the food bowl. Odd setup, but have to keep cat food on a table away from the dog

1:24 am

WTG Sinnergy!

1:24 am

yes, that makes sense indeed. I used to have the catfood on the sink for the same reason

1:25 am

I'm SO lucky they stay off of the kitchen counters! All of them are so good about that.

1:26 am

brb, dog is awake and wants food

1:31 am

back

1:31 am

I know how that goes - my dog used to paw at my leg, but I retrained him to nose my arm. He'll still paw if his nose can't reach my arm and he wants food. He needed "comfort food" tonight I think, after his grooming. He got a bit impatient toward the end, the gal said

1:32 am

what kind of dog?

1:32 am

must be rather irritating for a dog, I think, to be groomed by a strange lady.

1:32 am

we have a king charles cavalier spaniel

1:33 am

He knows her. Not as well as his previous groomer, but she had a brain tumor show up last year, poor gal. She's doing well, but getting a 2nd round of chemo and only can handle little dogs - my Blaze is 70+ #

1:33 am

Spaniels are the bestest!

1:34 am

woot, that is a big one. And poor groomer girl. Glad she is doing okay.

1:34 am

I am too, she's very young, under 30. What a nightmare, but she's being so brave

1:35 am

so true. You weren't here yet, I think, when we were deciding on which breed of dog. Several babblers adviced me to take a spaniel, and Atalante specifically pointed me to the king charles cavalier. It is the perfect dog for us in every way.

1:36 am

really scary. I hope she will pull through in full remission.

1:37 am

I certainly hope so for her sake - and the fact that she's the best groomer ever! She breeds and shows poodles, so she's a super perfectionist.

1:38 am

quite different from most other breeds though. Iirc, poodles have hair and not fur.

1:40 am

poodles - reminds me when my daughter was little we went to a dog show and she thought the standard poodles were "dogs on wheels"

1:40 am

I adore spaniels. My first doggie love was a cocker my uncle had - I was all of one year old and called it the "goggie wid da gort goat" my mom said. I've had a mix that was supposed to be a Cocker, but was more King Charles - a pretty red girl. Then I adopted a Springer who showed up at the local shelter. I had him for years. When he passed, Springer was all I could imagine again. I love German Shepherd Dogs and Dobermans too, but Springers are just right for me.

1:40 am

awww that is priceless, ursh

1:41 am

That's cute, ursh! I wasn't used to seeing standards until I ran across this groomer. Her dogs are awesome, and so calm tempered.

1:43 am

it was fun finding the right breed. Atalanta and Haz asked all kinds of questions about our lifestyle, then said Spaniel... just as happy to trek all day with you as to laze about, great tempers, sweet and cuddly. And then because of my physical limitations, a small dog was needed, so KCC spaniel :D

1:46 am

Perfect! You're right, I wasn't here then. I'm glad you found a good companion. If I had a fence that could contain one, I probably would have another. Loved my Lucy. My neighbor breeds and shows Corgis. They're ok, but yappy. She gets crazy (and illegal with a propane torch) trying to keep foxtails out of their yard. Two years ago she burned part of our property! The fire dept came out on her last year, and two weeks later, she was at it again.

1:47 am

wow, that is crazy. Is she out of her mind?

1:48 am

In some ways, yes! Very eccentric, but that kind of fits in...except for her carelessness with torches

1:49 am

I don't mind eccentric, but I would draw the line at setting my property on fire

1:50 am

We did pitch a fit, she's containing it to one area - but she set her freaking porch on fire last year! If I hear that torch this year, I'm calling the fire dept ... again.

1:51 am

so would I. This goes beyond neighbour irritations, this is downright dangerous.

1:53 am

I know! I prefer folks who stay legal, especially in such a high danger fire zone. Homeowner's insurance is almost as much as taxes are! California is DRY

1:54 am

you have your share of fires even without people being irresponsible, I think

1:55 am

it's a poopy grid, with cr4 and me5/6

1:56 am

Yes we do. And hubby's house is gone from the big fire in 2015. We can't even start to rebuild yet either, the county is being stupid about permits and such. Our gov't is broken, I hope not beyond repair at the next election. Hahaha, it is one of those grids...

1:57 am

that is so crazy! I thought the Netherlands were bad with permits and all, but this sounds just as hopeless.

1:57 am

I just found a local lake name pa6

1:58 am

*looking*

1:58 am

Bald eagles nest there - it's a favorite day trip nearby.

1:58 am

got it :D Thanks for the pointer

2:00 am

another of dem obsolete words that enable loves so much. It was used as a mild oath, or to say indeed.

2:03 am

I didn't even look that one up - the name is so familiar. Our cursed lake, haha! It's the only one that is usually full - it's a reservoir, actually.

2:04 am

I am always trying to learn a new word a day from babble, lol. Even after 14 years, it still works.

2:06 am

Always! And so many alternate spellings too. The py group is a challenge tonight.

2:06 am

had not even realised there might be py words today. Some of my missing ones hiding there!

2:12 am

Okay quick first run through and have 57 left for later.

2:12 am

*hugs zooz* Hello dear man, good to see you. How are you today, and how are the parents doing?

2:13 am

((zzoozz))

2:13 am

Hello, Sprite :-) Not seen parents since Sunday (My birthday) as since then I came down with a cold.

2:13 am

But they tell me they are doing okay. I am going to see them today.

2:13 am

Hello ((Ruby))

2:13 am

I am watching Sleepy Hollow on Netflix atm. Very entertaining, and the male lead could easily say something like the pa6. He is Ichabod Crane transferred to our time.

2:13 am

2 days above freezing, so maybe ^pring is coming after all

2:14 am

In two weeks, the garden will be full of flowers!

2:14 am

And now I have a swollen bottom lip and I can tell it is a cold sore coming up. Ugh!

2:14 am

poor zooz. And belated Happy Birthday to you! May your next year of life be happy and relaxed :)

2:14 am

poor zzoozz!

2:15 am

ugh, that is lousy, zooz. Do you have cold sore treatment in the house? The sooner you start, the better it will work.

2:15 am

You're not supposed to get a cold for your birthday, zooz! I hope you feel better soon, and belated happy wishes!

2:15 am

Still cold here so I am hoing it will start to warm up soon, Ruby!

2:16 am

too many kisses!

2:16 am

Hi Ruby, haven't seen you in ages! How are you? Glad to hear your weather is warming

2:16 am

No I don't, Sprite. I am going to see if I can get one on the way up to see parents.

2:16 am

Thanks, Kamanjah!

2:16 am

Warming only a little, but it gives me hope after winter's Slough of Despond!

2:16 am

smart move, zooz. Having a cold is bad enough without a fullblown sore

2:18 am

I know it can be contagious so I will not be doing any kisses.

2:19 am

highly contagious indeed

2:20 am

Both my parents had cold sores recently too but theirs did not look that big. Mine always blow up like a ruddy cauliflower :-9

2:20 am

:-(*

2:20 am

so painful too

2:20 am

Finished! I'm going to go try to get in bed "early" tonight. Lots to do tomorrow before my sweetie gets home Sunday!

2:20 am

Feel better, Zooz.

2:21 am

Congrats, Kamanjah and sweet dreams!

2:21 am

sleep well, Kam, and happy dreams of a speedy reunion with your beloved.

2:21 am

Thanks Kamanjah. I feel okayish now.

2:21 am

wtg Kam on finishing, too!

2:21 am

Thanks, Sprite, have a great day! And a good day or night to all!

2:21 am

thanks, dear one :)

2:22 am

It is just above freezing here at the moment.

2:22 am

I'll email you some pix from pa6 later - have to find them.

2:22 am

oh I'd like that! Thanks!

2:22 am

*hugs* *over and out*

2:23 am

here as well, zooz. No more clear skies and wintry sun, alas. Slightly warmer and we are back to grey, grey, grey... and wet.

2:24 am

Blue clear skies here at the moment.

2:25 am

Okay just checked online the chemist opens at 9am

2:25 am

that is great winter weather for me. I love the crispy air and the sun in winter.

2:25 am

ah good, zooz.

2:25 am

I will ask them to give me a cream that will make the sore go away in an hour :-)

2:26 am

good idea, LOL! I like the little stickers best, but they only work for sores on the outside of the lips. The ones that are partly on the inside will have to be creamed. Every few hours.

2:27 am

Oh no I like it nice and warm. Not keen on the cold weather at all. Why I was born here I will never know. My parents should of had me in a much hotter climate than here.

2:27 am

Oh I think this one will come up on the outside of the lip. I do not recall getting one on the inside .

2:28 am

hehehe, silly parents! I am kind of an all weather kinda gal. The only thing I really cannot handle is high temps with high humidity.

2:29 am

in that case, get some of those lip bandage stickers too. Once you have one in place, you will not feel the pain anymore.

2:30 am

Okay will ask about them. Thanks. Well I had better get of and get ready to buy some. Have a great day, ((Sprite)) & ((Ruby))

2:31 am

have a lovely day, zooz, and my best to your parents. *hugs* and feel better soon!

2:31 am

Bye zzoozz, no kisses but a non-contagious hug!

2:51 am

phantom remedies

3:13 am

Sexpay...money given to a hooker : )

3:20 am

My angel Jérôme just left after poking the sruggling fire l had made

3:20 am

struggling*

3:21 am

I hope you have a toasty little fire going now.

3:21 am

lt's raing, of course, but two days above freezing and it feels like spring

3:21 am

There'll be 100 flowers within the next two weeks; theere are already wild primroisees

3:22 am

After weeks of single digit temperatures this winter, anything above 20 feels like Spring to me.

3:22 am

I bought a little potted primroses a few weeks ago because it was so colorful and "Spring looking".

3:23 am

Your winter was worse than mine, Molly, here is was rainy and grey, but much less snow than predicted

3:23 am

Which color primroses?

3:24 am

We are to have some kind of crappy "wintry mix" tonight into tomorrow. I don't care much about that kind of weather when I am home on the weekend.

3:24 am

They are yellow primroses. Very cheery.

3:24 am

"wintry mix" sounds nasty

3:25 am

Can you plant them in the garden after?

3:26 am

I will certainly move them outside when the weather permits. My plants always do better outside.

3:27 am

They're very hardy and grow wild here

3:27 am

Lots of words for sh*t in here!

3:27 am

They are a harbinger of Spring. Glad you are seeing some. My sister saw some daffodils in bloom yesterday. Mother Earth is waking up.

3:28 am

My daffs formed buds but need a couple of warm days to open

3:29 am

l didn't plant the daffs, either, they came with the house

3:39 am

What a pleasure not being cold!

3:41 am

First run-through -- 92 but no 8 or middle O. Tant pis!

3:41 am

See you lateer

6:21 am

Before the usual discussion about how you can't pr7 a word (using a keyboard) the word means to foreshadow. The definition says "obsolete" which is par for the course with the archaic Enable word list.

7:25 am

What a nice gift upon entering! TY Molly

7:27 am

crap

7:27 am

oops, sorry

7:42 am

hello all

7:45 am

While we are on the subject of crap, I have never seen the French pancake spelled like it is in this grid. Except for maybe some illiterate, rural places.

7:48 am

Oh, no problem there. I can whip up a good breakfast in no time.

7:49 am

I could eat breakfast food any time of day

7:50 am

There are several restaurants here that serve all day breakfast. Apparently, the art of cooking breakfast has fallen by the wayside (shame) and people really like traditional breakfast foods.

7:50 am

if a place can cook an egg correctly then its worth something

7:51 am

Very clever, Ru

and....

FIREWORKS!!!! *breaks into happy dance*

i will be here to give hints, maybe not talking but I will be here

11:40 am

a thought before I leave....

11:41 am

If we can have a "no fly list", why can't there be a "no gun list"?

idk

11:42 am

I'm with you on that one Nan.. with regular searches of the house to make sure of that

11:42 am

Do you know how many people who try to take their guns with them on flights?

gtg byeee

11:43 am

Yay

11:57 am

we can't because the only country in the world wealthy enough for Olin, Ruger, Smith & Wesson and the rest to profitably sell to private citizens happens to have a consitutional amendment for those companies to hide behind

11:58 am

and a river of campaign money to spend to keep it that way

11:59 am

*gets down off the soapbox of the day

11:59 am

pity

11:59 am

sorry

12:09 pm

These united states could abolish the second amendment and there would still be gun violence. People who want to do bad things with guns get them illegally.

12:18 pm

I agree with that Molly, but how do kids get their hands on assault rifles.> They should be banned

12:20 pm

They could be banned, just like liquor was during prohibition. People get banned things anyway. The problem is the state of mental health not the availability of guns. Mentally healthy people do not commit violent acts with guns.

12:21 pm

yes they do - and then they call it temporary insanity as the defense

12:26 pm

the problem is actually both, Molly. We need to work on both.

12:26 pm

we absolutely need to work on both

12:26 pm

mental health issues exists in all countries, but no other country has mass shootings like the us

12:27 pm

Do a Google search on gun violence. The US is not the ONLY country with that problem. The things that happen here just get more media coverage.

12:27 pm

Yes there are mael

12:28 pm

I don't need to. I am just so tired of the argument that we shouldn't do anything about the easy access to guns because murders will still happen. That's been true the entire history of our species

12:28 pm

Iran, afghanistan, several african countries, recently in pakistan, syria, egypt etc

12:29 pm

I think access to weapons needs to be set up in a different way.

12:29 pm

the success criteria isn't getting rid of murders, it's making it harder for them to be mass killings

12:29 pm

those are all unstable countries with guerrilla warfare

12:30 pm

you need to compare the us with similarly developed and rich countries

12:30 pm

I will leave you left leaning people to discuss this.

12:33 pm

I'm actually more of a centrist myself these days

12:34 pm

when I grew up I had to lean far left as my Dad was an extreme right-winger, so someone had to balance the axis of the world

12:34 pm

I've very left and so is my husband, who is a gun owner

12:35 pm

he's just a gun owner in favor of restrictive and sensible gun legislation

12:36 pm

I don't have a problem with normal, responsible people having guns. But it gets dicier with people who have children and aren't super safe though. I think people who apply to get guns should get more screenings, and background checks, and some testing. I think the same for people planning to have children though :D

12:38 pm

I think there should be mandatory insurance, mandatory checks to make sure guns are secured properly, and revokable gun licenses

12:38 pm

and a strict chain of ownership and registration for guns

12:38 pm

one of the most interesting hypotheses I've seen is that if black Americans started buying assault rifles at the same rates as white Americans, we'd have all of that within a month

12:38 pm

I agree with that too

12:39 pm

you're absolutely right, dan2bit

12:39 pm

agree 100% ru...

12:40 pm

case in point.. my parents should never have had kids... they'd never have passed the test.. but then you'd all be punless more or less

12:41 pm

and that would be sad, ru :)

12:43 pm

That's a big reason I never had kids, I knew I'd be a crappy parent. I wasn't given the skills necessary to raise one properly. I greatly respect people who can and can do it well

12:49 pm

mehbe not all of them :D

12:52 pm

All that Americans can do is vote for candidates who are not in thrall to the NRA; many pols (including Trump) get millions from that lobby.

12:54 pm

You can't compare the number of killings by militants in war-torn countries or terrorists in Europe to school children killed in the US

12:55 pm

absolutely, ruby

12:55 pm

I was just pointing out that there are mass shootings and killings around the world. The issue in America centers around providing more care in Mental health in my opinion.

12:56 pm

I think all white trash Nazi Wingnuts shouldn't be allowed to have a gun for starters

12:56 pm

All the emotional rreactions, hugs and prayers won't do anything

12:56 pm

The NY Times ran an excellent article on the top 10 U.S. Senate and House members in terms of NRA donations for the past ten years. Not surprisingly, almost all are republican. There are a couple of more articles in the series. Worth a read.

12:56 pm

This article ran yesterday.

12:57 pm

No, ru, thee mass killings elsewhere are generally militants. The incidence of mental heealth is the same percentagee in all the "civilized" counttries of Europe

12:57 pm

as in the US

12:58 pm

l get the international edition of the Times

12:59 pm

I read the digital edition of the Times.

1:00 pm

l couldn't keep up with the news if l had to read it in French; it would be a full-time job

1:03 pm

I spend a lot of time in Quebec and when I have lunch, usually by myself, I have a grand time trying to read Le Soelei in French.

1:04 pm

*Solei

1:11 pm

are there more than one py words? I can't work down that P

1:12 pm

there are 6

1:12 pm

Oh Lord, okay...Americans are evil, mentally unhealthy, gun toting criminals. People in other countries are mentally healthy and never commit crimes. Maybe it is time to go back to discussing the weather.

1:13 pm

god

1:13 pm

kill me know

1:13 pm

1:13 pm

1:13 pm

(that's just a joke considering today's conversation)

1:13 pm

There are 3 legally held firearms in my house - a single barrel & a double barrel shotgun & a rifle. They belong to my son. In order for him to get a licence for these, he underwent psychological & physical examinations (eyesight/hearing tests). The police then came to my home to inspect the gun-safe where these articles are kept. The gunsafe has a triple mortice lock & is bolted to the wall, the floor & the ceiling. I still hate the fact that these damn things occupy my home.

1:14 pm

And there's the problem. It's the kind of gun.

1:14 pm

I wouldn't want a gun in my house

1:14 pm

No one at all needs an assualt rifle.

1:15 pm

I don't either Ru.

1:15 pm

I'd be too tempted to shoot at cars driving by at night with loud bass music on at 2 in the morning

1:16 pm

Justifiable homicide.

1:16 pm

I agree

1:16 pm

:D

1:16 pm

lack of sleep officer

1:16 pm

Thought it was an attack in progress.

1:18 pm

Again, people...in any country...who want to obtain firearms legally, go through the standard licensing procedures. People who want to commit crimes with guns, obtain them illegally.

1:18 pm

My son is in the process of getting passports for the bloody things. (Passports for guns is a thing!!) when the paperwork is sorted, he will take them over to England to his own house. And good riddance, I say!!

1:19 pm

passports for guns? Oh my!

1:20 pm

Molly I don't think anybody disagrees with that premise. The disagreement is over whether that should automatically mean doing nothing about the current system for getting guns.

1:21 pm

that Dan and stiffer penalties for people arrested with illegal guns

1:22 pm

Hi help with ra8 pls

1:28 pm

Dont see ra7

1:28 pm

I don't really know very much about the mental health side, except to say the stigmas about it in US culture are a deterrent to getting real help, as is the general fuckedupitude of our health insurance system

1:29 pm

I strongly suspect there are incremental opportunities there as well, just don't know what they are

1:30 pm

I agree Dan.

1:30 pm

Ramp

1:30 pm

lol...thank you peri! ;-)

1:30 pm

(likes fuckedupitude as a concept) :D

1:30 pm

dang...already had it.

1:31 pm

me too Ru. Great word.

1:32 pm

Funny story..... A Tax Clearance Certificate in this country is called a C45. Before computerisation, fraudulent C45's could be bought on the black market. An acquaintance of mine negotiated with a well known Dublin criminal to obtain a C45. Substantial money changed hands. Imagine his horror when, instead of a Tax Clearance Certificate, he found himself in possession of a Colt 45!

1:33 pm

Oh my!

1:35 pm

True story!!!

1:36 pm

we only give tax clearances to the upper one percent in america

1:39 pm

In this part of the world, if your tax affairs are in order, the Revenue Commissioners will issue you with a C45. Hence it's value on the black market, pre-computer days.

1:40 pm

Greetings, all.

1:40 pm

Still looking for ra7

1:40 pm

Hi Judi

1:42 pm

here in America.. getting a letter from the irs WILL strike fear in your heart

1:43 pm

Well - being audited will strike fear into your heart, really only if you didn't file or you haven't kept proper records.

1:44 pm

I'm IRS sensitive Judi :D

1:44 pm

Hi Peri Hi Judi. Sorry - not got the Ra7 yet, but will look....

1:46 pm

Oh, we all are, Ru. We were audited once. They wanted our tax forms from 12 years prior + the records on the sale of our then house. I sent them the HUD 1 statement and told them to go pound sand because the cut-off for audits is 11 years (or was at the time). They sent me a follow up letter saying no further action was necessary. Hell to the yeah.

1:46 pm

YAY! for Judi

1:46 pm

I thought it was 7 years

1:47 pm

Me too.

1:47 pm

(imagines an IRS office pounding sand)

1:47 pm

:)

1:48 pm

It may be 7 years now. I still save our tax records for 11 years. Never know when the IRS is going to get a bug up their arses.

1:48 pm

Irs accountant to the other: man this pounding sand is a beach

1:48 pm

we keep great records in our business.. but we get notices from the IRS all the time.. and the EDD

1:49 pm

lol Ru

1:49 pm

we also have a great tax consultant that handles all the crap for us

1:50 pm

This grid is awful!

1:50 pm

We have Turbo Tax - which is pretty good at sorting our crap too.

1:50 pm

it's a 8 on the sucko meter hego

1:51 pm

agree!

1:51 pm

I'd flounder a lot with Turbot Tax

1:51 pm

deceptively sucko. look like it would be ok, but...

1:51 pm

i'd also have to regrouper after paying taxes

1:51 pm

Wow. I'm a civil servant. They take approx 40% of my salary before I even get it, on a Pay As You Earn basis. But at least I know I owe them nothing at the end of the day....

1:52 pm

I have an accountant and the Hell with it.

1:52 pm

the feds take over 40% of my income too

1:52 pm

they're just baiting you Ru.

1:53 pm
