8:36 am

Hello everybody

8:36 am

bonjour ruby!

8:37 am

HI Ruby

8:37 am

Optimistically, l hired a real gardener to de-jungle my overgrown garden

8:38 am

l've been making do with a couple of hours of help, here and there, but it needed serious work

8:38 am

that is great! You won't be sorry, I am sure

8:39 am

3 guys have been working since 8AM Monday and are on their second truckload of detritus

8:39 am

enabling the grass roots movement

8:39 am

I need a flamethrower, at this point

8:40 am

l figure that since l made it through this winter, l want the garden to be truly splendid next year

8:40 am

good for you Ruby

8:40 am

Mine looks like a pack of Hells Angels lives here - only thing missing is a pile of empty beer cans

8:41 am

They're doing a great job and l've left it to their boss to make de isions and not bother me

8:41 am

its been raining here so much that i could not even cut my grass at this point - it would tear.

8:41 am

Since this is my first garden, l had no idea about howw big tiny shrubs would become

8:41 am

but I am going to have to get at it this week, no matter what - looking like a junk yard out there.

8:43 am

My neighbor whom l haven't seen in a couple of years, came over to complain that pine needles from my big pine trees were landing in her pool

8:43 am

l don't think that's my problem

8:44 am

geez louise, what a precious muffin she is! Does she own a skimmer?

8:44 am

The pine trees were here when we bought the house and they keep me from looking into her house

8:44 am

did she actually expect you to doing something about it?

8:44 am

She's ne of these "fluttery" women, little fake voice, etc

8:45 am

She wanted my guys to go over and clean up the pine needles!

8:45 am

what is WRONG with people?

8:45 am

does this mean you can swim in her pool?

8:46 am

When my husband died and also when l got sick, she never once came over (or even wrote a note!)

I really wanted snog to be in this grid

i believe that snog is accepted as a word, just not in this grid

2:53 pm

"O let me not exist! For non-existence proclaims in organ *****, "To Him we shall return." From Rumi, "When was I less by dying?"

2:54 pm

Of course, this returning might take a while, possibly ae5/10.

2:57 pm

28 left and really tempted to list

3:39 pm

3:47 pm

po 6/21 has a double consonant dead center

3:48 pm

hi carol ty

3:49 pm

Hi all - I sneak in and Babble at work sometimes, mostly a lurker. Glad I could help for a change!

3:52 pm

Hello, Carol :-)

3:52 pm

hi zooz

3:52 pm

Hello, Mlf :-)

4:01 pm

just for the record, my daughter and I call those door stops that you mount to your baseboard that are spring - dongers

4:02 pm

Thanks for letting us know, mool!

4:02 pm

yw

4:03 pm

it's in the board, but not acceptable

4:04 pm

ones

4:04 pm

which is also in the board :)

4:04 pm

lol

4:04 pm

but is legitimate

4:05 pm

OOPS!

4:05 pm

which is not in the board, but is legitimate ;)

4:06 pm

well...20 to go

4:06 pm

not sure I'm gonna get much more of these

4:08 pm

Yeah you will.

4:08 pm

well there's one

4:10 pm

eleven in french

4:11 pm

onze?

4:11 pm

Thank you!

4:11 pm

de nada

4:12 pm

I am down to treize now

4:13 pm

French and Spanish...I am impressed

4:14 pm

know more french than spanish

4:14 pm

mostly just nouns in spanish

4:14 pm

lived in Miami for 8 years, if I'd been more motivated to learn, I probably could have become fluent

4:15 pm

my wife can speak conversationally in either

4:15 pm

I take it there are a lot of spanish residents in Miami then?

4:16 pm

more spanish speakers than english

4:16 pm

Wow did not know that!

4:16 pm

although a good number are of cuban heritage, and they don't like pronouncing their esses in cuban spanish

4:16 pm

so for instance...how are you...como estas comes out as como e-ta

4:17 pm

and their v's almost some like b's

4:17 pm

Just a different dialect then.

4:17 pm

so havana, sounds like habana...and cavallo (horse) sounds more like caballo

4:17 pm

yeah

4:19 pm

it interesting though...certain words you can see are pretty common, or similar between languages...like six, six, sex, seis

4:20 pm

while others are completely different...head, tete, kopf, cabeza

4:21 pm

True I think Iceland or greenland have thirty words for snow lol

4:23 pm

LOL, the Eskimoes here have about 50! Hi zooz and mool :)

4:24 pm

hey kate

4:24 pm

How goes the grid battle

4:25 pm

How many types of snow can one have!

4:25 pm

Hello, Kate :-)

4:25 pm

The battle has been won here.

4:25 pm

Please could I have a clue for re7.

4:25 pm

Better weather today zooz? we had torrential rain last night :(

4:26 pm

Compound word color +loch monster

4:26 pm

there are 2 x RE 7 PMS

4:26 pm

Congratulations zooz!!!

4:27 pm

Nice and sunny here and near the evenig we had a couple of showers. Supposed to be nice again tomorrow.

4:27 pm

well, it's not exactly 50 per se...

4:27 pm

https://tinyurl.com/oot2awv

4:27 pm

The other re 7 is re + plural of not early.

4:27 pm

Are you warm enough? We have cooled considerably.

4:28 pm

Well it is around 16c outside and 22c in my house at the moment so it is okay. i could do with it being about 10c warmer.

4:28 pm

endeath - to kill something or someone

4:29 pm

Thank you Zooz. That was my last one.

4:29 pm

Congrats, PMS!

4:30 pm

How is the weather your end, TK?

4:30 pm

ty mool.. interesting blurb :)

4:32 pm

ground fog still at 1730! The air is pregnant with rain :/ It was a cats and dogs one last night - it came down so hard you couldn't see acreoo the street! Not very warm now - probably about 15 as well. Ineedn't tell you about how damp it is...

4:34 pm

I hope it clears and gets warmer for you soon then.

4:36 pm

Me too.. Victoria Day Weekend is our traditional garden planting time. The nights aren't too cool now, but we need sun and some warmth.. and my yard is about 1/3 under standing water now with all the rain we hve had over the last 3 days. Need wellies to go out in it. (looks like a rice paddy

4:37 pm

Did your book of short stories arrive safely?

4:38 pm

Yes it did thanks! although the first three stories were rubbish. hoping the next one will be better!

4:40 pm

Sorry to hear about your garden being under water. Maybe some sand dug into the ground might make it better at drainage.

4:40 pm

What a shame about the first three zooz; how many stories are there?

4:41 pm

anyone have both o words for the bottom row o? i have one: the on 5. help with other one please

4:42 pm

OK 4/8 & OK 4/9

4:42 pm

Not sure let me check, TK

4:42 pm

oops it was a different o. the ok 4. ty.

4:42 pm

ty zoo

4:42 pm

Yes, the andlord and I are slowly putting it to rights, but it is a long job. He had some weeping tile installed in half the yard last summer (drains out toward the road).. still have to grade and raise the land so it slopes away fromt he house. Slowly amending the soil with peat and sand. There is a lot of clay here, which doesn't help.

4:43 pm

Only 20 :-(

4:43 pm

Thanks for the ok.9 Zooz. Morning everyone

4:43 pm

ty got the other ok. ty

4:43 pm

Hello, Lynxxx!

4:43 pm

that's not too bad zooz; better than ten! Hi lynxxx

4:44 pm

True but my last two short stories books had 100 each.

4:44 pm

would love the last 8: i have sp 8, en 8 and at 8. any other clues? ty

4:45 pm

sorry need stat and clues for last 8. ty.

4:45 pm

HE 8 plural

4:45 pm

Did all the writers go on strike last year zooz - or was it just a bad year for quality writing ...

4:45 pm

uncivilised jperson singular...7

4:46 pm

lol not sure, TK maybe I am just too fussy !

4:46 pm

or maybe non-believer?

4:46 pm

My fave book this year was Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier

4:47 pm

Not every story will be to everyone's liking. Lets hope the people that chose the stories have varied tastes.

4:47 pm

Love the authors name too!

4:47 pm

I loved that one.. read all of them when I was younger. Gothic type writing was my entrance into adult reading.

4:48 pm

Hahaha... it's a cigarette brand name here.. think you have them there as well...

4:48 pm

Love the name but would never smoke it :-)

4:49 pm

:D Who burns writers at the stake anymore?

4:49 pm

LOL

4:51 pm

There is a new Miss Peregrines novel coming out in Oct/Nov time! I have pre ordered it on amazon!

4:52 pm

Miss Peregrines home for perculiar children novels.

4:53 pm

I haven't read any of them yet zooz. Unde4rstand that they are quite engrossing.

4:53 pm

Well they were for me. I loved them!

4:54 pm

I'll have to add them to my list, that is already very long. Don't read nearly as much as I used to.

4:55 pm

that he 8: cant get it. have he 5 and must come from that. but cant find it.

4:56 pm

I have made a habit of reading when I retire for the evening. Snuggled up in bed! I find it relaxes me ready for sleep.

4:56 pm

yes, extend the HE 5...but the 5 is a place, the 7 is a person who doesn't practice *ahem* accepted religions.

4:56 pm

Add chicken/s to the end, Mkg.

4:57 pm

That's where I did most of my reading. I still curse S. King for many a night when I couldn't resist one more chapter..

4:58 pm

lol there is that problem TK but a nice problem at that :-)

4:58 pm

or add a printer's measure?

4:59 pm

he 8: any further clues? ty.

4:59 pm

warmth + chickens for the 8

5:00 pm

lady chickens....

5:00 pm

the ones that lay eggs

5:00 pm

thanks so much. got it. got the 7 and the 8. ty.

5:00 pm

and get stewed when they are old ;)

5:01 pm

yw, mkg.

5:01 pm

As next door seem to clang around a lot too I also have started to play white noise to cancel out there noise. How sad is that!

5:01 pm

Their*

5:02 pm

Are their parties and music now keeping you up at night zooz.. maybe it's time to have a small word with the parents?

5:03 pm

Parties are from Fri/Sun but during the week it is general noise. Parents I am sure are involved.

5:04 pm

Oh, that's unfortunate... I thought it was only when the parents went out that parties took place... you have mentioned slamming doors :(

5:04 pm

the walls in the houses here are so thin you can hear everything so it is not them to blame to a certain extent.

5:04 pm

Oh the bloody slamming doors are the worse, Tk! Drives me up the wall.

5:05 pm

I see zooz. I had the impression you were a bit removed fro the village

5:05 pm

I am a bit removed int he head, TK but not in a village lol

5:06 pm

Hahaha... you crack me up! REmoved in the head is a coping mechanism for idiot neighbours ;)

5:08 pm

Shame at the time I did not have enough money to buy a detached property. But hey ho that is how the cookie crumbles I guess.

5:09 pm

I see..well perhaps one day there will be a bit extra in the budget to do a bit of a reno on the adjoining wall - a bit of extra sound deadening in the wall?

5:11 pm

Nah I think I would rather move to be honest. Although I do love my garden.

5:12 pm

I think the birds would mis me too. After all who else is going to give them lots of bird seed and fatballs to eat!

5:12 pm

well, down to 10

5:12 pm

If you find the right spot, you may be able to transplamt your favourites when you move? Big time and energy investment to just walk away from...

5:12 pm

Fatballs = lard and seed mixed together.

5:12 pm

Good going, Mool!

5:13 pm

still pecking at 26

5:13 pm

When I retire I am going to move abroad to a sunnier place, TK. i will start again.

5:13 pm

I'm more digging in the dirt with a rusty spoon at this point

5:13 pm

or maybe digging in the rock is more apt

5:13 pm

go mool go... welcome back :) ha zooz, I would just call that a suet ball.. but yes, the birds would miss you If you don't go far, they may folliow you ;)

5:13 pm

lol

5:14 pm

I thinnk it will not be long before you both finish!

5:14 pm

I have brought my bird feeders most places...although not New York

5:14 pm

Like Greece/Italy zooz? They are having "weathyer there too...

5:15 pm

go, shirl, go!

5:15 pm

Southern Spain maybe.

5:15 pm

although the raccoons have destroyed and dinged most of mine currently

5:15 pm

How's your Spanish zooz? mool will probably give you some starter lessons.

5:15 pm

8 to go...and 4s are done

5:15 pm

Those raccoons sound like they are a peat.

5:16 pm

no habla espanol

5:16 pm

greedy little fur bandits... still love them though!

5:16 pm

Pest not peat.

5:16 pm

yay mool!

5:16 pm

they normally come in groups of 3 or 4...huge

5:16 pm

they're fun to watch, but brutal on the feeders

5:16 pm

and not particularly scared of people

5:17 pm

Do they bite though?

5:18 pm

I imagine they would if you tried to grab one

5:18 pm

and there is a risk they carry rabies

5:18 pm

Not likely zooz.. they are very enured to humans in most places... and many feed them, they know most of us present no danger to them..just a minor annoyance when they are dining al fresco in our rubbish and we shoo them away...

5:18 pm

Oh well I think I would stay well clear of those th4 if I was living there.

5:19 pm

good idea with wild animals

5:19 pm

okay to observe, but be respectful

5:19 pm

No worries, really zooz. I have raised a few orphans in my day...

5:20 pm

If they are raiding the bins is that why they are wearing masks over their eyes :-)

5:20 pm

have taken a few injured animals to the local refuges from time to time...but otherwise leave them alone

5:21 pm

7 to go...

5:21 pm

what mool said...Toronto is the unofficial raccoon capital of Canada... so used to them I don't even think about them at all... except when the marauders are in the feeders for the bird...

5:23 pm

Starting to flag here so think I will call it a night. it was nice to chat to you, TK & Mool. Happy babbling everyone!

5:23 pm

night zoo

5:23 pm

still bright and shiny here, so have a little bit more time to try and knock off a few more

5:24 pm

the mom used to bring her babies around to my place to snack at the bird feeder...I'd sit there and watch them. the babies got curious about me and started investigating me. Eventuall they started climbing on me... and mother let them!.. One night they came without mama...I found she had been hit by a car... so I continued to raise them on her behalf... because she trusted me with her babies...

5:25 pm

Niters zooz. Wishing for the next story to be a good one. Sleep well.

5:26 pm

Are you doing this without a list mool?

5:26 pm

yes kate, I never use lists

5:26 pm

7 to go

5:26 pm

so what happened TK? to the kits?

5:28 pm

I kept them...but was lucky that I was in Streetsville at the time on a very large piece of propety that backed onto the Credit River and almost surrounded by conservation land... fed them puppy chow soaked in milk then did my best to teach them how to froage as miother did...

5:28 pm

You are a warrior mool! :)

5:28 pm

or a masochist :)

5:29 pm

at 25 and very tempted to list

5:32 pm

warrior/masochist, lol shirl.. mool didn't list, so yu can't either ;)

5:33 pm

shirl can do whatever shirl wants to do...no need to share my misery

5:34 pm

6 to go

5:34 pm

haha...no masochist here.. I list for all but the small grids.. I am a wuss ;)

5:34 pm

each plays the grid the way that works for them...no wussiness implied :)

5:35 pm

i actually got to 25 without tooooo much pain so i feel that i should keep going and going and going

5:36 pm

asking for clues of course doesn't count :D

5:36 pm

True, but I do admit to it... as soon as I see that it is a larger or seemingly unfriendly one, I list after nbs/nbt and halfway...who wants to spend hours and hours n a grid (when you have a shabby memory for odd words..)

5:36 pm

of course not

5:36 pm

:)

5:36 pm

Do you have all the 7, 8 words now?

5:37 pm

no, missing one each of 7 and 8...two 5s and 2 6s also missing

5:37 pm

6 tiles to complete

5:37 pm

Clues are jperfectly valid shirl... and chat can offer some great jpointers.

5:38 pm

and some really bad puns too

5:38 pm

i always scroll back on the chog

5:38 pm

do you want stats for 8s? (many are pl

5:38 pm

yeah, some of the puns are worth scrolling back for ;)

5:39 pm

not for me tx kate

5:39 pm

and where's ruru with the pun fest? we haven't had one in a while -- unless i missed them

5:39 pm

Oh, did I miss a good pun fest? Rats.. I don't usually scroll back

5:39 pm

must have a word with him about that

5:39 pm

for some reason legnose doesn't seem to work

5:39 pm

:D

5:40 pm

wouldn't a hispanic who is not on time be a lateno?

5:41 pm

You'd think so, wouldn't you mool? Silly dictionary ;)

5:41 pm

and those christmas lights than you can throw over bushes would be lednets no?

5:42 pm

and would leonard's wife not be a leoness?

5:42 pm

hmmm.. not sure mool. It seems that you are incorporating LED....not a word.

5:43 pm

well there's been other acronyms that have become words...

5:43 pm

or a lion's wife?

5:43 pm

scuba, fubar, snafu

5:44 pm

laser for that matter

5:44 pm

radar, lidar...

5:44 pm

True, but that is usually after decades of common usage. REmember enable is frozen in time...

5:45 pm

and if we were in the uk, todger would totally work

5:45 pm

case in point: this has been a military word for ages, but maybe only recently more common? "fubar" was not found in the dictionary

5:46 pm

thought it was in TWL98 (aka this enable dictionary), must have been added in the next

5:46 pm

... I'm sure it's too slangy ... which surprisingly is a word

5:46 pm

Ha! the dictionary woukd asccept snafu if it was in the grid. Surprised at that.

5:46 pm

clayey and oilily are both words, if we're going with weird adjectives

5:46 pm

i kept trying the -odge- i'm still missing one of o

5:47 pm

fubar is now acceptable in competitive scrablle, mot sure it's in the family edition

5:47 pm

U can guess which one it is shirl

5:47 pm

I not U

5:47 pm

Scrabble dictioary keeps evolving though.. opurs is static.

5:47 pm

U may be able to guess, though it's pretty odd spelling

5:48 pm

yes, but it was static for some time...TWL98, which is the one this one copied, was the standard for some years

5:48 pm

then the group that oversaw the dictionary changed, and suddenly we got a whole bunch of words added

5:49 pm

you worked in that field mool?

5:49 pm

snodge totally sounds like some british slang

5:50 pm

no, but I have played competitive scrabble for 24 years I think it is now

5:50 pm

a remote cabin for the purpose of snogging?

5:50 pm

ooh, I like that

5:51 pm

and thenst sounds like old english

5:51 pm

My goodness... we'll have to get yu together with Scrabs next itme you come outthis way..you can scrabble your brains out :)

5:52 pm

my brain feels pretty scrabbled already :)

5:52 pm

snudge vb (intr) 1. archaic to be miserly or stingy 2. dialect to lie quietly and snugly you aren't far off mool...

5:53 pm
