I'm sure hoping colleges are back to normal by September. I feel terrible for all the kids whose social/emotional well being has been affected by quarantine, etc.
I do too. This crap has really robbed the kids.
I watched a forum yesterday with the chancellor (no idea what that is) and the dean of student affairs or something, and they are definitely planning on going back to normal.
my oldest son is in his 2nd year of college. he only got 1/2 year in the dorm and hates the online classes. plus, he'd always wanted to study abroad and was planning to last fall, so that's never going to happen.
Some universities are requiring vaccinations. I think that makes sense, but I'm so concerned about the anti-vax folks. Just saw this morning that 50% of Republican men don't think they want to be vaccinated. I just don't understand that
they said they are not requiring it but are strongly encouraging it

mr. homie was saying he was getting J&J and then when I started seeing it here and he is now eligible, he was hemming and hawing. but then he decided he didn't want to be lumped in with those refusing to get it so now he has an appt. Fri.

I was told that it helps to avoid the side effects. I did and most of my friends sand relatives did too and we've all been fine. Of course that doesn't mean it's impossible, anecdotal, etc. But I know doctors who've agreed that it's a good idea, Bichon

well, Pfizer sometimes does have side effects. But older people seem to have less, since they have less robust immune systems.

brain fog is pretty common with celiac disease as well, so I probably wouldn't notice :D

yeah, I usually can't go to sleep before 11:30 or midnight, but now that the time changed it's much later
I could get a lot more sleep if not for the 40 hour work week and the lack of a husband/partner to share all the work with.
I get four hours sleep before midnight, usually.
And beginning around 60 or so, I began waking up in the middle of the night, even if I got to sleep at a decent hour
I was listening to this No Sleep Podcast, which I hadn't noticed is actually horror stories acted out. I woke up at 3am and one was playing and I listened a while and was like, crap, no way I'm going back to sleep now. And I like scary movies and stuff, this was crazy.
I find podcasts help me get back to sleep. They have to be interesting enought to keep my attention, but not so interesting as to keep me awake.
But that one sounds terrible!
I guess that's why it's called "No Sleep". LOL. I do have some other good ones, and Audible has free ones that are designed to put you to sleep.

I live too close to an outlet mall and every time I went by the coach outlet they had a sale going so I have quite a stash as well.
She had a 50% discount and still has friends there, so she does quite well. She worked at Michael Kors for a couple of years and when they had special sample sales the prices were insane. But I never liked their bags as much as the classic old Coach bags.

well, I've heard the same thing for when you're sick. that it is better to let your body fight off a fever unless it is too high and you feel too bad.
My sore arm bothered me with my first shot but I toughed it out without tylenol. Second shot I iced it like crazy (plus lots of hydration) and it wasn't early as bad.. And less robust immune response, owl, but still enough

well, mkg, I saw something about the effective rates are misleading. that's just from the trials, plus they are effective at not dying and keeping people out of hospitals.
I am sure we will get a booster within a year, with efficacy against the emerging strains.

I just read a long article the other day about a man in TX still living in an iron lung. I did not really know anything about polio. kinda crazy the parallels to covid. also interesting how it became such a problem due to better sanitation.

in those days we were given $ , hopped on the bus and just went.
The newer pertussis vaccine, used since 1997, has fewer side effects but is much less effective.

but pools were often associated with outbreaks because they occurred in summer.
there was a hospital outbreak of pertussis here in '99 because I know some people who had a baby there who caught it.
Pertussis is very contagious. The difficulty is the delay in diagnosis because we don't suspect pertussis until that bad cough kicks in 2 weeks after a runny nose.
carla, we of a certain age grew up with lots of diseases you don't hear bout that did much damage. i laugh comparing "quarantine" with those for scarlet fever. they put a sticker on your door and MADE you stay home.

scarlet fever damaged the heart.
my oldest brother has a smallpox vaccine scar but the middle one and I did not get that vaccine

my niece and nephew saw my scar and asked what in the world it was.
Scarlet fever is a Streptococcus infection and that can lead to rheumatic fever. I saw one case of that in the mid-90's and expect to never see another in my career. It is rare in the US now.

Great weather this week. Then I am game doc at a football game this evening. There is a short season to make up for the cancelled fall season last year.

yep, short seasons here too. so weird for "football weather". I was so glad my son got to play his senior soccer season, and now I am so glad to be done with kid sports.
For the players. Football players have a 100% chance of injury, usually minor, sometimes bad.

In my last school the risk of injury was sometimes great from overzealous parent threatening the coach to let their kids play.

similar injuries in soccer. my kids' school has a great trainer that's from our big healthcare injuries. I always call her the hardest working trainer around. sometimes she is the only one for both schools so she's running around everywhere or driving the gator.

my oldest son blew out his ACL in his junior year of soccer. never really was the same after.
I have an athletic trainer with me and he has taught me a lot of sports medicine.

My favorite dog in my life passed in February. I'm still sad. I still have one dog (a very old huge dog, who does nothing but sleep) and a cat (a snooty cat) :D
