ai 6/18
Quiet morning in Babbleland.
I've been a busy little "has Friday off person". Cherry pie in the oven and Mexican chicken soup in the crock pot. : D
Wow. Sounds good.
What to have for dinner is a constant thought. Still thinking.
I'm trying to get "hot" things done early. It is supposed go up to 96 today.
I got some really good sweet Italian sausage this morning. I am going to put that in some spaghetti sauce on Sunday.
I did a simple shrimp dish last. It was nice to have something different, even though I'm not a fan of seafood.
Ooo, I love shrimp, what did you make?
I have some sweet Italian I got from a local pig farm. Was going to put it in pasta as well.
One of my best memories is eating a shrimp salad sandwich on a fresh croissant at an ocean front restaurant. The combination of blue sky, good food and the smell of the ocean was divine.
Melt a stick of butter in a 9x13 glass casserole. Lay slices of three or four lemons in the butter. Toss your shrimp in Italian seasoning, however I used Old Bay last night, then put shrimp on top of lemons. Bake at 325 until shrimp is pink.
ty Molly but not seeing that ai6
More full of what we breathe Peri
ty Molly, supposed to go up to 96 here too
hi all
Bea that sounds delicious. I love Old Bay. It is the seasoning of my state, due to all the crab eating we do.
It was good. Served with a salad and rice pilaf.
Peri, I had the best pedicure ever a few weeks ago. That woman obliterated all the dead skin on my feet. And I have pretty red toenails again. : D
I was thinking about a pedi the other day. Just not ready to sit in a chair with a mask that long.
help with tr8 or th8 pls
th8 is a plural number sequence
tr8 starts like a word for a journey and ends with the last four of a kind of lighter fluid
Bea, you know I hate wearing masks. I did okay having to wear one for the pedicure. I brought a good book and concentrated on the story.
I find the paper masks a lot easier to breathe through than the cloth ones.
tyne
paper masks make my nose look big :D
... oh that is much too good a straight line ... I couldn't possibly take advantage of it ....
Well, at least they don't make your butt look big. : D
.... well done
I have a buff and use that
Afternoon all! Does anyone have stats, please, for the A in the lower right corner?

i should go out and see if i can grab the apple
only one apple?
the one that doesn't fall far from the tree :D
i thought that was a nut?
uh, not that i've heard, no
oh maybe i am confused:)
it's a saying... the apple doesn't fall far from the tree... when you are saying a kid is like its parent
true i know the saying
but i thought it was also a nut lol
perhaps it varies regionally...
as long as no one was hurt doesn't matter what was on the tree
now, the bottom T, i have two of, but not the other two
same here hurshy
i haven't finished any of the t words so i probably wont be much help to you
lol, have only ever heard apple
maybe people are more nuts out MLF's way :D
Maybe you are thinking of If you shake my family tree some nuts will fall out?
there was an x-files set in FL where they kept saying the nuts all roll downhill to FL
could be pyth
also acorn
...
fw...clues?

the others are all from our iberian friends.
se6/7/8 is portugese
good morning everyone
too bad I don't spea portugese
hi nan
my girls are doing duo-lingo portuguese
think the spanish "mister" or "man"
Common words in the grid, nan
... and then make it portuguese
have the 6/7 but not the 9
The 9 is the young miss
ty - got them
keep forgetting the extra letter that the portugese use
It would be nice if there was a way to filter out the foreign words in this game, wouldn't it
Then we would be left with few words.
got them thnx
... what's left in English besides "dog" and "cat" if you leave out the foreign words?
fewer words, but it would be english then
... what about colour, ardor, parliament, porter? ... they're all French
or goniff :)
Hebrew and Greek alphabet
I am stuck at 37. going to the list.
and, hebe, which has nothing to do with being a Jew
... what about "kangaroo" (Australian aboriginal") ... indigo (I believe it's Sanskrit) ... "ciao" (Italian) ... I'd hate to guess at where "potato" comes from ...
potato comes from Taino to the Spanish
That's it for me today. See you all tomorrow.
couleur, brulure, parlement - porter in french is a verb meaning to carry - ciao is italian for goodbye
... English has always just taken words from whatever language happens to be around at the time ... take a look at written of "The Admirable Bede" ... if you can spot any word I"ll give you a gold star yet it is about the earliest writing in English .... I pride myself in recognizing about 20 or the 1280 words in Beowulf (the first fiction written in English)
I was not discounting english words that are derived from foreign languages, just the words that ARE a foreign language
... color is a French word ... we just pronounce it funny .... ask anyone from Paris
... the Saxon word was quite different
... they're all foreign ... we just choose to use them ... some more often than others and for a longer time so we take them as ours
... oh well ... gotta go ... I teach Math not linguistics ... I leave that to my kid
Good morning.
done!
have a happy day all
grats, harry
need clues before I go cook?
still have 75 to go and haven't listed yet, but thanks
OK then - bye :)

I emailed "Dr God" about the jew-as-verb issue, and other racial slurs. You would think that someone who was both Dr and God could set it up so that jewed no longer gets points.
it's not there today, don't worry. It's not that it shows up, it's that some people don't realize the history.
That was my activism today in another fog brained post-pneumonia day
Might be better to write to the programmers of enable than Dr G
You get into messy territory if you start trying exclude offensive words, and the creators of Enable were evidently trying to produce a word list with minimum fuss.
That is true. Dr. God can't do anything about what Enable or any other dictionary includes in their list of definitions.
So little fuss, that some of the "words" are of highly questionable legitimacy, and may well be typos or inadvertently included proper nouns.
I find that more people are unaware of the insulting nature of "gypped" than "jewed".
I think you are right, Molly.
Happy Fourth/weekend and belated Canada Day wishes, too!
trip
SORRY!
Hi pam
hi again -- just dropped in to wish everyone a happy 4th -- which I neglected to do earlier. I hope everyone finds a way to celebrate in a safe manner.
Hi nan - I'm spending the 4th holed up trying to keep my dogs from going crazy from the illegal fireworks.
yes - that is often an issue isn't it
I had one dog who cared not a whit and another who had to be medicated.... Here, in my neighborhood in Boston, we've been hearing fireworks for weeks and weeks.....
My 100 lb 14-year-old dog is terrified. She can't be medicated because of other meds she takes.
well, it looks like you might have a forest fire in SD to add to that
It goes on for at least a month here, Pam. It is awful. The 4th is like a war zone.
UGH, so sorry, origami.
same here one dog freaked out and the other could care less
no dogs. 1 cat. she will probably hide.
tr8/9?
to all ,my american babbler buddies, i wish you a very Happy 4th of July.
they sell fireworks across the street, but I haven't heard much this year.
tr8. tr**, fall over something + what the sun does to your skin + vowel
ty granny. fw
I've been watching the news and thinking if 30 years ago we watched a horror flick where the plot begaqn with 7500 people sitting shoulder to shoulder with no protection during a highly contagious pandemic, in the middle of a highly forested region with limited access where thousands of fireworks were to be set off in the middle of a drought, we would have said " yeah -- that that is likely ever to happen!
got my hair cut today.
we are pet-free at the moment. when we have finished traveling, we will be investing in some sort of pet. probably another canary as DH says he cannot justify feeding an animal when there are so many starving people in our world. his opinion totally, not shared by this writer.
i get the pet-free thing.. Dylan is my last pet I will care for
although adopting a canary is for the birds for me
lolll ruru. well, that's me in.... a bird is an aussie blokes word for the female of our species.
Totally, cybernan... Hi, doresn and ru.
hi pam
bbl. making soup for the community freezer today. one pot of tomato and one of pumpkin. see you all later.xx
bye gr.. good luc
luck
BRB, need to open a bottle of wine.
<--- just had two glasses of wine (went out to dinner)
I had a glass of wine without going out to dinner :D Restaurants are closed here again except for take out.
oh.. which one ori?
Sounds so not in Boston, ru, LOL. No indoor dining here and not in the mood anyway, LOL!
Cheers, all. Penya here.
this was outdoor dining.. actually.. i prefer that right now
more of the blanc, ru.
they're all blanc ori
they're all blanc ori
Oh, I always prefer al fresco!
year
UGH--sorry again!
outta practice pam?
Well, yes, Ru :D The SV
oh.. you still have some? it's probably great tonight
I have a friend who went on a facebook rant about how Newsome closed the wineries in a lot of counties, but not in Napa. Making the assumption that that was because he owns a winery there. Actually, of course, it was because those counties have rising numbers of covid cases.
Well, I HAD some left :D
lol.. not a lot though right?
Napa has been seeing an uptick, but the tourists are coming now and it's adding to the problem
hello friends. late late start for me!
how many goats to you have trif?
just two, the minimum one should have. I will probs get a baby one next spring
they are just lovely creatures
i have a friend who has 6 in Placerville.. she loves them.. she lost one to a cougar though
oh how awful!
i know... it was kind of terrible for her
coyotes are a worry here, but mine are tucked in each night, the spoiled darlings
Hi Trif. I recently read that goats are very smart. About as smart as dogs. Do you find that so?
the only cougars around here chase young men though
I had to completely empty my fish pond today, tomrrow the clean out and rebuild continues. found a turtle lurking on the bottom, that was a fun surprise
goats are VERY smart! we often say they are sort of like owning super useful dogs that eat all the weeds.
Ru, there are probably cougars closer to you than you realize. They are found in Sacramento all the time.
they are very dog like in behavior - want scritches, treats, attention, curious, follow you, etc
the cougars in Napa ori wear heavy makeup
I've always really liked goats. They seem to have so much personality.
SO MUCH - and very unique to the animal. Leo is nothing like Vincent
Are there a lot of 80 year olds hitting on you, ru? :D
And, there is nothing as cute as a baby goat. I love watching them play.
no.. not me.. they like them more tender than me
can 80 year olds be cougars? I thought cougars topped out at maybe 60?
Well, shucks. Guess I am past the age for cougar status then.
cougars for me are 60-80.. and they don't top out at 60.. i see winery owners with young, young men
Trif, are your goats named after the artists?
half - Vincent Van Goat and Leonardo di Capricorn.
Ha :D
I was in a cougary relationship a while back. I concluded that young men are just not as interesting as older men.
naming them was a WHOLE THING - texts flew between the children and I for a week solid.
vincent van goat is a winner for me
"jeff goatblum" was hot in contention
vincent is straight out of central casting, goatee and all
Do you let them in the house, Trif? Can goats be house trained?
I agree, ru, vincent is a winner.
they were so vexed with me today, as I left them in their pen whilst I worked on the pond - the NERVE of me! Doing something in the yard that did not involve them! they straight hollered at me for an hour. I finally let them out and they proceeded to tear open and eat the box my big trash bags came in. super helpful
I dont' "let" them in the house, but they let themselves in a couple of times, when we forgot to close the door
Revenge of the goats!
we got lucky - no clean up required
leonardo di caprio gives me the creeps
I find Leo a little creepy, also. I can't put my finger on why.
the goat version is lovely.
maybe because his girlfriends are three decades younger than him ori?
Well, that is creepy. But I didn't like him when he was a lot younger.
yes! Leonardo has NEVER dated anyone over 28 - to this day
I heard he went to his premiere of the new movie and by the time they came out of the movie his date was too old for him
i am lukewarm on the real one, but like my goat
well he's only 45, so unless he's dating 15 year olds, ruru has overstated the case
seer
he's 50 hursh
damn. sorry
his online bio says he was born november 1974
Although, one of the world's least creepy men, Dick Van Dyke, is married to a woman 45 years younger than him.
ok.. she's 23 (his current girlfriend so that's more than two decades)
nbt. tra la la
that's nearly Jeffrey Epstein territory
jeffrey epstein DID abuse girls who were 15 tho
true and younger than that even.. he was a sick puppy
my niece works in the industry, and I hate to say it, but one of my favorite actors is widely known to be so creepy it makes people straight up uncomfortable on set.
who?
jared leto
likes them no older than 16
ewwww
that's just sick.. sorry
does anyone ever just sit the guy down in these cases and say, "dude, you're creepy. knock it off."?
apparently not
agree ruru
i can't help but think that would be a helpful first step.
no one ever said that to michael jackson either
what the hell do you say to a 16 year old? wanna go to the mall?
michael Jackson was a predator.. it's kind of different.. he set up his abuse perfectly
"i won an oscar, you could be in movies, want to come to a set with me?" - I imagine that would work quite well
I can't imagine a grown adult being interested in teenagers. It is super creepy. And I am sorry to hear that about Jared Leto, because I thought he was a very good actor.
i was very upset, origami
luckily i have zero emotional investment in jared leto. i don't think i've really even seen him in anything.
i will balance the qi - Anthony Hopkins is a GENTLEMAN through and through, funny as hell, and a joy to be around
He was fantastic in "Dallas Buyers Club."
Well, that's good to hear, Trif. I love Anthony Hopkins.
absolutely fantastic
I can second Anthony Hopkins - I sang in a concert of his music which he narrated. He was engaging and friendly, came along to our rehearsal to talk to us all about the music befoer we performed
@ru... I find him creepy too. Further, I do not have appreciation for his so-called acting ability.
my niece's Hollywood experience just tickles me - she went out there to be a production assistant, but ALL she has gotten is....acting jobs! lololol - the reverse of every actress's story, EVER
you mean leonardo gin? yes I agree
she was SO excited this year, because she finally got to be behind the scenes of WestWorld instead of IN WestWorld.
how delightful, Tigereye!
My sister works in costume and she's ended up as a hand model in at least two productions she's worked on
my dream job!
what's a hand model?
I just get excited about the fact she has her own IMDB page
That's great Trif. Back when I had cable I started the series Westworld and I really liked it.
Playing the part of someone else's hand in a close up shot
yes! my niece does to
too
My mother had beautiful hands. People used to tell her all the time that she should be a hand model.
remember Joey and the identical hand twin? lol
Yes! The hand twin!
Regina Phalanges!
Remember Mr. Hands? Oh, no
Yes! LOLOL
Chenandler Bong!
that's MISS chenandler bong
hahahaha
Hee hee
I just ran over my aged coonhound's ear with my office chair. Poor baby. She has a huge dog bed, but does she lay so her whole body is on there? Nope.
Ouch
She recovered quickly and is back asleep :D
123 to go, argh
