DST has started here. Am glad it will be one of the final times... in 2021 it will be over and done with changing clocks every 6 months. Praise be.
Hi all and hugs Sprite.
Wow! I couldn't disagree more! I wish we had DST here. I hate that it's never light much after 7 pm here!
*hugs Liz* Hello dear one! I hope you and your beloved are doing well, though no doubt busy.
There is DST in other parts of Aus - in fact in Lickety's area the clocks change this coming weekend.
Yes we're pretty busy.
it takes weeks for my system to adapt to another rhythm. I am physically ill for about 10 days in Spring. So it is not for me.
I understand that but still - what I'd give for more daylight hours!
must be confusing, to have different rules all over Australia. You have a number of timezones even without it, I believe.
Yes 3 or 4 time zones, i think and then a couple of states, like where I am, where we don't change our clocks and so we get out of kilter with everyone. So right now, it's after 5pm where Rose is, but after 4 here but on Sunday our times will be the same!
I guess it is the price you pay for your slice of paradise... no long evenings.
There's one state - south Australia, which is 30 minutes different from its neighbouring states.
lol, it is as confusing as Europe, but then in one country!
I put up with it but love being in Europe for long summer evenings but don't miss those days of driving to and from work in the dark.
I hear ya. I like the long evenings as well, though they are long enough without changing clocks for me. Lots of dark days here though, the climate is not too great
So, hopefully your cast comes off today.
That'll make such a big difference for you.
yes! A few hours left... 11 am I will be in the hospital. Fingers crossed!
Will be thinking of you.
thank you!
Just found Diz's si 5/22. Not a word I knew before bot her count helped.
I don't have it yet, but am looking

ty Alloy

cu8 is a liquor and canned cocktail distributor in California. I guess the non-drinkers would be unaware of that. It takes it's name from the nautical term.

i have am8 and cu 8 stats on the last 8?
un 8/50
thank you got it
... any time
good morning, everyone :)
good morning nan
gm Nan!
... hello nan
... hello nan
Hey Nan :-)
nice sunny morning here - makes me think spring has arrived - hope that is true for all, such a good feeling
I'm in the Bay Area for a week. Was really nice over the weekend. Now it's showery
showers aren't all bad -- we've had a couple of grass fires in the area - already things are drying out. People who toss out live cigarettes and glass bottles should be locked up and the key thrown away
or better still -- pressed into fire fighting service
i agree nan.. for smokers the world is their ashtray sometimes
... was bright and sunny here yesterday but they forgot to turn the heat on a bit below freezing ... ... today ... it's described as partly cloudy ... but at least it's a bit warmer .... maybe tomorrow
is it me or is this difficult? -- don't know where the next 48 words are coming from!
... didn't find it particularly difficult ... even got two of the 8's ... but it's always a simple matter of did they put in the words which you recognize easily today and then do you recognize them ... or did they put them all in from right to left and upwards and twisting
might somebody clue the un8 please?
there are only two ge 6/26
6/27
un 8 ... to have ones canvas camping shelter stolen
untent
lol
oops
you rock, ty dos!!
I was going in the wrong direction
... there's only one ge6/27
there are only two ge 6/27 the other ones are made up
ge 6/27 4/6 5/14 5/14 4/6
if you know the word you would get my joke
not if you believe trans folks, doseffing :-)
... sorry ... I get it now ...
lol
trans is not a third ge 6/27
correct. but neither is it one of the other two
... it all depends upon what you mean by ge6/27 ... physically there are two ... psychologically there are at least four
four? what?
ge6/27
no i mean what are the other two?
... m ... f .... m-f .... f-m .... bi ... varying ....
the varying is for the man bun types ?
... the difficulty seems to arise from the difference in timing during gestation of the genetic initiation of the physical gender systems ... and a somewhat earlier flooding of the system with sex hormones ... if a nine weeks you get flooded with testosterone or estrogen but physically at thirteen weeks you physcially become male or female opposite to what the hormones indicated then you can get this "confusion" (?) as to gender and a difference in physcoloogical and physical expressions of gender
and even chromosomally there are more than 2, though the percentage is very low for chimeric or intersex people
doesnt change the reality that there are only two, you can be a boy but be feminine, but you are still a boy
intersex isnt a third one, its a birth defect. Humans have two arms, there are people born with one ore three, that doesnt mean humans dont have a set number of arms.
or
... sure it does ... all you have to do is decide on a definition of gender ... if gender is only physical then you're correct ... but if you define it as a state of mind then you have real problems with only "two" genders
hang on tight to your definition of normal, benji. It won't hurt anybody who doesn't fit it
well not really, identifying as something in your mind doesnt change reality
is that sarcasm i hear?
... unfortunately ... it does cause problems ... because people start saying boys behave in one way and girls behave in another and if you don't behave in that way there's something wrong with you ...
im not saying you cant believe you are something, there are people who believe they are animals on the inside, its called otherkin, im ok with someone identfying themselves how they want, but when they demand that I call them something that I believe to be biologically incorrect, thats when the problem starts
nobody says that, its just generally men and women are biologically predetermined to behave certtain ways
denying another person's reality doesn't change it. people's genders are more complex than wiener/not-wiener. trans folk have been with us throughout history and recognized to one degree or another by different cultures. the Abrahamic faiths have always bred repressive, violent cultures that confine gender roles through force. Medical and sociological evidence doesn't support simplistic binary declarations.
.... sorry ... that is not correct ... or not correct enough ... there is too much of a social influence into behavior patterns to say it's biologically predetermined ...
i meant generally
of course humans are smart enough to recognizes instincts and can act against them, but there is a reason that 99.97% of people identify as what gender their genitals match, there is a reason boys and girls inherently act differently.
... when I'm a teen I listened to adults saying that girls can't play hockey because they'll get cut and scarred and that shouldn't happen to girls ,,, but no one would say that boys shouldn't be cut and scarred and loses their teeth ...
apparently girls still can't play hockey -- at least they can't have a national league
... oh well ... must be off ... luck to all who continue
May I interject? I have a friend who doesn't feel like his given birth name of Donald, and thinks he should have been named Trevor. He refuses to answer to any name but Trevor. Now, I know his birth name is Donald, but out of courtesy I call him by his preferred name. It's a matter of simple respect. By the same token, I have a friend who has had plastic surgery to look more like the woman she wants to see in the mirror. The truth of course, is that she wasn't born that way. But out of simple courtesy for her choices (and her preference that I not refer to her birth nose) I don't correct her. If someone prefers to be referred to as he or she or they, I think it's courteous to respect their wishes.
thats wrong, but it does stem from the fact that we are a sexually dimorphic species, where men on average are stronger than women. not always just in general. k bye'
of course if you respect the person, i may disagree but if my friend wanted to be called whatever i would call them that, but random strangers do not get to demand or pass legislation restricting my free speech for the sake of feelings
I think it's about equal rights for all people Benji isn't it?
"random strangers do not get to demand or pass legislation" Doesn't that pretty much describe the entire Congress? lol
of course, everyone deserves equal rights, but nobody deserves extra rights, like laws that make it illegal to 'misgender' someone
Agreed, ruru. In a perfect world, every one would behave respectfully. But alas, some people need legislation to treat others decently.
legislation restricting free speech
A UK journalist is now under police investigation for 'misgendering' someone. thats the problem with laws restricting so called 'hate speech'
what do you mean by restricting free speech?
I think we were better off when personal preferences remained personal -- as in private. I don't see the need for "coming out", public demonstrations, and parades to celebrated differences --- enough already!
In Canada, the UK, Sweden, and pretty much of the modernized European countries have laws against 'hate speech' including misgendering
Generalities are insufficient to the realities of life. Millions of people live in the LGBTQ communities. Here in very liberal minded Canada, it was illegal to be gay 50 years ago. It was an abomination. The parochial religious nonsense trumped the biological reality. Trans people are biologically different, this is supported by an increasing body of medical evidence. Erasing them by pointing at genitals is wrong. A name isn't a biological trait. Donald or Trevor or XC-95-Blork the name is not who the person is. My given name is Lindsay, as a guy, I've sent my whole life with people being surprised when they first meet me because hat's a girl name. small numbers of people are who they are, regardless of what others see.
that can be true but it is still restricting free speech to arrest someone for not calling someone a pronoun
Let's be honest about 'free speech' in the U.S. There are currently hundreds of laws that restrict speech. Here's a snippet from a website that lists the basic nine categories of restricted speech: Although different scholars view unprotected speech in different ways, there are basically nine categories: Obscenity Fighting words Defamation (including libel and slander) Child pornography Perjury Blackmail Incitement to imminent lawless action True threats Solicitations to commit crimes Some experts also would add treason, if committed verbally, to that list. Plagiarism of copyrighted material is also not protected.
Nan.. I have to disagree with you there.. that's really old guard and not what the "coming" out is all about
and why mix the LGB with the T? Transgenderism effectively throws out sexuality, if men can be women, and women can be men, then being homosexual or strait or whatever is meaningless
I still say Get. A. Room.
ch thats not free speech because that directly calls for immediate action, like fire in a crowded theater when there is no fire, but simply saying something offensive is not illegal
because its for rights for a larger group of people, covering all kinds of people
One more note: THANK YOU - each of you - for keeping this discussion civil :)
i can say 'i dont like X group, I think X group should die' that is protected, but if say 'I am going to kill X group' that is a call to action
no problem
Get a room? come on Nan.. the government loves to intrude in people's bedrooms.. and it's no business what happens there to anyone but the people who are there.
civil discussion is hard to come by these days
i have to go for now
thanks ru I was trying to figure out how to say exactly that
exactly, so why the need to put what happens in people's bedrooms on display --- you don't see heterosexual parades --- I'm not objecting to the preferences of others, I just don't want it shoved in my face -- I have rights too
I don't like the right to lifes fanatics waving signs in my face either --- again it is all in very bad taste
can I have stats for the S? I have si4/5
well.. what they are protesting though (Gay people) Nan is the Christian Right's plans to discriminate against them with laws and removing their rights that should be allowed. There is still a long way to go in this country and hopefully the hate will diminish more so in the years ahead.
si5 too dan
sa 5/12, si 5/22
that was a great discussion and i also appreciate that it was respectful. nice job folks
got to get to work now
you see heterosexual parades every day of the week. happy couples holding hands, kissing, holding hands, arm in arm, the stuff of major advertising campaigns for everything from travel to jewellers, restaurants to movie genres... all of which remain dangerous acts and discouraged places for same sex couples
thanks ruru and therealblah got em
advertising will always try to appeal to the largest group of consumers --- you notice that other than the aarp ads the actors are all young too --- something I will never be again - but hardly threatening.
off topic, but I just had to say we are having snow today in NC and it was like 75 on Sat
I have fi4 x 2, fi6 and fi7, what's my missing F?
given the discussion, ironic to have ou5 in the grid :)
I continue to be confused by all the "gender" stuff going around. I had to ask someone why there was a line in a contact's business email signature that says: Personal Pronouns he/his/him
seems pretty straightforward, Molly. Would have helped my friend Dana a lot in his early career
I find it confusing to have "they" in a convo relating to a single person and not multiple people
I realize there are gender-less names. I have just never seen the need to identify personal pronouns in an email signature.
missing f is fu4
Well Hokie, if we are going to be all politically correct, perhaps we need to include the multiple personality people who would be we/they/them. : D
political correctness is just respect and courtesy for others. Isn't it better to know how someone prefers to be addressed than to assume you already know?
we have snow coming down right now
thanks spellit - got it
looks like ours has stopped or turned to rain
hokie not sure when ours started but it is coming down
snow that is
thank you dan
courtesy and respect aren't a great imposition
si 5 please?
I stand corrected not much snow now but looks like rain
if you already have half a dozen but you want si6 cybernan
sorry cyber I don't have it either
does it start with a number
yes, starts with a number
lol -- good clue, dan
I am kinda surprised they have not dismissed schools. The roads are just wet but you know how it is in the south.

un6?
I can't find any of the un's besides the 4
I have an un that means take down your camping site?
hokie, there's an odd one that is past tense of removing a canvas shelter, but NOT the word that means present tense of doing that ....
oh but that's the 8
the 6 means very not impressed
found a 5!
thanks, natasha.
care to share a clue hokie?
found the 6 with the clue, natasha. thx
an un*** mother
ah, tx
ok, found the 8. that is a weird one. never heard it actually used in a sentence.
the other 5 is a plural I missed
thanks NatashaW that's firewords! I just found the 4 letter root for that un6 right before it, didn't think to negate it
only 6 to go after first pass through list
will probably have to get clues or look them up :(
ma7 & 6?
those were clued as cloaks earlier I believe
well, not seeing it so I'm going to have to look them up. down to those 2.
The 7 is french for cloak the six is Italian for woman's loose gown
the 6 is also a city in Italy... in Lombardy I think
well, sadly none of those helped me, so I had to look them up, but now I have fireworks! thanks for trying :D
can someone please clue the CU 8?
nm...channeling peri...
i am done....not a bad grid for me...
CU8 - what do you do if you swipe a sword into a lake?
ty, but i had already found it....i finished....
I sometimes wonder if the chat font was larger if people would notice things like "I am done" that often get overlooked. I'm not fond of small fonts like the one in this chat.
hydra I don't understand
wait don't worry- found it!
how about a clue for the U words? ty
un5 - un*** parents un6 - not impressed (stick a vowel in the middle of the un5)
ty! got the 5

un 4/5 - two toed sloth, and pl
wow dont know the sloth.
and un 8 - if someone sneaks into your campsite and night and removes the structure you are sleeping in, you've been un8
un 4 - sloth is un + two vowels
got the 8. ty.

'Grats
Good morning from a new babbler. See some people found all words... how does that happen? Lol I'm not even close.
Some have been playing this for many years, and have retained a lot of words. Also, there are "helps" available, from the clues, and morewords or A to Z.
Cheers @ChampFit
:)
Hi detour, most of us never finish
But we give it a good try! :-)
Hear! Hear!
Oh yes zooz, I try, but I think in all the time I've been playing I've only completed maybe a couple times
But a week ago my daughter made me a nanny and that is far more important
Yay! Congratulations. You must be so proud!
I am, I know I'm biased but he's so beautiful and I'm so proud of my girl
That is lovely! And you have every right to be biased :-) Has your daughter chosen a name for the the little fella?
Yes, she has called him Daniel, she and her partner are so happy, she deserves it, she escaped a violent marriage
But she's in a good place now with a good man
Glad she got out of that situation many don't. Daniel is a good name! One of my friends is called Daniel.
Thanks zooz, I rarely chat, but I just wanted to say how happy I am for her
Anytime, TQ, It is nice to chat to you :-)
I know you've got your own problems going on
Tablet is almost flat, and time for sleep for me. Goodnight all
(( TQ)) you are more than welcome to chat here more often!
I love books but never heard of Si 5/22 before.
Me either. Did you look it up?
Yeah lol
HI all I did not get the clue for the cu8
Starts the same as the 4/6 before it, and ends with wet stuff
Sorry...same first 3 as the 4/6
got it ty
FW...need any clues?
Congratulations, ChampFit!
TY! last words were fish...overlooked them first go 'round.
Not for me but thank you. I am about to go to bed soon.
Okey dokey. Sleep well!
Have a great evening. Happy babbling everyone!
2nd mo5 pls
2nd one is a plural of a famous painting subject
Different kind of plural ending : )
Oops, no I was looking at the first one
ma 6 24 if anyone is there please
it's kinda funky word Nancy... do you have the ma7?
it starts like that and ends with 2 vowels
yes the 6 is my last word to get
start out like the 7 add 1 cons and then 2 vowels
it's funky
turn those last 2 vowels around from the ma7
got it, yes never saw it before
a new one to me as well!
datum
oops
datum isn't new to me :D
lol that was an oops
had been chatting
play nicely ruru ;)
ruru is an Expert, I'm just a novice
gosh bugs.. you always squash my joking around
hi Bug!
what does bugsaw mean anyway? I never could figure it out
Butter wouldn't melt in your mouth, huh. You are too funny.
i guess it would if i had a margarine of error to compensate it with :D
Hi Mark. I am not supposed to be here so nobody notice. I am supposed to be looking for a new dress to wear to my son's wedding but I am not 6' tall, slim or young. It is so discouraging.
ruru loves to play with words mark so if you get him going it never ends. . . it just goes on and on my friend
heck.. i only stick around for the jokes
and I can't keep up but some people here are just as skilled and it is fun to watch you guys go back and forth
it's just the way my brain works.. it's like tourettes syndrome of punning
Mother of the Groom dresses are so hard to find. They are either slutty or matronly and there is very little in between. It took me forever to find the right dress for my son's wedding.
what's wrong with Slutty?
I have no problem with slightly slutty in the right circumstances. But not when my role for the day was Mother of The Groom.
can you go to Vancouver Bugs to look? There has to be options there
Mother of The Groom dress can't be too short, I don't do long. You can't show too much cleavage. Then there are the shoes, they can't have too high of a heel, but I like a pretty, strappy shoe. It took forever but I found something that worked for me and looked like me.
i think Bugs would look great in emerald Green or teal/bluegreen colors
I had to go with the colors my girlie-in-law picked, but I did okay in cornflower blue, even though that is not my color of choice.
men don't have to worry about color.. just if it fits
And for father of the groom and father of the bride, you don't even have to buy something. You can just rent it. And the store will make sure it fits.
I envied all the men in rented tuxes that day. : D
I will say this, those kids of mine had the nicest ceremony and the most fun reception ever. I loved their special day and had a lot of fun celebrating with them.
My kids are being good and not requiring anything in particular but Molly is right about how hard it is to find something that no-one can find offensive. I will be going to Victoria and Nanaimo to shop but Vancouver is too big.
I am having fun with this wedding. They are a great couple who are both sensible and committed. She comes with the nicest 8 year old son ever. She is sending me links to dresses I might like and that would look good on me. I like most of them which is another good sign.
I asked about the service and they said they weren't sure about that yet. Church is not a part of their lives so they were planning the party and the honeymoon first. I loved it.
that's cute.. i hope it's a great time bugs
we diidn't mention god in our ceremony and i thought a few of my aunts were doing to die on the spot
They haven't decided if they will get married in some government office earlier in the day and come to the party allready set or if they will have a JP come to the party and do it in front of us all.
i go for the JP.. it's worth the trouble.. but ultimately it's their decision
My thoughts exactly ru but I am not making suggestions. I don't want to be a meddling mother.
yes.. you just get dressed up and be gracious and warm and loving
then you win
Everybody wins then
my dogs are pressuring me to feed them.. hope it's a great time.. when's the wedding by the way
The worst weddings are the ones in which parents interfere to inject their own preferences. That is not what it's all about.
mine tried to control the whole thing.. right from the start.. it was awful
I will never understand why parents think that their kids wedding is something they should have some control over.
Sorry for the delay. May 11
I am with you Molly but I am astonished by the stories that I am hearing about the bride dictating what the parents are too wear right down to the proper accessories. I figure those will be short marriages.
Good evening. May I please have a clue for un8-50? Thanks
a past tense word relating to packing up from a camping trip
Not + canvas dwelling + pt
Thanks much, Bugs and Unea.
Oh, gollly...FW finally.
Fw!!
And our world continues to crumble . . . Tonight, we have our first African-America female mayor (this is great, although a known outcome, as this was a runoff, both candidates black women), also our first openly gay mayor (again, great), wins with close to 75% of the vote (again, great!!!). Why am I so gloomy-doomy? Less than 500,000 votes cast - FOR MAYOR! That's 30% of registered voters. This is the 3rd largest city in the country. Do the apathy math. Hopefully, the Light will shine.
if its not you uncle its your ???? un8-50
