I'd read that paper
Struggling to find the end of the 10

but I have a 2 hour zoom meeting coming up - I'm sure I can make progress :)
anybody remember actor Karl (with the lumpy nose)?
you've stumped me amelu
Malden
oh yes
No meeting should ever last more than an hour. It the subject at hand cannot be dealt with in an hour, people are talking too much.
Mladen George Sekulovich was his real name!
morning, all (i see radar o'riley's favourite grape drink)
Wow, that name is a mouthful
he was married to the same woman for 70 years

hi Doren
I'm really sad I can't come to NYC this year
hi
me too. But then again, broadway is closed and who knows what will happen with restaurants at this point.
i bet museums are closed too no?
i'm trying to go with the attitude that i'm grateful for what I have done and seen, rather than bemoan the fact that I can't do any more of it at this point.
edamame not in the dictionary
they are opening now. reduced hours, etc
nope, carla. as so many real words aren't
ooh, finished the 3rd row d
i"m very grateful for what I've seen and I have loved all of it. If i never see another at least I've seen some great ones
that's the spirit, ru Book of Mormon and Wicked are high up on the list
never seen a broadway show. well, I only went to NYC once for an overnight work trip, so I really haven't seen anything there.
aint too proud is way up there too
I think that night with you and Bubbles at Wicked was the best night ever
expensive as hell but worth every penny
I loved it, but not on the top list. I've seen too many really great ones.. jukebox shows can be lots of fun, but not broadway at its finest (IMHO)
yup, that was terrific. Eternally grateful for that one
and i still think Estela is my favorite restaurant, tho NoMad was right up there as well. Been back to both of them
these m's are impossible
Estela is my fave..even over Per Se
I need 1 from the first M and 2 from the bottom row.
I haven't seen a Broadway show, but really look forward to it.
i passed it on the way to Bklyn on Monday and thought, why aren't I getting take out from there??
Hope you get your chance, ori
20 left.
hello...
howdy TO
hi owl
hello carla hello dorens
i was out at a real concert last night. i had such fun!
didn't even know they existed anymore
that sounds nice
ah. i ishouldn't say that. friends of mine had a backyard concert few weeks ago. so nice to see/hear live music again
that's nice. whom did they have?
friends in their 50's have a little band. eagles, simon and garfunkle, CSNY stuff. they're pretty good, but certainly not pros
that sounds nice. my friends all seem to have migrated to FL gold coast. no birus and living it up with music.
i saw Low Cut Connie. pure fun. you buy a table and can bring 4 people. or a lawn aquare for four.
you thinking of joining them?
yes
i mean, the tie to go it before you are in some nursing home. they are having a ball.
radical change. but if all your friends are there, why not?
whoops. didn't realize the time. Gotta go- PT time (shoulder again)
have relatives on east coast but at their agaes, not a good bet
sorry to hear your shoulder is acting up. bye
gtg i no longer hear the clothes dryer. happy babbling
well, stuck at 19 left. 2 4's, 4 5's, 10 6's(!), and all the bigger ones left. guess I will peruse the chat after I walk the dog. TTFN!

My monkeys Hurshy, they love me :)
might i have a clue, o thou monkey-adored?
oooh wait
got the 9... now not sure how to make it 10
I agree with Hursh. The 9 and 10 are not easy to find if you are not familiar with them.
past tense hurshy
hmm, well then i guess it must not mean what i thought it might mean
well i am heading out....bbl to find my last 35.....bye all....
start at a different place in the grid, hursh.....
I looked up what it means....
ok, it DOES mean what i thought it meant, but it just also has other meanings (related) for different parts of speech
they both start from that first top D, pen
phantom: diadem
Is that like "that word doesn't mean what you think it means"
sorry, you are right.....too much babble.....bye all.....
now i just have to find the other four Ds that i don't have
are there any DO?
yes, do5 and do6

*dagger to the heart* edamame doesn't count!
I love those beans hursh
Ls Licked!
neither does edam (one of my favourite cheeses)
well that one i would expect to be proper
yeah, it is proper, pity though
i have this seat that if you get under it, there is a hollow space, there isn't a solid bottom piece at the same level where the outside ends, if you see what i mean. and my cats look so funny when they smush themselves under the edge to go in there, and smush themselves back out again
awwww, bless
they are perennially entertaining creatures
As Axed!
I miss my cat. She was 16 when she passed away, on my daughters 5th birthday
*crying face*
good morning everyone :)

well me can only come from the bottom, yeah
phantom: madmen
yep

nope
latin pl
hmmm ok
thanks got it
i am also missing one from third row
cheers!
what do you think the odds are of us missing the same one? probably low, since we usually have different ones
(To the tune of the Itchy & Scratchy theme song) It's the Hokie & Hurshy Show!!!
hehe
ooh, finished the L - an easy 4 that was hiding
Hs Hacked!
well, I know what some of the 6's are from the flip and still can't find them

you have the long Ds i assume
yes
(will that bring ru out of the woodwork?)
did you get the 2 do

but we have it in babble sometimes
what is the point total?
24
well, I keep trying acedal like it's going to magically take
sore + abbr for the Patriots football team
got it!
I know there is an sc6 that I can't find
wow, the news says more than 10% of people in Oregon have evacuated their homes due to the fires. that is a freaking large percentage for such a thing.
wow
sc6 is a term we use in psychology to describe a sort of mental network in which you understand and remember things
got it, thx
now 1 S

so i have sa6, sc6, st6
I also know of ei6 that I can't find
oh that'll be my e then

what is the point totals?
they are definitely regular words, hahahahaha
that is a pun

*whistles an airy tune to pass the time*
hey all, good morning (afternoon or evening)
another late start for me
hiya mool
moo! let us know when you finish the S's. hurshy & I only have S6 left.
hey hursh, happy friday
lol watch mool finish the grid before we find our last S
truth
ah yeah, probably not
I need to eat lunch!
there's a certain slant of stuckness summer afternoons that oppresses
Two sa6
thank you! looking...
of course I feel I've already tried a lot
ditto
hi again -- just back from long chat with our son who had some free time to talk with mom -- lovely
got it
If it is the one I think it is, it's pretty twisty
rhymes with a dude from the book of genesis that starts with an L
hmm, just read Genisis when the pandemic started and don't remember.
TBF, it's not great reading
he was noah's dad
fireworks! thanks to all the little people that helped me. :D
How do you retain stuff like that?
congrats hoke...42 left here
me? in that case, growing up in church
hurshy must have a mind like an elephant.
i love elephants
12 years of Catholic schooling and I never heard of Noah's father
I also grew up in church and like I said, JUST READ GENESIS a few months ago, and I still don't remember that.
thanks, moo
well i had to look up who he was, i only remembered his name
Carla, it's probably a one off. Like those passages that say So and so begat so and so, and so and so begat so and so and La6 begat Noah
but apparently his speech to his wives is the only extant example of poetry from before the flood
yep, and like I said, not good reading. I was doing the bible app, read the bible in a year, and I think I made it through half of Exodus.
too bad our oldest poem is all about revenge... sigh
too bad our oldest poem is all about revenge... sigh
i hate when i accidentally double-hit the enter button
ironically Hokie, I'm reading thru Genesis now
Has Peter Gabriel left yet dolly?
I'm at the point where Joseph is about to meet back up w/his brothers during the famine
we had a musical about that - not the famous one, a more churchy one
down, down, down to canaan down, down, down...
no, down to egypt. BACK to canaan.
it has been quite the memory refresher reading thru it again
LOL, moo
I do remember that part, dolly
I may be a little biblical challenged :)
that was a little more interesting
lol
well, down to 19...this should be fun
olden
already had that one thanks
oops hate it when I do that
I'm sorry
LOL Mool
<---Has not been reading the Bible during the COVID stuff
achient...the pain you feel as you get really old
lol
cast
had that one too thanks
drats!
10 left
you're almost there mool!
well, fours done....still 9 left
crazy futuristic computers....madmacs
I like your definitions :)
tx, it's nice to be appreciated
balderdash is one of my favorite games
don't know that I've ever played that one
basically they give you an obscure word, and you have to come up with a definition
that could very interesting!
then if other people pick your definition you get points, dealer gets points if no one gets the right one
that's be a blast!
there's a second version that expands categories into dates and other sorts of things like that
the only drawback is that the official clues have a certain cadence to how they word the definitions, but once you figure that out, you can structure your definitions better
fun game tho
you should be really good at clueing here ;)
Well I tend to try and clue with more lateral or obscure clues...plenty of others to give more literal clues
doesn't always work of course
:)
But can be fun in it's own way
surprised edamame doesn't work
it's one of my ghosts, thinking it should be there
nite
a very rainy week here
snowed here tuesday
back to 80 tomorrow
really? did you get much?
about an inch
second earliest on record it's snowed here
wowsy!
we could use some rain here
seems early
yeah, so since I moved to Colorado it's snowed at least once in every month except for June, July and August
my hubby is from Colorado
It has snowed in Denver June 2nd, back in 1951 apparently...so it seems September 3rd to June 2nd is the earliest to latest
Snowed May 21st last year
Wow, how is it that we are in flood state and just a few states over, they could use some rain. Ma Nature is out of whack.
when we went to Colorado last summer, close to July 4th, there was enough snow on the road going up Estes, that they had bladed, and our granddaughter carved her name in the snow mounds
Ah, Estes is just 45 mins from me
great beauty there!
yeah, like it up there
The drive from Estes Park to Loveland is interesting, really close to the river there
Hubby lived in Loveland as a kid
it's about 30 mins from me
he lived in Loveland, Colo Spgs, Walden, and Westminster
My wife went to college in the Springs
:)
lived in Florrissant Colorado for two summers (just west of Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak
been here 4 years now, great place to live
so much to see
yeah, never get sick of mountains
fireworks!
still 8 to go
you're almost there!
7 :)

That's some whacky weather, mool! It's easy to predict here: Forecast from May through mid-October is hot and dry. Little variation.
my dad lived in arizona for a couple of years, and he jokes that the people who do the worst at meteorology school get sent there, because you can't really get that forecast wrong
Yeah, too hot for me in Arizona...well at least in Phoenix, some other parts not so bad :)
Thankfully, we're usually not as hot as Arizona.
Lajit. Isn't that something that is real and not fake? LOL
legit
Lajit is that new rapper from Isle of Wight
hello all....
Hi pen
hello again, ori...
Been working most of the day and haven't made a lot of progress here.
Someone in one of the houses behind me is using a leaf blower and adding tons of dust to the air. Just what we need on top of the smoke.
that's awful....
i am done....
Congratulations pen
ty....
not a bad grid, though I did have to list...
MOLLY are you around? What size does an image need to be in order to not blow up when used for your icon?
350 x 350 pixels
Thank you. I'm always posting too large an image.
Thank you for understanding the pixels thing. Most don't and they continue to have HUGE icons.
I wrote it down this time :D
is the da 9 a common word?
Not especially. It's used in reference to fancy knives.
thanks Gillie, I'll ponder on that :-)
great clue
I only found that word because I read a book recently where it was used and I had to look it up :D
goodnight all....
I guess properly it refers to an inlay technique used in a lot of fancy metalwork, but it's also used to refer to an effect that you see on knife blades.
how do you make it into the ten? I'm lost....
past tense it....
really going now, lol....
fish me....
i thought it started from the other d....im too tired to babble
hi trif
hi! how are you, dear friend?
i am well- and you?
new job overwhelm, but adjusting
ooh, new job! what are you doing?
teaching eighth grade english at a new (to me) school
are you live or virtual? or hybrid?
yes, yes, and yes!!! I for sure am missing a cog in my brain to switch schools in the middle of this, but it was too good a chance to pass up! full remote for two weeks, then hybrid, then who the hell knows?
wow that makes it very hard
sorry, i wandered off. i had tv on and they showed my nj hometown, a house near where my brother lives.
i am apt to wander off these days when i need a break from the grid.
wow! hope everything is ok
you mean th tv? all good, it was an episode of "my lottery dream home". They did not choose it.
oh that is good then, i guess
i lol'd when i saw the bus with destination my home town!
time to go, i am binge watching "the Shield" tonight. well, two episodes at most. just beginning season 4
how is life in philly? lots of strife with wishy washy government.
secondo LOVES philly. she is very, very happy there. Bummer - every year my new school does a trip to Philly - but not this year
the mayour is an idiot. you will be hearing a lot of it on the news soon, i fear.
that is unfortunate. secondo has made it crystal clear that if trump gets in again, she is chucking it all and moving to reland.
they should have nipped the situation in the bud but let it slide.
i have 17 words left. haven't been this close to finishing in ages, but not sure i have the brain to muscle on
well- how can you let a shanty town grow month after month on the street of all tourist attractions so it's become an armed camp?
true
nothing to do with president. weak city government. wanting to be everyone's friend scared beacuse the news picked up the ctory of rioters being tear gassed. now they have put the police in th eposition to clean out a fortified camp.
perhaps he should have addressed the need for a shanty town?
i know people living in other areas near center city. they are fine.
seconda lives in center city, i think - about a block behind independence hall?
perhaps. they claim they have, but there's awlays gentirfication; drug abuse; mental illness. i have been here for so long and i hear the same tired rhetoric over and over
yes, old city or washington square. or head house sqaure
lovely. i have friends who live in a high rise on the river. they are living the life!
hmmm washington square sounds more correct.
that area is ok.
of course she wanted rittenhouse square - fat chance!
lol i hear that!
the whole thing is a ridiculous win - for less than she was paying for a tiny closet of a room with three other women, she is living in a HUGE one bedroom in a truly lovely building
i am too old to move though i would like kensington. lots of music
that's so nice! don't you love that area?
i love philly. fantastic city
sorry, i mean fishtown. kensington. god forbid.
it is. but it is changing. rapidly. there was a huge boom in luxury accomodations. then they could not fill them.
it's great for college
i am trying to remember what they call the 'gay area" - something cheeky
and people don't realize how large it is geopgraphically
gayborhood
the food market alone is worth a visit!!! oh, yes, that is it, gayborhood. lol
great neighborhood
do you mean reading terminal?
i think so, yes. so many names to remember!
did you eat at di nic's? roast pork italian style.
maybe? we did buy some amazing ribs
ne
that is my favorite at that market
i love getting prodice and meat there. and i love metropolitan bakery. and of course, termini's
it will be a long time beofre i am back. the radio station has all live events on hold.
we ate so much there we had to roll outselves back to her place
oh yes, how did your music festival go?
hahahah did you save room for Bassett's?
i so want to go to the victor nafe. right now, they are singing opera from the balcomy every sunday. which beings up the famous italian market. have you been?
omg that sounds AMAZING!!! I don't think I have, but I sure will!
it went well.was working up there last night and got the skinny. with the terrible floods that would have put the two most profitable areas out for half the week, i'd say we dodsged a bullet.
i would agree!
i saw low cut connie. adam is the best! the show is taped, they've put up 56 shows since the pandemic
i was there for the last flood. people are stupid, everyone trying to get them to leave and they just stand around looking stupid till you screamed at them;
lately i have been more than a little disappointed at our species
i once saw people climb onto a satge on an open field during a violent thunderstorm there to get out of the rain. darwin award candidates.
zap!
meanwhile, we rolled the piano to the middle and got out of there. left them to their own fate
goodness!
anyway, nice to see you. nice to hear all the good news. and i got to see a great band, free, outdoors. life is good, considering.
it is indeed. I am really glad it all went well. I meant to ask before, but have hardly been babbling this week
did you see the adorable video of the baby goat reuniting with its mother? the second best thing on the net. after cats, of course!
no!!! I saw one of a baby goat climbing out from under a stove though...I told my students today at open house they were going to hear more about goats this year than they ever thought possible
i worked the makeshift tv studio with some good bands. indoor restrooms. even if we DID have to sanitize them after each act.
i just love them. i hope the old age home has some therapy goats. ;)
me too! if not, I will insist they bring some in
funniest thing - I want to visit my mum at the memory care facility once, and, when I asked her how things were, she threw her arms in the air, rolled her eyes, and said "we don't have ANY WEED!" something she NEVER would have said pre=alzheimers!!!
omg
