Another rainy day here. Same song, sixteenth verse.
Wow! You all must be getting mossy.
Yep, mushrooms are sprouting everywhere.
we have a smurf village in our front yard. it started as one mushroom and then in 3 hours it was like 15. mr. homie dug them up and then at least that many came back so he dug them up again.
and good morning
and we're having a mini drought
we are never goldilocks in the summer. either drought or too much rain
wow, it's a weird grid when the A is the easiest tile
Wow, does anyone remember Elinor Donohue? Betty from Father Knows Best and Ellie the pharmacist from The Andy Griffith Show? She looks pretty damn good for 83.
this time of year usually gives us crunchy brown dead stuff to walk through. not this year, we have a vibrant green jungle out there. husband is cutting grass (2 acres) about every 5 days just to stay on top of it.
Amelu, what is the story behind your new profile picture? It's hard to see because it's very big.
Good morning, y'all.
*Passes Judi some strong coffee and an umbrella
I lost the knack of shrinking them, lol. It's a pic of the fireworks we blew up a couple of weekends ago...
we the waterslide on 07/25 but weather concerns delayed the fireworks until 08/01.
we had, sorry
When the going gets tough, the tough blow shit up!
We need more fireworks right now.
Time for me to get the day started. See you all tomorrow.
We had the best 4th of July ever this year. People everywhere were setting off fireworks. At least COVID made one thing better.
Same here, Molls. Never heard/seen so many amateur fireworks before this year. It was great!.
Indeed, Judi. Such a stress reliever (for those without livestock or PTSD).
I do remember Elinor Donohue. Is she in the news or something? now I'll have to look her up.
I don't buy the "kid stuff" (fountains, bottle rockets, crackers, etc.), all of mine are aerial. lol, one year a friend I had invited to come out (who couldn't for whatever reason) was going over one of the high rise bridges spanning one of our waterways and said he'd though to himself "what the heck is that lighting up the sky??" (this bridge is approx. 12 miles as the crow flies)
I told him he missed a good time
I would love to have neighbors like you. Great flowers and great fireworks.
I hate it when I get cream cheese on my keyboard.
sorry, that sounded like bragging, it's not. we have too much grass and trees to catch fire so I try to keep that risk at a minimum
so do I, HH
yes, Molly, our neighbors get to enjoy a private show. some from their own porches, lol.
I make sure to contact them re: livestock and planned event then give them the heads up to get their coffee (or whatever) ready for the show.
And, speaking of fireworks...
wtg judi
wow, well done judi
woot!
just finished first pass. nbt and 36 to go
you go judi!
I am struggling with this. first pass and I still have 45 left.
*Passes Harry the wet wipes
and the cat just coughed up a hairball - will be needing more than wet wipes.
I did see the italian goodbye on 2nd pass, usually have to wait for the list for that.
*Puts away breakfast food
brunch? mimosas in the club?
time to go clean the floor and get on with the day. 33 for later. have fun!
bye HH
28 left. going to the list so I can get on with my day. :D
I did at least find the 8/9 after scanning the chat
I will be glad to mix mimosas for anyone who wants one. Me, I would never pollute good champagne with orange juice.
I was glad that the long words were at least fairly common
still serving breakfast, Molly?....i could eat something...
Wait, we have good champagne?? I was thinking bottom shelf for mimosas, not top...
I'll be glad to fix for someone. I lost my appetite after the hairball comment
Cheap champagne is like cheap dress shoes. What's the point?
well, that's why you don't drink it straight, lol.
is the ga7 a regular word because I sure can't find it
monkeyed it for fireworks. TTFN!
ah, architecture.
It is more of a silversmith word than architectural.
You only see architectural examples of that in ornate places like The National Cathedral. I love that building. it is an architectural masterpiece.
would love further clue for ga 7
is it a type of architecture?
i got it from morewords
I have no clue what it is.
If I knew the third letter that might help
g + two letter word for tv commercial + last 4 of a coconut cookie
Thank you.
good morning everyone
thanks for the ga
Thanks for tuning into another episode of "Searching For Words That Make No Sense" : D
ty got it. great clue
morning all, bit earlier start for me today
speaking of making no sense does anyone know how fireworks came to be associated with Juy 1, JUly 4 and New Years?
clue for eo 6 word please.
fireworks came from china. that is all i know.
sounds like something that refers to a long time mk
that's why I say it makes no sense for us to celebrate with fireworks
no sense at all. it just came to be
I can't help but think of all that money going up in smoke!
we use firworks from when they tried to blow up Parliment back in the day.
the eo: what is the ending please?
scottish for "John"
weirdly enough, we celebrated Guy Fawkes day in NZ
got eo. ty
Moon, Realy now that is odd. lol
yep
on guy fawkes day? -- I thought that was bonfires
fireworks too
Is that because the perps of the plot were exiled to NZ mool ? :D
some say bonfire night some say Guy Fawkes night. I think its an age thing!
Fireworks have always been celebratory. People set the off on New Years Eve too. What better way to celebrate the independence of a country than fireworks?
um, they weren't exiled anywhere :)
I don't know, Molly -- maybe use the money burned up with fireworks toput on a big feast for those who don't have enough food?
no - probaby hung drawn & quartered?
they are terribly polluting. heavy metals make all those pretty colors - they end up in the air and water
peole lit bonfire to celibrate the failed attempt and that King James the 1st survived, ( ilooked it up )
never mind all the combustion putting CO2 in the air needlessly
and our ancestors thought they were bringing civilization everywhere!
I love watching them, but they are awful.
Says Guy Fawks was extrodidet to north ameraca
Well if people were practical, they probably would. But most people Like parties and celebrations and ornate displays. You might as well say "why have weddings? use all that money to put on a big feast for those who don't have enough food"
oh, thought he was disposed of...thanks M3
a wedding is a big feast
i say end fireworks!
13 to go here. tough going now.
down to 23 here
I had a very poor yield of potatoes - dug them all up and made some yummy alu gobi
ooh, a rush...19 no
don't mind fireworks as away to celebrate - I just don't see why they have to last for half an hour or more, be accompanied by orchestras and cost thousands of dollars.
now
could be because I didn't water them :)
A wedding is a big feast. But not for those who are hungry. I have friends who spent over 100 dollars on a lawn sign for their kids birthday. Should I tell them not to celebrate and to donate that money to a food bank?
If canon were good enough for Tchaikovsky why do we now need a fulll display of fireworks?
there's a difference between communal celebratory waste and personal waste. remodeling a kitchen, IMO is a waste, but my neighbor might choose to do it. Putting up $500 flags for flag day in my city is a communal waste, and I'd object to it
*Wonders what the little Hoods think when they say "What's for dinner, Dad?" and the answer is "Aloo gobi"
not a cook, Harry? I assure you, remodelling an outdated kitchen is not a waste :)
some of my kids love it - others not so much.
I've known people who take a modern kitchen but totally redo it for $15K just to redo it.
Nan, the Puritans would have loved you. : D
our first house had a state of the art kitchen from 1955.
I hate to disabuse you of that notion but completely renovating a kitchen with top of the line materials and appliances comes closer to $50,000
original thermidor ovens and st.charles cabinets. like living in leave it to beaver
Harry, I used to know a couple who were remodeling freaks. They would move into a house, remodel and remodel and when there was nothing left to remodel, they bought another house.
nan - my data is a couple decades old :)
there's alot of that going around molly
yes - so was mine until we bought a 30 year old house that had never had anything done to it
and at that point I say wouldn't it be nice if they'd feed the hungry a bit instead of remodeling
It's been my experience that those who have money to burn, light bonfires.
but it's their money
and I'm am believer in karma
I think it's bad luck to be superstitious
I think you know the wrong people, Molly -- there is no greater feeling than knowing you can give back and make a difference.
hi all. back from doing lots of errands
help with do8/9 pls
dead as a do8 peri
they are apparently dead peri
haha ty harry and mool
Really? I know the wrong people?
I am making no progress on these last 13. will have to return and list. bye !
down to 10
Bye Harry. Enjoy your Abu Dabi
make that 8
if all the people you know "burn" their money instead of using it to do some good
Well Nan, that is not what I said. "All the people" I know don't burn their money instead of using it to do some good. Everyone has their opinions on how money should be spent. There are those that would say spending 50 grand on a new kitchen is a waste (I think Harry did)
I don't think the amount matters Molly -- prices differ from region to region - what really matters is that we don't be entirely selfish indulging only in our own extravagances, but also remember those who are in difficult circumstances.
And like Harry -- I think public spending on things like flags and fireworks should not be done when so many are without food and shelter right now.
do 8/45, pls
deader than a do 8
ty nan
yw
I agree with your first point Nan.
I think if more people who have money spread it around to those who do not, no one would be concerned with public spending on celebratory things.
that is true also, and a lot do, but there is a need for planned relief and care -- that is the responsibility of government.
coming in late, but maybe free fireworks displays can bring a little joy to some kid who has nothing.
not if the kid has an empty belly, carla
*!*~*!* hagd everyone and stay safe :)
It is not all on the government. People who have a lot of money should be willing to help those who don't. But then that would even out the class structure and God forbid.
This is the weirdness of our world. One person can spend more than other people make in a year remodeling their kitchen.
have you ever had an empty belly or known a kid that did? maybe one day of something exciting and beautiful can be nice.
to me, it's all relative. for people 0 use a actor dor example- who make a lot of money, will spend much more on what they by, per item. if i spend 30% of my inocme for a mortgage payment, it's a lot less than meryl streep would pay at the same rate.
and hence the concept of tithing for giving.
pardon my typing, it's cloudy and darkish here.
I don't disagree hunger is a problem in our country. I'm assuming it is in Canada too. but what you think is a frivolous waste of $$ is not to everyone. and yes, there are filthy rich people who spend $$ of frivolous things all the time
I guess what I'm saying is I think celebrations are a good thing
I agree Carla. Celebrations are a good thing. If people are concerned about the hungry, they can set up a free barbecue booth at the fireworks.
Hey, All
balance. balance is key.
hi aussie
hey!
How are you Owl?
evening all
i am well, and you?
I'm good thank Owl. Evening, Wendrie
wendrie!
Balance is a good thing - all things in moderation, including moderation ;)
hello wendrie
well said
oh heck, i need to call my insurance agent to see about paying on line. cannot trust post office. a card i mailed to my niece on june 7 arrived around july 18!
i need to make a daily agenda. there is so much to do, unched up together because of the closing of businesses.
rehi
among those things: a new laptop. with a working two key.
I don't think that's accepted, moo, but you never know with re-words
spoiling yourself there TO
prehaps I can have a reredo
1 to go
wow, impressive. I found today very difficult
yeah? It's been pretty smooth sailing for me on this one
although my second to last word was a lucky guess that I didn't think was a word
5 left - all a's
my last word is an a :)
I started out barely making halfway, then went to the list early. at least most the words were really weird
is it a 7, moo?
it may be :)
:D
got 'em
I will just say it's definitely one you would know. I struggled with both a7 but eventually got them
well done, knight
I got one of them
pretty early on, because of the relationship to another word
I figured that's the one you have based on your background :D
indeed
the other is not a word in my vocabulary but we have it from time to time so I do know what it means now
ah, found it
good ol' plane parts
also has an anagram that is accepted
well that one went pretty well
well done indeed
the only ones I didn't really know were a d6 and kinda didn't know the g7
yeah, guessed on the d6 with the list and g7 was my last and it took me quite a while.
but I managed to guestimate them
I almost got the d straight away when I looked at what I had left
the g I extrapolated because there are other words with that ending
and at that point I think I had two 7s, two 6s and a 5 left
at any rate, that's done for the day
thanks for sharing your moves :D, feel like I'm learning from the best
I have a pretty broad word vocab, but not the best by any means
Do have a few tricks though
you're almost an alien being!
well technically I am an alien
even have an alien registration card
that's good
dang, just got back and caught up on the fireworks/hunger thoughts... they need not be mutually exclusive. Think Molly touched on that one.
am trying to remember how long it has been since I paid bills via the post office. Years and years.
online billpay has been the 8th wonder of my modern world
I used to hate hate hate paying bills
now I just hate times one paying bills
I just went and got my first haircut in 7 months.
maybe 8 months
i got my first one in 6 months + yesterday. felt good. now i am spoiled.
prices went up, too.
not with my place. I start school next week so figured gotta look presentable
they have to pay for those rolling clothing racks and platic shower curtains.
i will just extend the time between appointments. but now i am spoiled.
