Here is a statistic for you: in 1974 a Big Mac cost 65 cents.
how much is one today? and hello all. sorry to hear the news, Ruby.
just noticed today we have the other cola
what are they going to do about it Ruby?
Today's price for a Big Mac varies by location. $3.50 to $5.00
half way
gas was 29 cents per gallon when i was a teenager
wow, $5?
Damn. You're old, Ru.
but not at heart judi :D
When I was a teenager to college student, it was in the 90 cent range.
then after the middle east crisis it started its climb to 59 and 79 and higher. I remember my Dad freaking out that he had to pay $1.09 a gallon
Yes. I too remember the gas crunch.
I remember when it went past a dollar and we would go to the Wilco, which was always 99 cents.
co7........clue please
I remember when the corner gas station in my college town had gas for .50 a gallon and cigarettes for .50 a pack
Off to upstate NY we go. See y'all next week. Ruby, healing prayers and comfort for you. Please don't let cancer kick your ass!

ihave the ye 5 that is a pl word I need a clue for the othe one pls?
both are plural. Which one do you have?
pl of the 4 above it
first one is easy. pl of a positive response
one is abominable snowmen and the other is a plural of a 3 letter word
duh ty hokie
ad 5/16?
I had to look that one up. ad + college in chapel hill
I thought that was the 7 or could be?
i even googled it
well there is a town in the same state named ad7, but the ad5 is the initials of the college
tarheels
There is a Vance college in Chapel Hill?
good morning :)
no, that confused me as well. there is a town called ad7.
ty hokie that got it for me
is there a clue for the ad 5 that doesn't involve us states, towns or colleges?
but it is unrelated to my clue
i saw the word when you said tarheels
ad + what you do to a doughnut in coffee, different last letter
ty molly
Ha nan! and hi nan!
Oh thank goodness. I was hoping y'all had coffee and doughnuts in Canada. : D
yes -- but knowing US towns and colleges is a different matter - just as it is for you regarding Canada
dos the oi 7 begin with a three letter word for grease?
yes, the most
gotit ty hokie
un 5/14, second one, pls
Nan, Nan...to play Babble you are expected to be multi-lingual with a vast knowledge of the geography, mammals and plant life of all countries. Not to mention the currency. : D
or even just a little college sports knowledge
sometimes music or tv
college sports aren't the big deal here like they are in the states
To be fair, I couldn't tell you jack about any Canadian college sports.
bichon, new word to me but it is a plural of un4/6
she just said they don't have them, molly LOL
me neither -- UBC's teams are usually called the Thunderbirds - that's about it for me
cyber are the maple leaf's college or pro?
FTR, I clued that for MLF because I think she lives in that state. wasn't for Canadians. :P
Pro hockey - one of the original 6 in the NHL
hokie yes i live in nc
cyber i thought so i only know that name because of my screen name in here which has nothing to do with that team
the bigger question is why is it maple leafs and not leaves?
I'm going to figure out a way to incorporate curling into a clue for Nan : D
if I knew anything about curling I would too
molly people or how to play?
I think the things you slide are called stones
each player is a Toronto Maple Leaf
or rocks
Man, you can find anything on Google: History has it that Conn Smythe named the team after the Maple Leaf badge worn by soldiers in the Canadian Army during World War I. So, to follow Chambers's lesson that proper nouns take regular plurals, more than one Maple Leaf badge would be referred to as Maple Leafs.
In Britain they are curling stones in Canada and the USA they are rocks
interesting
also interesting
i have watched the women's and men's championship not that long ago. the men one the gold in the recent olympics
I thought when I watched in Olympics they were calling them stones (US broadcasts)
cyber i watched the curling on tv and they said stone didn't matter who was playing
won not one sorry
I think with all the international exposure the terms are pretty much interchangeable now -- you will hear both from the same announcers
hmm
unrelated but related, did you know overlock machines are overlockers in the rest of the world and sergers in the us?
i would like to try the wheelchair version but i don't think the stones or the sticks are cheap
and enable does not accept serger
i don't even know what those machines are
I think there is curling here in Charlotte
hokie, for able bodied?
if you look at the inside of your clothes, the seams are joined by a serger
the hems are done by a coverstitch
hokie ohhh
Curling wasn't all that well known other than in Scotland, Canada & the northern states until Air Canada sponsored an international bonspeil called The Sliver Broom in the early 70's - otherEuropean countries started to come on board then
I don't know if they have wheelchair curling or not
I call my machine a serger
I do rem in the last olympics hearing that it was invented in Scotland. Is there anything they didn't invent?
and the wheelchair version hasn't been around long at all
i have air conditionoing again. at least, for this season. so happy
interesting, nan. maybe it is serger in North Am and overlocker every where else.
amen owl
and i am $400 poorer. damned environmentalists.
freon?
oh yes
would you rather be hot all the time?
3 lbs @ $90 per
well, i was for 10 years when first i moved here. but now i am old an full oaf allergies
once you have central you can never go back to window units
we had to get 3 lbs this year too
agreed owl
You are allergic to oafs?
carla, i hope it was a better deal for you
ha
I think ours was $350
i want instep to be in this grid so badly\
window units are nice if you are in the same room as it is until it gets too cold
we only had one at the time
wow. i paid $95 service call too
struggling to keep my lips zipped after molly's question
those service call prices are ridiculous
it's not supposed to be legal to fill it more than once,. mine has been replaced 4 times at least
we had a cheap AC guy but he had the same thing peri's got and ended up having open heart surgery and part of his shoulder removed. he came and did the freon, but he hasn't responded to our latest texts so I worry. he is only mid-30s too!
yikes hokie
my window units went to my parents and were sold with their house
that kinda sucks owl
wow that is awful
ours have been filled with freon like every season. have never heard it's only supposed to be once. the hubby did say we'll probably have to replace it next year.
a new system will cost $8k since it has to be redone for the new refreigerant.
we have 2 AC units and a heat pump in the basement. hopefully won't have to replace them all at once.
as 5 please?
eyah that wouldn't be fun hokie
if i may change the subject, has anyone ever tmade a peineapple cole slaw? i need a pot luck dish for tomorrow.
well the estimate was nnealy twice what i thought i remembered they quoted last year. so i will shop around
never heard of it owl
I have never made any flavor cole slaw
me either i don't like cole slaw
cyber looking with you
as5 starts with the snake, ends with to be
big outdoor thing, so needs to stay at room temp. i love pepper hash, which is sweet vinegar chopped slaw. omg you are in carolina and never had slaw?
I said I never made it. I am sure I have tried it but I'm not a fan.
slaws seem ubiquitous for sandwich toppings now
i hate cole slaw
i am not a fan of the sopped in mayo stuff. but i do love a good vinegar based salad
ty carla
lol well they said bring something, they did not say bring something everyone will like ;)
ty carla
I think sopped in mayo might help LOL
trust me, these vultures will eat anything. and i will make it vegan
dso you are secretly making it for yourself?
last year i made italian sausage and peppers. gone in sixty seconds.
okay, I'm really going to do the chores I never started this morning.
sausage and peppers is a big thing in wv
i buy coleslae mix greens and add it to my salads. love it expeicially if there is chicken in the salad. and soy based dressing
okay i gtg will be back...
bye carla stay cool
bye fan
off to make a test batch . later
es 6-7 please?
The act of keeping watch like undercover observations.
us6/7 anybody?
If you had a N at the beginning of the word, Dan2bit. It would describe people who are annoying but without the letter i in it.
thanks zooz, weird ones!
have that one, ty zoom -- looking for the first es 6 (6-7 combo)
ends in ** Gore nan
That was what I was cluing, nan :-)
so both es 6's are undercover observations?
yep nan
the 1st one is the act of...
ok - ty - a new one for me -- wonder who dreamed that one up?
probably some old french guy...way back when...
bbl
a la prochaine, mtl
Oh my I am very confused. 2Bit asks for us6/7, then Zoom clues it. Then Zoom tells Nan he was cluing es6/7. Aaaaaah
mtl gave me the last clue, molly
No, where Zoom says "that is what I just clued Nan"
let me make it easier, someone can clue me the us 6/7 pls?
us + take the first letter OFF OF short for Mrs. Reagan
Zoom was cluing really fast to two different people and I just got lost.
Nope if you look back. Nan asked for a clue I gave the clue. Dan2bit asked for a clue for a different word. I gave a clue to that also. When Nan said shae had that one and Montreal said it ended in Mr Gore I said that is the one I just clued.
ty molly
Don't worry about it Zoom. I'm running a quart low today.
((Molly))

Howdy all.
Fun fact of the day: There is an alligator on the loose in the city of Chicago. Authories have been working 24/7 to find it. It is in now the 4th day. City residents are rooting for the alligator even naming it Chance.
I just read about Chance online!
sounds like a movie.. like david hasselhoff will come in as a alligatoe expert
No, no, no...Alligator Dundee
sounds like a croc to me
Hopefully someone will come to Chance's gator-ade
or take him on vacation to the Caymans
i wonder if Chance is a Mastergator/
Bwaaaahaaaa
Ru finally gets a laugh
Fret not for I have returned from finding a shrubbery that I could cut down with a herring for the Knights who say you-know-what.
Happy Colorado Springs Gay Pride weekend!
the small town in VA I went to high school in had a gator on the loose last summer. people kept seeing it in a creek. they caught it after about a week and figured out where it came from.
Ni Ni Ni
ftr, they are not native there as they are not in CHI either
theyre saying it was someone's pet
reminds me of this old 80s movie about a pet gator someone flushed in the toilet and it grew up and terrorized a town
I remember watchng it on one of these UHF stations. we didnt have cable til i was in junior high
Oh yeah, that is so normal, someone having an alligator as a pet. NOT
how hard is it to find a gator in a polluted lagoon in chicago?
its not too far from wrigley park and the gay neighborhood.. im looking at the map
And if you have an alligator pet, how does it get loose? You accidentally leave the front door open?
oh and its next to the zoo too.... interesting
well. not next to.. but close by
Jim Morrison was right. People are strange.
i want a pet pig but... too much work
Id call it Elmer Porky
spead
FW
I loved that movie. I think it was just called Alligator.
found it on amazon.. yep.. ALLIGATOR!
So, the one in my town belonged to a guy I went to HS with. He was really big into reptiles and had been in trouble with the law in TN for having certain ones that weren't allowed. Anyhoo, he got bit by a rattler a few years ago and almost died. He had 2 gators when the one got loose. He was out of town and had someone watching his pets.
59.99 for a new copy :(
dang, that's st5
what happened to that guy?
well, the loose gator was last summer and I know at the time they said he'd be charged with something. one of my friends represented him in an earlier issue and said the last time he saw him in court he was yellow (which makes me think liver issues). he actually did die a couple of weeks ago and I had heard diabetes issues but am not sure. I think his organs were permanently damaged in the snake bite incident.
I mean, I think I remember him saying that on FB at the time it happened.
so, just checked justwatch and ALLIGATOR is streaming nowhere. but in other news, that movie is set in Chicago. so almost 40 years later it came true!
