oh my goodness diz - we go up to 32 C with humidity - cant imagine your temps - are other countries helping with the fires ??
Ursh, we have Amaricans and Canadians here, some from before Xmas and some in the past few days
Oh and New Zealanders
we watch a lot on our news and it is heart rending and terrifying - keep safe
I read that California sent some wild fire specialists down under...my cousin and his family colunteered to go but were told to wait for a second wave to be called up. Those fires are worse than anything they've seen here. VERY scary!
I am safe but many are not. And then we have (excuse the language) the pr@cks who loot the houses that have been evacuated
oh yes those pr@cks live all over the world
Danveryvery scary...I'm 65 and never seen anything like it
Glad you're safe Diz
a few years ago we had about 30% of the open areas of CA in flames, and of course last year we lost a couple of small towns. From what I've heard, yours are MUCH worse. Both in area and lost property and lives. I feel for everone down there...and the air quality must be awful too.
its nothing to see peeps wearing masks because of the smoke. Us asthmatics have to be very careful.

The situation in Australia is just unbelievable. I hope all you folks down under are keeping safe. I can't imagine what you are going through.

oh, that's not how you spell it!
I know I have been playing this game for over a decade, but what does NBT and NBS actually stand for? I never got around to asking until now...
no blank tiles; no blank stats
Ah...I thought it was no blank tiles and no blank squares, which never made sense to me because that's the same thing
hello everyone -- 3xe to make up for the last one :)
Hi Nan! My sister says hello, too.
hi dan
hi liz -- amazed lickety is still able to post -- isn't his whole region on fire?
Hi Nan - I think he's in the Sydney area but I'm not sure exactly where.
However as long as he has internet, his computer posts the lists automatically.
There are a lot of fires in that area.
We saw a map on the news this evening showing where all the fires are -- seems to me that Sydney is surrounds and a huge region to the south is on fire as well
The urban area is OK - the fires are around. The most must be pretty awful.
such terrible lossed for so many people that have had to flee for their lives and a tremendous loss of life as will -- what a disaster
That should've said smoke.
It's really awful. We had fires here but the area is OK at the moment but we were never in real danger. I can only vaguely imagine how awful it must be for those directly affected - human and animal.
BBL - have a good night, nan
bye liz -- off to bed soon
only need one more, the first te5. can anyone help?
three vowels in the middle....
got it! thanks pen. FW at last!!!!
could it be te+double vowel and cons
yeah!
congrats...
i am heading out....bb later to find my last 32....
bye all...
make that 28.....reallly leaving now, lol...
Bonjour
((Ruby)) How are things with you?
((zzoozz)) I'm happy to see you
I'm still here, managing better than I did last year
I am always happy to see you! Glad you are managing better than this time last year!
How are you two lovely furry friends! Still protecting you?
you = your
The French health system is taking very good, attentive care of me and although I have pain most of the time, they give me enough pain meds that it's manageable -- only an 8,most of the time
The 'kids' are wonderful -- loyal and protective and get long very well with my caregivers
I am pleased to hear that!
I hope you have a nice fire going to keep you warm too!
It's very cold here, but the fire is lovely
my weekend lady, Bernadette, made me Fr toast (which they call Pain Perdu in France
Nice!
I myself is having honey sandwiches and a cup of tea whilst I babble!
Did everything end okay with your son and yourself? I remember he was being a bit of an ass last time we typed?
Things are better with my son, more relaxed and we're in regular communication again
He is just like his father, no surprise there.
Oh that is good to hear, Ruby!
Well yeah that was why I asked LOL
He made a link so that I could hear one of his radio performances.
diet
sorry, no more talking
And did you enjoy the podcast?
Oh stuff the word lol
Yes, I felt very proud
You are not getting out of talking to me that easily haha!
You are Always so nice to me; I really appreciate it.
Well it is a simple fact that I enjoy chatting to you. And most of us put grid words in the chat log nearly everyday so one or two more does no harm.
And let us be honest. If they could not find the word diet thren maybe this is not the game for them!
hahah
Now, I'm in waiting mode -- for the spring when the new flowers planted in Sept should start appearing
It was an optiistic gesture to help me get through the misery of winter
optimistic* what's a syllable here and there?
Just think how the garden will look once they start to come through! It is going to be wonderful!
Although not sure about the garlic flowers your helper dug up though LOL
A syllable is nothing between two typoholics like us, Ruby LOL
The only disappointment was that the Christmas hellebore only got leaves, no flowers, but I have lots of flowers in the house: a big bouquet of pink and white tulips and gipsophilia (sp?) surrounded by several small white poinsettias plus several forced hiacinths in the kitchen and some amaryllis in bud in living room
Flowers make a huge difference for me
My Hyacinth flowers never used to do too well for me years ago every other plant I had indoors did well not those though. No idea why.
Os7 comes to me via Grey's Anatomy. By now, I could probably do a heart transplant!
I could dd with a throat transplant! I have had a hacking cough now since the end of September! and no cough medecines I use touches it.
Nightnurse and diazepam at night used to work wonders but even that does not not help now.
I suspend the bulbs using toothpicks over small-enough jars or glasses

sorry everyone
Well sandwiches have been consumed and my time is up for now. Really nice to see you ((Ruby)) Hope to see you again soon.
Yes, it was a pleasure having our chat and hope to see you soon bisous

not hard to do sometimes
hokie didn't take me long either to find that word
well that's because you didn't close the door on it's cage carla LOL!
:D

that is not jumping out at me
Ends with a cuban liquor
thanks Bea that's fireworks for me! :-)
it + vowel x Jamaican liqueur
any clues needed?
Congrats, luv.
thanks Sunrise and Bea
that finishes one tile for me ;-)
Carla, I have a dark, naked tree sitting in my library. It will have to go to the curb today.
mine are still up and turned on.
Mine was looking so sad. I was afraid it would fall over.
we don't have curbside tree pickup here but every year someone puts theirs out and it stays for a while.
All my other decorations are up though.
we always tie our tree to the stairs because we have had one fall over.
*Sniff* Dark, naked tree. My house got clear of decorations on Wednesday.
I know. There is nothing worse than a dark Christmas tree.
Cuban liquor?
or someone else said Jamaican. I don't know the origin but a lot of people drink it with Coke
Jamaican liquor
Pirates drink it too
Jamaican me crazy
iterum
that's it!
That would be it.
Yeah, that's it
doh, sorry
What di the cubans drink?
Being a teetoler, these thing are ifficult for me
what's in a mojito?
I don't do a lot of drinking either
Rum in a mojito.
Cubans drink whatever you put in front of them. : D Like the Irish.
I love a mojito
I am not a fan of rum, but mojitos are good.
I want it with light tum, not the dark rum.
For me it's Coke Zero
I think mojito is Cuban. quick google search just says rum is from caribbean countries so I don't think Jamaica or Cuba lays claim
Coke Zero drinker here too!
I very seldom drink carbonation.
I wish I could quit carbonation
Hokie carla . My understanding is that Jamaican is in the Caribbean .
hi, everyone
Morning, welki.
yes, agreed - but the question was is rum Jamaican or Cuban, and I was saying it could be both or either.
hi, welki
The only time I need a carbonated drink is with a burger and fries. That calls for a Coke. A real Coke.
in a glass bottle, yum
Bea, remember when soft drinks in the bottle came out of the vending machines with the glass doors?
Most certainly!
Grape Nehi
And a moon pie
I have one of those Coke machines in my basement! my brother fixed it up and it still cools, but the mechanism to release the bottle doesn't work. I need to find someone that can fix it.
I'm sure there is someone out there to do that Carla. That is worth some bucks.
yep, just need to look
Now all you need is a juke box and a pinball machine
yep
I am struggling a bit with today's grid
I was thinking it was an easy grid.
They are never easy for me. Especially because of words like the ri8
yesterday's was much more suited to me
finally made halfway
It's funny, that is the second time I have heard juke box in less than 12 hours. My husband told me I change my tune as often as a juke box...
haha. that's a good one. it fits my husband perfectly.
how many different cat sound spellings are here? just the normal one?
I think so.
Oh, the one a kitten makes.
past tense? I'm just wondering if I need to try to make something out of mi
what were the stats for the Jamaican drink et?
yes, past tense.

wow, just looked out on my deck and saw a hawk sitting on the rail
trying to sell something?
they're always hawking something sooner or later
they're very talonted
You just beaked out your window and there it was?
maybe with the cold it's under the feather?
I'm wondering how many people are going to try to enter ha7 as an ha8, with a P in it. It's one of the really common misspellings.
I bet my hawk would love that ha7
I have heard people mispronounce it that way, never seen it spelled that way. It's like Clempson.
54 left but must get on with my day. We'll see if I come back later to finish. Bye!
Carla, you own a hawk?
ah jilli's favorite word is in the grid
morning all! is the oe7 related to the os7?
no
it's related to the er4
thanks ruru!
also thanks aeb, lickety (30) and all cluers - firewords
Lickety turned 30 again? That sly dog. : D
tried changing my profile pic to my hawk but it seemed like something went wrong since the screen was solid white after I hit upload
I see it but it is huge!
Not the hawk, the picture

Me, too, Bea. Ginormously pixilated.
and (that's what she said)
i wish i was ginormously pixilated
I will try again on my phone and see what happens
I look forward to seeing it tomorrow.
well it will probably be the same.
can't log in on my phone for some reason. it's saying my password is wrong even though I have it in my password safe.
come on, everybody, it's the ha7 dance!
Gee thanks Hursh, now I have that bad visual in my head.
oh it's the AUDIO that i love. i bought it on a CD and, in honor of the grid, am currently listening to it
So anyway, you own a hawk? As in purchased one, or captured one?
what? where did you get that?
sorry if i'm missing an obvious joke
it visited on the deck rail
oh hokie carla, not me :D
re: ha7 dance, i especially love the line "now stare around and feel the groove"
ha! I do that all the time!
(usually find it irritating, lol)
Lol, no I looked out on the deck from the kitchen and it was sitting on the rail. I took a pic and it flew down to the pool fence.
neither purchased NOR captured then
other than with camera
correct
and tried a smaller version of the pic. any better?
works for me
Yes! It's lovely!
that's a big hawk
that's what my cousin said on FB. I was thinking it was small.
that's what she said
I love how they give you "You're invading my grounds, be gone with you" look.
yes. it turned around and looked at me like how dare you. I got a pic through the window and then went to the door and it flew down to the pool. btw, it turned its head around like an owl. I didn't realize they did that.
I think through my internet research that it's a Cooper's Hawk.
based on the glare i'd say it's thinking, "i ain't nobody's hawk, lady."
One of my better photographs, a baby Cooper's hawk.
ooh, how big was it?
Not sure, it was about 30 feet up in the tree. It was about six weeks old.
taking into consideration, hawks are carnivores vice omnivores, they would have to be large to carry off their prey...
Also a nice pic, Molly
my rilla could tell you about THAT
she was KITnapped by a bird of prey on her first or second day of life. she has very firm opinions that they are rude mean bad birds.
LUCKILY she is a good wiggler and got away
oh, had to click your profile to see, molly. very cute. no one's (well, mine or Molly's) profiles are updating even though I've refreshed about 10x.
stuck on os /7 ?

ah, we've had that one before. thx

(is it missed if you make a parenthetical reference 2 min later?) :D
You have to CNTRL + F5 refresh to get this page to refresh properly
if i ruru jokes late in a forest...
Greetings, all.
Ru, you could have done well with the KITnapped thing.
waves to judi
mac user here, command F5 brought up Voice Over and control F5 did nothing
that is also why I had trouble with the pic, I love apple photos except for when I need to do something external with a pic
I reckon it'll be refreshed tomorrow
No clue what Macintosh people need to do.
greetings, judi
I have just been hitting the reload button in the browser.
Google says it is COMMAND + R
Okay, thanks for checking. I think that is the same as what I've been doing (reload button in the browser), and it did reload the page, but still the same.
When I hit the refresh button in the browser, it reloads the page, but doesn't update icons. When I use CONTROL + F5, it refreshes the icons. But that is Windows.
let me toss my cookies and see what happens
that worked!
yuck
but I actually closed this tab first, so maybe that worked
** sorry to see the cookies go **
anyone here know what the 8 is?
ri8/45...dumb word
Time to go. 38 left in the bucket.
good clue. thanks.
thank you!
it's like 3 mos. of pregnancy without the first letter
did you all see the def? it really is a dumb word.

My definition would be "bad internet spelling of a poet"
thx carla, great clue
I think even spelled correctly it's a dumb word, but yes, it looks like something from Urban Dictionary this way.

Right there with you Deeha
i assume it's considered a proper noun

The dictionary used in this game is not updated to reflect modern usage. But it is a wonderful resource for obscure Scots argot

it's the body part used to produce if it's yellow, let it mellow
thought so, but not the usual ending
ty nat
this one's the tube from your kidneys to your bladder. the one ending in -thra is below that
oe7?
oe7 is that annoying babblet that resembles the word for a type of wool
oh bother, all the o words look ridiculous
OK doggie is indicating her impatience... in a minute she'll use her snout to close my laptop. HAGD all!
thanks natasha
hi all. clues for the 8 please.

ri 8 = 3 months of a pregnancy without the first letter
a school year is divided into se******'s. ri plus the missing letters is the ri 8
any clues for the o words for the o in second column? thanks.
ot 6/18 babblet
ty nan. clues welcome. cant think of a word
os7/32, like a bone tumor. it's not a tumah.
the ot6 means "idle". why can't we just use idle?
ty for the os 7 carla - good clue
kinda makes sense though sense the ending is the same as someone in a coma is comat***
sarcoma is bone tumor. i am confused.
ok i shortened the other term and got it. ty.
ok, I'm not a dr. what is a prefix for bone
the real term is a os***sarcoma. but you leave out the sarc and get the term in the grid.
finally fireworks that last word was a doosy te 5:12
what is that ot word? ot 6 meaning idle? hmmm
congrats cheryl!
I didn't even stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
ty ty
well done, cheryl

you too!
hokie?
can someone give me a better clue then think a lot of vowels?
I didn't find it either. I tried every combo of t + all vowels I think is possible. let me look at the list and see where it falls.
too many e's next to the t!
yeah no kidding hokie
!
starts w/te and ends w/d vowels in between
de 6/24 right hokie?
that de is what you take when a road is closed
The de lots of vowels thing wasn't the best clue
yes I have that one
the os word starts wit osfor a 5 letter word pertaining to bones/
The de6/33 is more of what the wet morning grass looks like
if its the 6/24 take another path or road
I thought the vowels was te5/12
i have all three of those
I have 3 de's, one right after another
it is Hokie
you are correct there
the previous clue didn't make sense either
who's on first?
*!*~*!* The "words" just keep getting more and more unbelieveable
te -- constant,,, you know those things you see with?
okay i just go tte 6
eieio lol
Okay, when the chat stops making sense, that is my clue to get busy with something else.
this game is supposed to make sense?
lol
that's what i was wondering cyber
Not the game Nan, the clues.
any clues wanted before I leave?
thoe have their moments too
the te word we have been trying to clear up a clue for so some of us can get the word?
oe? I think it was mentioned briefly earlier but I didn't get
i thought ti was a os word because the clue mentioned bones
but i don't have the oe word
there is an oe7
oe 7 sounds like the wool used to make suits or jackets
like sewing?
te 5/12 = te + first person pronoun + most of fatal date for Caesar
oh, I've seen that before and didn't know the wool then either. looks like all 1 pt tiles so hopefully I can figure it out.
the wool is wo 7 -- starts with not best
like what you do to wool to make yarn
ps - wo 7 is not in the grid
but substitute oe for the wo
okay i am confused going to find something else to do on the internet which ai am not having much luck with either bye
are you looking for the oe 7 or the os 7, mlf
got the the! we have had that before
te (stupid autocorrect)
lol
*Opens the bar in the PB. I think several of us could use a drink*
I"m down to 20 and just floundering
well, in spite of me being mentally slow(er) today, I just managed to finish. finally looked up the oe.
there were certainly a LOT of words I should have gotten pre-list
can we have rum?
on my way out --hagd everyone
tata
You can only have rum if you can specify whether it comes from Jamaica or Cuba. : P
Could I have a clue for the 8 please?
ri 8/45
Ri 8 it Sounds Like a poetical lyric type person.
or think stages of pregnancy and drop the first letter...
fireworks!! yay!!
That pregnancy clue has gone around several times today.
any clues needed before i scoot?
Congrats, Marksdolly! Not for me but thank you.
ty!
the majority of them are common words
okey dokey, tata for now, as Tigger always says! happy babbling!
Jaxh66 Would you like a different clue if that one is not doing it for you?
Good afternoon all. Can someone give a clue for the os7?
The DEF A benign tumor.
ty zoom.
Sorry, my chat hadn't moved up. Got it now.
Is the benign tumour related to bones? My husband has bone cancer at the moment, but has had fantastic treatment that we hope is curative
It would appear to be from the spelling of the word.
Jax. I am sorry to hear about your husband. I hope that the treatment works for him.
Yes it is related to the bones, Jaxh66. I too am sorry to hear your husband has this and I so hope that what ever treatment he is getting works well for him.
He's had surgery which has removed the tumour and chemo. All is good at the moment. 9 months since his treatment finished
That is good to hear!
thank goodness for our wonderful NHS.
Yes it is knocked a lot by peeple including myself at times but compared to other places it is an amazing free care for anyone who is a resident here no matter what your status is.
sending many good wishes to you and your husband, Jax
Thanks all. It's been a tough time, but I think we're over the worst now
I wondered why you weren't here as often.
I need to get going but would like to wish you all here a Happy New Year.
Sending you and your parents much more peace this year than last zooz. You so deserve it.
((Bugsaw)) That means more to me than you will ever know. Thank you xx
And now I am gone.
clue for it6 please
It is what you drink in the PB before you count things off one by one.
Or less obscurely, it ends with a pirate's favorite drink.
Hampster is there but not allowed?
not spelled that way jin
ok - what am i missing here?
Tx for it6 :-)
thanks
got it! thanks for the nudge
Jindigo, you've added a letter
ha7/36 doesn't have a P in it
ha8 is the rodent in the laundry basket : D
hampsters get into underwear
do they also wear outergarments?
can someone please clue the OE word? It's my last word...
Now I am creeped out thinking of hamsters in any garments
we lost a hamster once when I was a kid....found it a few days later when my father opened his desk drawer and found that the hamster had chewed up his receipts to make a nest....
wo7 is a kind of yarn or wool. Take the w off and add an E
it freaked my mother out because she slept in the room with the desk...
ty molly...i am done...
No worries. That was just a repeat clue from earlier.
clue please for the 4th and last re 6/21?
