24 to go, i'm outta here
who's still around and have you watched 'Rosa' episode of doctor who?
Yes - a cute twist. Loving the new Doctor, she's great
'cute'? i was sobbing
not that i'm offended by you calling it cute, just curious
I was wondering how they were going to be 'there' without changing a real event. ZPerhaps I should have said cute writing
or better - clever writing
yeah
and some other clever things too
I am loving the whole new feel of it all (not just this episode)
did you notice that one shot in the 1942 bus incident where the bus driver stood up and the camera was behind him, and you saw her past him but you could see he had a holster with a gun? i thought that was a brilliant subtle-but-vivid way to convey the serious threat
but yeah i'm loving her as the doctor, liking the theme being a little more throwback to the original music, liking many things.
I didn't notice but am recording the episodes so I'll go back and look - I tend to miss a lot on first view
yeah, the episodes can be so dense
that you really have to see it more than once
i've always felt that way, not just this season
unrelated: why does my brain think that there is a babblet 'craesi' or something close to that?
crasis
hmm, maybe
good morning all. Phantom: junior
Hi Sprite
hiya lyn xxx :) Long time no see. How have you been?
hey spritey
morning for you, and i'm about to go to sleep! but nice to see you :)
Older but otherwise well. How is everyone in your neck of the woods
*hugs hursh* How are you today?
sweet dreams, hursh :)
older and wiser, lyn! We are good. Daughter in her final year of university. Son in his first, in Edinburgh. My love and I in the process of selling our house and downsizing to a tiny house. That we still have to build, so long term plans.
Gosh - thats all such a change. How tiny is tiny - and where? Is your husband building it?
tiny will be about the size of a trailer. The where is still in progress, we have a couple of options but no definitive okay yet. And yes, my husband will be doing most of the building.
That's very cool, sprite! I love the tiny house "movement...
trailer to an Australian would mean a footprint of about 2 metres by 2 metres
thanks blue! It has been our dream for a long time, to live a simple life, close to nature, nothing more than what we really need. And not all the complications of mortgage etc.
cooee and g'day from me. {{{{spritey}}} {{lyn}} {{blue}}
that is smaller than we think, lyn. We are thinking 2,5m by 7m.
hi Rose
*hugs rose* Good evening, my dearest friend. How was your day? And how are you feeling?
trailer to a South African is what you hitch behind your car to carry extra stuff that does not fit in the boot
I must go, Patch is getting anxious about his walk
same here Ursh - and hi
lol! Here, it is the thing you can hitch behind a truck. Flatbed trailer.
spritey but your area then is 17.5 sq m whereas lynxxx would be 36
I think trailer to an American is what we call a caravan or a park home - bigger version of a caravan
bye lyn, have a lovely walk. *hug*
weepy today. joints aching +++. have taken endone. day has been very quiet. and you dearest? how was your night? how are you with that wretched flu??
i think there are multiple things americans call trailer, in various sizes.
oh wait sorry i somehow thought lynxxx said 6 x 6 not 2 x 2
haha
sprite, you call it a trailer. we call it a mobile home or a caravan.
all the different measement systems got me lost, lol. Well, tiny house it is, and I will let you all know what exactly it will be once we have decided :D
the US just doesn't use the word caravan much
and when we do it's to talk about like, a historical thing of people walking/riding beast/wagons in a long group, like a Gypsy caravan or something
or the Dodge minivan...
*hugs rose extra* Sweetie, good for you that you took the endone. Pain is draining. Take it very easy, ya hear? I am okay. Flu is raging, coughing my ass off and spending half the day on the toilet. But cleaning and prettying up the house in the meantime, so that we will be ready for the first prospective buyers tomorrow.
i have GOT to get offline, ack, ttfn!
oh yes, a caravan of camels :D
bfn, hursh, *hug*
oh, nice an7!
Sprite I have read that one should put flour in the oven before prospective buyers come - makes the house smell like baking bread - homely appeal :)
neat trick urshy.
yeah I heard that too, or bake an applepie. Our realtor said not to bother, people know that trick already. Just make the house smell clean and pleasant.
your house always smelled clean and pleasant, sprite.
awwww thanks darling!
I am not even really nervous, can you believe it? Just a bit tingly. we have decided I will go with Rob to his work, with Terra, tomorrow. And friday afternoon we will go to the canoe club where the container is now, and get the thing more organised.
good on you sprite. i am so proud of you. you are coping so well.
all thanks to Noud, I think. That man has made all the difference in that silly head of mine.
and honey? please don't do what i did... i accepted the first offer made... and it was no where near what the house was worth. you and Rob have to be very strong...and not show any signs of anxiousness.
oh, we are not even present. The buyers will put their offer to the realtor, not to us. I think we will wait out the appointments made for viewing the house. Once they are over with, we will see what offers (if any) are made... and if there is one that offers us what we need, I think we will accept.
have you checked what properties like yours are selling for?
I have been thinking about exactly that this morning, for real. Was thinking, yeah, we could go for the big bucks. Or we could focus on our needs, keep it simple, not taking more than we need... which is how we want to live our lives.
yeah. Prices are crazy, rose. People go into bidding wars over hovels. We will see...
i know honey, but having that little extra behind you is so comforting.
true. I think we will ask our realtor to advice us anyway. If he thinks holding out longer will not give us a lot of extra, we might accept. We will try to be wise :D
just don't let the buyer fool you.
i thought my realtor, who was a long time acquaintance of mine, had my best interests at heart.. turned out that he didn't.
that was one reason I (rather rudely) refused when Rob said we could be our own realtor and save some money that way. I am NOT gonna do something like this by myself. Not only because I think money issues are scary, but because we do not have the first inkling of knowledge about the whole process.
aw rose, that is bitter :( What an ass.
Smart move, Sprite! Selling a house (your own home!) is so difficult in so many ways. I hope you get good offers after the first showings.
thanks Kam :) *hugs*. How are you doing, dear one? And how is Michael?
whoot !!! {{{{kam}}}}
Michael seems to be doing very well, but the weather changes are hitting both of us. And it's birthday week for both of us - I hate this week! His present is already hanging on the wall (rather crookedly - he fell in love with a photo, so I got it for him), but the day after my b-day, he asks what he can get me. UGH!!! I've been throwing huge hints - I want a new LeCruset pot - I've even shown him how awful the current one is worn three times! Duh...sometimes they don't get the hint, lol! I told him...he says "but that's an 'everyday' thing"
awwww that is cute... he wants you to have something special, something personal. But yeah, I hear ya. Hinting often does not reach the mark with our loved ones.
So, you are fighting a flu? I hope it's not serious.
and belated happy birthday, dear one... *hugs* and kisses and as a present, a huge store of energy.
lolll... kam... the time my father bought my mother a new iron for her birthday, he had to learn to duck fast... she threw it at him.
darn flu ruined my date with dfcm. We were gonna do a babble meet, but I had to cancel.
Haha, Rose! I can imagine if she didn't want it that she was furious!
~~~~~ HAPPY BIRTHDAY ~~~~~~ DEAREST kAM
good for her, lol. An iron... now that is horrible.
Oh darn, Sprite, that sucks.
Thanks!
kam, she didn't want it.... she needed it....
now me..... *looking at Don*.... i love fresh flowers... every time.
afaiac, household necessities are no birthday presents. I'd rather get a single rose than an expensive household appliance. From my beloved, that is.
Well, a present that involves ironing men's shirts...ugh! I have a broken iron somewhere....
snap, rose :)
kam... use it for a door stop... loll
we gave away our iron and board. We never use it. Downsizing... so away it goes.
lol
I didn't even get flowers this year. Usually I do, and I'm totally happy with them. He wasn't thinking about dates, and had the chance to go do something special for himself - he now has a nice buffalo hide drum he built himself. I was a little ticked off, but I don't think he realized the drum workshop was on my bday when he signed up.
still, he definitely needs to make it up to you, Kam. He may not have realised, but it is still a bit hurtful.
i know, i know... ironing is so passe. but it gives me some quiet time, and allows me to check for buttons, tears, loose threads.
I do not buy clothes that need ironing, tbh. I hate the job.
Heck, I check all that before things go in the washer...he needs new shirts
The only time we use an iron is if we are sewing something
lol, I always tell him to toss the worn-out stuff before washing. Once I have washed it, he has to wear it once more. :)
He won't toss 'em. I stick dead tshirts in the rag bag after washing. He's losing a couple next round, they are too dead to wear! But, I'm a week behind on laundry right now...
getting sick doesn't speed up chores...I hope you're coping ok with all the house stress, Sprite
lol, definition of one of the ac7s: 'the state of mind in which someone acts against their better judgement through weakness of will.' Sounds about my normal state of mind.
not really coping with the laundry, Kam, we have decided that we will put the dirty laundry in the car on the viewing days. I need another 4 to 5 days to get it all clean, folded and in the closets.
today, it is all about prettying things up. After babble, I am gonna get some fresh flowers. Will air the house. And do a general checkup and final touches allover the place.
yay for you dearest.
thanks rose. Your support means so much to me. The support of y'all. I mean.
don'tchaknow.... i am always with you honey. underneath, beside, behind and in front... ALWAYS
It's not easy trying to keep the house in showable condition when you actually LIVE there..
so very trye
true*
I know, rose. I truly know and I cannot begin to tell you how much that means. And how much it helps.
Well, I've got to get to bed early tonight...good luck and feel better!
sleep well and long, Kam. *hugs*
Night, all! *Hugs*!
sweetest of dreams dear kam... and kind regards to Michael
fireflies. Gotta go, wishing you all a blessed day and a peaceful night. Rose, my dearest friend... *hugs* and kisses and gentle healing vibes. Luvsya.
Hiya Haz....how are you...good to see you!
Hello, Flask. I'm well - finally accepting that autumn is here and enjoying the changing colours of the leaves.
How are you doing?
Oh the colours are wonderful....am good thanks!
It's been quite dry so the leaves aren't slippery yet. Temperatures are due to fall at the weekend.
So I hear....mind you, we've had a long spell of warm weather...suppose we can't really complain.....
No, it's been great. August was the exception but we have been very fortunate.
I got my boiler serviced yesterday, so am happy!
The man who does the boiler is a great source of local information. It's like having an annual round up of local news when he comes in for a cup of tea.
Oh how fab!.....I just love characters like him.....the guy who comes to service my overhead hoist is a wee bit like that....we always have a very interesting conversation!
Yes, it's always good to hear from people who are in contact with the public, lots of funny stories.
I know...they can be real treasures!
Mind and put your clocks back at the weekend....
This particular man has been trying to retire for years and is cutting back a bit. I'm apparently on the list of customers who give him no hassle.
This year has gone so fast, its almost scary..
Oh, I know. Darker nights ahead, unfortunately.
may I please have a clue for ac7
Oh no....my man I was talking about is the very same....he is 75.....and cherry picks his wee jobs!
ac7 ( the first one), ends in the letters of a continent, and the second one is ac plus dried grape minus a vowel.
thanks Haz
You're welcome, flosey.
Hello everyone
Hello, car.
Hi car...
good morning everyone
Hi
Hello, cybernan.
ty haz
You're welcome, mixi.
ca9 - birth by surgery
lots of nice clues in the chat -- thanks everyone
Haz...I can't get it to fit!
Flask, if you've got the Roman emperor, add three letters.
Last three letters of James D*** , moody actor.
Oh dear....am anumpty....got it thanks!
OR (even better for a Scot, Mr Connery, last three letters of his first name
scots john - change first vowel
Good, glad you've got it.
can I be cheeky and ask for de8/9 please?
de9 - sucks the air out of something (like a lawn).
I suppose it's the opposite of spiking a lawn in the spring (ae6 and ae7)
how do you suck air out of grass? no idea
ty haz -- silly word
Glad you got it.
me too Haz, thanks!
Good, glad the clues worked for you, Flask.
woot! I missed most of Skate america... will have to see what I can find on-line.
It's all on YouTube
I'll be settling in to sitr down and have a nice, long viewing session :)
did you catch it already?
The Japanese women were great. Nathan Chen was, of course, outstanding. He is a firt year student at ale
Yes, it was on a network show and the Olympic Channel
I like Chen :) High hopes for him! I like some of the new rule changes - about scoring especially. not sure I like the reduction in time for the free for men and pairs.
Don't understand that at all
I just did a quick read - don't really know why they did that.. they took the pairs side by side spin out because of it, I think.. or the pairs spin, not sure which.
Unfortunate.
One of those things, I guess... nothing is written in stone - they may go back if they find it's not working well. Would be a shame if programs are too rushed because of it.
Any stats or clues before I pop out?
HAGD Kate
You too bichon :)
