my kids still quote me... when they were hurt, I would tell them not to bleed on the carpet, please, just on the tiles.

She still recognises him (mostly) - for her, it's short term memory and personality changes
oh that's so nice that she still knows him. has her personality changed a lot?
She's become more aggressive and fearful (all at the same time)
She keeps asking why she can't live with us (you've seen our stairs - even if the location and the logistics were practical...which they're not, the stairs would be a true blocker)
of course she has. with the fear of not knowing where she is or what has happened to her familiar surroundings comes the aggression because she cannot have what she desires most... live with you both.
When Jeff's sister looked after her, she treated Cathy (sister) like a servant - Cathy did it for over a year and you could see the change in Cathy
oh i know that feeling right enough. took care of my mum for nearly 3 years in her own home. i hope Cathy can now relax a little, and not blame herself.
She's incontinent to one extent or another as well, it's really not easy for anyone and Jeff is wracked with guilt as well
my heart feels for them both. terrible to see one's parent go down hill in any way, let alone with dementia.my last contact with my mum, she didn't know who i was. i kissed her and she just looked at me. broke my heart.
i'd be ok with my mom going downhill with dementia

it is not Jeff's fault that his mum has developed dementia. and truth be told... a man cannot tend to his mother without female back-up. it is a lot of hard work.
I'm sorry - that's awful when that happens - I know a few people with truly execrable parents. Even when they've rightfully cut those terrible people out of their lives, it affects them so much even now

As horrible as this may make me, I couldn't look after Jeff's mum - she's a lovely woman (when the dementia isn't in control) but I don't have that kind of patience. Also, I work full time but, really, it's more to do with my make up than that
i so wish i could help you my dear friend. and i am probably blowing i all out of proportion, but there will be someone who you can trust to help you heal that hurt.
i'm ok with it now GR.. i have worked through it and become a nice person..
