sigh
another day, another grid
so hard to care about life
oh dear Hurshy - whats up ?
same things that are always up
pretty much every decision i've made since senior year of high school has been wrong
i don't believe i will ever find lasting happiness
ne7
za6, zo6
perhaps you have been looking in the wrong places to find your lasting happiness - maybe go for something out of your comfort zone - so cliche - but true
hurshy, don't know what you are going thru, but never look for happiness - it will find you when you are good and ready
i've looked in a variety of places.
so what do you do in all the miserable years in the meantime, grannie, to not kill yourself?
would you believe I am the happiest I have been for nearly 3 years - why? cos I am on my own...don't worry I have good friends etc, but these days I prefer to be on my own after nursing hubby thru his strokes for all those years (He passed 12 mths last Tues) And now I can do what I want, when I want and am happy
happy for you, grannie
hurshy, do you have hobbies? If so join FB groups that are related. I do diamond painting and have found cyber friends thru these groups
hurshy, do f5-18.
za 6/48 A nice Yiddish word for a somewhat fat well-rounded person
zo 6 is a less-acceptable spellling
thanks for those ARB
Hi all and thanks ARB
When I was growing up, a za6 girl was considered healthy. Times have changed!
Never heard the zo version before.
I figure there are 3 things to do in this world. 1. Take care of business. This is getting to work, doing the laundry, paying the bills, etc. 2. Work towards the future. So, writing a resume, taking a class, etc. 3. Enjoy the journey. I would score each day. most days I manage to take care of business. If I also do something tofurther my goals, yay, that's a two. And if I do something fun, yay, that's a three. If I come home from work and just want to fall into bed, I might phone a sister or friend to add a point to my to my day. It got me through some tough times.
Lizlin, not my Yiddish accent either. Must be Czech or Hungarian
I guess so - or perhaps just enable!

One of the most profound Buddhist philosophies that changed my life in a huge way is the idea that the source of all unhappiness and despair can be summed up in one word and that word is "desire".... when one examines their sadness and discontent - sure enough, at the very nucleus of the pain is a desire of some sort..... For example, consider the following- How can he or she be so insensitive? - a desire that the person in question react in the way we think that we would have reacted. We could not afford gifts this year. - a desire that more money was available for discretionary spending. My child is very ill. - a desire for a more favourable prognosis and longevity for a loved one. My daughter was caught cheating on an exam. - a desire that our children realize that decisions they make now may have long term repercussions. Finally, there is the universal question - Why and how could this have happened? - a desire for answers to questions that may not have answers which would give closure. The key to surmounting the pain is to accept the desire for what it is - a wish that, for whatever reason, cannot be fulfilled at the present moment.... and then to try to move away from the desire.... let it go.... try to work at becoming less attached to the desire.... to view it more calmly and less emotionally.... In the beginning, this is extremely hard to do but I promise that if you work at it, your pain WILL lessen much sooner.
anybody have the top O?
oo 6/30
One thing I have gained from Babble - a great improvement in my Hebrew and Yiddish!
!!!!
Thanks to you, ARB, Liz and so many others. And come time for festivals, even Fridays each week, I'm made to salivate at descriptions of special foods. And all I can return the favour with is "G'day, Mate" and Vegemite!
th8
and ONYA|
G'day mate and vegemite is fine by me!
...and the best of all : "Aussie! Aussie! Aussie! Oy! Oy! Oy!"
Of course! I knew that before I moved to Aus :)
ty jess
I have learned a LOT from a lot of different Babblers, and some of that was even language.
😂
dofith, sorry but its OI, OI, OI, but I knew what you meant...lol
Liz, it's a wonder it wasn't enough to change your mind about emigrating! As if the heat and creepie crawlies weren't enough!
oy oy oy is the Yiddish spelling!
LOL ARB
Ah well! I could certainly do without the legless crawlies but I do prefer living here to London.
Oy oy oy describes this grid pretty well.
Thanks, diz - thought it looked wrong! See, ARB - I told you I was becoming fluent in Yiddish!
are you like me, liz, don't even like to say the word for those creatures? if so i'm amazed you can live in oz
Well, I'm glad for that, Liz. As for me, I'd trafe with anyone who live in a cool, damp climate with no sharks.
aaah the snakes, we have the most deadliest on the planet...been on the planet nearly 65 yrs and the best I have encountered was a blue tongue lizard
No - I can say the word.
I'd even trade...
i call them BCs - bad creatures
We've had a green tree snake and a carpet python in our garden - neither venomous but I don't really care. I just retreated inside pretty quickly.
They definitely are BCs
You'd love it hear, hurshy - mozzies and flies, huge roaches, snakes, sharks - and too many P.M's!
BBL. Have a good day / evening everyone.
i would NOT love it. NZ, maybe.
Actually, you guys get through a few of those as well!
i'm really in the US
our congress is far worse than a parliament
You'd even love it here. My spelling has gone to pot - better quit. 'Bye all. Oi! Oi! Oi!
ro8
Oh, hurshy - I got it wrong. Sorry. And I definitely will not enter a political discussion. Much as I want us to become a republic, I don't think I want the US system. Anyway, hurshy, I hope chatting is lifting your despair, even for a few minutes. 'aBye now x
good morning all
wow, so close to a gerund grid
my poor girl. how is the ankle feeling? have you adequate pain relief? please let me know exactly when the surgery is. xoxoxox
my dear friend, no worries. I emailed you with the pain regiment, it is under control. It hurts but not unbearably.
monday I am to go to the hospital again to check the swelling. After that, to the surgeon and then we will hear more.
ugh... that bone ache is soooo ugly.
it is. And will be for some time to come, since they are gonna repair it with all kinds of metal :(
been there, done that, got the t-shirt, not going back... mwah i weep for you....it is so nasty. how did you do it? or is that asking for TMI?
I went to our neighbours, the bird rescue facility. To say hi and introduce myself, and also to ask if they would like me to come help once a week or so. I was just going to get the tour, when we left the room and I missed a step. It is an odd little downstep, three steps and the last one is slightly deeper and onto an uneven floor with a big wet doormat on it (for desinfecting purposes). Once on the floor, I saw that my foot was literally pointing the wrong way. Thought it was just my shoe, but no, it was the whole foot, alas.
oh dear. you don't do things by halves do you? such a thorough person..
roflol, that is exactly what I told the ambulance guy. Oh rose, they gave me ketamine. You wouldn't believe the trip I went on. Gosh I hate that stuff. It was scary.
lol.... yeah ketamine is good for that. but did it help with the pain?
I would really like lickety to appear about now...9 words to go but few clues
they gave me so much, I was out of it for a while. That is when they put my foot back in more or less the right direction. Doc said it also causes memory loss for a little while, I may never remember the pain of that moment. Fine with me, lol.
if he can, he will, anike :) He is always very helpful that way.
I know Sprite. Just wishing
poor you! i wish i had been there to hold your hand. how was Rob about the whole thing?
nothing wrong with wishing :)
rob was at work, came to me right away and helped me make it through. went home to see to terra and get me some stuff, we thought I would have to stay at the hospital.
but in the end, I was allowed to go home while waiting for the surgery. Yay!
Hi and hugs, you 2. Sounds awful, Sprite. Wish you a speedy recovery.
{{{{{lizgirl}}}}}}} how are you both, honey?
*hugs Liz* Thanks, dear one.
We’re fine. Things don’t change here 😊
when things are good, no change is needed :) I always enjoy your good fortune.
Yes, we’re very lucky.
and you know how to be content with what you have. That is a talent and a precursor for happiness for sure.
great, lizgirl. i was watching the new program with Barrie Humphries as the voice over. they had some footage of the white whale, and were saying that there are quite a few white calves being born.
Migaloo...that's his name.
Anyone have all the 8's. I have the ro and th
That’s awesome. We don’t go whale watching any more. Decided it was time to quit. Our good decision really because half way thru last winter, the company disappeared.
what a shame. about the company i mean. you did have a long run at whale watching though.
Yes, we must have gone out well over 100 times. It was amazing but it was time to quit. A mutual decision.

The Polish words elude me every time. : D
bvack. l've been in and out of weird sleep all morning - half-drealing, maybe hallucinating, with Strange small dreams --realistiuc but with many dead people (parents) and tv & movie stars.
Sounds like my night too
Sounds like many of us had bad nights.
l never remember them, but they Don't dusturb me, just making me feel like Alice in Wonderland
Going crazy?
no, I have dreams like that
I think everyone has the odd dream now and again.
lt makes me happy when my parent are in them.
same here
My parents are in my dreams a lot. I think it is your subconscious's way of keeping them with you.
You sound like a bunch of coolly rational people and l truly appreciate being ablt to be honest
Dreams are not subject to the same logic we interpret with in real life.
Although l have some close and intimate friends here, all communication is in French.
Self-limiting for me
One of the reasons I would not like living in another country is that I wouldn't feel like me having to speak another language all the time.
I picture Sprite as Alice when she grows bigger than anything around her
obviously you arent British Molly. Their attitude is speak loud enough and those pesky foreigners will understand you!!
That's true Molly, but it was very nice coming here and not having emotional baggage with new friends. But l keep my ittle Robert's dictiinary at hand when l read a dead end.
I have heard people do that and it makes me laugh. As if speaking LOUDER will make someone who doesn't speak your language understand.
reach*
l use a lot of pantomime, even with close friends
*Bets Ruby is great at Charades*
numberone, especially after a couple of tequula shots, just not here.
The dogs are bi-lingual
Aw, how nice they can bark in English and French : D
Ruby, I'd love to have a tequila shot with you. =)
We are very quiet here
yes yes, bzzn
*Would love to be a fly on the wall as Ruby and Bea slam tequila shots
Last time I drank tequila, I was dancing on the table...<blush>
Hey, don't blush. Table dancing is a good strength to have.
That was years ago.
Now, I must head out to do some volunteer work...Ruby, you are loved and cherished here in Babbleland. Big Hugs!
An old friend from,Miami comes here fropm time to time and Always brings a premium tequila, like Herradura which is not available here.
Old friends who show up with premium tequila are good to have.
Thank you bzzn; you Always, cheer me
I Don't thibk i've ever danced on a table, but probably wouldn't remember
if i had
There are some weird ass words in this grid

hi nan
th7...looks like some medication and uses the high point tile...maybe for the thyroid?
could you clue it in a different way, ls
th...2 vowels, cons, Mr. Gore
oops...not Gore
it starts with right T and uses that bottom right corner letters
according to our dictionary it is spelled wrong...it has to do with chemistry
Sorry not much help
ty phae, got it
yw
Happy Valentines Day!
not synthroid and followed the clues, but no luck
it's used in chemistry as a reagent but our spelling adds a vowel on the end
saw that, but figure the vowels have to be io or oo and neither of those are working
th + two diff vowels + 6-point tile + rhymes with latin name of the sun
HAGD!
try one diff vowel for the 2nd vowel
ia nan
thought it ended with gore?
got it - ty
woot!
no...I was mistaken about that. Thought I corrected myself...sorry
nope, doesn't end with gore
probably didn't see the corrections phae

Ro6/24?
thanks Chris
ro 6 - a mangy creature. Man's nickname and wild blue ***der
Any sewers around? I have a Brothers sewing machine and wondering how long a needle should last before being replaced?
Change the needle after three hours of sewing.
?? Seriously? Wow, that seems like such a short time frame. I've used the current needle (it came with the machine) for ...probably ... 40 hours in the past 2 years. Yikes! I will go change it now. Thanks, BzznBea!
I change mine all the time. Sewing machines like good needles.
it depends on the type of fabric you are sewing on. Needles last longer when sewing cotton. Denim shortens the needle life. If you use pins they don't last as long - they nick the pins and get dings that pull on the fabric
Thanks, Bea. Just trying to take in some pants and tops since I've lost some weight, before going on a cruise at the end of the month. And thanks for the tips, chrisk :)
Well you are supposed to pull the pins before sewing over them. =) Tension doesn't like sewing over pins.
I know - but most sewers I know don't pull the pins
I did not know that. I bought the machine to hem 150 yards of sheer fabric for wall panels for an event, and since then just occasionally for mending. I will now pull pins! Thank you so much, both of you.
I'm on my sewing machine all the time. I take special care of Janie.
and that's fireworks for me
Congrats, chrisk! I'll bbl - have a needle to replace.
help with ro8 pls. hi all
ro + number + number
ty Molly
back again - ty molly
re6? please...
ends with mesh thingie you put on to keep your hair in place
TY...embarrased I had to ask for that one...running short on patience today...
yw -- probably will too at the rate I'm going
Bea? I have now realized I need to go buy a new needle. In the manual, it doesn't specify a type other than "use sewing machine needles for home use." It does, however, specify a specific type of bobbin if I want to buy some extra. Do you know if the Brothers sewing machines all use the same type of needle that I could probably find at a fabric store?
You can buy Schmetz needles. They fit all machine and are sold in big box stores.
Just make sure you get the size and type you need for the fabric you are sewing on.
Thank you so much. When I was young, my mom and grandmother were both seamstresses (think suits, gowns, etc), but of course I wasn't interested then. Mom and grandma both passed away in my 20's, and now in my 60's I have a sewing machine and wish they were here to teach me. Fortunately, our babble community has experienced players who are willing to share their knowledge. Thanks!!
You are welcome. =)
most home sewing machines use the same type of needle - but buy good quality ones. Usually you buy a size for whatever fabric you are using. #14 is the standard size for cottons. You will want #16 or 18 for denim and heavyweight fabrics and #10 or #8 for fine and sheer fabrics. Always use ballpoint for knits and sharps for everything else. Also, the finer or tighter weave (thinking of silk or peau de soie here) you need to change the needle fairly often.
* I also use Schmetz brand
Taking notes, nan -- thank you. I am going to be working with lightweight polyesters and chiffon.
chiffon especially requires a really sharp nick free needle - and a lighter weight thread if you can find it in the colour you need.
all this talk of sewing reminds me that I need to get my serger into the shop for servicing.
ooh, thread ... I hadn't thought about that, but it makes sense. I will get some lightweight black too. I watched a youtube video on how to take in the sheath dress and the evening chiffon palazzo pants. Thanks again you two!
go 8 please?
If you are using pins instead of basting, use silk pins on the fabrics you have described. They are the long thin straight pins that are noticably thinner than the regular ones.
I'm adding those to my growing list of supplies. I'm also laughing ruefully now, realizing just WHY those 150 yards of chiffon wall coverings turned out so badly. (We were able to use them for the event, but the hanging portion was 15' from the floor, so it was hard for people to see how badly they looked.)
go & cute alien (movie) & strike (as in a blow) & vwl
ty lynxxx
good luck ch1212 -- general rule of thumb is the finer the fabric, the finer the needle. Just remember that with the really fine needles, you can't put much tension on the fabric as you are feeding it through.
Aahhh, thank you for the tips! I'll bbl - excited to go to the store now. :)
th7? put me out of my misery, please...
I got it...Thank you!
Until tomorrow...bzz...
bye Bzzz

The 2 z 6 words are German/Yiddish for plump
no idea, molly
They end with the first three of Winnie The Pooh's striped friend
knowing words like that is a bit of a stretch for a scottish prebyterian :D
The th8 is a 4 letter short for for President Roosevelt + the last four of what comes before The Ecstasy
this prebyterian went to google and googled definition given by molly
ty for the th -- still working on the z's
sorry see I made a typo :)
