this is the grid size I was hoping for during the US holiday yesterday! morning all

asorry

what is this thing about span not existing in the puzzle when it's right there?

7:19 am

Well, the other day someone said Dr. God was adding spam to the acceptable words. So maybe that is still a work in progress. I still don't get why that gets added and some of the words people are offended by are not deleted.

Specifically ethnic and racial slurs rather than words that :some are offended by."

7:21 am

If words that offend were deleted, that would be an endless task. Might as well close down the game.

7:22 am

Same goes for adding words though. If spam is to be added, why not internet, mosh and some of the other words currently used but not accepted by Enable.

7:24 am

sl

7:24 am

That's why he should just leave it alone.

BzznBea, racial and ethnic slurs are well-known, and do not take up the whole grid. When they're present they jump out, and points are given for them. And they are hurtful and demeaning words with no other potential meaning.

7:25 am

babble just accepted the word "spell". Weirdness today

If it were YOUR ethnic or racial group that was being slurred, would you feel he should just leave it alone?

It didn't accept spell for me.

7:27 am

How can it accept spell when there is only one L?

7:27 am

Well, I'm Irish and mick is accepted in the Enable word list. I don't care because it is a word used in a word game. Not someone intentionally using the word to offend.

7:27 am

It is not accepting spell for me.

Does Mick have any other possible meaning?

7:28 am

Could I have the stats for the top left I please?

7:29 am

to the Rolling Stones Mick does

7:29 am

Take the Mick means to take advantage in the uk

7:29 am

Nope, only one meaning of mick that I am aware of.

7:29 am

is4.5 and im4.6

7:30 am

Thanks bea

Again, like the "jewed" example, it brought out that some babblers felt it was not insulting to talk about the Jewish trait of driving a hard bargaining, believing it as an actual trait, and not a centuries old anti-Semitic stereotype that causes harm. I would rule out hicks, cops and Lagos. Other words can be argued as having two meanings.

7:31 am

I find it a huge stretch that anyone does not see the contempt in the word jewed.

I'm repeating myself a lot on this issue, but again, it's not the PRESENCE of the word, but that some do not know the ugly history, and might even think it a compliment that is upsetting.

Well, Molly, we had that jaw dropping conversation right here.

7:33 am

good morning all. help with T in 3rd column pls

7:39 am

No. But if you get one, you will get the other.

what if you don't get either ;)

7:40 am

LOL!

7:40 am

Ok

7:40 am

Think brain.

I would suggest that those of us who feel that words nike the n word, jew as a verb, dago, wop and mick be dropped from point scoring words, and contemporary words like spam, and other internet era words be added. Perhaps if more of us addressed the issue, then we could change it. I'm not happy with the cu4 word wither. Other words have double meanings so they could be argued for.

7:41 am

They actually mean space and time relationship

7:42 am

Got a te7 but not the 9 yet

same

7:43 am

People have argued for and against words here for years. They have always been told that Dr. God is not interested in modifying the word list. That is why I was so surprised that he agreed to add spam.

7:43 am

he hasn't added spam

but I guess he told someone recently he would

I didn't realize he was actually responding to emails

7:44 am

that will be the day homie

7:45 am

Someone posted the other day that Dr. God agreed to add spam. Now, when you type in spam, it says "Spam is not in the puzzle" not "spam was not found in the dictionary"

but wasn't it in the grid yesterday and still not accepted?

7:47 am

But spam does exist in this puzzle

you are correct

7:47 am

Thanks got them. Carla, you need a vowel after the first 4 letters not a consonant

and it still says it doesn't exist in the puzzle, but I'm looking at it right there

thx, jax. I'm going to have to finish coffee and wake up a while.

7:48 am

you're imagining things hokie :D

7:49 am

That is what started this discussion. I suggested that maybe Dr. God is in the process of adding spam and that is why is says "doesn't exist in the puzzle".

7:50 am

I thought he could just flip a switch, like the Wizard of Oz does. =)

7:50 am

Today's response for typing spam in the ADD WORD box is "spam doesn't exist in the puzzle". It does.

7:50 am

Just because you are offended by words, does not mean they should be taken out of the grid.

yeah, like how long should this process take? if it takes days I can see why he doesn't do it more.

7:51 am

In order to change what shows up on a web site, you have to rewrite the code for the site. It can take a while. Especially with a complex site like this.

7:53 am

spam began as a proper trademarked name of the meat product. it wasn't *that* long ago that scrabble started allowing it because of the way it began being used to mean unsolicited email. Which name it got from an absurd Monty Python skit about the meat product

7:53 am

I feel the same way about the, godthaab. And I feel the same way about people in the US wanting to erase our history.

7:54 am

I agree Bea. You can't pretend words don't exist, or things didn't happen. You can only choose your own words carefully and do your best not to be a part of bad history repeating itself.

ooh, found an 8 all on my own

7:58 am

We were all awakened last night by the sound of gunfire in front of our house.

and another

yikes, what happened?

7:58 am

Just a drive by. No injuries. Just a warning.

they don't like the gardens?

7:59 am

oy

7:59 am

A warning?

8:00 am

There was a domestic disturbance across the street yesterday. The police were called. We think someone did not like that.

ah

8:01 am

I think the gunfire was aimed at that those apartments.

8:02 am

Which is actually just house cut up into five small living areas. Slum lord owned.

my friends who live downtown witnessed a shooting the other morning

8:03 am

It's just getting out of hand everywhere.

8:04 am

Bzzn - you know what they say; those who erase history are doomed to repeat it. The same thing is happening in Canada. Name me one problem that tearing down a statue solves.

yep

8:05 am

I see both sides of that issue actuall

I can kinda see the point on the statues

8:06 am

I don't see the point on the statues. If you find a statue offensive, go through the proper motions to have it removed. It is not your right to destroy public property.

oh, that I agree with. I'm not for destruction of public property. I'm saying I can see why the statues are a problem.

oh, just found an italian slur. is that what started The Discussion again?

8:13 am

Yes.

8:13 am

what does the slur begin with?

w

8:14 am

oh

8:14 am

I love "The Discussion" : D

I almost made a proclamation that it will henceforth be called that

8:15 am

Well, we would put up a statue of you Carla, but someone might tear it down. : D

just made me think of Jaynetown on Firefly

where my firefly peeps at?

Most of the Confederate statues were put up in the 1920s (ish) specifically to intimidate Black voters. They have no time and place, in my opinion, now. We don't have statues of Hitler to 'remind' us of an unpleasant time. And also, Firefly is brilliant and despite the fact the actor (Adam Baldwin) is a tit, the Hero of Canton is still amazing ;)

And that was one cool hat

was hoping that'd bring you out, matty. ;) and yes, to the statues. as in, I agree with everything you said.

I may need to do a firefly rewatch soon

Me too!

8:20 am

We did that a few months ago

8:20 am

I'm getting a bit bored with this grid.

Bichon, you're a Firefly fan?!

I was thinking you had seen it, too, bichon

Also, I can kill you with my brain ;)

I'm still on 2nd row, bea! but doing a 9:30 zoom workout so probably should start getting ready.

atmo in the grid today

8:21 am

my dd has that on a t-shirt Matty :)

8:22 am

I still have more liriope to dig out...

8:22 am

hi all.. I don't agree with the destruction of the statues. I think of the saying, "run it up the flagpole and see who salutes". As we evolve, the "bad" statues are markers of our progress and could be used as teaching tools. A part of our history, not to be adored but as markers of our progress as human beings.

why are you digging it out, too big?

8:23 am

It is taking over my flower beds.

8:23 am

I agree, Aloy.

yeah, I think the statues could be removed and put in a museum and say how/why they got made

8:24 am

Aloyisius - as learning tools they belong in museums or somewhere like that. Not in prime positions.

8:24 am

that would be a good compromise

8:25 am

but to destroy them? No, just a toddler reaction.. rage in action. And I do empathize with the rage.

8:28 am

Toddler reaction seems to be the rule of thumb these days.

8:29 am

how do you feel about those guys driving around with confederate flags on their trucks aloy?

8:30 am

any clues for the 9s or 8s? ty

8:30 am

I think they are identifying themselves and I like to know if they are around me.

Statues in parks, in front of court houses, polling places, town halls - they are there to intimidate. Sure, you want to create a museum of stupid statues? Knock yourself out. But there are many that are unregarded and unnoticed...except by those they are specifically meant to intimidate. No-one complained (here) when the statue of Saddam Hussein was famously toppled - no-one said it should be left in place to 'educate' the people. The same is true of the Confederate statues. And also, we have BARELY moved on since the Civil Rights movements in the 60s - indeed, in some cases the US (and other countries) have move backwards - school segregation, for example, is higher than it's been since the 60s and before. Sometimes, direct action is necessary to effect real change. Because real change hasn't really happened.

8:31 am

That would be a lot of clues, mkg.

8:32 am

Totally agree with you, Matty. After waiting so long for justice, I can't call the desire to tear such monuments down a "toddler reaction."

8:33 am

just one of each please.

I'd love to ask a question - and I will start by answering for myself. I am a middle aged white woman. Are there any people here of colour?

8:34 am

elder white, myself.

8:35 am

I used to be black

8:35 am

have age spots here

8:35 am

I used to be middle aged

8:36 am

te8.50 and te9.66 part of the brain.

8:37 am

I used to have game.

8:37 am

LOL!

8:37 am

thanks bea

8:37 am

bzz is the te8/50 from middle t?

I used to be young. But, unless someone says otherwise, we're all white people, many of a certain age. Perhaps we should listen to the folk of colour who are most affected by these statues, and by systematic racism. I'll get off my soapbox now, but it does, occasionally, need to be said.

8:37 am

Thanks, Matty, for all you've said.

8:37 am

Oa7/8. Think breakfast

8:37 am

No.

8:38 am

oh sorry i need stat for the middle t pls?

8:38 am

yum, thanks jax

8:38 am

ta5.10 is from that t. mlf.

8:38 am

ty ja

8:39 am

x

8:41 am

I think public displays of symbolism are all going to become a thing of the past. No statues of any kind, because they are bound to offend someone. This stuff started back when people protested public displays of Nativity scenes.

8:41 am

bzz clue pls?

8:42 am

The most privileged are the least offended.

8:42 am

Books will be next.

8:44 am

(wish we had an eyeroll emoji on here)

Actually, I think arguably, the most privileged are the most offended. Christianity is the most popular religion in the US, to the point where it's a defacto state religion, yet people get terrified that there is a non-existent 'war on Christmas.'

8:45 am

Oh they are already taking books out of school curriculum's. To Kill a Mockingbird, Huckleberry Finn and Of Mice and Men to name a few.

8:45 am

ta5/1o clue pls?

8:46 am

does the te 8/9 begin with te4/6?

8:47 am

You make a good point, Matty. At the same time, it's the most privileged who are often the most blind to how something can offend a less privileged person or group.

8:47 am

I know, Molly, but soon it will be The Last of the Mohicans, A Raisin in the Sun, The Color Purple.

8:47 am

Anyhow, I'm outta here for now, good day all

White people (of which I am one) get so worried about 'reverse racism', yet we all benefit from the Western society's favouritism towards white people (studies have been done -Identical CVs/resumes have been sent out, one of which has a typically 'black' name and the other a typical 'white' name - inevitably, the 'white' name gets more interviews.

8:48 am

almost like Lone Ranger's sidekick, MLF for the ta5

8:48 am

thanks aloy

8:49 am

yw , hi ho silver

8:50 am

exactly lol

8:50 am

aloy do you have the 8/9?

8:50 am

saw earlier clue not getting it

8:52 am

MLF, it is a love of the brain for the te8

8:52 am

yes.. it refers to a bone in the skull and ends with the opposite of written. Like a test that is spoken

8:52 am

LOBE

8:53 am

lol Bea

8:55 am

ty got them

8:55 am

good, wtg

8:55 am

thanks:D

9:00 am

i'm glad I didn't clue that Aloy :D

9:00 am

ooh, ru.. on second thought.. lol

9:04 am

I guess I'll head out to the flower bed. At least it is not street side in case of more drive bys...

9:04 am

34 left but will probably leave those in Judi's bucket.

9:05 am

hope it doesn't happen again, Bea..

9:05 am

It will. Every couple of weeks.

9:05 am

God Bea, that would unnerve me.

9:05 am

oh no ! that is scary. Need a night camera

9:06 am

catch those varmints

9:07 am

motion sensitive night camera

9:09 am

*note to self send three bullet proof vests to bea for xmas*

9:10 am

i think it is bizarre that confederate statues are there to start with. they lost the war and many americans were killed during the battles and so it is time to move on and get rid of honoring these confederate men. there is a you tube by a black man from the ACLU THAT IS BRILLIANT! he is well spoken and he points out why blacks are offended by statues of men who advocated for their enslavement.......the same is true of confed flags. they basically stand for being pro slavery!

9:14 am

oops sorry to go on so loong.

9:15 am

don't be sorry.. we are sharing our thoughts

Here's the thing - if we get stopped by the police, or get called in for a teacher meeting, or anything that involves the 'establishment' as white people, we feel safe and that those establishment figures are there to protect us. We look at statues and think 'those people are heroes in our eyes' - they're (typically) white men who, we are taught, died for OUR freedom. But Black people don't have that luxury. They know that they may be shot, knelt upon or arrested for...driving while Black. They know that the school may be calling them to exclude or punish their child...even for transgressions that a white child would get detention at best ... or they may find their six year old has been arrested (yes, that's happened).

9:17 am

i dont know where it stops but i do agree that it would be like germans having statues of hitler........

9:17 am

not getting the te 8/9. darn.

It's so easy for we middle aged white people to put our heads in the sand and say because WE haven't experienced it, it hasn't happened. I've absolutely been guilty of that. But it simply isn't so, and we should remind ourselves of that every day

9:17 am

The confederate statues were erected to honor men who fought for the south.

No, Molly, with respect, they weren't.

9:18 am

molly but they fought for slavery. and they fought to divide the nation into two nations.

Most were put up specifically during the Jim Crow era to intimidate Black voters...to keep them from rising up. To keep them from voting. They weren't put up immediately post war. It was way after, during the increase in influence of the KKK and other racist (if more privately racist) organisations.

9:19 am

hte statues are of the men who were the leaders not those whose lives were on the line. even the generals were in the rear not to front of battles.

9:19 am

help!!!!!!!!! just not seeing the te 8/9 or is it ta?

This isn't about saying 'well, Robert E Lee was misguided, but basically had a good heart and was fighting for States' rights.' It's about 'let's scare black people and put them in their place and make sure they don't agitate or vote against us'

9:19 am

Well, I don't have my head in the sand because "I" haven't experienced those things. I don't think a lot of other white people do either. I see both black and white people at the recent protests.

9:20 am

I don't think there are many black people who are currently scared by statues.

te 8-a worker who is not permanent + verbal

9:21 am

molly, please do go to see the talk by this man about racism. it is very subtle. he works for the ACLU and is an attorney.

9:22 am

ty luv. looking for verbal .

9:22 am

Like I said before. It's time to take down all the statues. o matter what the subject, some group of people are going to take offense. It's just that kind of world we live in now.

Not so much scared, but intimidated. When every other statue you see in the South is of someone who literally fought to keep you enslaved, that's going to affect you

9:23 am

mkg, I have several black friends and I am very familiar with subtle racism.

9:23 am

got the te 8/9! ty so much for the clue. great. ty.

9:23 am

great molly. perhaps ask them their opinions about the statues.

There was a civil war hospital near my parents' house and in turn, a cemetery filled with confederate soldiers. there is a confederate flag flying in that cemetery. not sure how I feel about that. it's not there to intimidate, but just to mark that these real men and boys died in a war they may or may not have agreed with or even understood.

I'm not even sure who owns that land or put the flag up

9:25 am

From what I have heard from my friends, they are much more interested in actual change than in statues being taken down or books being banned in schools.

9:25 am

books banned in schools? this i havent heard of.

9:25 am

that is bad to ban books.

Oh, Molly. I like you. I really do, but you know things are weird at best when someone says 'I have black friends'. All of us. ALL of US who are white have learned racism from an early age. We have to internally fight against it all the time. We have benefited from it every day. Every single day. Typically (myself included!) our Black friends are the most white acting blacks we can find - we go for Cosby (of the Cosby show, not the creepy actual guy) rather than Tupac. Of course we do - it's what we know. Actual change involves removing Confederate statues - it's a sign, a symbol, a real thing that helps to effect actual change.

9:27 am

Matty, I can tell you that my friends who are black would not be offended by my saying what I said in this discussion. They are well aware that they are black and they have said "I have white friends" in similar conversations.

9:28 am

Can I have stats for the lone T?

9:29 am

As a jewish girl, i felt closer to the blacks than to the white christians. i felt a kinship because of the discrimination I felt as a jew. i felt we were both victims of the same whites.

ta 5/10

9:29 am

google Confederate Women ~ I read several of those sites, helped me to understand

9:29 am

ta 5: sidekick for lone ranger, spelled with diff. first vowel

9:30 am

I think that t is ta5.10.. well, I have to go - thanks for the good chat, all. Ciao for now!

I'm sure they wouldn't. I suspect they're middle (or upper middle class) Blacks who have played the game and believe it. They hope for the best for their children. But would you want your children to be treated as Black children are? You know what I want? For my grandchild to be treated the same as a Black child of the same age, because I want the treatment of Black children to rise to the level that white children enjoy.

9:31 am

TY luv

Remember, people would rather hire a Kate Gowers than a Latoya Washington. Even if we had the exact same qualifications. Think on that. And that's before we get into police killing Blacks, arresting Blacks, imprisoning Blacks disproportionately.

9:34 am

Unfortunately Trump is trying to fan the flames of racism to pull off this election

yeah, and unfortunately these flames don't need fanning

9:35 am

bringing the wrong kind of attention to the issue

9:35 am

my 2 cents re: the southern states then I'll go back to lurking. https://tinyurl.com/y29brqra

He is. But what he's really depending on is casual racism - not the confederate flag flying, epithet shouting good old boys - he has those. It's the middle class white people who don't want their TJ Maxx damaged. Who say it's a shame that statues are being damaged. Who watch Fox News (or even 'normal' news) and see there are 'riots' in the streets (which most involve graffiti and fireworks - not all, but mostly - I have friends on the ground who are journalists). They don't want to risk their lawns being damaged or Target being shut.

9:39 am

that's kind of a broad sweeping statement matty really?

9:39 am

i have hopes that a lot of the middle class is a lot smarter than that

Well, yes, Ru, of course it is. These are tiny chat boxes and not a debate stage. But I still think there is a segment of the population (not targeting anyone here!) who will be swayed by Trump's law and order BS and the media painting all the protests as anarchy

if there's one thing I've learned in recent years it's that this country has a lot more stupid people than I reallized

Also, I said that's what he's depending on (and hoping for). I can hope that I'm wrong!

gullible may be a better word

Amelu, it wasn't taxes (and it wasn't Seminole - the word they're looking for is seminal). It was slavery. Have a History.com link, rather than a biased link: https://bit.ly/3293CqB "Growing abolitionist sentiment in the North after the 1830s and northern opposition to slavery’s extension into the new western territories led many southerners to fear that the existence of slavery in America—and thus the backbone of their economy—was in danger."

I don't think I told y'all one of my cousins and his wife refused to wear a mask at my dad's graveside service, even after I asked them to put one on and offered them one.his argument was that he has been working since the beginning (he's a walking postman) of the pandemic and he has 200 stops and is fine. that's even more of a reason you should wear one!

matty, I was expecting that blog post to be written by a southerner, but it was actually written by a northerner. so not sure where his bias is coming from. I was always taught in the south that it wasn't slavery (even took a course in college by a leading expert), but now am being told of course it was slavery.

ea7?

and I was like, what does he mean seminole? LOL

9:49 am

Sorry, just going back to my jr high history days, which, by the way, were outside of Flint (yes, the most wonderfully discussed bankrupt city of reknown) Michigan, not here in the south where I choose/prefer to live. You know, back in the day when we honored Pearl Harbor Day, Washington's bday and Lincoln's bday...

hmm, not earlint, sugrra

LOL

ea 7 is when you get a song stuck in your head (compound word)

thx, luv. surprised that was in the dictionary when enable was made

me too carla

9:50 am

the whole issue was greed! the entire south ran on slave power which was free for the owners. it was totally financial. the war was fought to keep slaves so the owners would continue to be rich as stink.

9:51 am

luv what is second word? i have first one.

9:51 am

Everyone is going to interpret history to suit their argument.

bait for fishing

things you might use fishing, mkg

9:52 am

But I kind of like the "so the Southern slave owners could stay rich as stink" argument. : D

that's why the mountain folk were pretty split, they were poor as dirt

10:21 am

still have no sevens. the one about hearing music i never got second word. clues welcome

10:21 am

tried google: song stuck in your head and it didnt come up.

10:22 am

ea 7 more clues please. ty.

are you familiar with night crawlers that people use fishing?? or earth***** that come out onto sidewalks when it rains?

10:23 am

10:23 am

sorry

10:23 am

If you do a Google search on what is a song stuck in your head called, it comes right up

10:25 am

not at 45-50% taxation to take care of the rest of the country. J/S, yes, slavery became the issue for the north because they weren't making headway with keeping the taxation going, so let's just bring in social justice. Unfortunately, in the meantime, lobbyists have figured out more and more ways to add pork for their chosen gov't official so now we're not even getting straightforward laws on taxation, lol. The bottom line to everything is the almighty dollar. And I don't have an argument, I just get tired of hearing "slavery" every time I turn around. Blacks were not the only slaves here and around the world, it really doesn't matter how much melanin you have or what your age is, slavery still exists today globally, I just don't see what tearing apart history is accomplishing.

10:25 am

maybe she is using duck duck go instead ;) (inferior search engine that I use)

why is ddg inferior? I also use it, because of no tracking. Does well for me.

10:27 am

got the ea 7 and 8.

10:28 am

I just think it doesn't find things as well as google

10:29 am

I also still get ads for things I've searched. the whole reason I started using it was for no tracking.

10:29 am

good morning everyone :)

10:30 am

A tree company is taking down a tree and it's so loud here

10:30 am

Which browser are you using carla? Have to say I am getting awfully tired of all the pop-up ads

But perhaps it's the page, like amazon, selling your cookies, not ddg

10:33 am

I use safari usually

10:33 am

I have a pop up blocker

10:34 am

I do too , but there are so many sites you can't access when it is enabled

10:35 am

I guess, rasta. certainly anything I search for on amazon shows up in ads. esp. annoying when I bought the thing on amazon and don't need to see ads for it now.

yes, that one confounds me as well

10:35 am

guess I need to look into something different. Have never tried safari - will have a look. Does it allow you to set up your preferred news source for the home page?

10:36 am

well, safari is on macs, if you have windows I don't think you can use it

10:36 am

I never use a home page, so I'm not sure

10:37 am

hooray my juicy grid is here!

10:38 am

my service provider has a local news page that I like to have for "home"

10:38 am

still working on my way through the first pass, hurshy

10:38 am

just starting here :)

10:38 am

I'm sure you'll catch me soon

10:39 am

Good Morning all. Yes, you can use Safari with Windows, but I prefer Firefox

10:39 am

interesting.

10:39 am

why is that gingin?

10:39 am

for a search engine, try Ecosia. it plants trees for your searches.

10:39 am

I used to use Firefox, then Chrome, then switched to Safari when something wasn't playing right on Chrome.

10:40 am

what does that even mean, hurshy?

10:40 am

it means they use some of the ad revenue to plant trees

10:40 am

Hello, all! Mi8 please?

10:41 am

Firefox is lightning fast and has excellent add-ons. I have an anti-popup that is great and really, it has all the bells and whistles I ever need

10:41 am

mi8 youth or mi8 something - say it wrong (there are 2 mi8)

10:42 am

is the mi 8/45 the same as fake news?

10:42 am

10:42 am

I guess, nan? if you say something incorrectly you have mi8d

11:10 am

usually the case

11:10 am

all wo?

11:10 am

yes

11:10 am

yes

11:10 am

ty - was missing the 6 -- keep forgetting that adjectives and adverbs are often pluralized here

11:11 am

first col. blackened

11:11 am

well, I'd say we have a lot of wo6 this year

11:11 am

if that right o was an e, there'd be a 12 letter word in there :)

11:11 am

i don't think it's that, cnan, i think it's when it is used as a verb, you can say like, "whichever knight wo6 the other in this duel will win the hand of the princess"

11:11 am

Okay, I need to know what Carla's missing w is.

11:11 am

yeah, lots of ifs and maybes today

11:12 am

help witheither 9 please

11:12 am

I have 4, 4, 5, 5, 6, 4

11:12 am

that's all of them hokie.

11:13 am

yeah let's have that at9 clue pls

11:13 am

You didn't notice your W was blacked out?

11:13 am

yes - I can see that, but on the other hand we never say we have had a lot of poors

11:13 am

it is gray, but I don't think it was. I must've typed something random that took and didn't notice

11:13 am

Put an A in front of the te8

11:13 am

I would if I had the te8

11:13 am

well i haven't got to that t yet!

11:14 am

still need 1 M and 2 B to black out first col

11:14 am

bl

11:15 am

it's a lobe of the br5, peri

11:15 am

interesting theme today

11:15 am

thanks hokie

11:15 am

weird how this often happens

11:15 am

phantom: omelet

11:16 am

ty molly -- didn't have the at 9

11:17 am

lol

11:17 am

this O is so hard i just tried "ottapo"

11:18 am

finally finished a cursory sweep through and still have 68 :(

11:18 am

I have 8/9 o's and 3/6 o's. it is hard

11:18 am

you are ahead of me -- still have 98 to go here

11:18 am

yeah it's that 3/6 that i'm referring to

11:19 am

yes only have 3/6 o's here too

11:19 am

suspicious

11:21 am

odd that we all know the same words? :D

11:21 am

oooh just remembered the vowel-less p

11:21 am

thx, that was my missing one from there!

11:22 am

oh ty - that closed out that square for me

11:22 am

:D

11:23 am

just found cleopatra's bane

11:23 am

and that was my missing one from THAT tile

11:23 am

still need 16 4's, so I guess I should work on those.

11:24 am

just found an om 6 from the right

11:24 am

thx, nan. got it

11:24 am

ooh yes, that rhymes with the po7 which is some kind of a grain-based dish

11:24 am

yes, and that was my first word today, just popped right out

11:25 am

It's hominy

11:25 am

phantom: apostate

11:25 am

interesting, did not know that

11:26 am

any guesses on my missing 2 B's? I swear I am really missing them

11:27 am

1 now :D

11:27 am

an easy 4 of course

11:27 am

the two fives that are extensions of the fours?

11:27 am

or maybe another 4 that sounds scottish

11:28 am

I think I have both those 5 you are referring to

11:28 am

there should be an sp 6 -- I'm gonna sp 6 how this works!

11:28 am

I have br4 that looks scottish

11:28 am

Just had to go look up the difference between cornmeal, grits and po6

11:28 am

lol, I tried that nan.

11:28 am

and you left out hominy, molly?

11:30 am

Hominy is grits, isn't it?

11:30 am

Nan is talking in her Ricky Ricardo accent again.

11:30 am

I think it's different?

11:31 am

I think there's a kernel of truth in that

11:31 am

I know that my oldest brother threw up once on hominy and therefore would never eat it again. I don't know his stance on grits though.

11:31 am

mmmmm, ma5 syrup

11:31 am

now moo is getting corny

11:31 am

ma5 syrup is one of 3 smells that I find disgusting

11:32 am

Yes, Molly. Also po 7 and in Romania, mama ligga

11:32 am

:O

11:32 am

"Grits are hominy that’s been dried and ground or chopped into bits. So grits and hominy grits are the same thing."

11:32 am

ma5 syrup, fritos, and honeysuckle

11:32 am

i agree on the honeysuckle

11:33 am

Here is weird for you. I find the smell of Sharpie markers nauseating.

11:34 am

can't imagine that and you have just helped me decide what I'm having for breakfast - bbl :)

11:34 am

yeah, that doesn't bother me. but sharpies don't have that marker smell like that other brand. can't think of it, hardly see them anymore

11:34 am

nan is eating sharpies for breakfast? ewww

11:35 am

Have to mark that one down for future reference

11:35 am

nope - waffles and bacon with ma 5 syrup

11:37 am

phantom tamale

if anyone is interested in a heartwarming news item: https://tinyurl.com/y3b8rz85

11:47 am

I love the smell of ma5 syrup.

11:55 am

hurshy..... great story.

12:00 pm

very heartwarming. I think I got something in my eye

12:03 pm

:)

12:11 pm

12:12 pm

nope

12:13 pm

i'm in the same boat

12:13 pm

just reading this crazy article about mystery seeds, anyone heard of this? I wish Bea were here. https://tinyurl.com/yxo5oxz9

12:14 pm

12:14 pm

aha, so simple my missing B was!

12:14 pm

okay, mine is a bo then

12:15 pm

ty

12:15 pm

in the article, the guy did FOIA requests for all 50 states + DC and PR and shares some things he found out. some people ATE THE SEEDS. why??

12:16 pm

they really were hoping to win a Darwin award?

12:16 pm

by yon bonnie banks and by yon bonnie br4s

12:17 pm

hurshy, see any bo that I might not have? have 2x5 and the rest are 4's

12:17 pm

12:17 pm

b0 6 - a plural

12:18 pm

12:18 pm

okay, now just need 1 M to gray out 1st col

12:19 pm

do you have mi 7?

12:19 pm

i don't!

12:19 pm

no that's it, have tried to make several

12:19 pm

drop last letter from one of the 8's

12:20 pm

that is not working for either

12:20 pm

bombing out on the top a here

12:21 pm

I still need 2 of those a's

12:21 pm

need 4 of them

12:21 pm

i have all those, lemme see

12:22 pm

there's as5/12 and 4/5

12:22 pm

at4/5 and pl

12:22 pm

at4/5 and related 5/12 that i think are hindi in origin?

12:22 pm

and the littlest bit of matter

12:23 pm

but cnan we are so confused about your mi7 clue

12:23 pm

so 2 sets of at 4/5?

12:23 pm

yes, let's go back to mi7

12:23 pm

yes

12:24 pm

mi 7 - drop last letter from one of the mi 8's

12:24 pm

we tried that, it doesn't work

12:24 pm

ok, got the a's, thx, hurshy

12:24 pm

you keep saying that, but it doesn't work

12:25 pm

oops - sorry that was an mi 6 - no double letter either

12:25 pm

aha, ok

12:25 pm

that brings me to 250 and i think i will now list

12:26 pm

still looking for 2 a's from the top

12:26 pm

only 45 behind you ;)

12:26 pm

I have 51 left

12:26 pm

12:30 pm

moo, I have 8/9 and 4/6 o's. do you want to make any guesses?

12:30 pm

12:30 pm

missing o's are just something you might have for breakfast

12:31 pm

SO MUCH of my missing stuff is turning out to be fishy

12:31 pm

okay missing 2 o's

12:31 pm

oh

12:31 pm

I am 8 and 5 now

12:31 pm

fishy as in fish related or sketchy words?

12:31 pm

EASY words

12:32 pm

I do have both 9's but only 4 8's. still need 9 4's

12:32 pm

hokie i just clued your missing O words

12:32 pm

oh douh - the tiny particle

12:32 pm

perhaps the o6 you're missing off the top o

12:32 pm

12:30

12:32 pm

no, we got that one earlier

12:32 pm

okay you got the plural on the 7?

12:33 pm

12:39 pm

12:39 pm

ty carla

12:39 pm

have an or 4-5

12:39 pm

nope

12:40 pm

there is another or4

12:40 pm

it has fancy definitions but looks like one is relating to armor

12:40 pm

and an or 4 like suns

12:41 pm

add a t to the front of the om6 for a 7

12:41 pm

interesting, never seen before

12:42 pm

nough of this - going to list now

12:42 pm

ending of st8 rhymes with the name Anne Shirley wished she had

12:42 pm

hmm, that may be too clever for me to figure out

12:43 pm

or also rhymes with ms earhart the aviatrix's name

12:43 pm

but that does make me think of st9 surname, which is in grid

12:44 pm

found the te8 and at9 thanks. help with the te9 please

12:44 pm

plural of te8

12:46 pm

duh thanks hurshy

12:47 pm

I loved Anne of Green Gables but don't remember what name Anne Shirley wished she had

12:47 pm

12:55 pm

NTPN! movie superhero played by paul rudd

12:55 pm

antman

12:55 pm

ding ding ding!

12:56 pm

Somehow, that doesn't have the pizzazz of Batman

12:56 pm

and I think technically there is a hyphen

12:57 pm

It's like in Fringe when in the alternate universe, Batman is Mantis.

ok, one N left on top row

nm

1:02 pm

ooh - monkeyed the ps 8's

well that's some good monkeying

1:04 pm

Nan, I thought you got them from Luv's clues below

1:04 pm

well - I have listed and I did have the 2 babblets that come before

1:04 pm

you inspired me, nan.....found them....

1:04 pm

didn't know they were there....

what do y'all think my missing i is?

1:05 pm

in 6 maybe?

from bottom

I have prisoner

one that rhymes with swedish furniture giant

1:05 pm

in 5 - clumsy

1:06 pm

Plural of an ending for a religion?

yep, describes me right now in this grid, thx

1:07 pm

Wait, it will turn out Carla already has all the eye words.

well, now I do

but I didn't!

now just need an A from each bottom A to finish that row.

don't know who I'm kidding, I am going to have to list eventually.

1:10 pm

99 left and stuck

1:10 pm

well if you are going to look for help with what you have left to find, you might as well list, LOL.....

1:11 pm

i am down to 84....

exactly

I have 42 left

will do one more effort. still have 8 4's

1:12 pm

41 left, 12 4s to go

1:12 pm

but also have both 9s, four 8s and six 7s to go too

1:13 pm

it's too much work to list what i have left....

1:13 pm

cannot find that ta 6/21 - clue please?

1:13 pm

heh

I still have 5 7's but done with 8's and 9's

not tamale like I want to make, nan!

1:15 pm

no - I've tried every possible combo following tam

moo, I have faith you will see the 9's on your own

1:15 pm

ok, thanks

ooh, got it nan

ends like a chinese food

lo ****

1:16 pm

She tried every possible combo but that one : D

1:17 pm

Or chicken chow...

that's usually what happens to me!

1:17 pm

ty - and yes I did try everything but that :)

of course there is no definition, so we have no idea what it means

1:17 pm

This is where we usually get a TITT

1:18 pm

It is a draped skirt worn by Burmese women. Everybody knows that, right?

of course, how could I forget

1:19 pm

wouldn't they myanmarese women now...or whatever you call someone from myanmar

1:19 pm

The second most annoying thing about this game (Enable being the first) is that dictionary that doesn't define so many words included in this game.

good point

what about pythons?

1:20 pm

*!*~*!* whew

1:21 pm

any clues wanted before I leave?

1:21 pm

you'd have to ask the snake

1:21 pm

congrats...

well done

1:22 pm

ok - thanks for the help. Hagd and stay safe :)

1:22 pm

ah, found an 8/9 combo

I knew you could, if you just used your br5

1:23 pm

I left it unplugged last night

1:23 pm

so have to use my old one

are you an ai? is that why you're so good at this?

1:24 pm

no, purely organic

1:24 pm

well except whatever non-organic compounds I may have picked up along the way

1:24 pm

Re: Myanmar, they are Myanmartians

1:24 pm

oh, but of course...thanks Same

finally found another 4!

1:26 pm

It appears they're still kinda called Burmese

lol

found another 4! 6 left, 37 total

1:28 pm

still have 9 fours...33 total

did hurshy finish and leave us without any fanfare?

1:32 pm

Perhaps her fare was fanned in another direction

I'm giving up and hitting the list. still 37 left.

1:37 pm

it's a tough one

1:38 pm

didn't Van Gogh suffer from earloss?

1:38 pm

AT 9? Clues, please.

tried earloss earlier JIC

1:39 pm

and Chekov suffered from ea 8.... ;o)....not Anton.....the Star Trek guy.....

1:39 pm

earbow also somehow not acceptable

1:39 pm

oh, well thanks pen

1:40 pm

Wrath of Khan....

1:40 pm

now I'm not going to be able to stop thinking about that all day

RIP Anton, also in the grid

the youngest just returned from a haircut - first one since like Jan. or Feb. he used a coupon and it was free, but when I asked if he tipped, he was like, uh-oh. so, he thought about it a while and decided to drive back over to leave a tip.

1:42 pm

how sweet is that!...

oh, are we talking about the thing that goes into Ricardo Montalban's ear? shivers.

is it his ear or someone else's? haven't seen in years and years, and that's all I remember

1:43 pm

i just remember it going into Chekov's ear....

and when you said anton, I was thinking yelchin, who was in the new star treks

1:45 pm

Also in trollhunter

did anyone clue for gramma?

1:45 pm

well i did not want anyone to think that a creature went into Anton Chekov's ear... ;o)

1:45 pm

Not yet

1:45 pm

Though perhaps that was why the RIP, Chekov has been dead for some much longer time

gramma, if you have the other 9, it's most of the same letters

so, I guess it works for both antons. RIP to all antons in all star treks

1:46 pm

oh, duh

1:48 pm

And the writer too of course

I said I was listing, then my dog put his head on my lap and the keyboard so I haven't been able to copy/paste yet.

1:48 pm

ricardo montalban (khan) PUT the things into Pavel Chekov and his then captain. he wouldn't put one in his OWN ear!

1:48 pm

hokie, ty that worked.

1:49 pm

exactly, hursh.....

yeah, I was thinking chekov is a writer, now you all have my br all messed up

all I remember of the movie is 1) ricardo and 2) ear thing

1:50 pm

well at least you'll be able to chekov the list now

1:51 pm

montalban is dead. nimoy, kelley, and doohan. plus the guy who played that captain who got the ear thing, and Carol Marcus. waaaahhh

1:52 pm

nichelle nichols i think has a terminal illness, too...

I always think of quien es mas macho with montalban

1:53 pm

shatner is freakin EIGHTY NINE

holy cow

1:54 pm

i thought koenig was the youngest, but takei has him by about 6 months

did you ever see that show with him and The Fonz and a couple of other old guys? can't rem. who or what the show was called, but I will look it up. he looked really old in that (shatner)

1:55 pm

no, i did not

oddly I can't find it on either's imdb. hold please.

I swear I didn't make this show up. how can it not be on either's page? it was like 4 older actors traveling the world together (as themselves).

2:05 pm

i remember it.....didn't 4 or 5 older actors travel around together?

2:06 pm

maybe it was just like a youtube video or something that wouldn't go on IMDB?

Better Late Than Never! finally just googled those 2 together. George Foreman and Terry Bradshaw were the other 2.

2:08 pm

Yes, that was it....

2:09 pm

8.5 stars on IMDB...

looks like NBC maybe. maybe since they played "self" it is listed in another section of the imdb

I watched some of it, it was entertaining

2:10 pm

there are choices....."self" is one.....

yeah, I remember that now from mobile imdb, but I guess I didn't think of it on this computer

2:13 pm

well i am taking a break.....bbl to finish.....bye all....

I still haven't made it to the list. LOL

2:18 pm

me either, on with customer now....21 to go

omg, the volcano was one of my missing 4's

and I had the poker bet

2:28 pm

fireworks!!

nice!

I had to skip 2 a5's on the list! have I ever mentioned I hate the a's?

wow, I used po7 earlier in the chat and still didn't think it was in the grid. no one sent me to the PB either

2:35 pm

It would be bad form to send someone to the PB for a word they used describing funeral services

well, I was more describing my jackass cousin

so I wouldn't have thought it bad form

2:38 pm

People can choose to believe that masks are effective or not, but if they are asked to wear a mask, they should do so.

exactly

2:39 pm

All of the mail carriers I see around here are wearing masks

also, he's been sitting on a grand jury once a month and did that the day before the burial. pretty sure he will end up spreading it to my aunt and uncle.

now down to those 2 a5's. surely I can work this out...

shew, finished! now to the grocery store for a cookie cake. the youngest turns 18 tomorrow!
