Hello
Hi ruby
Hello Bichon
Liz had my name read out in her shul, a custom l didn't know about
I don't think I've been in a shul since a friend's son was bar mitzvah
Many religions have names read as a list of intentions for prayer. It is a nice custom.
when l was a girl, l went but mostly for the youth group. l've been to nephews' bar mitzvahs in London & Miami, but there isn't a shul her
l waas surprised and touched by her gesture
This is a caring group

morning all!
YAY! I am on spring break!!!! *dashes through room scattering choclits willy-nilly* hello EVERYONE!
awesome... i miss spring break!
(((kje))) but you have some excellent hills to climb, with lovely meals afterward... we just have piles of planning to do and papers to grade. LOL but it does feel nice to do those things with feet up and no kids needing attention.
when I taught school, exams were before spring break but grades had to be in by the end of that week (before break) - hellish week... but made for a much better break. Smart principal
feance
sorry
Yes, grades are done and conferences are over (thankfully!); but state tests start two weeks after we return and go for four weeks during which the kids are too exhausted after the test for a couple days to do much learning. So... I am planning poetry, fable-writing, and science lessons for the next couple months. :-)
I think that's spelled faience? ;-)
4 weeks of testing? that is insane.
It wasn't a word... it was attempts at monkeyin anything to fill my last 2 Fs!
but fables and poetry sound fun
It's cloudy and gr4 here, but supposed to be sunny and maybe up to 60 here. What about down your way?
foggy right now, but it should warm up to the 70s later
clue for re 8 please. Hi Stid, long time no see
hello Nancy! Hope you are well.
to tie, button, or snap again - re8
thanks kje
Plodding along, some days better than others. Admire your sticking with teaching. I taught for 7 years but would never be able to do it with the way the world is now.
thanks kje, someone said earlier that it ended in the gerund ending so that is what I was trying...
re9 ends in gerund
I love teaching the third grade - more than I expected to! But it's rough work and not sure how long health will let me stick with it.
if that helps
I must have reread that, already had the nine.
misread
woot found the 11!! my first really long word on Babble :-)
ooh! needed that 9, thanks again!
hi to all and hope you're all enjoying a lovely holiday weekend
well done Natasha
nice, natasha!
stid, I taught early elementary as well. But that was before cell phones and tablets and phone crazy kids.
the good thing about really long words is they tend NOT to be babblets in Scots dialect.
oh yes -- some of my kiddos come to school with watch-phones and I have to have the principals call and tell parents why we don't allow them at school! It's a very different world even from ten years ago when I started back to school for certification.
brb -- time for second breakfast for my boy!
it seems the kids now have the attention span of knats unless they are clued to a game or something on their phones which they check every three minutes to make sure they have not missed what their friends have done or said. sad
so funny how each generation thinks this about the next. Kids haven't changed so much
It is astonishing the rapidity of the change in human behavior since the advent of social media and smartphones. I ride the DC Metro and am the ONLY person gazing out the window and being present in my life. Everyone else is earbudded and "not there."
Kids haven't, kje, but the environment has. And they are very responsive to that - they really struggle to maintain focus and persevere in many things. I also teach in a high-poverty school so there is an added element of not sleeping/eating/being safe in general for a large number of students in the school.
Not sure I agree, kje. I have a 19 year old son who is really outstandingly intelligent - completed 8 AP courses and entered college as a soph. Yet even he refuses to read a long novel. He reads Wikipedia articles.
It is astonishing how few of my students have any core strength, or enough knowledge of their bodies to mimic/mirror gross motor activities.
I have students whose pencil grip is exceedingly poor and who complain when using scissors because they don't use their hands for anything but swiping on tablets or moving mini joysticks on video controllers. :-(
So it's challenging to have them actually work, when developmentally their brains are still ready and willing to draw/color/write and their expectations are for the physical activities to be easy and the action to be fast and the rewards to be instant.
haven't seen that so much here... there are plenty of easily distracted kids, but plenty that do great also. Mixed bag
Wish that were true here -- when most of the kids can and do, they elevate the expectations and determination of the rest.
hopefully, you get some personal fulfillment from teaching and inspr
but we have adapted as well... we have the ability to use more technology in teaching, and more flipped classroom and experiential learning
I love it. :-)
inspiring these students. My admiration goes to you for forging on
they are lucky to have you, stid... they need teachers who love it and are in it with them
Flipped classrooms only work, kje, when there is electricity in a home and internet access and computers, unfortunately. And in the younger grades to do a flipped classroom requires parents who aren't working two and three jobs so they can be there and help the students when they get home. :-( Rural and poor communities lack so much of the resources that urban and wealthier places (like my home district) provide.
I agree, stid... and that is why the way our schools are funded is problematic
fe5/20.....clue please
flipped classrooms are a joke.
In my state, we are FINALLY getting legislative action to correct the serious imbalance in funding (our state constitution requires fully-funded schools but hasn't for decades). But it will take a while for it all to catch up.

Happy Easter, Passover,April Fools Day from a bitterly cold Ireland. Winter this year has lasted 6 solid months. I’m sick and tired of the cold now.
I am enjoying a beautiful sunny day with the front door open to get some fresh air in the house. Wish I could send some warm sunny weather your way.
On the plus side... All offspring are home. Hale, hearty & drinking my expensive bottle of gin.
That is always a plus. Will have all the kids and grandkids together tomorrow for dinner
Happy that you can enjoy the sunshine, wv. Even better that all your loved ones will be with you tomorrow.

Free clue.
Ah! Gapeach..... how lovely to ‘see’ you, my dear. How are you?’
Just getting older...LOL. Don't get out much any more, since I can no longer drive. But I could be worse so I won't complain. Hope you and the kiddos are well.
Who helps you with shopping, peach?
All tickety-boo here Peach. All of us getting older, not necessarily wiser!!! Happy to have them all home for Easter. How are you doing?
I have two close friends...one does the groceries and the other the meds. I miss shopping.
Soodle, last month I read a Colm Toibin book which was set in Ireland.
Much pain but I deal with it....when I can. Just hanging on.
Arthritis, peach?
Of course you must miss your independence Peach. It’s tough
Oh, yes, Scrabbs. Post polio syndrome and two strokes CPO bronchitis and diabetes. Otherwise I'm fine.
Which of Colm Toibin’s books did you read, Scrabbler?
Yes,
Oh, peach. So much to deal with. But you are here with us and I am happy to see you here.
Soodle: Nora Webster
What Scrabbler said!!!
Did you like it, Scrabbs?
Yes Soodle, it is. I was always the one who took care of everyone else. I have trouble asking people to do things for me....guess I'll learn. All prayers and good thoughts are appreciated.
I liked it but didn't love it. I looked at a map to see the towns. I like historical fiction the most, but the story just abruptly ended.
Peach, I am the same way--independent, stoic, self-sufficient.
I have two rescue dogs that depend on me to feed and care for them.....it's good that I can still roll around and care for them. One of my friends is a
Vet and she helps a lot. I made some wonderful memories and they sustain me now.
Those dogs need you, peach.
Oh, Gapeach....through Babble I have ‘met’ many people. I have formed very important friendships, I have been duped by unscrupulous players, I have fallen out with people which I bitterly regret..... but You, Gapeach, will always remain as one of my best Babble Buddies. I wish you nothing but the very best.
Blessings on you
Soodle. And Scrabbs also.
Isn't one supposed to have scruples to call other people unscrupulous players?
Hi Ruru, Dylan, and Chelsea. How is Chelsea doing?
Chelsea is improving.. still has one more procedure to do on her nose and sinuses. she is thriving here and very happy
I'm really proud of what I've been able to do for her
Great to hear. Have you finalized the adoption yet?
yes.. he surrendered her to the rescue organization I was fostering for and I've put in adoption papers and now she's mine and I'm her's. she's the sweetest dog and I'm in love with her
I'm so glad for you, ruru.
What a wonderful story. Win-win.
yeah..it''s great.. I really feel like I'm doing something great and contributing. I think I was meant to save her.
the rescue organization has spent over $12K on her and I've done another $10K... she was very sick when we got her.. but you wouldn't know that now.
How fortunate that $ was available to provide medical care.
how fortunate that I've help raise over $350,000 for the rescue organization over the last 4 years.. that made a difference
they are an incredible... selfless organization.. doing great, great things out here. Kind of like what une's does but for all kinds of animals
People that love animals are special folks.
Ru, it is nice of you, and those with the money to do it, to contribute to such a good cause.
in the terrible fires we had here.. they save hundreds and hundreds of Cats and dogs, over a 150 horses, two herds of sheep, hundreds of chickens, and god knows what else.
they saved that is
Ok. I was offline & just returned. Rururocks :- your post at 5.04 is presumably aimed at me. I'm here now. Online. Would you like to expand on that thread?
sure.. if you're going to do name calling at players be prepared to think about your own behavior is what I'm saying
Donning sack-cloth & ashes. Parading self in front of assembled Babblers beseeching forgivenes for breaching the Sacred Babble rules. Mae Culpa. Mae Culpa.
No penance needed, Soodle.
no penance.. maybe just some therapy :D
We are all flawed. I know I am .
Doctors are exempt from flaws aren't they?.. I know attorneys aren't however
I'm flawed. I yelled at an obnoxious little (unchaperoned) kid in the movie theater this afternoon. She stopped on a dime, though! :)
Nope. We are all imperfect, with limitations.I try to learn from my mistakes.
Well done Scrabbler, for admitting you have flaws. As anybody who knows me will testify, I have no flaws. I'n a bit like Mary Poppins - practically perfect in any way way. Emphasis on 'Practically' ...
:)
Lol Champ!
:-)
I am done with 75 left. I haven't found a word in a long time and I am not going to use the list to search for the rest.
How you doing Soodle?
Just found the fa8...stupid word! Totally get it, Scrabs.
one of my best HS friends was the daughter of a doctor who wrote a book about facing mistakes in medicine. It is hard and much of the profession is set up to avoid just that.
