good night everyone
good morning all... glad to see a decent-sized grid today :)
{{sprite}} hugs. busy day for me. lenten studies this AM, then afterwards drove to pay the car registration. i thought, seeing as i hold a commonwealth senior cits card, i should receive a discount. *sigh* no such luck.
*hugs rose* Hello my dearest friend. So now sitting with your feet up and a drink at hand?
oh yeah !! and how are you, honey? how did yesterday go?
yesterday was a dud. Started my work shift an hour late because I thought I had the afternoon shift, but it was the late morning shift... too late with baking bread as a result... let the curry soup boil over... singing lesson totally sucked... or rather I sucked in it... one of those days
awww you poor thing. i hate days like that. hugs and kisses
yeah it wasn't fun. Well, that was yesterday. Today should be great. My love and I have tickets for the theater this evening. And I am cooking a new recipe with sweet potatoes.
Hi all. Hugs friends. Sorry you’ve not had such a good day, Rose and Sprite, hope today’s better.
ooooh, sounds yummy. both dinner and the theatre. what are you seeing?
*hugs Liz* On the grand scale of things, I have nothing to complain about :) Ohhhh I must tell you: I am back to baking bread, and I have managed a very good white loaf and a perfect spelt loaf!
{{liz}} hugs
{{liz}} hugs
Great, Sprite. Glad the baking’s going well.
it's two ladies who sing, talk, dance, etc. Cabaret/comedian/singers
how are you and your beloved, Liz?
hope you both have a good belly laugh.
Sounds fun. We’ve got tickets for a free open air Tim Minchin concert on Saturday - really excited - hope the weather is OK.
me too, rose. Just what we need. These ladies have been recommended to me as an evening of smart, relaxed, lovely fun.
*asking the weather gods to be on their very best behaviour on Saturday*
Hope so too - we’re so lucky to have got tickets. It was a lottery for them and they went really quickly.
wow, that is lovely. Glad you got them.
It’s his first concert si 5 he moved back to Aus. We’ve seen him twice before, so it should be good. It’s at the new outdoor auditorium here - first event there.
I hope you and your beloved will have a splendid evening!
Thanks. I’m out of here for now. Hugs both.
bye Liz, enjoy your evening

how is Don doing, Rose?
*catches the squirrel and drags rose back to the puter*
*sigh* don is good. he has nearly finished cleaning all our roof gutters, and putting in gutter guard. up and down the ladder is playing havoc with his knees, but it has to be done before autumn sets in.
is he feeling better now that the temps are down a bit?
yes, we both are. we do have at least one more high day to come that we know about.
I hope you plan on staying indoors that day, with iced coffee and cold drinks and feet up and A/C on.
and babble and me, of course
maybe. i think it maybe on saturday and that is the day we are hoping to pick up dan2bits and take him out.
that should be fun. In that case, pick a restaurant with good A/C :D
brb, am gonna grab some breakfast
hokay

home-baked spelt bread, one slice with meat and two with apple melassse

A quick hello before I put out the garbage and recyclables and head to work. The local schools are closed due to a snowstorm which started last evening and will continue overnight.
Penquis, how are you holding up in your storm? I suspect you have no electricity.
I don't understand the te 9 clue, help
te9...number + two letter plural ending + short for what amplifies a singing voice
Sorry, that is the 8
ty for that Molly
The 9 is a plural. If you are a renter you are someone's te6. Stretch that into plural form.
can't make tenant in this grid
The definition is the period of a te6's occupancy, plural. You don't need to make that word to get the nine. It is a form of it, it does not include the whole word
If you rent for one year, your te7 is for one year. The plural of that. It is a legal word.
ty Molly
The years I've been doing this, I don't think I've ever seen so many small words I had never seen before.....

It accepts anything to do with Yiddish or Hebrew
*Thinks there is an echo in chat

i am still trying to figure out the te 8 clue....
Don' t forget all the little known Scot words Enable loves
oh yes...and the welsh words...
pen ends in ***key mouse
What part of the te8 clue don't you get?
i thought it was the two letter plural, but i am not sure....
oh...i got it....
never seen that one.....
yes in the middle of the word
I think it a new one pen
Usually when people clue "two letter plural" they are referring to that more common one. Not ae or the other obscure ones.
and i was trying the obscure ones... ;o)
Sadly, most of us do not keep a medical dictionary at our fingertips for quick reference. : D

Pen, earlier someone asked if you had lost power. I was trying to figure out how you would respond if you had. : D
if rearm can be a word, why not dearm....
I guess they chose disarm, and stuck with that one...one of those rare narrow choices
well, i didn't lose power at all ... yet....my brother who lives across town lost it for a couple hours....
yes, mool....the wonders of the English language....i have a Russian friend who tutors kids in English in Russia....she often messages me with questions about proper usage and meaning of idioms....

i have da 7/44, too....this one is da 7/48....
ah, okay
could I get a bit more of a clue pls?
for what?
for both da 7s?
pls?
had the 5, but not the 7
one is a plural of a grammatical case...not nominative, not possessive, etc....
the other is a pt of a yiddish word meaning to lead prayers.....that one uses the high point letter....(not the X)....
actually, both use that letter.....the last one i clued goes down the grid then across....
got the da 5/7 about the Yiddish prayer
make it a PT...
use the middle column N....
that's how I got the 7

de8/45 - de + calculus term + I ca*'* believe some of the words in this puzzle....
(wondering what was censored)
Well, there's a recent counterpart to Valentine's Day, celebrated on March 14, so you can google that if you like
when i was teaching we celebrated Pi Day every year - measured circles, ate pizza and other pies, (after having measured them), memorized the digits of pi
we made whoopie pies for my husbands staff, and I'll make a savory pie for dinner
what's in a savory pie?
ah, got it
just savory as opposed to sweet
prob will make a hamburger pie that I grew up with, haven't decided
I wish I had planned on a cheese and onion pie for tonight's dinner...
empanadas could be fun to
what is in cheese and onion pie (besides the obvious cheese and onion)
both pies sound very yummy....
Thats' it.
wow, sounds intense
do you use a pie crust?
just the bottom?
I do
I bet my mom got the recipe from some bill insert or the like... it seems very old fashioned
i meant the onion pie...kje, you use the top and bottom crusts?
she got our carrot cake recipe from the electric bill - best carrot cake ever, I still make it
only the bottom
what else goes in it?
I use sweet onions sliced vey thin and a mix of sharp cheddar and Havarti. It uses top and bottom rust.
ah, shepherds pie may be an idea too.... trying to think of dinner options
My Brit friend serves it with mashed potatoes and peas.
nice, Bea....ty....
interesting bea
Bea, what is a calculus word?
non sweet pie dinners
si4/4
i bet the onion pie would be good with only the bottom crust, too.....i make a tomato and cheese pie that uses only the bottom crust...
bichon....it rhymes with what deaf people do to communicate...
I knew that word from trig, never took calculus, ty
tomato and cheese pie sounds like a pizza ; )
I've been meaning to make a galette...
ty Bea
It could be trig, bich...
it uses similar spices....brush bottom cooked crust with a little Dijon....layer tomato slices (that have been salted and de-juiced earlier)....add some minced garlic...and a little basil....cook until tomatoes are cooked through....may have to wrap crust edges with foil to avoid burning....
Math...bleh!
I like galettes... the lazy person's pie - blueberry when the berries come in is great
the cheese is Swiss....
yes, i make a blackberry and peach galette type desert....yummy...
forogt to say that the cheese goes before the tomatoes...
forgot how to spell forgot, too... ;o)
great ideas - maybe I'll make a savory pie and salad, then a galette for dessert - it is pi day afterall
it's just slices of swiss laid all over the bottom....
I've got to go back to spring cleaning...Yuck!...bzzz
hagd bzzz

its not so much that this one was more awful than any of the others, it's just that we are weary of it. ALL the novelty has worn off. Even the kids are sick of snow days
we have gotten the house routines down, so we are prepared and know what to do to minimize as much damage as possible.
What about June 30th as the last day of school
well, we start in late august, for that very reason, but many other towns do not.
we were supposed to finish the semester on Friday, but now that will have to be put off two days, and it is a real scramble. stressful for all.

lyn did you get a new dog?
I did Peri - see icon. He's going to be great, getting better every day, lovely personality and very friendly to people and other dogs
I was so sorry to hear about your other dog.
Stewart, right?
tough grid
Yes..TY. He had a great life, much loved and reached a very good age for a greyhound - what more could anyone - even a dog - ask for
back again...55 to go here
morning Mool
hey lyn, how's the weather down there?
108 left here. not sure if I will finish
Bet I won't
v. nice way down here in melbourne
cool
I think Dan2bit visited , Melbourne, Recently.
only ever been in the airport there myself
Dan does business trips fly in and out I think
sorry - phone call came in - I see lynxxx came through on the va 5 clue - ty
most liveable city Mool
I've lived in a few cities :)
(if you can afford it)
they all seemed to be liveable...even New York :)
to an extent anyway
love it when my typos turn out to be words
does anyone know how many ox's there are - MY typos aren't working
I have 8 so far
only have one 0 left to find...so max would be 9
TY
oi 5/12

o's complete tx zoo
Welcome.
BBL
seeya later mate
Have a great day, Lynxxx!
Back.
Welcome back, Scrabs :-)
hey scrabbo
I found 90 this morning. I am aiming for halfway.
goals are good...especially in soccer and hockey
lol
if glucose can be a word, why not stevia?
Not sure stevia was very well known when this dictionary was created :)
This dictionary is close to 20 years old now
time for a revision
yeah, there's been several revisions to the official us scrabble dictionary since then
I think there is a newer version of Enable.
Well the version we use is, as far as I can tell..a replication of TWL98, or The Word List from 1998
The most recent OSPD, or official scrabble players dictionary, on which TWL is based was released in 2014 I think
I think the only difference is that the OSPD might not include the derogatory and curse words
But don't know for certain
Sorry TWL apparently is Tournament Word List
I have a scrabble dictionary somewhere and it is not too old so could be the up to date version.
Well there's a separate dictionary for the rest of the world
te 9 please?
Still crap at scrabble though :-)
called SOWPODS, which is a combo of OSW - the British scrabble dictionary and OSPD which is the US one
the British one is much broader
te9...another name for renters perhaps
Scrabble is actually licensed separately in the US versus the rest of the world...causes a great deal of confusion at times
I seem to have gotten stuck on 43
Well it has been a long battle with this grid so far.
probably a great cryptic clue, mool, but nothing comes to mind
yes, and I think I may have lost a limb or two
agree zoom
think of a name for a renter, and then extend it to be more the act of renting, and make it a plural
woot, found two words
Normally ends with a Y but ends with a long plural.
If you rent an apartment for a year, one year is the length of your te7. Make that a plural.
ty molly
11 more but first this short break....
sounds like a cut to an ad
Three for me.
lots for me
Nah only about 37 for you, Mool.
41 actually :)
still a fair amount
Well I was close :-)
indeed you were
more optimistic
think I've found 2 in the last 30 minutes
ooh, another 2
oh, now I'm crushing it
:-)
:)
I will be retiring soon to read a book called ' Rebecca' By Daphne Du Maurier. Avery good read if I may say so.
I can imagine, only read short stories by her
The only other book I have read of hers is a book called September Tide. And I loved it so thought I would give this book a try.
might look them up
Worth it , mool.
My next book waiting for me to read in my pile. Is The Book Of Dust by Philip Pullman.
been there for a while has it? ;)
Who happened to be my english teacher when I was a wee little lad!
oh, very cool
or very intimidating maybe
A bit of time as I had three other books to read before it came to the top of the pile.
Rebecca is a classic Zoom. Good choice.
I sometimes get into the habit of reading multiple books at the same time
No Cool is correct. I love the idea that he used to teach us.
took me about 9 months to read moby dick...would not recommend it to anyone
Oh I am glad you have read it, Molly! I am loving it. although I am three quarters in now so know the end is coming :-(
unless you just happen to love 17th century whaling technical details I guess
lol
And I did find out how the sperm whale got it's name, and what ambergris is
Can not read lots of book at the same time, Mool. Unless one is a factual book maybe.
not that I believe I've ever used either fact for benefit
*Wishes Ru was here for a discussion that involves dick and sperm
Oh good grief don't tempt fate, Molly LOL
Well I am off now. Congrats to anyone who finishes this grid. I found it rather tough myself. Happy babbling everyone!
night zoo, enjoy the book
ae 5 please?
or the ad 8?
a + another word for room/study + ending that means inflammation
ae + US spy agency
happy pi day to everyone
thought edema was the word for swelling
I didn't say swelling. I said inflammation. Like in your throat.
ah - ty molly
Or your tonsils or your broncia.
Or bronchia
an 7-8 combo please?
or maybe it isn't a combo -- first 2 an's at any rate
As old as it gets, and plural
oh duh -- was off in the other direction - ty
supper ready to go and 2 more to find
And I passed halfway. See you tomorrow.
bye scrabbs!!
bye scrabs

I give up! 152 words found. Goodnight all
Hello
Hi
Hi again -- I have just updated my profile -- hopefully it will provide a chuckle for those of you who have not already seen something similar. :-) PS - further to the topic I discovered yesterday while watching TV that my husband and I, seeing as how we do not own or use a smart phone, have become modern day luddites.
Gave me a chuckle. I am resistant to carrying my handmedown phone around - like seemingly everyone else in Australia. I am sure they will all end up with stooped spine in old age as they are always looking down at phone. I shan't comment on rudeness answering/using phone when in company.
bye all
nan - love your profile! very original - hilarious

it appears to be an adjective, based on the word form

gummi worms ok - I made a dirt cake recipe with gummi worms, kids loved it. I can't understand sour candy?
if I'm going sour, i like sour patch straws or that genre. it is sour. the gummi worms are sour but sweet/sugar. that's a yuck for me
